Not that I expect the digital ones to be good, but come on nigger.

Of course it is.
They even dropped Apex out of nowhere to try and offset the losses.

What happened? I thought normalfags that buy AAA trash was the only market that mattered for these games? Shouldn't sales expectations been adjusted based on how many of those people there are?

>its performing below Destiny and Divison numbers
>Destiny broke sales records
>Dvision broke Destiny's sales records
yeah no shit Anthem is nowhere near those numbers

>Hopefully the game has a very high digital share
Why would anyone care about a game this soulless?

>hopefully the game has a very high digital share
why would you hope for this?

Anthem sold just less than half of what Andromeda sold, which sold around half of what ME3 sold.

Except they're expecting 6 million copies sold by the end of March, so they're fucked.

>I don't like it but can't explain why so I'll just call it soulless.

Attached: 1420911043435.jpg (498x482, 69K)

thats why i am talking about
Destiny and Division sold that much day 1

>6 million
What did they mean by this?

>Put your game up on a digital subscription service
>HOW COME OUR SALES FIGURES ARE LOWER THAN NORMAL???
t. crackdown 3 and anthem

MAYBE I'M FOOLISH

A lot of people who report on video games only do to get in contact with publisher's marketing departments so they can eventually get a job there.

In the current year, AAA games need to sell like 8 million to break even. BFV sold like 7.3 million and was considered a conmercial failure.

M$ will probably swoop in and snap them up for cheap at this stage. Remember that they were in talks to buy Bioware last year (which was incorrectly reported by the gaming media as an attempt to buy EA as a whole) which fell apart because they weren't willing to meet EA's valuation of them.

Don't see why they would unless IPs came with the deal which they most likely won't with EA involved.

AAA game publishers need to stop wasting millions of dollars on marketing and just release games apex style

Hopefully this will be a lesson.
Also if you drop games like they dropped Apex people dont have months or even years to pick apart gameplay trailers and hype themselves up to an extremely unrealistic expectation

breakn even =/= desired sales by publisher
the average AAA game needs to sell like 4 million to break even but that depends on a lot of things and obviously im not talking about RDR2 but something like Anthem or BF

>hopefully the game has a very high digital share

Hopefully not.

>Wanting one of the worst companies to do well

this is a very valid fucking question user

>want to keep playing
>Stuck behind some bullshit ass "challenge" where I have to revive people
>even on hard no one every gets hurt enough to need a revive
who the fuck thought this was a good idea?

Why is Yea Forums so retarded.

There is a strong correlation between retail and digital sales. Poor sales in either is a strong indicator of poor sales in the other. In fact there have been no AAA games where poor sales in one was not replicated in the other.

game will probably sell poorly on pc because most people just bought origin access and played the game a week early instead of paying 60 dollars for no content

Anthem and Crackdown just being shit obviously didn't help but also the subscription services give people no reason to buy the game seperately.
Just wondering how the companies will spin the headlines into a positive.
>EA ACCESS SUBSCRIPTIONS RISE BY 5% THANKS TO ANTHEM'S LAUNCH TIMEFRAME?

Game is being trashed by the whole internet, of course its going to bomb (on top of being a mess)

>Hopefully the game has a very high digital share
Hopefully not so it prevents games like this from being made anymore. These overly ambitious projects that don't go anywhere and end up flopping because this is the video game industry and four years is not enough time to make a game like this, so you're basically selling it now and finishing it later via paid DLC. It's one thing to be ambitious, but then there's completely unrealistic expectations. Games like these always end up getting extremely rushed, and it happens to just about every video game dev. Happened with MGSV, happened with both FFXV and KH3. It's just completely ridiculous at this point.

Gonna be a based from me dawg

I'm sure the release of Apex Legends a week before this didn't hurt its numbers in any way.

>EA killed Titanfall 2 by shoving it out in between two popular AAA games

these games are like government IT projects

this is truly shameful

Yea Forums cried about the witcher not having LOD volumetric smoke, anthem had like 75% of the world and immersion completely removed

>respawn now EAs most beloved studio
best timeline

I'm gonna literally masturbate if Bioware is shut down.

the world and immersion are great though

Wat. Most people that I've played with were completely brain dead and died during every stronghold.

it just looks like Destiny to me. In the E3 video with people and objects moving around, it could have had something but making everything completely static just makes it a lazy clone.

>There is a strong correlation between retail and digital sales.

Depends on type of game

I'm gonna literally masturbate.

IT'S THE ANTHEM OF CREATION FREELANCER

destiny's environments just don't come anywhere near close, honestly.

the world is industry-leading in its beauty and detail

the game has some great aspects

Break Even != projected sales targets.

Also BF was a flop because it SOLD HALF the previous games launch (14million vs 7million). Which is DIRE for a long-running AAA series.

B-bait?

>expecting 6 million copies sold by the end of March
Telling you NOW. Once DA4 and ME4 fucking fail. They will be dead. We need two more to go people. Just 2 more and it is done. EA already have Apex so they aren't going to give a shit anytime soon.

Attached: I said SMILE DAMMIT..jpg (1200x584, 140K)

Do you have to be told what's what by reviews? Can't evaluate a game for yourself?

Good. Hope the game sales bomb digitally as well.

The BioWare people loved is dead and devs/publishers need to learn that releasing an unfinished game under the "we'll finish it later" mentality is not a good idea.

DA4 will sell if it has romances. Anthem didn't sell cause it didn't have romances.

For full-price, new AAA games, no, it doesn't

>DA4 will sell if it has romances.
Ah but it will be the wrong romances. Bioware ain't no ME 1&2 and DAO anymore. They are going to basically put MEA style romances in DA4. Swear to god.

Is this going to be the end of Bioware? Or do they have enough goodwill to keep surviving?

I played the "demo" faggot. It was the most generic garbage i installed in years.

>Andromeda unironically sold better and scored better than Anthem
What did BioWare fans mean by this?

Ryder has alot of charm for a retarded girl

How much story is in the base Destiny game? I have it for free from Blizzcon I think

Attached: 1550463900928.jpg (1075x742, 123K)

Probably 90% of anthems sales are digital

ME:A is the type of game that sells heavily in physical, unbalanced toward physical

buying anthem seems like a bad choice now though, it gon die

You will get your romances. Women will get 1 girl and 3 chads to choose from. Men will get 4 gay dudes and the only girl they get is going to be a tranny. But shes a real woman so you cant complain..

Brutal.

You must be too young to understand EA's long betrayal with Bioware as the fall guy.

The only good part of Andromeda was all the incest/autism porn people were making on Yea Forums when it first launched.

having spent hours upon hours of my life enjoying previous Bioware games and investing myself in their worlds, it genuinely hurts to see their name on garbage like DA:I, Andromeda and now Anthem

I thought ME2 and DA2 were already signs that old Bioware was dead, now their name is being driven through the mud to the point where it tarnishes their legacy

I'm really not sure what you're even trying to get at.

Going by the numbers we have for games like Witcher 3 and Mass Effect Andromeda, AAA games only require $30-40 million to make and another $40 million to market, on average. About half of physical game sales proceeds go to the publishers.
gamerant.com/video-game-prices-breakdown-514/
For digital the percentage is higher. Valve games on Steam or EA games on Origin for instance have the publishers keeping 100%, obviously. For non-Valve games, we know that they take 30% of the cut on Steam.

So, for something like MEA, which we know for a fact had total costs of $73 million including marketing, development, and research, it would need to sell about 2.5 million physical retail copies at an average of $60 per copy to break even, or about 1.2 million digital copies. Obviously, less if we include special editions which cost way more and frontload the profits, or more if the game sells the bulk of its copies a few months after release when the price has been drastically slashed. Witcher 3, for example, sold 6 million in its first six weeks, i.e. near full price, and 4 million in the next year (to May 2016), for a total of 10 million.

Witcher 3 actually provides a good case study.
gematsu.com/2015/08/witcher-3-sold-six-million-six-weeks
CD Projekt Red, which just made one game at a time, said that they had net profit of $63.3 million from a couple months after the release of the Witcher 3. Since its total budget (marketing and development) was $82 million, that suggests revenue to the publisher was ~$145 million for six million copies. Or about $25 per copy. For games that sold more special editions, for instance, the amount of money they keep per copy is higher.

I may be biased since I got the game for free with my 2080 ti, but I'm actually kind of enjoying it. Sure it's got issues, but it's not as bad as the bandwagon hate train is saying. Sure there was a graphical downgrade from E3, but it's still a seriously beautiful game

Moderately based

>I may be biased since I got the game for free with my 2080 ti, but I'm actually kind of enjoying it

dont qualify your statement of expressing your own opinion

something peculiar happened with anthem-- the entire review industry agreed to sacrifice the game, to "regain trust". this was very calculated and anthem was the perfect game for it, because there's no reason for anthem to even exist

I like the game and I'm having fun. Though it just kidn of struck me, why am I not playing something like a mass effect game? They cared so much about the story and dialogue, yet its a multiplayer loot game, it doesnt make any sense together

Sure I'll buy this game that's been marked down to 9.99 so I can bang some ugly aliens.

>dont qualify your statement of expressing your own opinion

I felt it was necessary to mention I got it for free, because my opinion might be different if I spent $60 on it

why do jews think it's a sustainable business model to piss all of their money away into the jaws of marketing instead of making a decent product? nobody could have realistically seen the results of alpha or beta testing and said "yeah this is ready to ship," especially compared to other titles that resemble finished games. It's baffling, completely idiotic

Not him, but EA murders studios.
Gives them resources at first, but then tries to push monetisation into the development cycle, which inevitably results in a sub-standard, watered down game that both sells and reviews poorly.

Bioware should have died at least 7 years ago

See to young to understand it.

>is this the end of Bioware?
Friend at Edmonton says word went around the office yesterday that layoffs are coming in the next couple of weeks.

They've already let go of crunch staff (either entirely if they were contract or to their home studio).

Anthem probably won't make it. Betting 3-4 million sales aka "huge disappointment."

And they restrict and cut shit on purpose. Without telling you ever about it.

Tell your Edmonton friends to add romances and I'll buy their shit game.

The only thing they can't murder are their sports games.

>Bioware's the gud guy
>they dindu nuffin
I'm sure all of the terrible stories and dialogue that they've been writing for their games since ME2 was also entirely EA's fault.

nice try but bioware edmonton has nothing to do with real bioware

bioware edmonton was already 100% laid off/integrated into alberta

Fucking EA. Whilst I'll admit, the only IP I have a stake in them murdering was Dead Space, the fact remains that they've killed far too many good IPs that people loved.

They base their profits based on first purchases, not long term. The most important thing to a publisher is pre orders, day 1 and week 1. Anything else is meaningless. If production and marketing costs is not balanced by the first week, game is a failure. They invest so much money they want to recoup it ASAP to fund their next game and line their pockets.

I'll bet it doesn't even get 3 million. And they abandon the game inside of 3 months.

Attached: 1550432758881.jpg (245x239, 41K)

Far too many idiots will still buy it

terrible stories and dialogue started in ME2
ME2 was the first game after the EA acquisition

whoa weird what a coincidence that Bioware suddenly started sucking all on their own right at that moment

Jesus fucking christ, not everything is so black and white in the world. Take your damn head out of your ass.
I don't even like EA and haven't bought one of their games in almost a decade, but Bioware's quality in general dipping is not necessarily related to them being bought by EA.

>but Bioware's quality in general dipping is not necessarily related to them being bought by EA.

What? of course it's related, it's the direct cause

this is a pattern that has been observed in 100% of the cases of EA buying a studio (many would argue against DICE because they enjoyed the games but the games were dumbed down from PC originals)

>Retail

Not even trying to defend Anthem, but who the fuck buys games from retail stores anymore? Especially PC games? Sales numbers don't mean shit unless they include digital.

Is this the new Blunderborn?

How long until the media starts blaming gamers for killing Bioware?

>I don't even like EA and haven't bought one of their games in almost a decade
Bet you played Apex. I bet you did you lying fuck. You bought that Origins account. We all know you did.

I'm sure it's EA just telling them to make worse games and not talent people in the company leaving/working on different projects or having a bunch of hacks lead projects and making bad decisions within the company.
I'm sure Bioware would have gone down a similar path regardless if they were bought by EA, it'd just be slower

I don't even know what the fuck an Apex is

>Going by the numbers we have for games like Witcher 3 and Mass Effect Andromeda
Terrible examples. Anyone will tell you that CDPR works financial voodoo to keep their development costs as low as they do (including paying entry level workers the absolute lowest rate in the industry -- possible only because it's still relatively cheap to live in Poland).

Andromeda "saved" a lot of money by inheriting the Frostbite 3 engine and, well, we all know how that turned out. Not only did they get saddled with a new engine, the technical dev staff they got was pulled from the team that was supposed to be doing all of the third person development work for ALL of Frostbite, resulting in the subsequent cancellations of several games because they had to spend development time creating their own third person interfaces for the engine.

In short, one example of a company that has absolute command of its production from top to bottom in a locale where they can get away with paying less for development versus a studio that was underfunded from the go and literally destroyed post-failure.

Normies are being fucked in the ass even by knuckle dragging faggot standards and us old guard are laughing at them as they get booty blasted. The games don't even hide if they're going to fuck us in the ass and we refuse to tell normies what games are good, simply letting them sink or swim.

This game market crash is a slow motion one that we are in the middle of right now, but wasn't caused because all games were consolidated under one company. It was caused because every bit of good will was eaten and the foundation of video games just shakes off every obvious game and refusing to buy at release thus making the hollow structures fall instantly.

Attached: 123456.jpg (516x478, 65K)

does your friend also work at nintendo?

It turns out even normies have SOME standards

This only works if you have solid gameplay.

Given that the media is shitting on Anthem, never
I almost feel like BioWare is going to be the sacrificial lamb so EA can say “whew, got rid of them, no more shitty cash grab games guys, we did it gamers!

It's Origin's top selling game right now. Sorry morons, but this isn't going to be another TORtanic. Bioware is back on top and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.

Great aspects doesn’t mean a great or even good game. Rely on your own sense.

It’s not betrayal. It’s their business model.

>is the the end of BioWare
We can only hope so. Fucking LGBTI shitters retroactively made me loathe a company I used to love.

obviously, 1>0

They are not responsible for that kind of shit.

Uh. Edmonton is Alberta. It's the capital of Alberta. Are you okay, user? Or just a retarded American?

I think 3 million is a reasonable low end bet; that's a million sales on each of three platforms. That's modest stakes.

No. My friend worked on Andromeda, then "Dylan" a/k/a Anthem. Before Andromeda they worked for EA in Vancouver on crunch stuff. Mostly sports. Before that they were at Threewave. They said they're interviewing with Relic in three weeks.

My only friend at Nintendo was Reggie. :(

Normies are blowing their vidya allowance on a single game (microtransactions) instead of buying multiple games a year

I think anyone interested in this game just put down 15 bucks for EA's godawful subscription service to get in early, ironically it probably convinced a lot of people to not actually buy it after they got bored on day one.

Attached: Shrek.jpg (1000x510, 46K)

Um, Bioware had nothing to do with Apex.

>know how bad it is
>still want to play it
How can I fix my retardation
/video game addiction

>AAA games require 40M to be made

Why the fuck? Where does they money go? Don't tell me is the graphics.

So what went wrong?
Being a shitty hasn't stopped Bioware games from selling. Why this one?

maybe EA did it on purpose so they can have a reason to shutdown bioware without being labeled sexist, etc, etc.

DA4 isn't happening. Bioware is dead after this

warframe exists

I'm gonna say it. It's the legs, the leg design in this game is fucking stupid. Frog looking werewolf armor is gay as fuck.

Attached: anthem.jpg (600x900, 53K)

Suicide

Same here. I played the beta and hoped they would have more content than they did then. Turns out they don't have much. But the flying and world seemed neat enough. I actually hope they fix the problems with loot and customization being garbage.

That's not addiciton, that's just literally shit taste in games

Only assuming, but, people have already played and gotten tired of or already playing other pseudo-MMO lootshooters, like Destiny and Warframe, and Anthem also doesn't really touch upon Bioware's core audience that they've built up and destroyed over the years

Warframe controls like watery shit though, Anthem had weight and momentum at least.

A level of based not mentioned yet

Nope DA4 will be a shitty comeback to show that Bioware isn't dead. Then after that fails Bioware will say about ME4. AND when that falls through. Then they are done. It will either be ME4 as the final card to play or MEA2. Either way DA4 and ME4 will be the final devlopments, productions and breath from Bioware.

EA's masterplan to sell subscription to their prime service has, arguably, crippled their last four major releases. Battlefront 2, Andromeda, Battlefield V, and now Anthem got raked over the coals thanks to their tiered release system, shitty marketing, and obviously rushed development.

When can I expect a mass burning/shredding/recycling of unsold copies?

Anthem launched?

>other pseudo-MMO lootshooters
I think people are fed up with MMO's on Consoles full stop.

Then play warframe with the sensitivity at zero and take 30 seconds to look at a jpeg every time you open a menu to simulate the load times.

He was obviously referring to EA, dummy.

Nah, I just think Anthem's too late to the punch, and people are either already settled into their own thing or tired of the idea already

How’s The Division 1 after patches? Also any dlc adds story content? I liked it at launch, but I didn’t get any dlcs and I heard it had some meaningful patches.

I wanna go back to comfy snow NY.

based but still needs work

>rushed development
They had six years.
SIX.FUCKING.YEARS.

They’ll talk about player engagement:

“OVER 1 BILLION HOURS PLAYED IN ANTHEM / CRACKDOWN, THANK YOU!!,”

Because when we’re dealing with such high numbers we don’t have a frame of reference to say if it’s worse or better than usual.

>development time for a game means the exact final product is being linearly developed for the entirety of that time

they had something significantly worse than this, it was thrown in the trash

>late
That would imply there was an MMO-lite that was successful. The truth is that you can't get the MMO experience on consoles. Really, you can't get any kind of true experience on consoles. I still remember when CoD1 multiplayer matches was 24 vs 24, then in CoD4 you were limited to some 8v8 bullshit. Consoles were a mistake, end of story.

>like FFXV and KH3

Attached: 722974F1-FCBD-410A-BF28-04B0E3A7D554.jpg (1880x832, 1.35M)

It was developed for that entirety of time. It wasn't split between production and dev time like KH3. Anthem actually had more dev time than KH3.

Warframe's been going for like 5 years at this point.

No, it wasn't. They had something worse and they threw it out and restarted it. You don't have any idea how games are developed or, in fact, how work in teams is done.

>free to play

Attached: 1532294934812.gif (487x560, 898K)

Normies wouldn't listen anyways user, they'll just try and justify their purchase and hide their buyer's remorse but they can only get fucked in the ass for so long before they actually see that we were right the whole time. They won't completely accept the truth but they will accept that releasing an unfinished product hoping its potential will keep it afloat is actually a really fucking scummy business practice.

What does this mean for Dragon Age 4?

>Anthem and Crackdown just being shit obviously didn't help but also the subscription services give people no reason to buy the game seperately.
This is what's bullshit about EA and Microsoft. They'll just sweep any criticism or quality concern under the rug along with sales data by saying player engagement was through the roof. After Crackdown 3 and Sea of Thieves I don't expect Microsoft to even try to make a decent game when they can just toss it onto Game Pass and tell people they'll play it anyway because it's there.

But that's not what this discussion was about. If you want to pick up your goalposts and leave, I won't stop you, though

I'm a physicalfag but I'll never understand why anyone would buy a physical copy of an always online game? I mean that disc is absolutely worthless once the servers go down someday. It also seems like these types of games lose value quickly, so unless you plan on selling it back during the first month, you probably won't get jack shit for it. Just seems like a waste of space to me. Not that it matters in this case, since I doubt this game is doing well digitally either (at least I hope it's not).

source?

They're still largely unfinished and so very obviously rushed. Don't be a salesfag.

Digital is future, luddite

Is that Destiny or Anthem? Because they're both so generically sci-fi that it's difficult to discern one from the other.

Isn’t he talking about D1?

yes, a person who lived closer to the industrial revolution than the inception of mass media or the internet surely knew how things would turn out when he made one of the most mindlessly regurgitated statements.

It’s a shit game. Not enough content, not high enough quality, too many bugs and issues that hinder a smooth experience, haphazard core game design, etc.
I’m in the boat where I briefly loved destiny until I realize how shit it was. The forums were filled with people with a similar experience the few months after launch and I’m sure I’m not the only one still on the market for a better version of it. Anthem just isn’t that, it’s the same shit.

i thought his name was Garry

No because he comes out of literally nowhere, says the main tagline of the game, then is obliterated

No, Anthem has this COMPLETELY different villain called Monitor

>guy runs out of the shadows

>blue woman jumps on top of him and eats his face

true, but when it underperforms in retail, it underperforms on digital stores as well, lack of interest does not somehow relegate itself to only certain forms of distribution.

I'm going to guess it's either habit, the desire to resell or just a price comparison thing. The Playstation store in the UK is awful for pricing so it tends to be 20% cheaper (or more) to buy a physical copy

>when the most noteworthy trait of a character is that his armor looks different from the mooks.

>The Playstation store in the UK is awful for pricing so it tends to be 20% cheaper (or more) to buy a physical copy

hahah what th efuck how is just everything wrong with the uk...how do you guys manage to fucking do everything ass backwards

It's actually selling even more than Destiny 2, retard.

To be fair, unless there is a PSN sale, the US PS store can also have some awful pricing on digital. I mean there are games on there that you can get for around $20 at FUCKING GAMESTOP that are still $60. It's straight up Jewry.

didn't Destiny 2 sell significantly less than Destiny 1

also LMFAO i don't play console trash and all this bro shit so can someone explain to me how destiny 2 exists????? didnt destiny come out like 2 years ago? wtf

And like Andromeda's five year development, I suspect they built everything in the last 17 months.

Pretty fuckin based

Nice moving the goalposts. Again. Fucking retard.

Destiny still plays well at the very least. It has decent gunplay, it's just that everything else is unsatisfying.

warframe clone like destiny,and divisions.

>Devotion devs just released a game with a curse to all mainland chinese

EA killed this game out of the gate by letting people pay for EA access premier. Buy in for a month and never play that train wreck again.

In 3 weeks ea going to lose both subs and players in Anthem and it will be shit canned ina year. That or Free to play.
