Over 80% of women (including children) that cross the border will get kidnapped, used as sexual workers or slaves. Since there's no way to confirm that the parents of the kids are actually theirs (most illegals aren't even Mexican anyways, but by destroying their papers and saying they are they get dropped at the border and they can try again), the kids are in custody until they can confirm they're relatives and then they're deported.
