lmao no
He was shit at best, but I can’t see the game working without him
I liked Addam a lot from the DLC, but I would have liked someone like him as a protagonist for the full game.
Rex IS shit, but he’s the kind of shit that made the story work.
A necessary evil.

Would you make me a sandwich?

>but I would have
Meant to say I wouldn’t have*
Fuck

yes

Yes

t. Definitely not Pyra

I liked his attitude

>Aaaaaayiah!
>just screeeams "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHE!"
Man, why is voice direction such a consistent stumbling point with video games?

He's a generic self-insert harem protag. The characters from XC2 are almost all poorly written anime tropes designed to make your pee pee hard rather than actually being interesting or having real development except maybe Nia.

He grew on me.

Give your Blades diabetes, user

Yeah

Because Japanese game writing is shit and combined with the fact that Japanese is a pro-drop language it almost always sounds unnatural when translated to English because there aren't enough mouth movements and phonetics to make a natural sounding English sentence.

Yeah he's got these very down-to-earth moments where he just seems like a level headed kid trying to live his life. Just a shame they had to cram all the stupid "power of friendship" crap into his head.

>The characters from XC2 are almost all poorly written anime tropes
t. Someone who hasn't played the game

>power of friendship
I blame the localization

they're pretty standard, user
the story does some fun things with them though, I liked it.

Yeah, that line was just a more general "If we rely on each other", bit. I mean, you can certainly translate it that way.

>they're pretty standard
Already back tracking

i'm not the guy you were responding to, just adding my 2 cents

That's exactly what they. Hence the literal fucking harem ending

>That's exactly what they.
Its ok ESL, reading and writing can be hard.

How can you say this when the self insert main character gets a literal harem of half naked bikini girls at the end?

>gets a literal harem
user, want to know how I know you haven't played the game?

>generic tsundere
>generic headpat mommy
>generic nya catgirl
Yeah real quality characters here.

>generic tsundere

Sounds like you haven't played it

You haven't seen the ending though, so I know you didn't play it

>n-no u
Pathetic

rex is about as generic as you can get. pretty bad character 4/10

who's jitchan

Gramps

He's not even a character. He's just a typical blank slate for the fatass player to self insert as.

doesn't work because he's happy

>generic
What other JRPG protags are like Rex?
Play the game.

I'm still right. Generic harem = not good characters

>hasn't played the game
>no actual arguments
>I-i'm still right
Sure thing buddy

>What other JRPG protags are like Rex?
Watch literally any seasonal anime

>i can't name any but he's generic
Jesus fucking christ

Oof is this that mentally insane XB2 fanboy people are talking about?

>Eric is so butthurt over Xenoblade 2 he now has to pretend there is someone as bad as him
Eww

The one man XC2 defense force.

What's his personality then?

Describe his character without mentioning what he looks like, what kind of costume he wore, or what his profession or role in the game was

He's not that bad honestly. On par with most of the character in the game.
People don't like him because he's not cool.

>Doesn't waver in his Pyra/Mythra waifufaggotry
>Returns God's faith in mankind
>Wants to buy Malos a drink so he kills him

He's great.

>calls people Eric
AYYYYYYY there it is. The XB2 fanboy

rex is ash ketchum

I liked him. I found his naivete and youthful vigor endearing. His initially didn't gel well with his design, but I feel his diving suit is meant to contrast with his Master Blade outfit, so it grew on me.

He should have been the protag

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 136K)

>I found his lack of personality endearing
???

>hes generic
>support your claim
>n-no
Ok, I'll accept your defeat
Rex is a frugal industrious young man seeking easy jobs to fulfill his sense of adventure, this really shines when Poppi confronts him upon having to know have to try without his emotional support in Pyra being removed

AAAAAAYYYYYHHHHHHHHH yah

>Rex a hard working man, very good eye on money and always gets the job done
>Ash is a lazy simpleton, has never worked a day in his life and never won a tournament
Yeah exactly the same.

Yeah, I love Rex Pilkington. He's mank fella who doesn't afraid of anything.

Attached: 1550721386154.jpg (1857x1393, 385K)

>seeking easy jobs to fulfill his sense of adventure, this really shines when Poppi confronts him upon having to know have to try without his emotional support in Pyra being removed
Whelp you failed the test. You mentioned roles that he played in the game. Also the character is never shown to be frugal. And on top of that
>industrious young man seeking easy jobs
Is an oxymoron. Why would someone industrious seek easy jobs?

He had a personality. And it was just that, he was naive and passionate, and he had a strong sense of justice and duty. It's typically shounen, but that isn't inherently bad (especially when the whole game was a play on anime convention).

ash is a hardworking pokemon trainer who has saved the world multiple times with the help of pikachu, entei, etc.

>generic good guy tween that is autistic around girls who all like him for some reason and never gives up
he's garbage.

>He had a personality.
He did not.
>he was naive
i.e. an undefined blank slate. Can't let him have an opinion lest some players disagree with it and can no longer project.
>passionate
No.
>he had a strong sense of justice and duty
That's not a personality.

How accurate is this?
I thought mommy bunny was highly coveted..

Attached: 1550961045062.png (2132x1152, 1.9M)

>No no you see it was a PARODY of anime tropes! So that makes it's completely generic nature okay! It was intentionally bland as fuck
Why do weebs keep saying this?

>ash is a hardworking pokemon trainer
We've watched different anime then

youtube.com/watch?v=JfLM0F0meDw

Not him but I'm sure you're the kind of people that think that Zeke would have amde a great protag and that Zeke has a great personality.
If that's the case you don't understand character writing, and personality in general.

All three Blade games are Parodies. The quicker you accept this fact the better off you'll be.

>Is an oxymoron
You really are ESL

You would say that since your thirsty virgin ass can't project onto Zeke, since he has an actual personality.

>generic good guy
You keep using the word generic
Name a JRPG character like Rex.

i suppose i lost interest around the time the title music changed to pokemon johto, maybe he changed

Just as expected.

mommy bunny is just rare
the list is accurate

Jesus fucking christ, is this just one angry Zeke fangirl?

He's a hard worker who's been focused on supporting his adopted family from a young age. He's a hopeless optimist and a bit naive, but he's also aware that he needs to pursue actual solutions to the world's problems himself, not just talk a lot how things can get better and expect things to change.
I don't know about the 'seeking easy jobs' part that guy is going on about, but Rex is fairly frugal, at least when it comes to his own expenses.
One of the first thing he does with the money he gets for the big job at the beginning of the game is send 90% of it back to Fonsett, he gets upset about how he'll have to pay rent once he can't live on Gramps anymore (and Gramps even calls him a miser), and there's also that whole part where he tries to get a salvager's discount for the whole party on their trip to Mor Ardain.

What do you guys think of Rex(female)?

Attached: 1532539626492.jpg (525x572, 75K)

Yeah
Weak VA and some generally weak pacing in the story make him come off pretty rough but he was really likeable by the end.

>Was Rex a good protagonist?
He is for the basis of the story but not likable to any adult like me, just very cringe to see how textbook he is. Another jrpg protag that drones over a chick, yawn.

I like her, but Torna didn't flesh her out as much as it should've.
I wish it had been a full game.

Lloyd Irving, Valkyrie Chronicles MC, pretty much every single FE protagonist, the male character from Too Love Ru and all similar animes, Ash Ketchum, most if not all other silent JRPG protagonists, most Final Fantasy spinoff protags like the Crystal Chronicles male heroes and the WoFF boy.

Just to name a few

>Lloyd Irving
user

>self insert
I don’t know what kinds of people would self insert someone like Rex
I mean he’s not some completely indifferent Gary Stu like Kirito
He’s got clear likes and dislikes and motivations and a temperament that most anime protags today don’t really have

I don't play jrpgs

try watching a few hundred anime and then try to act like rex isn't a generic character aimed at 12 year old japanese children.

>who's been focused on supporting his adopted family from a young age
That's a role he plays.
>he's also aware that he needs to pursue actual solutions to the world's problems himself, not just talk a lot how things can get better and expect things to change.
That's the same thing as "hard worker".

So he's a no personality self insert

>I don't play jrpgs
>but let me weigh into a discussion of JRPGs

>He's a generic self-insert harem protag.
Res ix a lot of things but this sure as hell isn't one of them.

The translation in general felt like it was actively trying to meme-up the script in an obvious sarcastic way when the original script is more earnest and less smarmy about it
I mean I’m pretty sure Jin’s nothin personnel line is a direct reference to the meme in the translation

>i can't name any but he's generic
Sad

Protip: If you resort to using "is a hard worker" to describe a characters personality then that character doesn't have a personality. It's not a personality trait its a fucking byproduct of being the player character

Attached: gross.jpg (294x313, 12K)

Absolutely not
It makes little sense for an adult with his own story to be the protagonist of a coming of age adventure
If anything, Morag and Zeke need their own standalone campaigns

T-Elos should also be S but otherwise accurate.

Yes he is. That's all he is.

Rex is a one dimensional character in a game where all of his party members are infinitely more interesting than him.
Even Zeke has a more interesting plot reveal than Rex ever had.

Protip: If you play the describe the personality but don't mention this, this, that or this and btw this doesn't count! you should head back to TVtropes

That bit has nothing to do with being a Hard Worker, what are you on about?
I mean describe a protagonist you like in the way that you think is a valid form for describing a personality

Yeah see you're not gonna get replies by spamming the same non-argument over and over Oh wait you're gonna just gonna call me eric cause you're the mentally insane XB2 fanboy, aren't you.

Her and Rex are my favorite Blade protags. Something about the big hearted blue-collar type sits really well with me.

Attached: 1544920453957.png (416x1158, 406K)

are you fucking retarded? the 'discussion' is of a character in a game filled with anime cliches. god damn you're fucking stupid but then again you're actually defending a trash character like rex

>every FE protagonist
You haven’t played many FE games then because most are pretty different from each other in backstory and temperament

>gets btfo
>y-yeah
Everytime

He's clearly decided he is right and isn't going to back down until someone gives him headpats and tell him what a smart boy he is. He clearly doesn't even know what "self-insert" means because Rex has an actual personality unlike say, a Persona or Pokemon protagonist who doesn't even speak except for whatever player inputs you're given.

Yeah that guy is a known autist who literally polices Yea Forums and calls anyone who says anything negative about XB2 "Eric"

They’re very earnest characters who typically start out as knowledgeable as the player, so you grow alongside them
It’s a trope but it’s stuck around because it works

>this character is a generic JRPG char
>I don't play JRPG
>are you fucking retarded off course I can discuss and weigh in on a subject I don't know about
Ok user, have fun

Oof the "Everyone is Eric" XB2 fanboy is using the double posting tactic again.

They should have been the main blades instead of Homura and Hikari.

>You need to play a lot of JRPGS to know when a character is writtten poorly
is this bait?

No, it's definitely a personality trait. Not our fault if you're too dumb or dishonest to accept this one.

Is this the new ERP thread?

Attached: ihatethisfanbasenow.png (591x963, 247K)

IF the main criticism is that a character is a cliche, you should at least be knowledgeable about the medium or genres from which the cliches originate and why they’re bad in a particular situation or overused

>everyone who disagrees with me is a samefag

Attached: chrome_2019-02-24_10-57-20.png (541x93, 6K)

>try to meme him as generic
>get called out
>is this bait

>see a thread potentially shitting on XB2
>I bet fucking money that BlunderEric is losing his mind in that thread
>come check
>He's in here right on cue having a sperg out
Lol Classic BlunderEric. Still mad that Rex will never get added to Smash, ey buddy?

>titty rabbit and KOS-MOS never ever
No matter how many boosters and legendaries I use, I still get my shit fucked up.

>Still mad that Rex will never get added to Smash
Wait. I thought Rex did get added to smash?

>you should at least be knowledgeable about the medium or genres from which the cliches originate
So anime

Nope the character is blank and generic. We've proven that already

>We've proven that already
Where?

>this character is a generic JRPG char
never said that but nice try dipshit. anime and jap games tend to share the same trash writers so they're often filled with the same character archetypes and tropes. this game is a fine example of that. it's fine if kids are fine with this low quality shounen writing but defending it as an adult is pathetic

>a personality trait that’s really popular isn’t a personality trait even if it’s shown in the story because I said so!
This kind of goes to a larger discussion about what is or isn’t a character. The whole plinkett meme says you have to be able to describe them without including what they do or look like but a lot of what informs your understand of a character is their actions and their intent.

Saying that Rex doesn't have a personality is dumb.
For sure, he doesn't have a complex personality, but that the case for all the character in the game, they are all more or less close to some kind of trope.

>never said that
See

Yeah but even anime isn’t a single homogenous thing. Cliches often found in Shōnen are non existent in shojo for instance.
To say XB2 is bad because it uses anime cliches is to imply
>the cliches are bad
Or
>the cliches are misused
Because cliches by themselves aren’t really that bad

>this character doesn't have the unique traits it has and is actually just a X trope, no I haven't played the game, why do you ask?
I really wish we could nuke TVTropes from the internet

A character can be shit while not being a generic self insert. Rex is shit but not because he's a generic self insert. It's because he's an immature naive brat that takes too long to get his shit together and his friends all suffer for it.

>We've proven that already
We didn't though.

He failed the plinkett test

No he didn't

the reddit is strong with this one

This is a valid criticism.
Now I'm not sure that you can blame him for that though. He is just a kid after all, if somehow he was super reliable he would be just as bad.

He follows the hero's journey to a T. He's literally Japanese luke skywalker.

?

>he's an immature naive brat that takes too long to get his shit together
Plinkett test passed. Wew.

I think you and me both play a very different game.

>being a brat is a role

who are you quoting

>He follows the hero's journey
Being able to interpretative something into the monomyth is not a argument.

he's cocky as fuck to well until he gets his shit kicked in by Jin and wants to quit and just go back to salvaging

No one gives a shit about her.

If you look at the game as a whole then Rex is a pretty likeable character given how positive he is despite the absolute bloodbath of a history Alrest has and how he saved it. I think Torna made me appreciate him even more.

More likely that they knew that the World Tree was where "God" resided, as their ancestor probably used salvaged Morytha tech to enter in radio communication with Klaus (one of the pieces of technology Amalthus messes with in one of the pre-WT ascension flashbacks seems like an earpiece.

See Rex doesn't even match the trope you found, go back and find another extremely broad category of character that could fit Rex and allows retards like you to blindly like or hate characters

Best Driver/Blade couple.

Attached: 1533179555871.jpg (1099x1600, 389K)

I love Nia, and all you OPs

I'd say he was competent. He definitely achieved what Takahashi was aiming for, i.e. a classic 80-90s era shounen adventure protagonist. I don't think he was particularly good though. A lot of the issues stem from stuff not entirely his fault, like how badly Pyra falling for him was handled pre-chapter 6 or how Zeke and Morag were far more likable characters, but he still has issues of his own.

The constant hot-headed rashness that plagues him for the first five chapters is fucking tiresome and goes from "interesting character flaw to overcome" to "fucking annoying trait used for plot contrivance" with how him over-exerting himself or Pyra in battle is used several times to advance the plot while he seems literally fucking blind and deaf to all of the blatant evidence telling him to stop. His childish response to Vandham's quite frankly fucking disgusting philosophy towards war is one of the low points of the game and makes is later moralizing kind of hollow considering he's the leader of a mercenary company. The lack of any real interesting interplay between him and Jin/Malos is also a major negative, with the two having more compelling chemistry with eachother and Mythra to the point where his final exchanges with each are just sort of bland though thankfully Malos at least has his last words with Pneuma after his death which provides a more interesting end note to his character than what he has with Rex while dying imo.

I don't hate him though. He was pretty fun in the SoL scenes, his stubborn attempts to appear mature were endearing, he made a good viewpoint into the setting, and once it actually hits its stride his relationship with Pyra is pretty touching and made me warm up to him more. I just feel that he really fails to carry the more mature elements of the story that crop up and isn't an interesting contrast or counterpart to the major antagonists, both of which in my books are pretty big failings for a protagonist.

GO BACK

ALPHA BY NAME
ALPHA BY NATURE

Attached: alpha.jpg (1000x1414, 767K)

To add onto this, if XC2 had more heavily leaned into Mythra's character and her development I probably wouldn't be so negative towards Rex. If the game focused less on him and the antagonists and more on her past with them I feel it'd improve the overall story a good deal - she's just got a better setup to play off of them with their shared history and the parallels between them, and the fact that the game tries to hone in on Rex as a refutation of their viewpoints rather than using him as a compliment to Mythra doing so irks me. Rex could work okay as a counter-point to Jin's thoughts on humanity in general with how he grows as a Driver and a refutation of Malos' darker thoughts about his nature being beyond his control throughout the game, so long as Mythra could carry the bulk of the conflict between the hero group and Torna.

Though I'm also one of the people who thinks the game should have had Pyra represent the idealized aspects of Mythra she wishes she had and that her arc was more about excepting herself as she was while learning to be more like the kind, level-headed, and wise persona she had crafted with the two fusing at the end - instead of Pyra being an entirely separate individual and the two splitting. In general I think Mythra's arc is way weaker than Rex's because of how she's sort of de-prioritized with regards to the moral conflict with her old rival/friend and how Pyra is handled alongside her.

Okay, I'm done openly fantasizing about how I wish XC2 had been written now. And I really feel the need to reiterate that despite my issues and the fact I'd have written it massively differently I still enjoyed my 189 hours with it a lot.

cursed

THAT SOUNDS LIKE COMMIE PROPAGANDA
Vandham was based. Why'd he have to die bros?

he wasn't insultingly bad but not any good either
serviceable at best

I'm glad they decided to keep using Poppi's most based form for the story stuff instead of switching to QT after chapter 4.

Rough translations
>Ayo hol up, so you be saying we wuz Torna n shiet?
>You dirty ape! I want your BHC!

Bro...

Yeah?

He's trying to justify the existence of private military companies that operate independent of regulatory oversight or any form of governmental control beyond needing to base their operations out of Uraya and taking business from the crown. He's arguing for violence being okay to commit so long as you use the profits of it to provide for your loved ones and also deploy it protectively for them also. I fucking abhor anyone who thinks war can ever be morally justified, it's a base, repulsive mindset responsible for much of human suffering.

>inb4 all you take are escort/bodyguard/oddjob missions through merc stuff
That's under Rex. Vandham himself and others mention going to war and battle with the Garfont company.

I'm glad because i like poppi alpha's design the best but i did think it was kinda weird how she would always change depending on h2h's and non story cutscenes

Storywise, she's able to switch between the three right?

>can't put poppibuster on tora

Attached: 1534690183534.jpg (640x480, 20K)

>independent of regulatory oversight
Considering how cucked over to the Praetorium both Uraya and Mor Ardain were, can you blame him?

>governmental control
You mean medieval kingdoms and empires
>He's arguing for violence being okay to commit so long as you use the profits of it to provide for your loved ones
In a world of violence and death, peoples lands are quite literally falling into the ocean disappearing forever, why are you treating him like a modern PMC?

I agree completely.
Replaying the game in NG+ really made me aware of just how little Pyra and Mythra interact with the antagonists, and it's really disappointing.
Especially when it comes to the final boss, Malos is supposed to be their counterpart, but he spends almost all of the final battle arguing with Rex. Even still I enjoyed all of that a lot, it felt like Pneuma should've had a much bigger role in those scenes.

I swear every series now has one. Still not nearly as bad as XV-kun

>Vandham: It's all the same. Compasses, valves for ether stoves... Armies need all these things. That bread you're eating? It's made from ruska flour. Supplied by the Ardainian government. This world's full of war. Don't matter if you're a soldier or not. As long as you're alive... ...you're in the war, some way or another.

Yeah, she switches to QT in Tantal once.

Storywise, QTpi isn't canon since she's tied to a non-mandatory sidequest, and Poppi is able to switch between Alpha and QT depending on how much of her Ether Furnace she's using.

Yes. He was one of the more interesting members in the cast. Along with Nia.

Pyra and Mythra were ironically more boring

no

Vandham: My crew at the village, we think we're fighting for justice. But, a just fight? I'm tellin' you now, there's no such thing. What people call justice? It's just an excuse to fight. War is war. The more you stand up for yourself, the more people wanna fight you. Before you know it, you're in a war. Listen. All I'm saying is, we got our fight, and he's got his.
Vandham: Yeah, it's bad. But war ain't about right and wrong. Power. That's all it is. And power can take many different forms. It depends on the heart of its wielder. If we don't use our power, just 'cos we're scared of it, we're done for. As for who's right and who's wrong... No one knows for sure. So, all we can do, is protect what's important.

Yes, really. The fact the UN is a corrupt organization subject to the interests of shitholes like Saudi Arabia due to geopolitics doesn't mean it's okay to start up your own mercenary company and start selling your services in battle to the highest bidder.

Same applies here in my books. The fact society excuses the existence of PMCs and has normalized them to the point people causally hire members for oddjobs is a disturbing aspect of XC2 society that shows what a shithole the world is in the present of it imo. Vandham doing charitable work and not conscripting child soldiers actively doesn't excuse the rest of the shit to me.

>You mean medieval kingdoms and empires
You can't really compare how government appears to work in XC2 to the medieval era for a lot of reasons. There's signs of advanced governmental institutes that would show up in Europe for centuries after that period, along with other myriad differences. At the end of the day there's a clear, widely accepted societal organization in Uraya and he is not subject to it beyond his business interests by any account.
>In a world of violence and death, peoples lands are quite literally falling into the ocean disappearing forever, why are you treating him like a modern PMC?
Because they operate nothing like pre-modern mercenary companies.

People will say he's bad in this thread, but he's actually best boy of all time

>You can't really compare how government appears to work in XC2 to the medieval era for a lot of reasons
Why?
>There's signs of advanced governmental institutes that would show up in Europe for centuries after that period, along with other myriad differences
Which ones?
> the end of the day there's a clear, widely accepted societal organization in Uraya and he is not subject to it beyond his business interests by any account
The Kingdom of Uraya?

Everything else still fits the bill.

>this completely broad interpretation of multiple different characters that can be summed up as "Young boy who goes on adventure" fits this young boy! #REX BTFO WHERE MY DIVERSE BROWN WOMEN AT?
Go back to TVtropes

whoops second half was meant for sorry.

This kind of just proves my points, no? He's trying to paint his mercenary work as a noble resistance towards the world which would harm what he cares about while claiming that war is just the way of reality and something you either are a victim of or rise up within and exert your power.

It's all fucking bullshit to try make his choices seem moral, or at least to paint the world as so immoral that he has no choice but to act as he does.

oh shit wrong pic, sorry

Attached: 1535238920666.gif (520x293, 3.35M)

This almost makes me think the game might have good writing, but just looking at the OP I know better.

He has very sexy pecs.

>He's trying to paint his mercenary work as a noble resistance
>But, a just fight? I'm tellin' you now, there's no such thing
No, the opposite, he is explaining to Rex that the global war for resources is rapidly encompassing EVERY single aspect of life in the game and frames Rexs desire to find Elysium and save the world.

>I fucking abhor anyone who thinks war can ever be morally justified, it's a base, repulsive mindset responsible for much of human suffering.
you are literally subhuman

Especially since Vandham says there is no such thing as a 'Just' War and he just wants to use his strength to protect things he cares about

Britty good

I know this post might earn some REEEs but my gf watched me play through XC2 and while she enjoyed it she often stated that the way Malos and Jin ignored Homura/Pyra completely while talking to Rex except to sometimes make a jab at their appearance felt like a group of men talking over the women in the group even though they should really have a lot more to say to the women due to their shared past.

>Which ones?
Constitutional monarchies in which the monarch devolves administration work to lower houses of government, consulates, international peace treaties with regulatory bodies overseeing them, advanced diplomatic services, and merchant guilds which operate in ways highly similar to joint-stock companies such as the East India Company all come to mind.

>The Kingdom of Uraya?
Yes? Unless I'm forgetting some mention of it not being unified throughout the Titan and there being rival kingdoms within it, the entire Titan is supposedly overseen by the Queen with the various noble houses having a lower chamber.

>You're at the train platform and the conductor slaps your girlfriend's ticket what do you do?

Attached: 1550536167561.jpg (2724x2725, 573K)

>reee you're subhuman if you think war isn't inherently immoral
It really saddens me that you believe that.

Gonna have to disagree. It's all just rhetoric to mask the fact he profits off of it as a business venture and makes a living fighting for those who seek to bring it about, dude is part of the cause for the problem but tries to pretend he's just subject to it like the average layperson is. The fact he calls war bad doesn't invalidate this, it's just part of the moral dissonance of his behavior.

Nah that seems completely fair honestly. It's really fucking jarring once you play Torna how little the three interact in the base-game. Malos mindfucking her in particular is weird since you'd expect way more fucking dialogue between the two or at least some more detailed references to their shared history but he kinda just hones in on other shit and moves on.

>international peace treaties
The Treaty of Tordesillas by the Pope in 1494
>consulate
The Genoese had consulates
But over all you just want to ignore the framework of the resource war and the lack of common ground an international body would require, the fact that entire kingdoms have SUNK TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA might also hamper that

Based

Attached: 72266015_p19.jpg (979x1400, 1.05M)

>the game might have good writing
It doesn't. The writing and cutscenes are usually like this pic. Ragetard shonen shit.

Attached: 1521288379736.jpg (1280x718, 94K)

>It's all just rhetoric to mask the fact he profits
That's your opinion and one not supported by the game.
>dude is part of the cause for the problem
He is not sinking kingdoms, no.

>please ignore the script and instead of 5 second clips like that
Huh.

Wasn't Rex the adult of the party before you get Morag?

He was explaining stuff to Nia, Tora, and Pyra literally everywhere they went because he was knowledgeable as a scavenger about a bunch of shit.
The only thing he was ignorant on was Blades and Divers.

Why the fuck is everyone calling him an ignorant kid?

Attached: 1526917005348.png (1200x2025, 2.16M)

Wonder where tf I even got a gf from.

>Rex
>Cocky
maybe for like twenty minutes but he spends literally the entire first ten hours of the game getting his shit kicked in over and over and over.
Jin kills him, Morag beats his ass, Vandham beats his ass, Torna beats his ass and he's only bailed out by Vandham's sacrifice, Rex fucking rakes in the Ls so fast he doesn't have time to be cocky.

>The Treaty of Tordesillas by the Pope in 1494
You picked something literally as close to the edge of the end of the medieval era as you possibly could which is often cited as a sign of the transition in international politics which defines the gradual end of it.
>The Genoese had consulates
Unfortunately I can't comment further because I really ain't too familiar with them during the period, that's interesting to know though.

>But over all you just want to ignore the framework of the resource war
How? Nothing Vandham says really exonerates him in light of it, he's at a minimum adopted a fatalistic mindset of it being inevitable and taken to profiting off the conflict which ensues while trying to portray himself as blameless for it. It's all bullshit predicated on the notion that nations HAVE to go to war, when co-operation and peaceful co-existence is entirely possible even if it is only prolonging the inevitable. There's no necessity for Uraya and Mor Ardhain to be in a standoff, and the invasion of Gormott is the same. Population control and diplomacy could alleviate a huge amount of the troubles facing the XC2 setting - the Titans having an expiration date is still obviously a problem, but it pushes it far into the future instead of the current situation where they're all looking out for number one and you have shit like citizens going hungry in Fonsa Myma so the army can stockpile for war.

>the fact that entire kingdoms have SUNK TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA might also hamper that
Literally half a millennia ago and irrelevant to what Vandham says.

>Literally half a millennia ago
>we see a large titan sink in the fucking OPENING CUTSCENE
I'm done, I'm fucking done

He's streetwise. He knows his things but it's a narrow scope since he had to focus on those things for a living. Ever since getting bonded to the Aegis he's been thrust onto an entirely new global stage of politics and war and stuff that any ordinary salvager wouldn't ever have to deal with.

tl;dr he's great at the small stuff but once the scope starts expanding he's hopelessly out of his depth.

>That's your opinion and one not supported by the game.
It is though. The moral of his storyline is contradicted by the evidence, hence it being a lowpoint for the game.
>He is not sinking kingdoms, no.
But he is helping to propagate the conflict which is vastly worsening the situation for every living person and causing so much misery. There is no need for the cold war between Uraya and Mor Ardhain or any other conflict in XC2, men like Vandham are part of what helps to keep such shit ongoing.

>There's no necessity for Uraya and Mor Ardhain to be in a standoff, and the invasion of Gormott is the same
>There's no necessity for Mor Ardhain
What the fuck am I reading

Someone saved my screenshot, neat.

Attached: D0IsXPlUYAAwIoS.jpg (1280x720, 107K)

>It is though.
Where?
>But he is helping to propagate the conflict
Evidence? Or are you using propagate without understanding what it means?
> There is no need for the cold war between Uraya and Mor Ardhain
Except the titan Mor Ardhain is literally fucking dying

Sorry, ESL and sometimes get confused with verbs. Thought you were referring to Titans being killed in the Aegis War and not just naturally dying.

Though now that you bring it up I always found it odd how little that specific moment got brought up later on considering how it seems like it should have been a major deal. I don't think anyone even acknowledges the fact a Titan recently disappeared beyond the party.

Common core

The way Rex reacts suggests seeing titans die is getting to be a pretty common occurrence, so odds are it's not big news. And Gramps points out that any people or animals living on it would've left a long time before then, anyways.

>I always found it odd how little that specific moment got brought up later
Because of how common it is
>Rex: Not another one… Been happenin’ a lot lately…
>Azurda: Mm… More so than before.
Now remember how old Rex is, think about it
>been happenin' A LOT lately
>MORE SO THAN BEFORE
Basically the world is ending

Mor Ardhain's Titan dying doesn't mean it has to subjugate others and resort to war. If the world actually used diplomacy first and operated towards efficient resource usage/peace then the Titans wouldn't be so overpopulated for their relative size and having a society on one close to death move to one which could sustain them also wouldn't be an issue. Like I said, population control alone would solve a huge amount of issues that arose since the Titan life cycle being interrupted.

The fact of the matter is that it could still be done but war profiteers and unsuitable leadership have fucked things up for everyone else. There doesn't HAVE to be war because of resource scarcity, not when there's centuries left for many Titans and it's possible to gauge their relative life cycle. It's not the natural consequence of that scenario, it's just the one XC2's society arrived at. Vandham is only right about war being part of life and inevitable in the sense that no society is trying to avoid it and men like him have accepted it, it's a problem brought about as a consequence of actions undertaken over centuries - not the default state of the world.

I wish the blades weren't unlocked through the gacha and that more of the rare blades had story relevance. It's obvious that COS-MOS has a ton of knowledge of the world before the cloudsea stored in her head but they just give you one short cutscene about it and that's it.

Malos did nothing wrong

I need one more poppi blade that anyone can use so I can have 3 poppi a's on the field at once.

>Mor Ardhain's Titan dying doesn't mean it has to subjugate others and resort to war
>they should just die lol
>move to one which could sustain them
Fucking HOW
How do you sustain yourself with no food, water or land?

When did they ever mention overpopulation being a problem on the titans?

I think he's referring to
>Mòrag: Our population is large. Larger than Uraya's.
But that does not mean they were overpopulated on the titan or not using population control methods but their titan is dying

It's pretty accurate though I think it overrates T-elos and Perun and underrates Kassandra.

It's based mostly on post game content and challenge mode where dame is the most important factor. Kassandra is a fine tank but all pure tanks, especially shield hammers, are pretty shit

Attached: 1550545764860.jpg (1378x2039, 2.25M)

>While Hugo is emperor of Mor Ardain, their relationship with Gormott seems very promising, with both nations' representatives optimistic for their future together
>Hugo dies and his asshole brother takes over
>Everything goes to shit, eventually culminating in Mor Ardain conquering Gormott by force
thanks Mythra

I know, and Kassandra is more or less on-par with Poppibuster imo because she's a relatively high DPS hammer and has the benefit of being dark type. Nothing below B tier on that list has any non-meme uses in optimized play aside from Azami on some challenges iirc and Poppi Alpha being a reaction for Tora.

Which is why it's wierd that T-Elos is A and not S considering you can put a crit mod on and have endless B spam.

Pisses me off that we never actually purge her bad luck curse. She's such a fucking cutie she deserves better.

>you can put a crit mod on and have endless B spam.
That's literally all greataxes on Zeke

No, fuck that kid.

And I'm not saying that because I'm jealous of him or anything...

If he was half a decade older and wore people clothes he would have been.

They should've scrapped all the sidequests and just had them be different ways to introduce Blades. None of the sidequests are worth jack shit and they constantly devolve into multiple layers of fetch quest. No-one fucking uses commons either. Meanwhile other Blades are introduced in a way that helps with the world building and gives context to what their place in the world was.

Shut up Boco

>Boco
>no Pico

Yes sir...

I'm sure the dialogue isn't praiseworthy in Nip either, but it wouldn't surprise me if the localization made it worse. I've watched some scenes in Japanese and they definitely outright rewrote some things for no reason, like the exchange between gramps and Dromarch at the end of Mythra's sleepwalking scene and at least a few things with Poppi. Kinda why I want to just play the Japanese version, but fuck, it's still 70 dollars and I'm not sure if I'm even going to like the game or not, I already quit during chapter 4 a year ago. But I'm going to give it a try again.

Attached: 1550257102096.jpg (2546x3840, 2.13M)

Isn't torigoth burned to the fucking ground while Hugo is emperor? That's why gormott needs those mor ardain troops stationed there, to ensure stability.

I don't usually like lolis but Praxis makes my dick respond in ways I'm not used to.

Only because Xenoblade 2 has no depth for him other than liking girls. He's extremely bland because he's just some generic nobody who fell in love with the girl who wants to kill herself.

She looks more slender than loli.

No. Just a bland as fuck optimistic shonen lad. And as far as jrpg main characters go, this doss cunt is the closest you can get to a fucking silent protagonist without having him actually be silent. And as far as costume design goes this prat makes Sora look like he's been outfitted by Prada. I don't think it's an overstatement to say he has the worst costume in video game history.

Praxis isn't really that much of a loli. Theory definitely is though

Let's talk about the new lore revealed by this pic! It comes with this dialogue:
>Hey Rex! OLD Rex! I found the book you wanted in the bookstore and bought it for you! What? Are you asleep? I will leave it here...

that's why it's been filled with shitposting about tvtropes

Mix bag. Outside of his lineage he isn't really a chosen one just an idiot who accidentally got hold of the aegis. That and he isn't gung-ho on revenge.
He's a complete idiot though to the outside world. You live on your own private titan so you aren't bound to political beliefs and you work for a trade guild so you should have knowledge of how the world works.

LMAO no. Even Tatsu would be a better protagonist than him.

Healers are low tier (Fiora and Adenine, excepting) because they're pointless to have around end game when crit healing does the same and is more consistent.

I shitposted too hard and now the jannies are gonna come after me. I leave you fuckers with this before I get banned and have to go reset my modem.

I liked him at first. Working class boy is something I can relate to. But unfortunately he doesn't go anywhere as a character, just PYRAAAAAAAAAAA. Xenoblade 2 story just is not good despite having some interesting things/lore in it.

Pyra/Mythra are the real problem, just awful characters.

You guys need to stop making these threads consecutively. They get worse and worse every day and it's downright the same people every single time. I agree that this thread isn't really necessary but it was made so might as well post in it

Attached: dg0qgei4ued21.jpg (2048x1152, 279K)

I truthfully only come into these threads to shitpost at this point since the people here can't help but fall for the simplest of bait. I mentioned anime tropes earlier for the hundredth time and as usual people replied saying "nuh uh!"

>The constant hot-headed rashness that plagues him for the first five chapters is fucking tiresome and goes from "interesting character flaw to overcome" to "fucking annoying trait used for plot contrivance" with how him over-exerting himself or Pyra in battle is used several times to advance the plot while he seems literally fucking blind and deaf to all of the blatant evidence telling him to stop

That was the point. 15 year old kid is now the wielder of the legendary weapon. His immaturity doesn't allow him to correctly respond to the situation, and the constant presence of Pyra/Mythra doesn't allow him to mature from that state.

You know what would vastly improve the QoL of this game and series? A fucking glossary of at least enemies and items.
Every JRPG for the past 20 years has managed it, yet this one which requires you to go back and defeat specific monsters doesn't fucking have one. Are Nintendo just that fucking lazy they can't include one? It makes it so that you have to constantly be looking at a guide as you play it just to see where every fucking monster and item in the game is.

Got the rabbit as my first rare blade the first time I played. Never got KOS-MOS though.

He probably got banned. Press For to pay respects

XCX had one so they probably planned for one in this too. But never got around to it.

The game had a encyclopedia option in the menu as late as the E3 2017 demo. Probably ended up being cut to make the planned release date.

>Nintendo
What?

The game was rushed to meet the 2017 release then the dev team forgot to implement it. X had one despite not being very good but it still had it, and I think you could see a glossary option in the Nintendo directs showcasing xenoblade 2 when they were first revealing gameplay.

It's infuriating that this game which needs it more than any other doesn't have one. I'll be looking at an affinity chart for a blade and it says something like
>defeat MKVI. Famillon at the World Tree
Oh thanks game. I don't have a photographic memory that remember every fucking unique enemy in the game and where it is. Guess I'll just have to walk through the entire fucking area to find it.
There's so many small things like this that just ruin the game for me. It's like they wanted to make it as frustrating as possible to 100% everything.

If he got banned his posts would have all been deleted. He's just a blueballing cunt.

>X had one despite not being very good

The game was rushed and they didn't have their full crew, what did you expect?

>Guess I'll just have to walk through the entire fucking area to find it.
Or do what a sane person would and check the XC2 wiki or ask google?

My point is that the game shouldn't be made with the expectation that people be constantly looking at a guide just to get through it.

That's no excuse though
Sure there are websites that functionally act as a bestiary but it's absolutely a feature that should have been included in the game. I love XC2 too user but it's important to recognize it's flaws

That's only for the posts you were reported for. I've been banned and entire threads I started and dumped were still up.

Hes great in doujins

The dub was great.

XB2 in general would just benefit from a fucking re-release with all the cut features like Camp Fire sections put back in and all the story bits they didn’t have time to spend more time on expanded
If every fucking FF and KH game can get tons of re releases, why can’t XB2 get one

We live in the age with digital updates, if they're going to do that they'll make it dlc or wait till the next console

Well but it seems he’s saying they overdid it in parts and that whole phase of Rex’s character overstayed it’s welcome before he starts to change and develop

What camp fire sections?

All Xenoblades are better played dubbed

from Torna

Zeke can do that with all axes and you need to understand just how fucking busted Fiora and qtpi are before you understand how retarded it would be to even consider T-elos as the same tier.

Honestly for most of the game I ranged from tolerance to fondness, and then endgame where he's just getting grilled and confronted by his subconscious insecurities manifested as his party members really boosted my impression of him. It was a fucking great sequence.

You have your standard JRPG hero. Idealistic, energetic, runs on pithy platitudes and bravado with no time for your stuffy social etiquette or whatever. But it's always undercut by the fact that the game presents this perception of him being childish and immature even though at 15 he's only really a year younger than your average JRPG/anime hero. Marth and Roy from Fire Emblem are around his age, for example. But it's not really so cynical, the way Kefka in FF6 shouted down the heroes after they give them the spiel about a world worth fighting for, more just presenting Rex as a young man, really barely on the path to adulthood, confronted with the chance to grow as a person. I think it strikes a good contrast with Shulk, who's older and much more focused and set as a hero, and sets off on his journey for the purpose of avenging Fiora.
Look at his first portrait. The onesie with shorts, the almost prepubescent build, the way his diving suit looks too big for him and how his head is tilted down slightly to give the perception he's looking up. He looks like his parents dressed him for a "what do you want to be when you grow up" day at elementary school.

Attached: Xenoblade-2-Rex.png?ssl=1.png (675x1200, 174K)

It wasn't as bad as some people say, but it wasn't good either.
The next game's dub needs to at least TRY to live up to XB1.

Then you get his Master Driver outfit. He looks a lot sharper, and his new outfit gives him a broader, more intimidating silhouette. Might as well have just called it the puberty promotion.
Yeah it's all kind of undercut by Rex getting to live happily ever after forever with both Pyra and Mythra thanks to some good old fashioned deus ex machina but still, who the hell wants to put in god knows how many hours for a hollow victory of an ending?

Plus he looks goofy swinging around a sword as big as he is and I really like that.

Attached: hSKEmqW.png (714x921, 1.27M)

Theory, Praxis, and QTpi should have been tied to the story instead of being stuck in sidequests.

Attached: 1550821377189.jpg (758x1024, 155K)

Considering how much effort Theory and Praxis had put into their sidequests, I get the feeling they were meant to be more tied into the story but got reduced to side quest status to meet time constraints.

Other than Roc, are there any blades canon to the storyline?

I think most of the blade side quests were just meant to expand the world without having to implement that world building into the story

Aegaeon and technically Wulfric

lol Aegaeon

Here's your waifu blade bro.

Attached: vess.jpg (640x902, 174K)

>the extra belts only exist to barely cover his bulge in promo art
Sasuga Japan.

>I think most of the blade side quests were just meant to expand the world without having to implement that world building into the story
I agree, but the theory and praxis quests all take place in order of places you actually visit throughout the story. First meeting is in torigoth, then you track them to mor ardain where you obtain Praxis, then you do Praxis' missions until you unlock the mission in Temperantia where you fight Theory and get her crystal. It's all in the same order of islands you visit in the story.

I dunno, maybe it's pure coincidence but it just stood out to me.

AYY LMAO

Malos alone makes it great
Malos alone also makes the game great in general

Her dub voice made this design tolerable.

Remember that time Nia gave Malos super cancer?

Why are the Torna characters and gameplay so much better than the base game? Chadam and Lora are too based

And then Malos just walks it off in the next cutscene! What a guy.

Attached: 1533533754184.png (364x326, 149K)

I didn't really like Rex mainly because other than carrying Pyra and Mythra he was just caught between all the stuff happening in the world and what was going like the titans dying and everyone fighting for space. I was just more interested in what was going on between the nations and such more than Rex's magical quest to save them all
But he's still a step up from Vaan at least

>technically Wulfric
You're never forced to awaken his core like Aegaeon and Roc, so not really.

I still don't get it..

I also like how Praxis and Theory's quests tie in to the main themes of the game with their quest expanding on the importance of memories.

Attached: 1518465650714.png (1060x1491, 2.22M)

I don't get what you don't get, user.

AND YOU FIND PADRAG

AND YOU FIND PADRAG

that's why i said technically. His core crystal is canon but not him. What a sad existence lol

I thought it was hot

>tfw you only understood it by the time you hit the final boss
And it wasn't even useful for him. Fuck the tutorial system is a joke.

I like this chart way better

Attached: borx50a2bsh01.png (856x557, 288K)

Honestly I expected them to patch in all the Torna features into the base game after it came out. XC2 would've been really fucking good if it had an extra year

>tfw playing this for the first time this month and currently on Chapter 3
>got 3 B-tier Blades via Common

is it luck or pity

>describe a character
>OH BUT DONT DESCRIBE ANYTHING ABOUT THEM THAT WOULD MAKE THEM NOT GENERIC
Fucking shit for brains.

Attached: 1547918266745.png (377x227, 64K)

I don't get it..

Not really, his growth is painfully slow and arguably non-existent, I get the story is about growing into a man, but holy shit get on with it, he is still a blubbering whiny little bitch at the very end

also follows way too many shonen tropes

depends on the blades. There are sets of pity blades

You're a legitimate retard.

He wasn't bad but I wouldn't say he was very good. He was pretty generic.

Got 2 blue haired girls and pink on on the end of the B list in that pic.

The game fucking has a literal harem ending with the insanely generic big tiddy mommyfag girls
t. someone who beat NG and NG+. Don't delude yourself you stupid Pyrafag.

>his growth is painfully slow and arguably non-existent
But he was able to copy Vandham just seeing him do the anchor shot once. Which also makes no sense because Rex shouldn't be that strong

>literally just blonde belldandy

Power levels have nothing to do with character growth you retard

The fact he threw a literal temper tantrum when Pyra pretended to sacrifice herself showed he didnt mature at all. Even the literal social retard Tora understood why she had to do it.

If you mean Agate, Nim and Adenine, they're each a pity Blade from a different pity pool, so only one of the three was an actual pity drop.

Is Finch just Merc fodder?

Is that supposed to be a bad thing?

what this user said So congrats that means you're pretty luckily and only 1/3 of the blades could have been from pity

>Adenine is a pity blade
I've been using a shitty party. Someone tell me who I should be using for each driver.

oh neat
I mean I'm still early on and Lv. 27, so I guess there's no point being anal.

The chart most likely isn't considering Blade/Driver combos, but in no way is one of the bottom tiers going to be your main blade unless you like battles lasting forever.

Adenine is pity. I always get her super early. The other 2 are decent gets.

Imo Finch isn't actually the worst blade in the game but for the criteria the tier list was using it's very understandable that she would be ranked last.
Shield hammers in general are the worst weapon glass in the game and are pretty shitty though so you could probably have her be Merc fodder. But she's one of the more fun blades to use because of her gimmicks and for that reason i think she's worth keeping around more than say Godfrey

Attached: finch.jpg (1200x1600, 230K)

If adenine is the healer blade with the book and Morioka Moriko's VA then she's actually the best healing blade in the game that's not DLC when equipped on Rex. Just pummeling shit with her blade equipped does so much passive healing your party becomes immortal.

Attached: 356076.jpg (225x350, 32K)

Adenine is amazing for farming legendary cores tho.

I've been using her and Vess on Nia. I didn't unlock Fiora until I beat Malos.

Doesn't change the fact she's a pity.

She's also great on Nia since Nia's AI is good at running around picking up potions. If you're playing actively as Nia with Adenine though then you're just slowing down your gameplay.

Pity doesn't mean bad. The game has 5 different sets of 3 blades that it will give you if you go long enough without summoning one

I forget exactly who does best with which blade but GENERALLY:
Rex can do well with anything but excels with regular attacking blades like lances and knuckles
Zeke does well with Ether cannons, Great axes, and bitballs. But ether cannons and axes are better than the balls
Morag does best with katanas and lances i think
Nia isn't very good in post game but for the story she does well with twin rings, knuckles, bitballs, and ether cannons

There are 5 different sets of pity blades. It's impossible to tell which one is his pity blade.

>people on this board actually played the game with the fucking horrendous dub

Attached: get_the_aion.jpg (480x617, 61K)

Being a pity drop doesn't mean the Blade is bad, user

Yeah, and I had a great time doing it.

Attached: 1534809600390.png (200x200, 39K)

Playing in Japanese is great if possible, but using the Japanese VA serves if you're stuck with the English version.

of course not what the fuck kinda series do you think this is?

Attached: 1550868156845.png (1600x1400, 627K)

Not him, but half of what made XB1 memorable for me was the character interactions during/after battle. Being unable to understand them would be no fun.

I don't like using Nia as a blade though. I feel like I'm sacrificing a solid blade slot since the Morag and Zeke will end up having to have a healer blade between them or Rex will be stuck on being detail through Nia dicking over my damage output.

To do this you need to start the threads with a Nia image in the OP. I'm not even kidding, Nia threads are noticeably and consistently higher quality than starting the threads with an image of Rex or Pyra or Mythra

So big of a cuckqueen is Nia?

I don't get it

Attached: 1550259989512.jpg (3510x4262, 2.4M)

I UNIRONICALLY love Rex's outfit fashion design and think it is UNIQUE. I've never seen anything like it.. Fucking undies, tanktops and boxer briefs with huge robot armor legs, some armor on his arms with his scooba helmet chilling like a hoodie. Complete basedboy

no but his dick was

nia is the second biggest cuckqueen of the series

I do not like XC2. That is all.

I'm telling you as someone who played the game entirely in jap not being able to understand them is entirely outweighed by not being entirely pulled out of the game by uncomfortably terrible voice acting
during battles most of what they say is generic anyway and all you really need is the tone

You need to actually be in a relationship with someone to be a cuckquean.

I agree i don't like using Nia as a blade either,
but in late game/post game there's an item you can get called an Avant Garde Medal which heals you everytime you land a critical hit. This item invalidates the need for a dedicated healer for challenge mode stuff. But there's nothing wrong with using Nia and healing blades if that's what you want. It's not optimal but it's not like you won't be able to complete challenge mode missions using her. If anything she serves as a great safety net.
Being optimal in a single player jrpg is wack anyway. Use whatever you like (except shield hammers)

the only really bad thing I thought was the AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA and the FIIIIIIIIIRE SWORD from the cutscene or something around there
also pre, post, and during combat barks are a pretty big part of the sense of a character, half the things people post are the random barks in the world, not any of the actual dialogue
actually with specifically this game some people do post the dialogue, but that's a somewhat rare exception

>Being optimal in a single player jrpg is wack anyway. Use whatever you like (except shield hammers)
being optimal is like 90% of the endgame of an atelier game

Attached: 1535905374.png (573x528, 227K)

He says while posting a picture that uses the dub's names

JOIN MEEEEEEEEE was also pretty bad
but i actually felt like rex's voice actor was fine when it came to casual conversation dialogue like with the post battle lines and h2h's. Plus i felt like the accents added a lot of charm to the game and playing without them wouldn't feel the same

Oh yea that too, for some reason I was thinking that was with AAAAAAA.
Everyone being some flavor of british was nice too, i agree.

Attached: 1550247420843.jpg (4032x3024, 2.08M)

most of the people in this thread haven't played the game at all
those things are still there in jap a lot of it is engrish anyway and way better delivered
there was far more terribly wrong with the dub than just muh screams, almost every part of it from casting to lip sync to mixing to accurate tone to having the characters even sound like they are talking to each other is bad
you shouldn't have to make excuses for the one thing critical to being immersed in the world and believing the characters are real
the accents are the most surface deep thing you could list as a positive and even those are unfitting, nia sounds 3 times her age

He should've been inside the protag

there's being optimal and then there's being autistically optimal which is what the XC2 tier list was made with in mind.
Like using katanas on Morag because she has the best arts with the weapon and that makes them optimal is fine. Using Corvin because he completely breaks the Elma boss fight which is totally doable without him but you want to beat the boss as fast as possible is the kind of optimal i think is wack

>being disingenuous
>no argument
>can't greentext

endless_ejaculation.swf

Hot damn.

Cope, XC2 deserves to be made fun of

i've always been more or less fine with dubs if they actually put effort into them (which a lot of games don't) and they aren't anything too atrocious
a bunch of the things sound pretty bad out of context, and don't really sound much better in context either, but those are few and far between, and I'd rather sit through those then not hear the random barks, because i specifically really like the random barks and am always pretty disappointed when a game with a shit/no dub doesn't translate them (which they never do)

Attached: HE FUCKED THE BIRD.jpg (4640x3480, 1.65M)

hot

Attached: vdtXjiU.jpg (700x888, 76K)

Why is it when people talk about how shitty the dub is they always cite the fact that Nia's dub voice doesn't match her jp voice?
I watch anime, I've heard like 1000 genki girl voices that sound just like Nia's jp voice. It does nothing for me it's just a standard voice. I don't hear a deep welsh accented voice on a character often and so it's perfectly reasonable that I would find more enjoyment out of the novelty of Nia's dub voice than the genericness of her jp voice

>there's being optimal and then there's being autistically optimal which is what the XC2 tier list was made with in mind.
yea, and that's what the endgame of atelier is, going through hours of very specific crafting to get all the specific attributes and traits onto your equipment so you can OHKO the hardest superboss in the game before it can even move
It's stupid to do in most games, but people still enjoy it sometimes.

Roc's gender is labeled in the game's files as the number 4

>most of the people in this thread haven't played the game at all
Why do you think that? Do you really think the majority of people who are taking the time to post in a Xenoblade 2 thread more than a year after it's release haven't gotten around to playing it by now?

>a bunch of things
>few and far between
pick one

No_

WELSH GOOD
WELL ACTED FITTING VOICE BAD

Attached: 400.jpg (423x400, 118K)

eh, my bad i suppose
I can't think of 10 lines in the game that are bad enough to remember, maybe not even 5 but probably around that, and in a game that's 100+ hours of game and dialogue that's far from it being a game changer.

No no it's WELSH GOOD and FITTED VOICE ACTING ALSO GOOD
I can't say I've ever heard her voice in nip but I'm sure it's fine enough, but the dub is good enough for me to not care about listening to the sub.

Attached: 1550247564408.jpg (4032x3024, 2.28M)

Just because it doesn't match generic school girl #2375 doesn't mean it doesn't fit

meanwhile playing in jap I can't remember a single time the thought of the voice acting being bad even manifesting in my head and can remember many times I greatly enjoyed it specifically, especially when I recognized a few actors
I don't understand why you would ever pick the option that even has the possibility of taking you out of what you're doing, which applies to basically every dub of japanese media that exists

Her nip voice is about what you'd expect for a catgirl. Some people think it's too high pitched, but I think that's overreacting a bit.
It's pretty good and definitely better acted in some of the scenes were dub Nia is iffy, but I prefer her dub voice overall.

>He did not.
Whoa. I'm convinced. Great argumentative skills you have, fucknuts.

>I don't understand why you would ever pick the option that even has the possibility of taking you out of what you're doing, which applies to basically every dub of japanese media that exists
because, as i said, being able to understand the small barks really lends credence to a game for me, and I've never really been great on picking out VAs without intentionally trying to do so
>which applies to basically every dub of japanese media that exists
that's just flat out wrong, some anime dubs are better than their subs

what good is understanding the barks when their tone is so off they're completely butchered?

It's more of an argument than CHARACTER SOUND DIFFERENT DUB BAD

and what value does that have over having actual key moments of the story completely ruined by the voice acting

Now I want art of Malos drinking down an Aegis full of beer and smashing it to the ground once he's done

how can you say one of the biggest moments in the game was kinda bad and in the same sentence say it didn't ruin the game
where are your standards

Because it was like 3 seconds out of hundreds of hours? Even the rest of that cutscene is fine, it's literally just him screaming join me that sounds kind of dumb.

I need that fucking new art book, I bet it has tons of cute stuff like this

>3 seconds of actual substance vs 100 hours of canned voice clips from farming field modes

You specifically mentioned that you have an issue with the casting and the fact that Nia sounds 3 times her age which means one of the only things you care about is that the VAs don't have the same exact sort of voices as their jp counterparts. This is a retarded point to make because something sounding different does not mean it is inherently worse. If you actually gave a fuck about quality voice acting you wouldn't have even cited these two things as negatives

That's Rex
You've turned Zeke into Rex
Because if you think Zeke would be noticeably different from Rex when he was younger, then you're dumb

Yes

Not him, but if one slightly awkward moment was enough to ruin the game and its cutscenes for me, I would've dropped it hours before that point.

>which means one of the only things you care about is that the VAs don't have the same exact sort of voices as their jp counterparts
literally strawmanning
why should I bother replying to you

there's a tremendous difference when that feeling comes from the source material rather than shoddy second hand production

>Literally "It's ok when japan does it"

Yeah. It's way, way worse when that stuff comes from the source material, so why would a scene with shoddy voice acting be the straw that breaks the camel's back?

why do you feel the need to intentionally twist what I say
is it because you know you're full of shit and defending something bad that you have the option to completely avoid

out all your issues with the voice acting you mentioned the casting TWICE. If that doesn't show it's one of the only things you cared about about i don't know what will

this thread turned gay
someone post lewds already

Better than Shulk and Shion.

Japan does care a shitload more about casting, though that's because VAs aren't a joke in japan, whereas in most other places it's "oh so that's the guy who voices [character] I didn't know that".
I don't know why that guy keeps sperging out over it, though. Maybe he's a nip.

Attached: Dx1bjH5VAAAO3Yn.jpg (1400x992, 191K)

is this the tier of mental capacity it takes to enjoy english dubs

I'm not sure how I'm twisting what you're saying. I'm explaining why it doesn't ruin the game for me. If it does for you...that's fine? No one here is demanding that you stop using the sub.

The dumbest meme.
