Imagine being the kind of person who'd make an image like this

If you're having fun, you're having fun.

>look how cool I am for not liking popular things
>am I cool now Yea Forums?

Jesus Christ I hate this shitty website.
Why were you even born?

I've always felt bad when people post this, because I agree with the guy in the picture. Saying something is "fun" kills discussion, which is the only time you'd need "reasons" as to why a game is good.

>You: I don't like game A
>Me: I do, why don't you like it?
>You: The mechanics are poorly executed, and I don't enjoy the artstyle
>Me: But it's really good!
>You: Why?
>Me: It's fun
>You:

Like what does that accomplish? Saying a game is fun is like saying a piece of music is good because it's good. It's a non-argument.

I agree with most of this but my god you retards are so wrong about Fortnite. It is literally one of the highest skill cap games out right now, and if you disagree you've never played the game for more than 5 minutes.

Do me a favor and kill yourself.

Is there even any gameplay footage of Death Stranding? How can it be classified as anything yet?

Let this be a lesson to you!

You're not having fun unless you can get smug self-satisfaction out of it.

Unless you're relentlessly stroking your own ego, there's no point to anything.

In the original Assassins Creed there flags placed everywhere you could collect, only there was no reward for doing so, thus people said it wasn't fun to run around collecting them Now comes Assassins Creed 2 and its feathers placed everywhere for you to collect, its done exactly the same way as you would collect flags but now there is a reward, suddenly its fun to people, that is in my view what artificial fun is and its a corner stone of open world games

mario odyssey was an overyhyped pile of shit

what about minecraft

>I like it so it's fun for me. You don't have to like it just because I do. It might not be for you.

>five nights at shitties
fuck off

The problem is that people confuse fun-factor with quality.

Fun and enjoyment happen completely independent of quality. One of the most fun times I've ever had playing a game was one time when a friend of mine and I rushed through the entirety of Resident Evil 5 in a single night. Does that make the game good? Fuck no. But I wouldn't trade that experience for the world.

The thing is, the only people who care about "Fun" are the people too pre-occupied with their own self-actuation to actually be having it. Anyone *actually* having fun doesn't give a single fuck. It's just a bunch of people in a ball-pit playing No-True-Scotsman

so which games don't fall into this categories then?

Why do you care so much about what people find fun?

This is a silly image. You can have genuine fun from an objectively bad game, and that doesn't make it any less valid. It's when you try and then take that PERSONAL enjoyment, and attempt to translate it into the game being good because YOU enjoyed it, and apply that to legitimate discussion, that things start getting screwy.

Some people also might not have well-developed tastes, and don't have 'good' games to compare them to (or don't even know what makes good games good), or spend much time carefully inspecting and picking apart the media they consume. I know only recently I started asking myself questions about or critiquing games to figure out if I like them or not, or if I think they're good or bad and why. But it's definitely something you have to step back and consider, and many people don't ever have that moment where they start to think like that. Thus, they can engage with media on a surface sort of level and enjoy it if it's 'fun', even if it's the kind of thing that falls apart on closer inspection.

It's still genuinely fun to them, though.

thank god /pol/ exists so i know where the faggots that hate video games come from

OUTDATED, Apex Legends should be on where Fornite is now

But Resident Evil 5 IS good for that very reason. It's no coincidence so many of us have fond memories of the game and that's simply because there aren't too many high budget game made primarily for couch co-op. Because RE5 is so obviously geared towards playing it with a friend you can't really compare it to RE4 or REmake or some other game that would score higher in the traditional gameplay/story/graphics/sound-boxes. It's like comparing a multiplayer game to a single player game, except the couch co-op format is so uncommon that we primarily judge it a normal single player game even though most of those who actually play through it with a good friend will have a way better time then such a review would indicate.

Now there are games that are fun without being good because they appealed to you specifically in some way. A game that's like that for me is Skyward Sword which I'm aware is not a perfect Zelda-game yet it appeals to me personally. RE5 is not the same because I think most people who play it the "right" way (meaning couch co-op) will actually enjoy it.
