That twist pretty much killed the franchise. Huniepop after I romanced Beli. Combination of me making the mistake of romancing the best girl first and playing this game from 2 AM to 7 AM when I had been sleep deprived for weeks. I got a massive migraine from that even while playing and it kinda made me associate the game with really bad pain, even though my cummies and the actually fun dialogue and gameplay were worth it. Just not enough to bring me back.

I still like it but it can drag on for a bit too long and is kinda spoopy.

Hard mode doubles the exp you get from monsters, as well as vastly increasing the money drops you get (to the extent that money maintenance becomes completely negligible). Stamina cost for everything is doubled as well though, and the enemies are much much stronger.
If a huge difficulty increase with one-shots being extremely common in the early to mid-game, but it's also way more fun than the normal difficulty. Just get a good team composition or recruit a very strong low level pawn from the rift and you'll be fine.
