i liked it
but it was too short, guy should make a sequel
>horrible combat
>boring enemies and bosses
>bad music
>bad visuals
>incomplete half-baked story
>pathetic amount of areas stretched out by backtracking
sounds like this genre isnt for you
Music is great, artwork is nice, but gameplay is not that good, it's heavy on constant shooting without any rhyme or reason. Play Environmental Station Alpha instead. That ost is pure soul.

Rabi-Ribi and La-Mulana are the best metroidvania, just play those
Oh and play hollow knight if you are braindead and deserve to die
You're right, I never could get into the "shitty games" genre
I'm not him, but I completed ESA and dropped Axiom on third hour. It's a bad metroidvania, that's all. He is wrong about music, though.
beta male protag
i disliked the rng weapons in the hidden rng side areas.
but otherwise i liked it. it was too short though.
a while back tomas happ talked to some italian gaming magazine about already working on the sequel.
great? you're taking it too far
it was ok
What kind of game is it even?
>horrible combat
the combat is closer to a megaman game so its way more precise, and you don't get flooded with energy tanks so you always need to be careful
>boring enemies and bosses
why do you think that? the enemy design is pretty decent, there are many enemies that behave differently and you need different weapons to kill them instead of just shoot until they die
>bad music
>bad visuals
you're just baiting at this point
>incomplete half-baked story
just for the fact that is not an alien clone i already think its decent, but why would you expect a great story on a metroidvania game?
>pathetic amount of areas stretched out by backtracking
you know its a metroidvania right?
It sounded great, but then I read that it was made by one guy. That alone made decide against buying it.
Sorry, I may be biased, but 1 man can't make a game that is decent in every aspect. In addition, I hate when they use this card to explain away any potential shortcoming it may have. It was not my decision for it to be made by 1 guy, so I shouldn't have to judge it in its own category.
In any case, this is the reason I'm steering clear of it and I just wanted to vent.
It's "metroidvania", but plays like shooter as clunky as Metroid, and without inventive level design.
>Sorry, I may be biased, but 1 man can't make a game that is decent in every aspect.
you just proved his point.
>pathetic amount of areas stretched out by backtracking
...
cope
Well, Rain World was made basically by two people, and that is my GOAT. It is also kinda metroidvania, so it is related. Environmental Stantion Alpha was made by one man, except music and sounds, and that is a must-play. Hero Core is very nice, and was made by one person. I'm roasting Axiom here, but try to calm your autism, facts prove it to be wrong.
>i don't like the game because it was made by just one guy
now thats the most stupid post i've read today
Undertale wasn't made by 1 guy.
This game also gets excused for the trash artstyle becase it's good enough for a game that was made by 1 person, but this shit wouldn't fly otherwise. Change my mind.
Bevause it does Metroid better tham Metroid, and Nincels can't hanfle that
art doesn't exist in a vacuum my good bitch
you wouldn't exist if your mom's vagina didn't vacuum you out of my dick like a good bitch either
Bland design and not enough soul. Hollow Knight is much better in every way.
got this shit for free on the epicstore, and holyshit im so glad the tossed this out for free and didnt pay a single coin for it.
i played all metroids and therefore love the genre, and when i bought hollow knight last year i wanted to buy axiom verge too - im so glad i didnt.
i stopped playing it after two hours and totally lost interest in it. its not terrible per se, just fucking boring.
the "story" is boring. the environment is boring (did they really just copy those bubbles from metroid? ) and there are even more giger-styled things than in the whole metroid franchise - which only exists because ALIEN. the main character is boring. the enemies are boring, the first enemy you encounter is just a less iconic version of metroid´s zoomer/geemer, the rest of the creatures is just stolen from contra. the weird hacking tool feels out of place.
Just won a bid for this on vita what am I in for?
The art is better than SNES Harvest Moon, which is what it was inspired by, and that game was made by a team of people.
hallow knights a brawler lol
>The art is better than SNES Harvest Moon
No.
>review scores
not him but dafuq are you saying?
a fun metroid clone
even comparing this abomination to hollow knight is like comparing the sictine chaeppel to a badly builded shack in the woods made by some inbred hillybillies
because it costs like 30 bucks and never goes on sale below 20! THIS IS LITERALLY THE ONLY REASON!!!
I love this game. It has such a good atmosphere. Exploration is great and really feels like I'm lost in some mysterious world. It's great at giving the sense you're in an area you're not supposed to be. The story, game mechanics, and graphics all are intertwined in a way that makes them feel very natural to be together and it plays a bit on the players knowledge of games. Exploration is very rewarding because there's a shit ton of weapons to find so you're often finding something unique, if not a direct powerup. creative puzzles and secrets, unique mechanics. beautiful bootleg gameboy graphics that take full advantage of the glitchy theme. story has really neat ideas somewaht let down by the presentation, but theres certain parts of the game where it shines(hallucination sequence).
it was literally free on epic store a while ago
i wouldnt trust anyone who uses epic store to have a worthwhile opinion
I've never heard of anybody hating it, but it's not mind blowingly good. It's just regular-old decent. I remember liking it but having problems with it related to it being a one-man job:
-There's a bunch of obvious cut content, and a lot of story threads don't go anywhere for lack of time (specifically the intrigue with the robot ladies and the breach attractor).
-The bosses are very static, slow-moving and obvious to read. Which is fine, I get he wanted to do stuff like Kraid and when you draw up those bigass sprites like Uruku there's not a lot of animating you can do. But there's isn't really a Ridley moment or an oh-shit Torizo style boss.
-A lot of the music is really obvious chiptune and glitch plugin stuff mixed with some really cliche soundbanks everybody on earth has used before.
Like it's fine. I enjoyed it and would buy another one and it's probably not actually "hated" by anybody. It just ain't "absolutely amazing metroidvania 10/10 GOAT" shit.
the movement and the power-ups are pretty boring, and the game isn't as nonlinear as it seems. neither the artstyle nor the music are pleasing or memorable. it's basically the original Metroid but with more weapons and a bigger map. just like the original Metroid, it gets btfo by Super Metroid hard
Axiom Verge is really unremarkable as far as Metroidvanias go, yet for some odd reason it has never gone on sale for more than 50% off. I wouldn't call it a bad game, but I can't bring myself to recommend playing it over any other game at in the genre, or at all until the price lowers to 5 usd.
fuck off gabe
>Sorry, I may be biased, but 1 man can't make a game that is decent in every aspect.
Cave Story was kind of the first indie game to get a lot of recognition in the west, and it was made by one guy.
Because Yea Forums is full of faggots that hate everything except for the things in this picture
>no madotsuki
Remove Alucard & replace him with Madotsuki like the user below said
How does Axiom Verge compare to Environmental Station Alpha? I have mixed feelings about ESA because there were fuck-all beam upgrades, almost all health upgrades required backtracking, and savepoints weren't placed before bossfights. Call me a casual, but ESA felt like it prioritized difficulty over any other aspect of game design.
That second panel definitely shows my feelings. I didn't hate it, I definitely didn't like it. I would rate it 5 or 6 out of 10.
