Not insanely long ago, I can't remember the last western game with anything good (model wise) but there are always japanese devs releasing something. That whole announcement they made about making smaller budget games has peaked my interest. Maybe some talent will slip through the cracks and deliver the goods in an under marketed and exposed game. This is exactly what's going on in the PC gaming world. Everything good is indie or from some little studio you've never heard of. Problem with consoles is that they're expensive to develop for and require special hardware so it's not practical for a lot of devs, and a lot of good indies are very mod-centric so that makes them impractical for console too.

Controllers are insanely expensive now. What did N64/PS1 controllers cost back then? Surely not $70?

I've tried it and it just doesn't do much for me. This. I haven't used mine to play an actual game in like three years, it's just a streaming box and blu-ray player. To be fair it's really more of a gaming industry problem than anything with the PS4 itself though, I just don't use mine because everything I'm interested in playing is also on PC and I'd rather play with a mouse and keyboard and my 144hz monitor.
