SOLDIER uniform is so goddamn weird to me. It looks nothing like a military uniform. Sleeveless turtlenecks, only armor are shoulderpads, no real badge or insignia indicating the organization you belong to or rank.
And then Cloud goes and adds his own personal touches to it. First he takes off one of the shoulder pauldrons, drills some bolts in the remaining one and also wears some bizarre makeshift arm guard, but naturally only for one arm.

No, that user is right, the tsurugi is fun and cool. AC outfit is a little over the top. I would say the simplified KH2 version is better also.

I like how the entire reason the Fusion Sword exists is because they wanted to make the fight scenes more dynamic. I guess Nomura thought it would be boring if Cloud wasn't constantly fiddling with his sword in the middle of battle or something.

It’s silly, but that’s okay for me when it’s played straight. Separating one big sword into various sized swords mid-fight is over the top, but everything about AC was over the top. I had a lot of fun with it and still rewatch the fight scenes now and then.

there's also a huge SOLDIER insignia on their belts and they're easy to tell apart by the colours of their uniform
The top of the top 1st class SOLDIERs shed most of the armour because they simply don't need it (they probably keep what little's there for the AESTHETIC)
