Because women. In most species with female dominant sexual selection it's entirely up to the genetic fitness of the male to prove himself to just about any female he can get. The genetic health of the female is a very lax factor in this, the stress for better genes is placed solely on the males.

In humans, because sexual dimorphism focused to improve birth success rates after going bipedal fucked us in that regard, women developed weaker bodies and started depending on men to survive.
Men gained an advantage in this in that female dependence meant greater investment than just a quick fuck and so this meant placing importance on better women to invest into.

That is to say, men gained partial sexual selective behavior by paying attention to women with better reproductive traits (Boobs becoming ass shaped is evidence of this). So the deal was men would pay attention and go after better women and those women would pull from the best of those male pools meaning some women lost the game.

Women, having never been selected for in the entire history of simian evolution have yet to evolve the sheer coping mechanisms of men of which biologically many will be "filtered" (die without reproducing). When men compete we try to prove our worth and always put out hope that we'll be successful; women compete by just leaving or harassing better looking women away (or trickery I.E makeup).
They can not stand the idea of being judged, this is why they pretend that they dress like whores for "themselves" and not men. They can't comprehend that men can judge the "perfection" that is them.
