People lose interest and move on to the next big thing, people who buy games they have already beaten on Steam so that they have them if they ever get a itch to replay, people who but games they pirated to support the devs but never actually install because they prefer the pirated version.
Loads of ways.
Go play the hollow knight ttrpg fags
It's been a while, but isn't becoming the Vessel the 'bad end'?
People who play metroidvanias tend to go for full completion
I played for like 10 minutes, hated the art style and never came back.
It's 15 bucks and constantly on sale for even cheaper. That's a lot of impulse buys or people who liked the game gifting it to their friends who might not even play it to begin with.
The bad is achieved by 15% of players. The good end (defeat the Radiance) is achieved by 10% of players. The ultra-ultra-autistic-good-end where you fight every boss in the game in a row is at 1%.
>Buy game on sale/in bundle that's super cheap
>Don't even bother playing it
Steam libaries in a nutshell
That's a pretty standard number for game completion. Most people who buy a game don't finish it, especially if the game's been on sale or part of a bundle.
It's at 0.7%
One day I'll get it and drink with my fellow autists in the halls of the gods
I imagine that most people who raved about the game here actually did complete it, but you gotta understand Hollow Knight is cheap as fuck, and during sales when it goes to like 66% off people on Steam are gonna be buying it just because.
Looking at Steam achievements is interesting, but what you should be doing is comparing the first achievements to final ones. See where the players start dropping the game.
For example, Just 64% of players have beaten the first boss, and barely half have done the second.
>and become the Vessel
I don't actually have this ending since I got the good ending instead.
I also don't have the game on Steam so whatever.
bought it on sale, was playing it a bunch and I like it but I can't keep myself interested in it and I'm not sure why
I got as far as the dung defender (who is fucking awesome) and I haven't really picked it up since, been playing other things (RE2, Trails of Cold Steel, Ace Combat 7) instead
Its souls death system is like ok but weird and unnecessary
combat is really good
something about all the environments just doesn't really grip me, like fuck the fungal wastes
music is good though and I love the charm system
idk man
just kind of stressful to play
Since this is a HK thread, has anyone tried playing it with M&KB? My gamepad is fried and I don't want to buy another one just for HK
im pretty sure this is the generic ending every will take because the dreamers are marked on your map
You really think every single Steam user visits Yea Forums on a regular basis?
The problem with enviroments is that there's no slopes!
did you get the wall jump ability?
the game's usually on sale and its long as fuck if you're doing all the side content
what did you expect
Yeah I've got the mantis claws and I even killed the Soul Master (after a couple tries too)
I watched the first 40 minutes of speedrun today and it was doing and going all kinds of crazy places I have no idea about too so I know there's a fuckton of game and I know it's good but again I dunno
What game?
because having only 15% of your players beat the game is actually bad game design but that doesn't matter because some of you guys want to fuck cute bugs or something
Environmental Station Alpha.
cringe /pol/ fag
>only 15% of our readers finished my book
>must be a bad book
>only 15% of our viewers finished my movie
>must be a bad movie
>only 15% of our players finished our game
>GOTY GOYTY GOYTY XDXX ddD WE MUST LIKE IT BECAUSE OF COGNITIVE DISSONANCE
journey, not destination
we are the 15%
because it's boring.
Incel Game
Art style is the only thing this boring as fuck platformer has going for it. The game itself is shallow garbage.
Like if there's one game that invokes the collective groan when you hear "artistic indie metroidvania" this is the first game I think of.
not him but you do have a point
but the problem is that vidya isnt really comparable to movies or books since you actually have to move your hands to acomplish something in a game
A vocal minority hyped it up so lots of people bought it and realised it doesn't do anything special.
you dont have to turn a page in a book?
you can do that without having to think
same with pressing play on a movie
post your hollow knight hours user
also kill yourself you shit tasting shitter
it overstays the fuck out of its welcome, by the time I killed the second dreamer and explored a bit of side stuff (like 20 hours in or something) I just wanted it to be over already. uninstalled, reinstalled later, then decided yeah fuck this and uninstalled again. generic as balls metroidvania with lots of tedium, hot damn it is way to long for what it is
Maybe its just me, but I don't like metroidvania games where you only get new abilities but not new weapons. Apart from the Castlevania games what can I play that gives me this?
i left at colosseum of fools, planning to go back but you know how it is
How are you autists surprised that people don't finish games?
>steamcommunity.com
Cuphead literally has 13.1% players finish it normal.
>steamcommunity.com
If we go for other overrated metroidvanias, Ori only has like 28.3% finish it and that's not even a hard platformer.
>steamcommunity.com
Celeste is another one.
>steamcommunity.com
Fucking Shovel Knight has 33%.
Shit's insane. And mind you, these are all games that aren't even as half as along as Hollow Knight.
I beat it on Switch. It's not a bad game, but for a metroidvania the movement options are limited and the exploration is always barebones. I also felt like the combat was fairly simple (although controls are nice and smooth). Different areas struggle to look distinct enough too which combined with everything else makes the game feel tedious and repetitive after the first 2-3 hours. I'm guessing that's the "drop point" for a lot of players. Oh, and the soulslike mechanic felt shoehorned in. I think that mostly covers it. It's a 7/10- I'm sure people who give it 10s are inexperienced with the metroidvania genre. Play Environmental Station Alpha instead.
i just want to say inflammatory things and have HKtards reply to me, I don't actually care about that
Is that really something you should be doing at your age?
>Cuphead literally has 13.1% players finish it normal.
What the actual fuck?
This is even worse than what OP posted.
What is wrong with all these people?
im gay
>100% of people have played this game exclusively on steam
based retard, if anything steam is the least representation of a videogame retention, because most of these fags buy shit on humble bundles along with many other games, boot it up for a few mins, then move onto the next game and repeat this process ad infinitum.
Or maybe your missing something in the stats you dumb
This game was far more popular on Switch. I'd be curious to know what completion rate is on Switch, but Nintendo doesn't do cheevos (and that's a good thing!)
I don't think you retards understand just how few people finish video games. Final Fantasy 7 sold 10 million copies, I bet only 1 million completed it. Normies are normies for a reason.
Last I heard the devs said that the game sold like a combined 2.8M. It reached 1M sales last year just before the Switch release and within two weeks it sold 250k on the Switch and ever since it's always been part of the best selling list.
So probably like what? Switch bagged HK more than 1M more sales?
>that huge knight was really a crazy maggot
Hmm should I not have freed those heavily guarded worms?
I wonder what the statistics are on the Switch version
Actually he wasn't crazy, he was one of the few sane bugs in the game just trying to protect his bros.
I am genuinely surprised that's as high as it is. Consider all the "Complete the tutorial: 43%" achievements on steam. And plenty of people will have quit the game out of one boss or the other. For a game that's on sale reasonably often, 15% is a solid score.
I bought it on Switch
This. You must realize that like 60 percent of players are completely incapable of beating the first boss. I'm not saying it will be very tough for them, I'm saying they are INCAPABLE. No matter how many times they try they will not beat the first boss.
hey now the numbers are a little better than that
as someone who played 6~ hours when it launched and is now coming back to it, is there anything i should know to do? or stuff i explicitly shouldnt do to lock myself out of a good ending or content or whatever? last time i played i got up to a big empty city and some kind of mantis warrior camp
you can only lock yourself out of the basic ending, but it's very hard to do blind
Keyboard is fine for HK since it doesnt really take advantage of the 360 movement from thumbstick anyway. It might be a bit more difficult, but you should be fine.
After all, there are people that literally play HK using the dpad
Some eReaders have a feature to automatically turn a page after a time delay, so you can read a whole book without any physical input besides clicking on the book's title to open it.
How could anyone hate the artstyle?
You can lock yourself out of the bad ending, but you should anyway. That's really it.
the game is good!
....Umm, there's slopes in that pic though
People shit on HK because "it's a 2D flash game lmao". Mostly kids.
How very Americanesque
Hollow knight is easily one of the shittiest indie games i've ever played
that's not Hollow Knight, retard
because there are color impaired shill on this board constantly
the game is legit ass
a grind
the souls system is totally unnecessary
the performance is sub par
the artwork is made of shades of black with a hint of color
it is a glorified metroidvania with zoomer features that are a waste of time, shilled by journos worldwide
and it even corrupted my save file
fuck
>both extremely popular 2D games
>both 15% completion for the "normal" end
What does it mean?
Sounds like you’re having the same issue I had. The game is extremely overwhelming. It feels like the more you discover, the more you realize you have yet to explore. It feels like you’re gonna miss out on so much and it’ll take forever. Just don’t look up a map and try to plan routes to rush the game. I did that and now I really regret it. I don’t remember much of the map and not knowing what the map had in store for me keeps the mysterious feeling the world of Hollow Knight gives you.
Well the Hunter's journal called him mad and that guy seems pretty on-the-level.
Regular triple A game completion percentage rarely goes above 30. People don’t play the games they buy.
Everyone admires the game for its style/ music/ etc. but the gameplay isn't really entertaining enough to hold the attention of most people for 30 hours.
The Hunter's journal (secondary descriptions) is more like his opinion about the enemies, not something that is lore accurate.
That's not how that works
Plenty of people buy cheap games and never play them
Just how it is
>everyone on steam is on Yea Forums
The maggot killed the real knight while he was sleeping.
find me any game with a completion rate of over 33%
It really is not overwhelming. Try some actual grand strategy or old school dungeon crawling for actual overwhelming.
Do you not trust the opinion of a totally helpfull stranger?
I played around 4 hours of it before I just had enough of just how shitty it is, and this is coming from someone who usually likes metroidvanias.
This dude is acting like we can't tell he's samefagging.
Gatekeeping
It's overwhelming for people that usually play these games and rely a lot on automap
This is the top description actually, for the False Knight.
It is also coming from an anime poster which means the post can be automatically discarded.
>”gatekeeping”
Go back to r/games, r/gamingcirclejerk or whatever shithole you crawled from.
or maybe 85% of people are plebs
>Gatekeeping
Blow your brains out.
You don't 'beat' books or movies. The only thing you need are eyes, ears and literacy for those. Games take more skill to get through. Your bait's gay and your shit's all retarded.
You know causing drama for the sake of drama is the behavior of a teenage girl, right, user?
The fuck is going on with you guys?
Does that word somehow trigger Yea Forums now?
I wonder.
Let's play a game Yea Forums. Think of a game you like that's on steam.
Then go to the achievement page to see how many people got to the, at least bare minimum, normal ending.
I didn't know.
Either way, a lot of people will feel anxiety because of how the map system is in HK that's all I was trying to convey.
Having to purchase a map and sitting down on a bench to update said map gives a lot of people anxiety of missing out.
It's overwhelming how big the game and maps can be when you don't know where you're going.
Not for me but for others perhaps.
because it's an art piece, it should be in your library to show others that you're a cool guy
doesn't matter if you play it all
The very concept is laughable.
>Enter the Gungeon
>Defeat the Dragun
>only 19%
It's not even the Lich.
*takes 2 life off you each hit*
fuck this retard bug
I noticed that steam tends to be extremely retarded, even more so than xbox with achievement's %, unforfunately psn has more trophy earners than those two, giving me less ultra rares.
Yet the very concept exists and people that behave this way are on this very board.
There's been times when I've not had an achievement register on steam because I had the achievements list open.
why do psvita and sonyfriends care about trophies so much?
a lot of people pirate and buy later during sell.
Because I bought the game on Switch.
You haven't seen anything yet, believe me
PC gamers dont play games, look at the achievements for game completion for any game
This board is full of shills. Remember Atom Rpg? That pile of trash was spammed 24/7 here.
remember Pathfinder
remember DMC5 shilling that is happening even now
Are you suggesting the three Aussies who made this are paying people to post about it here?
>radiant absolute radiance
>getting to the second phase more often
>got to the final phase three times in the last hour
>died on the way up twice
>third time made it up but immediately died because one of the light balls spawned in an awkward place
I hate this fucking fight more than I've hated anything else ever, but I AM getting better at it. And in it's own way that makes this a really fun fight. I HATE it, but it's fun.
who here /elite/
It whas part of the Humble Monthly.
And its usualy super cheap on sale.
And a lot of pirates who beat the gog version then bought it on steam.
I've 100+% the game and haven't got that achievement. I can only get sealed siblings or dream no more.
If you dream nail him in the hidden room, he says he only wanted the power to protect others.
I'm at about 31 hours, about to take a second shot at the Watcher Knights
I just got to the White Palace
why is EVERYTHING buzzsaws?
Say that again you mother fucker.
Because of sawcon
why is EVERYTHING buzzsaws?
I like to believe that it is the mind of the king shaping the dream to stop you.
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
God of War
Spider-Man
so what exactly did the pale king block off? just his palace and the abyss and all that? or the entire kingdom up to dirtmouth?
Or it takes them a long time to get through them?
The only thing I learned from this thread is that at most only a third of people who purchase a game actually finish it.
Utter insanity.
I got it on Steam & finished it on Switch.
I'm replaying it on PC atm though.
How many players have that? Check the purchase count on steamspy.
What do you guys think would the death animation for silksong would be like? Can we finally confirm the Hornet is in fact void?
Steamspy estimates 1-2M. So probably around 10k people have it. If you discount the 30% of players who don't finish the first area, having the achievement puts in around the top 1% of players.
>people who but games they pirated to support the devs but never actually install because they prefer the pirated version.
People who don't install and play a game are not counted in steam's achievement statistics
I dropped this game as soon as I found out that attacking an enemy while jumping actually stops you and pushes you backwards
hot garbage
Why does this break the game for you?
Also, there's an item you get that stops that.
the fact that he showed compassion to the hollow knight thus ruining it as a perfect vessel.
This game is near perfect, the only thing I wished this game had was that you could buy masks from the mask maker so you can customize the head of the ghost to whatever you want, it would also help as a money sink.
Bloodborne is also praised here, it's one of the most well received and sold PS4 title and yet only 14,7% percent have beaten it.
got to normal radiance with a notebook that ran the game at 10 fps on city of tears, you should be fine
>beat Nightmare Grimm yesterday
>finished the first two pantheons today
>109%
I'm getting there
you can always lower the resolution on regedit for more fps gains
You guys said the path of pain was hard.
I got to one bit that started to be an actual challenge and then it ended.
come one, don't be that kind of user
Why didnt you return it?
Most people don't finish the games they play
have it on switch and ps4
I was just disappointed at the length, what I thought was the halfway point was the last part.
I wanted at least 2 more rooms.
Or it takes them a long time to do so. Took me 2 years to finish Dark Souls.
not the same as actually having to do stuff also most movies are like an hour and half and u dont do anything but stare at a screen and u can dose off or whatever
while games take alot alot longer to beat and u have to do stuff and pay attnetion
I played it for shy of two hours before refunding; it's okay, not shit, but not great, just another side scrolling indie with an unappealing cutsie art-style.
What point are you trying to make? Do you realize just how many people buy shit but never finish them?
oh nononono delet this
Game is shit. Honestly one of the most boring of it's kind that I've played. Doesn't help that I had just finished Rabi Ribi a few weeks earlier and this game is absolute dogshit by comparison. Enemy design is abysmal, levels are wide open and full of absolute sweet fuck all. Story is cliche tripe that fails to engage, and spread too thin to be interesting even where there is some promise to it.
It's a god damn chore to play.
Or it takes them a long time to do so. Took me 2 years to finish Dark Souls.
Now this makes me wonder. What game has the biggest percentage of its playerbase reach at the very least the first/normal ending?
Going through shit that I played I'm actually a bit astounded at how low some of the percenteges are even for short games.
>23% of the players that beat the first boss got "The Hollow Knight" ending
>27.7% that beat hornet got "The Hollow Knight" ending
>40% that beat the Soul Master got "The Hollow Knight" ending
Also, I don't think that cheevo is a good representation of how many people have actually finished the game (with any ending), since 15.8% of all players got the void heart, which is what you need to fight the radiance.
Why is the Cuphead number so low? It isn't even that hard. And fuck it ain't even that long.
>majority of people don't finish shitty overhyped indie garbage
>but do RE2
based.
i mean, re2 just holds your hand until you reach the ending. not that surprising
How do you spot an Hollow Knight fan? It's the only game they ever fucking talk about.
Dropped it after a few boss because the graphic bored me and the bug theme wasn't enjoyable.
>people who but games they pirated to support the devs but never actually install because they prefer the pirated version.
everyone who does this should get lynched immediately
>steamcommunity.com
>even radiant difficulty only has 3.1% of players finishing it
This makes me giggle way too hard.
15% is actually pretty good.
I'm tempted to try Hollow Knights thanks to the endless shilling here on Yea Forums these past few weeks. Is a mechanical keyboard enough to play it or do I need a gamepad for success?
>Why don't people waste days of their lives figuring out my obnoxious RNG trial and error grindfest???
Seriously out of all games in this thread, this is easily the most valid game not to complete.
im stuck on the radiance. what charms are recommended ?
Don't bother, the shills are misleading you. It's an incredibly dull game and one of the worst in the genre. Better to play an actually good game like Rabi Ribi or Dustforce.
Red Dead has also sold 15+ million copies, though
I think the game looks preddy but I don't really like metroidvanias or platformer games so I've never bought it. It really does looks pretty though. Like, I wish RPGs had cool aesthetic like Holly Knight instead of having such a push in the western industry to be nothing but manfaced trannies these days.
backlogs like mine and many others are part of the problem
>steamcommunity.com
Okay. Now this is just silly. Only half of players finished Portal?
Because he knows he'll come back to it eventually.
>Rabi Ribi
i wouldnt be caught dead playing that shit lmfao.
>come into hk thread
>wtfff why you talking about hk
>shills
>a made game by 2 people (3 now)
William, if you're here, make Silksong as hard as possible.
PC fats don't finish games, they just accumulate them into their steam library so they can then argue they don't want to use another store since they wasted their entire's life allowance there.
If you think that's dumb a literal walking simulator has only 14% of people get the normal ending.
steamcommunity.com
guys what do I do?
I defeated that lady hornet or whatever got the dash and explored pretty much everything there is except the dark areas which I dont have the lantern for
also I got a hollownest seal and cant find a use for it I guess I have to use it later?
wat do?
I’ve defeated Nightmare King Grimm but never The Radiance. I’ve completed enough to actually challenge The Radiance but then the DLCs came out and I got sidetracked doing that content and never went back to do the final boss, and then I got bored and stopped playing.
Get the goddamn lantern, obviously.
no dinero
also I found some new area fungus shit or smth like that
Go down
Dash unto the Lake of Unn
The start of Hollow Knight is really fucking boring. You have no abilities so all you can do is jump and basic attack, and the first area really isn't all that exciting or inviting, aesthetically speaking and Gameplaywise. False Knight is a fucking boring fight.
The game picks up yeah, and it has some really good bosses, but it takes a while to do so while leaving a dogshit first impression.
>dogshit first impression
this user doesn't know what good atmosphere and story means and is here only to fight bosses
>Atmosphere
Oh wow, dark and dreary town and cave! The atmosphere doesn't pick up until a few hours in.
>Story
You're told fuck all in regards to story. Just a couple of lines from a statue and then more from the old guy and you're off to explore with your basic bitch moveset.
Even if they were better
Maybe stop being such a cuck and play the game like any normal non ADHD non zoomer type human bean and this would never be and issue?
If you got the dash you can go back to a new area in the forgotten crossroads and there is a new shop
For a metroidvania the exploration is trash and sleep inducing. The only good part of the game is the boss fights.
Stop making boring metroidvania's and roguelikes indiefags. Make a megaman or castlevania game with tight level design and excellent bosses.
>t. poorfag console user who doesn't understand having disposable income
>user needs to be told everything and doesn't enjoy guessing what happened to world he's in
I'm saying he said the story was a strong initial draw, I'm saying it's not. It's a mystery sure, but without the world being fun to investigate then I can't give a shit. The world doesn't get interesting until after the first area.
It's kind of weird how all the backer bosses are sort of projectile bullet hells considering almost all other bosses in the game fight with physical attacks
