Been getting a lot of tanks lately that just... stand still a lot? They'll deal with a pack, then stand there for like a minute after the pack is dead, and then continue ahead. Sometimes they'll reach the next pack and then stand still some more and then finally pull.This has been happening in both early dungeons like Copperbell and later dungeons like Gubal and Doma Castle.

Also been getting tanks that only use their combo abilities for aggro. No flash, shield lob, tomahawk, or anything.

It depends on your party composition. Also you want to throw as many royal roaded cards as possible so even if you draw a spear or an arrow you're gonna want to RR it if you have a balance or spear or arrow in spread. Keep an eye on your DPS' TP too. Most melee classes for example deplete their TP pretty fast when they AOE so a spire can be very beneficial to them
Also expanded (ewer/spire) royal road isnt always the best in 4man content, and using an ewer on yourself can help you with spamming AOEs and heals, so you shouldn't automatically royal road it either.
So at the end of the day what cards to use depends entirely on your situation and group composition. That's what makes AST fun.
Do keep in mind that you'll get much more freedom with your draws at lvl 70 though

It depends on the fight. O10S first phase is a great place for parsing because it's easy to keep uptime, you'll get the party buffs you need to actually parse properly and there are some mechanics to pay attention to. Just join a random learning party in PF and see what you can pull. Most groups I'd imagine have the Bard pulling 6k-6.5k first phase at that ilvl.

Anxiety will go away as you build up confidence in yourself and in your knowledge of your toolkit. Do runs of older content / stuff you've already completed until it's mostly muscle memory. That being said, it's okay to feel nervous going into content you haven't done before. Just don't let the nervousness become a huge wall - try to push through it sooner than than later.

There are 3 achievements all with the name "Somebody's gotta do it [PLD/WAR/DRK]" which gives you a mount for doing like 200 high level duties as a tank. They later added "Tank you, [PLD/WAR/DRK] III" Achievement which is for like 300 instances and gets you an armored version of the mount.

WAR gets a bear, DRK gets a black Couerl and PLD gets an extremely buff Lion.

What if the different roles all got their own separate limit break bars? So in an 8 man the two tanks would share a bar, 2 healers would share a bar, 4 dps would share a bar. They would definitely need to rebalance them to account for potentially x3 as many limit breaks in a fight, but better that than almost never seeing them used at all.

It's a personal dps loss for the person using it because you miss out on like 4 gcd's but it does way more damage than anything you could have done in that time so it increases the party dps

at level 30 the highest dungeon you have access to is haukke manor. Sure, if the tank knows what they're doing they can do some big pulls to make rockbreaker worth using, but at such a low level you're almost always better off just doing the normal combo against the most threatening enemy. Plus once you get used to Perfect Balance + Rockbreaker + True North it just feels trash to use otherwise.

I mean, it really doesn't seem like as big of a problem as Yea Forums makes it out to be, which is par for the course here. You guys take one or two examples from something and say it's indicative of everything. With Fire 3 and Blizzard 3, you should only need to use Transpose if it's an emergency and/or the boss has left the field. Otherwise just swap between phases with those spells.

Transpose should be used between pulls to keep your ice/fire up. It's not really important until you get Enochian later, but basically, you never use Transpose to switch between Fire/Ice states in combat now, only Fire 3 and Blizzard 3

You can play up to level 35 for free. It's best if you just form your own opinion. Find a server that seems interesting, try the game and go from there.

Fair warning the quest experience hasn't changed in ARR at all so there's a fair bit of back and forth between locations.

Late reply, was in a dungeon. But here they are currently, top is PLD and bottom is BRD. I know I should probably create macros for the PLD, but I'm still relatively new so I haven't had the need for specialized macros. Just beat the base story for Stormblood a couple days ago.

Varies a lot between worlds. On my world, selling HQ cordials is not a bad gil/day net, but there are waaay better things to sell, like infusions.

Check the ARR relic weapons. The base level items like the Vamper Knives, and the two grimoires for SCH and SMN, and the other Relic Reborn items sell for a pretty penny.

you should generally avoid using macros in this game, they're finicky if you use more than like two commands and don't get queued up like regular skills
there are exceptions like mouseover for things that are a pain to target, but those are few and far between

Nobody plays tanks BECAUSE they're braindead. Making tanks not fucking boring would probably save the role as a whole, but instead you get shit like nonstop DA spam and WAR, which is literally just mashing buttons until you can spam fell cleave.

Almost everyone who played DRK universally agrees that it was much more fun before.

HW DRK was better than it currently is, but it wasn't perfect. Blood Price and parry proc skills meant that if for whatever reason you were in a situation where you couldn't be MT, you were losing upwards of 5% of your DPS.

The constant MP drain also made it awkward when there was extended fight downtime where you had no way to regen MP properly. You could turn off Darkside, but your MP regen is so poor in combat and because reactivating Darkside also costs MP, you couldn't realistically get any MP back. It also made it a pain in dungeons because even with out-of-combat MP regen, it only barely outpaced the drain, so you were getting hardly any MP restoration between pulls.

There were also cases where the skills didn't synergize well. DA Dark Dance increased your evasion, but DRKs generally wanted to take hits to get parry and blood price procs. Sole Survivor was also (and still is) generally kind of a crappy ability. Shadowskin was just a 1:1 copy of Rampart, and Shadow Wall was worse than both Vengeance AND Sentinel (now it's only worse than Vengeance). Dark Mind was (and still is) too binary in that it's either borderline OP or useless depending on the boss.

Delirium and Reprisal, while making the job more fun to play, gave it an absurd amount of party mitigation that made the job imbalanced versus the other tanks. And frankly, even with a reduced amount of Dark Arts usage, the job still had far too many oGCDs to weave into its normal rotation between reprisal, carve&spit, salted earth, dark passenger, low blow procs, and any other use of dark arts you needed.

There are 0 tanks in this game. Everyone will suck your dick eternally if you go tank. But they will castrate you for pointing the boss at them.

A macro for Cover, Intervention and Shirk is generally a good idea

Shirk/Intervention so with the one button press you automatically Shirk/Intervention the other tank without deselecting your target (such as the boss). Cover so that if you have an ally targeted and use it it functions as normal, otherwise if you have no ally selected and you use it it will automatically cast it on the closest ally to you.

As someone who plays and enjoys RDM even I understand it, the class is so well designed that it means it's very easy to understand when and what you should be doing at all times, and all their attacks/phases segue into each other. On top of all that it has mobility and has a heal for 'oh no i fucked up real bad' and a revive for 'oh no they fucked up real bad'. It's just a very smooth and comfortable class to play but there's very little to master with the class, so people who aren't really interested in playing DPS (me) gravitate towards it because it requires little investment to play at a competent level.

Lack of challenge i'd say. When you're in a dungeon it doesn't matter, nothing matters.
I'll never get out of shield oath because that way i get to make less effort and the healer gets to make less effort then we do the dungeon dance until the last chest.
Damage doesn't matter, rotation doesn't, efficiency, speed let's just take it easy it's not like it's exciting to run this dungeon yet again and anyway i don't know these people i'll never see them again.

free company = guild in this game. it has guild banks, guild housing (if they bought a house), group crafting (if they have a house) airships, and many fc's do content together, such as high end dungeons, bosses, treasure maps, etc. there are social fc, raiding fc, rp fc, etc. just like wow.

The markets are alive in the game if thats what your section question means. You could do most of the game as a crafter, but new areas are locked behind main story, so you HAVE to do that if you want to get to the high end of crafting. And yeah, you can max out every job if you have the time and effort.

Every job that's lower level than your highest leveled job gets an exp bonus based on the level of your main job (sub 50 gives 50% more, 50-59 gives 100% more, 60-69 gives 150%, 70 gives 200%), so it's easy to max out all jobs, especially with Palace of the Dead and squadron dungeons. Crafters work the same way but you have to either spend money to level them up via crafting leves, or do daily Ixal/Moogle/Namazu quests, or do custom delivieries (60+) to level them up. Also there's no reason to level more than 1 crafter unless you plan to max all of them out.

Oh and I forgot to mention, gatherers can be leveled for free but you'd have to buy gear for them (not hard since vendors sell "good enough" gear) or do leves (still require gear, but only gear with gathering stats, perception doesn't affect leves so you can ignore all the gear slots that don't give +gathering), but leves are limited to 2 per day (which stacks up to 100 allowances stocked).

Field Companies (FCs for short) are basically guilds. Being in one is kind of nice as they can give buffs.

Buying and selling is a mixed bag as markets change a lot. Having all crafting and gathering jobs means you can craft just about anything and can be self-reliant for the most part.

It's very possible to have all jobs, including crafting, gathering, healing, DPS, and tank jobs. Pic related.

Pretty much, though FCs also offer 24-hour buffs, a house as base of operations, shared resources, and a workshop. It's better to have all crafting jobs leveled, but you can specialize in three. Combat jobs you only need one, but you can level them all as well.

ACT colors mean nothing, but if you upload your logs to some website (fflogs) it can show how good you do on duties (trials/raids, usually lategame)

Don't overflow your MP, don't use Dark Passenger unless there's more than 1 target or Contagion is up, try to avoid using TBN unless there's a buff window coming up or you need to to avoid overflowing MP, drop grit after 1 powerslash (or after DA Plunge if there's a NIN)

Secondly, when you are crafting the best of the best, it gets expensive. Crafting the best raid food takes effort, time, and gil. Crafting the best potions takes effort, time, and gil. Crafting the best gear takes time, effort, and gil.

I knew a guy who did this. Was absolutely burned out. I know you didn't ask for advice but I recommend you make it a small goal in mind to casually level the other DoH. Do a turn-in every so often, do the Namazu dailies maybe once a week or something. That XP adds up gradually.

This is true, however of the 100% of players parsing content a good chunk of them won't do particularly well because they apply no effort. So long as you have 390 gear, proper melds and you know your rotation/fight mechanics you'll regularly be better than 80% of the community.

If you had a little initiative you could have been making bank while also levelling up quickly via leves and collectables, but at this point you've kinda deprived yourself of the best part of the levelling process: figuring out your own rotations with the skills and gear you have available.

Don't ? me you fucking slut. Leves aren't expensive to complete. And especially not if you gather your own resources. Many leves can be done cheaply with market materials, and especially lower level ones. Double your efficiency by leveling gatherers too. You also get things done more quickly in this manner instead of waiting a month to level 1 class at a time.

That only really applies for parses on content with DF randoms. The sample of players who parse for stuff like Savage is already a few notches above the drooling orangutans you find in roulettes, even at the low end. It's a lot easier to get a purple parse in Alliance Raids than in Savage because the proportion of bad players in alliance raids is so much higher. If someone is in a parsed run for EX/Savage you can anticipate that there's at least a little bit of effort there.
