Yes. As long as you are okay with a heavily narrative driven story, and the talk about linearity(in the first game) is not an exaggeration up until the second half of the game. It has likable characters and very fun combat. Make sure you read the datalog. Makes it all much more interesting.

I didn't like 2 as much but a lot of people think it's better, and I haven't played much of 3 yet but I liked it and a lot of people think it's the best one.

They're good for various reasons but they are flawed. And part of liking a game is accepting it's flaws
13 has not so stellar pacing and an incredibly linear nature that puts even IX to shame.
13-2 is directionless halfway in and might be faulted for being too open ended
