shame it has the worst and most boring gameplay in the series
I played it in high school and the mission structure was the best for me to play it on the way to and from school.
>the only one where characters speak like human beings
>Who else will I have ice cream with!?
I read nomura wanted to remake it before the release of I.5, but they ended up releasing it as a movie.
This game would have been fine if it was on the 3DS and if they left this game as a spinoff and not took the whole story into account for the whole series.
That being said, I was really happy to see Xion alive again, even though the reasoning behind it is an asspull.
It's also the best game in the series, period.
I knew it back then and finally people are catching on
>He didn't get a thing about the protagonist's characterization
At first I was like Oh my god Kingdom Hearts on DS!!! Then I dropped it ,I was so dissapointed after playing KH1 and 2, it was worse in every aspect.
(maybe it was better in what you say But I remember all handheld kingdom hearts game in a bad light)
Nomura wanted EVERYTHING. SE had no time for his nonsense.
Do you even understand the whole concept of Nobodies?
What KH games do you NEED to have a console other than playstation 2-4? (besides the phone game)
I know now, without a doubt
Agreed. The movie was actually really good and I loved the story, each scene on the clocktower is especially heavy because you know what's going to happen. The scene where roxas and axel are talking about summer vacation always hits me in the feels, a combination of the topic and Axel's delivery makes it great. And the fact that the gang is down there, + the whole concept of nobodies who couldn't really understand any of these concepts of friendship.
It is the most boring but i think it conveys exactly what Roxas and the others are feeling, so even if it's not intentional it is a relatively rare case of ludo-narrative assonance. I don't think story must have priority over gameplay in a videogame but i also don't think that gameplay must be "fun" to be enjoyable
>speak like real people
>We are friends let’s eat ice cream (laughs)
KH3 is Days on steroids though
The gameplay is the best part though you just don’t utilize it well enough IMO
It's actually the only game in a series about friendship where you see a friendship developing, growing and ending. Everyone goes around calling people "friends" but Days is the only game where you actually feel that it's earned and not just meaningless
>gameplay is supposed to be bad to convey feelings to the player
lmao no, this is never the case and always some bullshit but your opinion I suppose. It's not like this game is too much worse than the other side games.
And it has the best main character in the whole series.
Chain of Memories is also pretty good. Seeing a pattern here?
exactly
which is stupid because none of the characters are actually human beings
>feel that it's earned and not just meaningless
It's not.
All both Xion and Axel did where keep secrets from Roxas and be at odds constantly while Roxas was just being confused all the way through.
HPO were better wag friends to Roxas than Axel and the puppet.
Days is actually the ultimate pleb filter, it is insane
Anyone who says Days is bad doesn't actually appreciate KH games and only plays them for shallow reasons. It confirms they don't have an opinion worth anything significant
Only good gameplay element it did well was the Panel System.
playing as the Organization 13 members was cool
Well if we are going off of what eventually is revealed, that anyone can regrow a heart, then 358 becomes a fine entry for Axel, and Roxas starting to become something more through friendship. At one point they basically even talk about having feelings, I forget exactly though. They just don't acknowledge it as being a feeling of the heart.
>It's actually the only game in a series about friendship where you see a friendship developing, growing and ending.
True. Also cringe dialogue half the time aside they do feel like real people when they’re not all laughing. Days is severely underrated if it wasn’t on a DS it would’ve been one of the best, sucks we get cucked out of a remake for KH3.
What do you all think of this?
>Sora is announced for Smash
>Alongside Sora, they release a special edition of "KH:Story so far" that has Re:Coded and 358/2 days have their gameplay remastered and playable for the switch port of Story so far since they were Nintendo exclusives?
>you now remember re-coded
This was not the case in 358 but it 100% was in the tutorial for KH2, the second you lose Roxas you gain a bunch of shit that makes combat more smooth to emphasize how much better sora is with the keyblade
Coded did it better.
The sad thing is it was a basically irrelevant game. You got some nice insight into how Org XIII works but it did nothing to progress the story as the events were already written in CoM/KH2.
As such it cheapens KH3's story somewhat with them having to bring Xion back out of nowhere just so it actually needed a reason to exist.
Agreed
And yet brainlet kh fans will still trash on it
Days story is pretty good for character development for Roxas and Axel, but Xion is such a terrible character
>The secret 14th member of Organization 13
>Also everyone loses their memories of her and that's why no one talks about her
give me a fucking break this fan fiction levels of bad, and KH is already fan fiction enough as is, its like fan fiction of fan fiction
I disagree but Coded’s was good
It's definitely the better written game of the ones after 2 (including 2); but I think 1 and Chain of Memories are more compelling as videogame writing. 358/2 makes up for the filler very well though.
Yeah and also in CoM the darkness as Riku seems to be much stronger from the get go but the light as Sora is far stronger late game as he gets moves like lethal frame. That's different from a game purposefully being bad to convey some feeling, I just hate that. It's lazy, I don't think a game is ever trying to purposefully be a slog to play.
thatd be too good to be true
Chain of Memories had much better writing, well the GBA version at least, where they didn't have to conform to Japanese lipflaps.
The 3D remakes of both CoM and Days worsened the writing.
It's telling that the games without voice acting have the best writing.
It's not bad it's boring and repetitive. Do you think a game must be fun to be good? It's not capable of covey anything else to the player except mindless fun even when part of the premise of the story is that it's not fun for the main character?
Never played Coded, but wtf is this image of?
Xemnas does point out to Roxas that Xion was never a real member of the organization by rethorically asking him to count their seats
The panel system.
You get a computer board like panels and by installing chips/panels you gain over the course of the game you can unlock all kinds of wacky shit and mods.
>Never played Coded
Play it now user
Its of the Panel System, something both Days and Coded utilize, it’s basically all your levels items magic etc and you set them yourself
Rather than like most KH games where you level up and the stats work themselves out, in Days and Coded you have 100% control over what level you want to be and where your stats go.
It's a minigame in itself balancing how you want to play. Being low level but having tons of magic might be more ideal in some situations etc.
Coded turned this system more into a boardgame but let you modify how enemies behaved too.
Only played 1 and 2, which game has the best magic system? I loved spamming the shit out of spells in kh1, but then 2 came along and made it worse.
BbS encourages it as doing so changes your forms/styles which makes things quite fun.
If you’re brainless and love spamming broken magic then KH3 since you get rewarded heavily for spamming it with relatively no MP cost if you have a few accessories. BBS magic is also broken but a lot different from KH1 and KH2.
I think with CoM you can make an entire deck out of magic, but as of satisfaction, I think 1 is the only one that does it. Every other game has some sort of timed downtime which can be solved by sitting around.
Oh my, you opened the can of worms of the necessity of entertainment in art. Hundreds of years of discussion are upon us!
I do think a game must be fun to be good, yes. You can go in depth about scenes, character interactions, and worldly implications all day. I love that. But a video game should always be fun to play and have good engaging gameplay. It's like I don't watch a fucking action movie or read a thriller novel to be bored either, the MC may be going through some trials and having a tough time but I'm engaged and interested and enjoying the story all the same. In video games if you aren't having a good time playing it then it is worth little. I think 358 rather has shit boring gameplay, I think saying it does that on purpose to convey something to the player is just nonsense and damage control. And why would you be surprised anyway? It's a handheld game and came out a while ago.
There was a rerelease of everything you needed in KH: The Story So Far so you only need a PS4, it even includes DDD in HD

It's actually 2.
LETS EAT SOME ICE CREAM
WE ARE BEST FRIENDS
YOU ARE RIGHT
HA HA HA HA
Gameplay is overrated because everything plays the same on a conceptual level within genres. It never hold significance and needs to be nothing more than functioning to be good
Actually, they did had plans to remake it, but the lost the source code for kh1 so all the development time for 1.5 went in recreating the game again from the ground up.
Remaking days isn't that much of an issue anyway since they already have the engine, music and models from other Kh games already.
>BBS
>downtime
lmao
You can literally just stand in one place and kill an infinite number of regular enemies with your eyes closed by endlessly chaining Magnega and Thundaga.
I wish Osaka team actually learned something about Recoded and applied it to BBS and DDD
the balance on the former shits on the later games
This might be one of the worst posts intended to be taken seriously I've read on this website.
You do have to wait if all the spells go out, specially if the spells are powerful, no? Although I don't quite minmax.
Not with maxed out magic haste and a full deck, no.
For the third time, i did not say that it does it on purpose, i said that it's probably unintentional but i still personally consider it a good thing regardless of that. It becomes subjective at this point but i would rather take a game that is memorable for it's internal coherency and dedication to a theme in both content and presentation over something that is mindlessly fun and that i can forget about as soon as it ends. I wouldn't mind getting bored if it's what the author is trying to make me feel to get a point across or if it makes me appreciate more the meaning of a game, movie or novel. Regardless of SE failing at making the game fun i still think it helps me empathize with Roxas a lot by being a chore but i'm not saying that's what it's supposed to be for everyone
Thank you for playing my game.
thats not bbs
So this is how much you have to delude yourself to think that days is good.
What a horrifying sight.
Too bad it doesn't let you use it. Gotta go through 5 more gimmick worlds.
I hate everything about what KH has become but I will admit that one line had more SOUL than the entirety of KH3. It basically shows you just how broken and pathetic of a nonperson Roxas is.
Femdom Hearts is RIGHT!!!
Is the game as bad as people say? I want to play it, but it's considered the worst game in the series.
>Said posting a picture of the worst game in the series beside 3D
Only KH game I actually played all the way through and really liked it.
Really couldnt into the others
Are you implying that KH3 is worse than days or literally any other non-numbered kh?
That's what i heard too before playing it and realizing it's the best one apart from the PS2 games
I was referring to BBS
Its the only one i played besides the original
I didnt understand a lot of it but I still cried at the end
you may have a point about the conceptual bit but you're still dead wrong
Sounds a bit delusional to me but whatever, I still like the story.
These are the kind of people that think days is good so let that answer your question.
Play it and form your own opinion, but there's also a movie version available too.
No that would be BBS
So Roxas had to fight Xion because she was taking strength and memories from Roxas thus halting Sora's recovery right?
What about CoM though? That game oozes soul from every pixel, it's almost therapeutic.
She wanted to return to Sora and forced Roxas to kill her so that he would remain the only keyblade wielder in the Org.
Wasn't she also taking strength away from Roxas too?
Yes
