Someone do me a quick favor and talk me into spending ~$400 so I can play this one game I haven't had access to since n64 because Nintendo sucks a big fat cock and refuses access for any other system or PC so you have to buy a system every time a game comes out.
No, really. Talk me into it please. I want to play it but the price hurts so bad for what seems like smash bros and zelda being the only things I'll want.
don't buy an entire console for two games. you can play zelda and smash 4 on cemu for free and yuzu will probably be able to emulate smash ultimate relatively soon as well. the switch has plenty of great games if you never owned a wiiu though.
Thomas Taylor
Eh most of my friends don't play video games. I have one friend that I hang out with once or twice a week that would play but most of the time it would be me playing online/single-player zelda. Especially since I would play 10x more than him and be too good for "fun" matches, Maybe there are other Nintendo games I'd like but I'm not a nintendo cuck so I don't know. I just want to beat the shit out of people and I liked 64/melee.
Last nintendo console I had was 64, I had access to a gamecube too at my friends house but that's about it. It always seemed like they released garbo gimmick systems every 2 weeks so any game you wanted was just like this, an enormously expensive endeavor.
I'm pretty sure this will be the last smash bros game though, and I hate jumping into something like that so super late. I will look into the emulators, I saw one trying to emulate breath of the wild and it didn't work at all though. Maybe they've come far enough since then.
Jaxon Nguyen
If the price hurts that much then either your economic situation seems pretty bad, did you just update your rig or do you have second hobby eating your budget?
Generally though, Smash 4 is pretty useless if you don't have friends who also play Smash, and considering your situation, both economic and as a person not having touched the series since 64 and therefore likely never had anyone in your friend circle that did either i would say you shouldn't get one, just get Dolphin and play Melee/Brawl to get it out of your system, especially if the reason your money situation is tight is due upgrading your PC, cause in that case your rig should be able to emulate these well, even modded, not sure how Cemu stands but maybe you could even do Smash 4 and really kill your Smash Ultimate Buzz.
Christian Adams
Emulating melee isn't exactly as difficult as emulating botw
Luis Price
>Maybe they've come far enough since then zelda runs at 4k 60+ fps and has mods if your pc isn't trash youtube.com/watch?v=r6EGK8CcsnQ
if you're going to buy a switch, i'd wait for the next revision, since you won't find a hackable old model at this point anyway.
i bought a switch 'just for smash' and ended up buying a lot more games than i expected. it's a great console for wiiu ports and indie games. the exclusives aren't bad either.
Henry Stewart
Economic situation is fine, I just don't like "wasting" money. Bought a $1600 PC 6 months ago so buying things that don't work with it is kind of a slap in the dick.
If this is true then fuck it. Last time I looked into the emu scene, BoTW ran at like 8fps, physics were blown out etc. It's not smash but even if it was I couldn't play online anyway. My pc is beefy as fuck should be able to run anything. I'll look into it thank you, Zelda was another itch but I've been on a fighting game kick recently (bought Tekken 7/DBZ) and none of them felt as awesome as I remember 64/melee feeling. Also doesn't help that I've been watching melee/ultimate matches on youtube for like 4 years straight.
>I just don't like "wasting" money. >Bought a $1600 PC
Thomas Cooper
i did it and didn't regret it also idm playing ports in bed on an ~ok~ IPS
Jack Perry
You're dumb, and will replace your computer multiple times before I even consider a part upgrade. Ask your parents for an advance on your allowance and maybe you can buy a stick of RAM.
The handheld part is something that would probably see absolutely zero use for me. It would just be a console which I was hoping they would release a version of that would be cheaper. I haven't kept up with the Nintendo scene since I was a kid, so I don't really know any of their games. Heard the fire emblem series was good, if I get this emulator working I'll have to try some of the others.
Switch is worth it, I got one with Smash, Zelda, Splatoon, and Mario, all excellent games, and there are of course more but I want to finish up the ones I bought initially before buying any more And not just the games, but the system itself is great, very convenient
Jacob Miller
Yeah it's very very tempting to me every time, but I haven't caved yet. Came close on WiiU, coming closer on Switch considering all the characters are in it and the longer I don't play the better everyone else gets.
Yeah I'll have to look on the emulator or maybe watch gameplay of some other stuff. I've gone Smash blind in the last few years. Made a post on FB asking if any of my friends have one so we can play online but I doubt it. For someone who has played games all his life, I somehow ended up with a group of friends that never play them.
Nicholas Green
it's not worth it if you played smash before you've played this one
Jackson Morris
I mean if you don't want to play it enough or if you don't afford it then just don't play it, you're placing some sort of burden of proof on others like they should want you to buy it. I don't care, play what you want.
Jackson Mitchell
>burden of proof I'm asking people to tell me about it from their experience so I can figure out if I want it for myself since I've been out of the loop. If you like a game console and don't want other people to play it, did you ever actually like it in the first place?
Everyone keeps alluding to it being the last one. I don't know if that's true since this one has been raking in cash hand over fist, but with all the characters in it(and everyone getting used to the slightly different mechanics of them), it feels like a good point to join back in. Fighting games are not easy to jump into years later, improving can be insanely difficult at that point.
I heard there's already a Switch 2 in production, hopefully they figured out a way to make it cheaper, but I highly doubt that's their goal.
>I'm asking people to tell me about it from their experience so I can figure out if I want it for myself since I've been out of the loop. If you like a game console and don't want other people to play it, did you ever actually like it in the first place? I liked it, maybe you'll like it too, buy it.
The competitive scene is pretty great even if it gets a bad rep sometimes
Ayden Brooks
Spend $50 on a Wii U and pirate Smash 4
Ultimate isn't different enough for someone like you to justify an extra $350
Brody Gomez
just emulate Smash 4 wait a year and Smash U will be fully emulateable too.
i spent 400€ on switch+smash and for the past week i've been playing it online with 2 friends constantly but I will still buy more games for it to justify the 330€ i paid for the console.
Isaac Davis
There are some free titles you can also play when you aren't playing SMASH. Some of them even have Crossplay:
Paladins Warframe Fortnite Jumping Joe & Friends GALAK-Z
Asher Moore
Are you a fan of multiplayer competitive games where you can grind your rank?
I’m someone who played League of Legends obsessively, loves games like Apex Legends where I can “beat” other players and get that competitive thirst quenched.
If that’s you Smash is incredible. PVP at it’s most personal and fast paced. I play it every day regardless of whatever other game i’m playing. And between rotating between 2v2, free for all and 1v1, and obsessing over GSP, I literally never get tired of it (not to mention the huge cast).
If you ENJOY COMPETITIVE GAMES. Smash is a 10/10. Literally could not endorse it more, and this is coming from someone who let my switch collect dust for well over 6-8 months after BOTW
Kayden Sullivan
>complains that a company only releases games on their own systems and not competitors >actually thinks that nintendo is going to stop making games in one of their biggest series and system sellers ever just keep your money and spend it on something that you need
>I'm pretty sure this will be the last smash bros game though
THIS. You are right. This is Sad. But it's TRUE. Also, pretty much, maybe, Nintendo Switch is gonna be the last Nintendo Console. - President of Nintendo said Nintendo is each day bowing to Cinema/ Thematic Parks and Mobile Games (mobile games means almost becoming third party = releasing nintendo games to other platforms such as sony/xbox)
Ethan Cooper
You think you want Zelda but you don't, it's awful. Switch has plenty of other great games though. Go for it my dude.
Brody Carter
I mean.. if there's so many good games (and upcoming titles) on the system and you're tempted then why the fuck wouldn't you buy it? Switch 2 is a meme rumor btw and even if it wasn't, you'd still get the new one in a trade-in or some shit. I bought wii u only for smash and haven't regretted a single bit
I'm talking about the Official Nintendo Server Online Mode. I repeat, Emulators can't play Nintendo games online.
Liam Edwards
This is just the emulator online server hosted by the emulator
Aiden Kelly
I only ever buy new Nintendo consoles for Smash. Personally I think it's worth every penny but I also already have 300 hours in Ultimate. [2]
Nicholas Carter
I'd say go for it, 1 friend that would play regularly with you should be enough to feel like it's worth. Don't think that people that don't play regularly won't easily get into smash too, if you play it 4+ as a party game and don't shy away too much from items even a complete beginner will have lots of fun with it, one of my friends went from not buying consoles since the PS2 to getting a switch because he got hooked at my sunday evening parties.
Carson Evans
71 damn characters, man! buy it!
Adam Mitchell
Do you like Nintendo games? If yes then just buy the system. If not, then stick with your PC. Unless you have interest in the games that Nintendo makes then you won't get much use out of the Switch. I bought it because I wanted to play Nintendo games and the Switch was a handheld. If you're only interested in two games then I suggest waiting until more exclusives arrive that interest you.
Joseph Cook
>Ultimate isn't different enough Ultimate has air dodge directional and Special B can choose left or right. How can you say nothing changed?!
Carter Jackson
>Didn't watch the video It's connecting to official Nintendo servers, you have to dump files off a real Wii U for it to work (which technically means you can't just have a emulator connect to Nintendo's servers without owning nintendo hardware, but it's still the emulator connecting in the end so I digress) but it's still the PC doing the emulating work playing with real Wii U's through Nintendos online service. Before Cemu, Dolphin could connect to Nintendo servers for Brawl and such no problem before the Wii servers were shut down.
Sebastian Watson
>I'd say go for it go for it
Wyatt Bell
>75 characters >nothing to do with them but VS AI and VS players immense disappointment
James Bennett
>caring about anything other than multiplayer >in a fighting/party game i sure do miss autistically hitting stationary targets and the sandsack for thousands of hours
Jeremiah Wilson
>my sunday evening parties. my boy cousin also does evening parties like that too with Smash U. And I enden up doing some evening parties with Smash U too. [he has many and myself few] [number of friends]
Lincoln Richardson
>Switch was a handheld Switch is a desk console
Ryder Mitchell
>and refuses access for any other system or PC >IT'S ONLY BAD WHEN NINTENDO DOES IT Never understood this maymay.
Camden Roberts
Here all emulators suck, because all pcs suck. Here in Brazil PCs just can't play good emulators (for GameCube and above) even less online mode, which will Lag as hell. So, seeing someone talking about emulators always kind of cringes me.
Brody Wilson
Yeah, I didn't watch your video.
Joseph Powell
I think Nintendo should continue being owner of itself.
Angel Adams
Well I main Roy (Mario Series).
Connor Foster
>Nintendo should continue Nintendo
Benjamin Thomas
It's not only bad when nintendo does it, but nintendo does only that, and their consoles are usually gimmicky underpowered shit that you're forced to buy to play anything they make. They also tend to not be good for anything else but playing their games. Sony/Microsoft have exclusives but it's not every single game, and they don't make you play them through the lens of a stupid fucking wiifit board or flail your arms around like an asshole.
>underpowered shit that you're forced to buy to play anything they make. So like literally every console manufacturer. >and they don't make you play them through the lens of a stupid fucking wiifit board or flail your arms around like an asshole. Christ, did you just wake up from a 12 year long coma or something, what the fuck are you even talking about? How does this relate to the Switch, fuck, how does this even relate to the Wii U?
>and they don't make you play them through the lens of a stupid fucking wiifit board or flail your arms around like an asshole. This is true, the Wii and Wii U suck for these reasons. And I'm saying it being a Nintendist myself.
Adrian Davis
He expected 23$#$23432
Christopher White
That guy isn't me. I'm me. OP still lurking just been doing stuff around the house mulling it over.
I don't really know why I got into watching melee stuff but I did. Watched the smash documentary and whatnot, I know about a lot of the complexities in the movement systems, teching and wavedashes and whatnot. I just don't ever get to play the games myself. I've kept up with tournaments since I started watching them years ago, it seems like a lot of fun I'm just worried playing online only would get boring like it did with Tekken 7 and I'd be out $400 for a book-end.
>So like literally every console manufacturer What would I need to buy a Playstation for? God of war here, bloodborne there? There are a million games made for it and 90% of them are on pc. A ton of the "exclusives" are later released for PC/xbox anyway and vice-versa. You can't play -any- nintendo shit without their consoles. I understand not wanting to port stuff out but never? Literally never?
A friend of mine had Wii and we were playing wii sports and he was giggling and drooling out of his mouth and I just didn't understand it at all. Twilight princess seemed ok (I barely got to play it) but only if you plugged an actual controller in anyway. Same thing with Smash and those tiny controllers, you have to cut out the gimmicks entirely with every nintendo to play their games properly. I loved S/NES and N64 but even N64 was kind of retarded with their weird controller that didn't need to look like that.
>smash documentary Really? From a TV Channel? give me more info about this documentary so I can find it, or send me the link for it in YouTube, I wanna watch
Also to be clear it's a documentary on the players/community of the game rather than a documentary on nintendo or anything like that.
Nolan Bell
>What would I need to buy a Playstation for? God of war here, bloodborne there? Yes you focking donkey, if you want first party games you -need- to get the first party console, same exact shit applies for both Sony and Nintendo, Microsoft is the only exception but only because of Windows (you won't see their games releasing for Linux and Mac when it comes to PC). Third party games are the -only- ones to give you options when it comes to systems.
Hudson Sanders
buy a wiiu and hack it instead imo.
Juan Harris
Nintendo was very ok with controllers since the beginning, and the GameCube controller is the best Nintendo controller and was the LAST decent controller Nintendo had (as of main controller of a platform, not talking sold separately "pro" controllers)
Jackson Fisher
completely unwatchable due to the narrators tryhard morpheus impression
Aiden Thompson
THANKS. OMG 4 hours of it. I'll get an afternoon someday to watch it full.
Daniel Reyes
If you haven't played smash since 64 you won't be happy with your purchase
Eli Lopez
Yeah, I imaginated. Nintendo have never done any documentary. lol.
Jackson Rivera
Eh I guess his voice is a little odd. I don't know how often he interjects, mostly it's the players talking but he might do it all the time, I didn't really take note of it.
Cool dude, I really liked it. I started watching melee vids one night at work and found myself interested, this popped up on the sidebar and I really enjoyed it. I guess it's like people with sports, they watch even though they aren't/can't play.
I used to work in a game store (game crazy) when wii was a big thing so I got to play melee a good bit. They encouraged us to play games when no customers were around so I got that at least. I was too broke to buy the system for one game at the time, and now I'm too old to throw my money away for one game, though I'm still really on the fence about it.
>I can play this one game I haven't had access to since n64 >I liked 64/melee
OK OP
Dominic Young
I also used to have friends who were into nintendo stuff, I went the playstation route personally. I got time with some of the games but I played maybe 2 matches of Brawl in total and only got to play melee when people weren't in the store. They didn't like old titles loaded in the new systems anyway, so it was even more limited than that. It was just vs bots there to boot so it wasn't the best thing ever.
Cool Story. When I was kid I remember entering a game store and found the seller was playing a FPS game on a kinda small tv. So the game stores encourages sellers to do that, cool. fair enough. But here wasn't Game Crazy.
Isaac Johnson
minigames are FUN when you only have a short time or are shit at the main game. unfortunately closest we've got is spirit battles which slightly mix up gameplay
Jeremiah Stewart
In this kind of sentence, it'd be more "(the thing) is cringy." instead of "(the thing) cringes me.", the latter isn't a thing anyone says. You could say "I think (the thing) is cringy", but either way saying hearing about emulators on competent PCs is "cringy" is a weird thing to put. Do you mean more "Hearing about emulators always annoys me because PCs in Brazil suck and can't run them."?
Kevin Clark
are you OP?
Brody Campbell
>$400 is a lot of money for an entertainment product that should last me 4 or 5 years You could buy a lot of books for $400, but otherwise, you're not going to get a better value. Most people spend that much on restaurants, fast food, junk food, and coffee in a month, so just live on frozen vegetables, inexpensive cuts of meat, and canned soup for a while and that'll cover it. Alternatively, if you have another hobby like miniatures, card games, or collecting watches/clothes/etc or modding a car, then let that take a break for a month or two. Finally, if you're being a responsible adult and putting 10% of every paycheque into a Savings account, then two months should cover it, even if your income is on the lower end, between 1 and 2 thousand dollars takehome. I've played the fuck out of every Smash game, and Ultimate is the best so far. It fixes all the niggling problems that were apparent in Brawl and 4. Nobody on the roster is actually useless (except Bowser Jr.) and the Classic mode is great because it's tailored differently for each character. Finally, as much as everyone bitches about the online, it's the least-worst so far.
Matthew Phillips
Apparently at GameStop if you get caught playing video games you're fired (maybe it's different now idk). They told me that when I applied there and I thought that was an odd way to treat people who liked video games, so I didn't work there. Game Crazy encouraged you to try the games so you knew more about them to sell them, as long as the store was in order/clean. Was a good system because everyone was always running around cleaning all the time so they could play.
>(as of main controller of a platform, not talking sold separately "pro" controllers) I was about to say, since the Switch's pro controller is pretty fucking solid.
Eli Jones
There's a question I should ask. The pro controller, is it big? I have freakishly large hands, the xbox one controller I use for pc is big but i can't use the tips of my thumbs for the analog sticks, I use the first knuckle on them. On ps2(and ps3 to a lesser extent) if a game used both analog sticks I would mash my thumbs together constantly.
If you do end up getting a Switch for Smash, you should also try out Splatoon 2. Splatoon 2 + Smash easily make the Switch worth the price with how replayable they are.
Angel Torres
As far as I can tell it's the same size as the 360 and Xbone controller.
Aaron Kelly
>pic for reference Actually dumb for not asking about it sooner because that would be a quick dealbreaker. Not sure about a gamecube controller, I haven't touched one in a decade and don't remember what they feel like.
I'll check out some gameplay thanks. I saw some and it kind of looked like super mario sunshine with the paint stuff. Not sure if that's good or bad.
Oh you answered already my bad. Ok that should be fine then, it looks like they emulated the layout for the pro controller too so if it's roughly the same size that should be fine. Thanks dude.
Also I got to get it out there, early print pro controllers have atrocious D-Pads (really not sure how they managed to fuck that up). If you do plan on getting one make sure it's a newer print one like the Smash Bros. edition, standard black ones might be safe too since they constantly get reprinted.
