This game is actually fun. Why did it catch so much shit?

Also 13-2 runs like shit. Any advice?
Because it was the cork on the wine bottle full of shit called Final fantasy XIII
No advice, it's a shitty port. Even with top of the line hardware it won't run well on PC.
>he hasn't played FFXV
Why did FFX get a pass? It was a straight line.
people already didnt like the XIII games
plus the story is retarded as usual and the game has low production values when compared to the other 2
I still enjoy the trilogy for what it is, and LR might be my favorite of the 3, i like putting lightning in akward situations and the combat is fun
FFXV ain't a wine bottle of shit though.
It's a Sauce of shit. Less to invest in. Also it didn't encompass all that final fantasy for 10 years.
Not only is FFXIII bad because the games were terrible. FFXIII also made shit outside it's game terrible.
After 15, 13 looks excellent. 13 had a story and good charecter designs. 15 is almost the antithesis of 13. All side content and no real main path till the end. 13 was a railroad with side content at the end and not very much of it.
I dont get it either
X was LITERALLY XIII but with worse graphics, worse characters and hard turn based combat
Gameplay wasn't bad and had a hot chick.
FFXIII has a plank of wood and and a hold down A to win gameplay mechanic.
Towns and people you could interact and talk to along the way.
13 had a lot more going on. Did the atb gauge labeling attack as auto attack cause that many problems?
There were things to do besides combat. In XIII, all you do is fight enemies.
Towns are basically small villages with 6-7 tents instead of normal houses. Also, no toilet, anywhere.
NPCs don't have interesting things to say, no sidequests or hints to give you. The only role they have is to give you Potions and P. Downs becuase it will help you a lot on your journey to bring the Calm.
Basically, towns and NPCs in X were useless. XIII removed them. And still, it's bigger game than X.
>Also, no toilet, anywhere.
And XIII fixed that by making the whole game a giant shit bowl.
they create the illusion of the game actually taking place in a larger world instead of a pretty hallway
Very funny, user. At least try to write some legit criticism on XIII, and not just pure hate because ''internet told you it's bad''.
>At least try to write some legit criticism on XIII
What? Like no toilets? Ok. XIII doesn't have enough toilets. Shit game confirmed.
>fun
And there are none in X. Which means that game is full of shit.
It was the end game in a series much too complicated for plebs to appreciate.
Is it? I kind of want to play it. I'm assuming I have to go through XIII-2? Already played the first one but I'm not in the mood for another RPG right now.
>naughty dogs
>we don’t like to use the word fun when describing game’s
>Yea Forums
>wow these guys are so out of touch with the fans
>some random poster
>this game is fun
>also Yea Forums
>you can’t use fun to justify playing a game because it’s just a buzzword
How many times is this board going to have to be btfo?
Okay Akira.
I never played 1 or 2 and played it. Got stuck on this dude named caius, like he will fuck you up for real. Uh either way, you dont need to pay attention i dont think, the stoey is real ass apparently. I watched the scenes and didnt know much about what was going on. Just how surprisingly good looking a ps3 game looks. Combay is so fucking good and requires some thinking. I enjoyed the dresses, the classes of the game, but not how qeapobs are aquired. Bosses, at times, ut mainly through shops and it never quiet feels like you are strong enough. Maybe i just didnt play the game right.
Interesting. Thanks for the reply, I'll give it a shot.
Do i need to play FFXIII and 2 to play lightning returns? i hate playing as everyone else but lightning.
FFX was the first FF for the new generation at the time and had sidequests and mini games like Blitzball.
It was kind of new territory for the franchise.
FF13 came out 8 years later and the landscape and culture had changed. So expectations were at a different place. Plus 13 had a troubled development and then you had things like the developers complaining about how hard it is to make a town with HD graphics.
I mean you could look up a synopsis. I think 13 trilogy is story is okay as a whole. Maybe that's because 15 was so bad but I think it's worth the time. ALSO WHAT THE FUCK DID HIRO DO THAT MY REPLY WINDOW KEEPS CLOSING EVERY 40 SECONDS?
It was a thicker thin line with better implemented distraction and secrets (Blitzball, Energy Blast, Summon POGEYMAN BATTLE, Alternate path if you "lose" to the Chocobo Eater and so), even if Pulse was bigger then supposed equivelant Calm Lands there was still the whole segment with the Airship and scanning for secret areas and revisiting old ones (and getting Cockblocked by Dark Aeons if on PAL/INT).
X was plebeian tier entry. Anyone could get into it and the themes were simple and easy to understand. There was do depth to it. 13 is complex game so it’s less appreciated.
Lightning was old and busted
We have the new hotness now
youtube.com
You could do things other than combat in ff10, story made more sense than 13 where it just had random shit happen around you and didn't explain shit
>13 complex
I 100%'d that game an the only remotely difficult thing was keeping enough attention to grind CP with growth egg. Certain missions are difficult, but once you get that egg, the game beats itself. I beat attacus at like 10k health for my party.
Could've had more things to do. Once you know what you're doing you run out of things to do (and kill) by like, day 7.
XIII-2 had a giant monster library mainly for the monster collecting part of it, but LR has like 30 monsters and you can only kill them so many times until they literally go extinct.
Because it's based on a shitty game AND Tri-Ace has lost all ability to write a story. Have you not seen how they ran their best series into the ground with awful writing?
Here's your synopsis:
XIII: You're tasked with the mission to kill Orphan (a thing) to make Cocoon fall and kill everyone in it to bring forth the creator
XIII-2: You play as Serah and time travel to stop a bad future from happening but you fuck up anyways
LR: It's been 500 years, nobody ages and the world is 12 days away from ending
Imagine playing a very where you can dodge 99% of the fights and still be fine
The story was presented in a coherent way for the most part and the combat was pretty standard. XIII's combat revolving around that shitty stagger system was tedious as fuck. And I hate X anyway but XIII was so much worse.
Top tier waifu
Get it for the PS3.
Look, i got XIII for 360,PS3 and Steam and like it since it is comfy brainless game, but complex? It is so fucking not, know Paradigm Cancelling? Congrats you now outpace the enemy to a ridiculous degree, especially with Haste and Offensive buffs (That you don't even need SYN to use due Shrouds).
LR had more engaging Stagger system though, i recall realizing how the Jump command basically will always hit the head and instantly break Dragon type enemies and therefore slaughter them, it was a nice touch, not complex but i liked it.
Because Raitoningu-Sama didn't catch a bullet to the brain
FFX went back to regular turn based combat and had minigames and secret bosses not hidden behind a giant sidequest.
Can we talk about X-3
What is there to say? The novel setting it up was a shitty elevated Fanfic that in its attempt to "damage control" X-2 ended up being even dumber, and THAT is a accomplishment.
FF13 and 13-2 sucked, so naturally people assumed that 13-3 must be terrible as well.
People generally don't care about those sequels when the main line games are bad. I think LR is one of the better FF but it still has so many problems.
>3/4 maps are boring and tedious. The only good map is Yusnaan. Luxerion is a grey and depressed tiny town. Dead Dunes is mostly just sand and skeletons, you don't have a chocobo so it's more like a running simulator. Wild Lands has a few good spot like the forest and Moogle village but the majority of that map is still empty as fuck.
>NG+ is half ass. They only let you upgrade weapons and shields in NG+ but it's so simple and easy to do that I think they ran out of development time and have to release the game 6 months early.
>They destroyed Sazh's character, turned him into a loser who spent 500 years fail to do something which Lightning took only a few days to do.
>Vanille also only appeared for a few scenes after getting teased for so long, wasted potential.
>Combat doesn't work well when they are many enemies. It relies on timing attack, block, evade, knock back, stagger which work well with 1 enemy. In late game fights with multiple strong enemies, everything becomes chaotic and hard to follow.
>Your stats depend on doing fetch quests. What the fuck?
I’m talking overall.
Talking overall theme and story here.
What about Fang?
The trilogy as whole has a bunch of inherent problems that create a love/hate relationship. FF13-1's story is so stupid and convoluted, mostly due to the fact important elements are hidden away in menus and aren't stated at all. Then pretty much 30 hours of pressing 1 button, hallways, and "like pets!" tier dialogue. The game only gets good towards late game when the combat gets really good and actually strategic instead of Relentless Assault 24/7.
FF13-2 the story gets even more retarded because time travel. I was never a fan of the monster collecting and Serah/Noel were so boring.
FF13-3 is pretty much Lightning FanFic: the video game. Story dumb etc. etc. The combat however is loads of fun and desu theres a lot of funny dialogue throughout and plenty of callbacks. A very pretty game as well besides stuff like the Dog (pic related). In fact all the games are very pretty and have a great OST, all things considered.
Fang accompanied Lightning through a whole map and helped her a lot. Her purpose was well and clear so she got the better treatment by the devs.
Oh, not like it is much more complex when you cut away the fluff though.
>Creator god leaves world
>Robot Minions of said god want him back and figure they can do so by killing tons of humans at once and start a flying Human Farm.
>Said robots have a habit of cursing humans to do their bidding because they themselves can't due being robots and can't go against their programming.
>Robot opposing the Human Farm curse some humans living in it to destroy it.
>Humans proceed to cry and bawl about being cursed and pariahs for 14-70 hours depending on how slow/fast you play.
>after many hjinx and shenanigans Humans stop bawling and decide to kill the Robot battery powering the farm so they will stop using humans.
>Turns out that was what the Robots wanted all along since killing the battery means the farm will fall from the sky.
>During the final confrontation a Death Goddess gives the Humans a miracle to dispel their curse so they can keep fighting and they kill the battery making the Human Farm fall down.
>But two humans activate their super mode to catch it and then turn into crystal so humans don't die, YAY!
I think what trips people up is just the use of "nonsense" terms like L'cie and Fal'cie more then anything, i didn't mind it myself though.
Because it's trash, garbage characters, garbage story, looks worse than ps2 games and runs at 10 fps
XV is actually a great game unlike 13 trash and its shitty sequels
You can't be this fucking retarded
lightning returns is one of my favorite jrpg's just for it's combat. no other rpg can compete.
go back to bed, Barry
I consider XIII and XV the same kind of fruit from the same tree, both overstayed/are overstaying their welcome and had good looking conceptual bullshot trailers building up anticipation and then blowing it.
I have. It was a perfectly sound idea, executed poorly. FF XIII was structurally bad. FF XV wasn't very good, but it was sure as hell better than XIII.
Now now, you should let Lightning blow, cause with that ass she ain't getting any action unless her mouth game is on point.
Can they please put actual gameplay in this time around?
Yes, play a better game.
Final Fantasy xiii never created a world worth saving. You're introduced to it as a crap sack magic cyberpunk world, and everyone wants you dead from the beginning for being l'cie. I enjoyed the combat, but the characters were so odd or over-flanderized to the point where it's hard to like them. Sazh and to a lesser extent snow were bros though. I bought a used copy of each from my local owned game exchange, I played halfway into 2 before giving up on the series.
Spira was a world worth saving, with interesting locales and diverse peoples. I enjoyed discovering the world and the magic of it. Instead of being enemies of everyone, all the characters had a strong connection to a part of the world(except maybe lulu, but them tittays though!) Fun side-quest which further connects you the world because "who knew that that random gwado running around happens to be an amazing striker in blitz ball?" Hidden aeons and weapon upgrades were great and gave you a reason to go back to places.
Spira felt like a place worth saving, like a world. Ft xiii's world, which I can't even remember the name of, feels like a hallway.
The problem is that there‘s no exposition except for in the fucking Datalogs. So if you don‘t bother with those the game is utterly impenetrable.
All of this could‘ve been fixed if they just had a layman protagonist. Although thinking about it, it‘s not even neccessary. Have cocoon explained to Vanille and Fang and have Pulse explained by them to the rest of the party.
Whatever.
Oh and there‘s that whole thing where doing nothing stops the apocalypse, but then they do something anyway because they‘re fucking retarded, but it‘s ok because Deus Ex Machina and Lesbians into Volcano
13-2 and LR both run very well on my PC.
I really like this games font. And all of the UI aesthetics for that matter.
Yes. The events of Lightning Returns occur because of what happens in XIII-2. You can probably skip XIII since it doesn’t tie in too much story-wise to XIII-2 but you’ll miss out on the character growth and stories. So you’ll probably care less about Sahz and Dajh in LR, and you won’t understand the relationship Lightning has with Hope
>that one side quest where Lightning agrees to go on a date with a guy in Yusnaan for the free steak
Truly best girl
You will not understand why Lightning has to do save the world and why she has to fight some other characters because you don't know the relationship between them. The gameplay and roleplay aspect aren't good enough If you ignore the story part.
any anons have any success with controller support for LR?
Works perfect with a DS4. I'm playing it right now. Just make sure to change the prompts from PC to controller in settings.
Sequels are often evaluated according to the quality of the previous entries in mind, if it was a new IP it would have been a beloved game, but the fact it’s the final chapter of Lightning’s story was too much to some people.
Really? I've tried pretty hard trying to make it work on xbox one controllers but no dice
I really, really don't like the time system, but maybe that's just me because i immediately don't like it when throughout the game you are restricted by time
it might be a problem with your computer or the controller, it worked fine with an Xbone controller when I played it.
She didnt deserve three fucking games
Technically 2 wasn’t about her
Lightning my waifu
Wrong, she's MY waifu
Nice.
