I didn't really like KOTOR much at first either (played it at release back in the day) but once If you can push past the turn based RPG mechanics it really is a fantastic game with an even better sequel.

i used to play sabers only duels competitively back in Jedi Academy's heyday and was ranked top 25 on bladeworks which was the best dueling league

single saber was what 90% of the top players mained, simply the most versatile and strongest style with the best penetration and the most options. if you got good enough at wiggling you could nearly instakill people with a single touch.

staff was a good counter to single saber strong style but it only had one or two good attack patterns for fighting single saber medium and light styles meaning your average staff user was going to play very predictibly

dual sabers were a meme, I never saw anyone use them seriously
