Endgame (or max level content if you want to be autistic about it) is a vital part of any multiplayer PvE game. To have nothing to do at endgame means the game has no longevity, and thus fails as a multiplayer game at the most basic level of maintaining a playerbase.

There better be a proportional amount of late-game content I actually get to experience with a maxed out character, rather than just hitting max and then the game abruptly ends 20 minutes later.

The honest truth is that Nintendo, a single developer, has created about 20% of all the 9/10+ games out there, and people superficially judge them for having "childish" art styles, rather than the same tired faux-realism.
