Overdrive Protocols are the items you use to transfer blades from one driver to another. They're very, very rare - you only get a 3 - 4 from chests in the story and a few from completing Driver affinity charts. The DLC gives you like 10 of the fuckers, but that's basically cheating. (You can also grind them by releasing 4 star blades with completed affinty charts or trading bonus exp in NG+, but that's endgame stuff.)

Tonight I finally finished Joe Anderson's 160-hour streams of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. What a really, really bad game. Why do people unironically like this shit?

XBC2's localization really went too far in a few places

At least the fixed the trust shit with the DLC. But the rest is absolute bullshit. This shit needed a glossary bad, but it felt like they thought all glossaries had to have a description and information about the monster, and they didn't want to bother with it.

The majority of people aren't going to bother playing the game past the last boss. For the people who actually want to do postgame content and max affinity charts it's made about as frustrating as it could possibly be. It's as if the game is purposely designed to welcome newbies while frustrating more hardcore players.

I'd highly recommend you get started on the sidequests sooner than later, though. They're not optional.

Overdrives are items that let you transfer blades to other party members. They're one use only, and very limited, but I guess that user didn't realize that and used all of his by accident.

I was using overwrite option not realising they were finite items, (way before I should have even been messing with them) so it's entirely my fault.

In order to get blades on drivers you have to select a driver to roll a crystal
When you roll a crystal you have a chance of getting a common blade (fodder) or a rare blade (the ones you see in that tier chart)
Which rare blade you get is entirely random and is locked onto whatever character you rolled the crystal on (the exception being Rex who can use any blade past a certain chapter)
You can use Overdrive Protocols to transfer rare blades to other drivers if you wanted that blade on someone else
They're pretty rare to get, but the devs handed a bunch out in DLC packs and shit
That guy wasted them all transferring blades between drivers willy nilly without realizing their importance
Now he has to restart the game in order to get back what he lost because the game fails to convey the importance if Overdrive Protocols
This game actively wants to frustrate the player and waste their time as much as possible, the Overdrive Protocol system being just one example among many

Don't do it. The 5 you get via story is enough for NG.

Overdrives are entirely optional. There are enough quest Blades to build a good party, you can play the entire story with commons. This is just autistic roleplaying about design decisions you don't like.

Nobody put a gun on his head and told him to use those items.
You can't fuck yourself over completely either - there are WAY more rare blades than user had protocols, so at worst he distributed 5 Blades to a suboptimal driver.

And later on you can get 5 more Overdrive Protocols by completing the affinity charts, or farm Protocols by releasing 4 stars fodder blades.

It's a non issue and user is just throwing a tantrum

You must have got decent rolls then. Imagine if you'd rolled KOS-MOS on Nia. Entirely plausible with the game's random system and not something that's ideal.

There’s a limit. You can increase the max by leveling your mercenary level

Putting all of the healers at the bottom doesn't sit right with me. They're crucially important during the story, but are completely invalidated by critical healing at endgame? A strong healer like Boreas isn't worth it at all?

In what sense? You'll always generate new blades through cores if that's what you mean, but you're set to a limited amount per driver.

You'll hit that limit fast.
But that's a good thing really - an infinite blade capacity would be torture when you're assigning them to do missions.

Plus, it will teach you that releasing blades has its perks and gives you a reason to complete their affinity charts (cool shit including Overdrive Protocols for some).

As someone said, this is more for NG+ / challenges. Not general gameplay.

Isn't it just what blade element you're more likely to pull?

Unlocking nodes on affinity charts may add point to one of the 4 ideas for the driver who was bonded with the blade when the node unlocked.
You can tell what points a node will add on the affinity chart screen.
Anyway, idea levels do two things
1: they increase the odds to pull blades of the associated element. you only get the bonus for whichever idea level is highest, and the level of that idea affects the strength of the bonus, maxing at level 15 (you have to use boosters to get that high though)
2: increases damage in combat for the elements associated with the idea by 5% (additive) per idea level

You can do that with many blades. In the endgame damage output is what counts and if you're just artspamming fiora is objectively better than mythra because she shits out more damage and has a 3 hit crit refresh art and can get near 100% crit rate anyways. Mythra's advantage over the other S ranks comes in the form of being able to make any orb off of any combo in Pneuma form. I'd also argue that Pandy is S tier in NG+ since her ascended form is the most powerful single target artspam in the game. When it comes to a true do everything blade Poppi can't be beat since she has a full driver combo between her forms and can be set up to do any element you need.

It's the end of Kora's sidequest.
If you time it just right, there's almost no lag between the jumps.
But I still miss being able to jump everywhere like a fucking idiot and move at the same speed.

I think that kind of node is one of the ones that can be completed by doing merc missions, though. If you got Ursula's lessons, pick whichever one you can run through fastest and stick T-Elos in there.

That one in particular has to be completed manually.

I think it's got more to do with the fact that cut-scenes are longer and often worse with voice acting.

Kill the Ankylosaurus Cow monster you raised to level 99 in Torigoth.

Driver comboing the cow named in gormott, gotta feed the baby arduan until its max size, then get a driver combo setup (rex with mythra/roc/a spear, tora with all 3 forms and zeke with a cannon/pandy/spear is a good party setup), give them all overclocking bangles (drop from bunnits in tantal) and beta scopes (drop from the big bird on the skyport at world tree).

For best results gold chip all of your blades and put all of the treasure sensors into the poppis. Vampire Bride is the best place to farm gold chips. Get a 999 luck character to pop all cores, the brionac guys in mor ardain drop the % based plus luck item, then get some luck commons, 3 luck commons and that item will usually get you to 999, might just open your first batch without 999 luck to build up commons.
