I kinda disagree about 5, I think it would have been a far better paced game and it was looking to emphasize less on just action set-pieces and would have been more inspired by 4 in its pacing (a good balance of atmospheric slow paced combat and more actiony sections with the occasional light puzzle). Instead it's mostly just one action set-piece after another.
Gears just had to come along though and ruin everything though, guarantee Capcom executives mandated co-op right when development was starting to go full steam ahead and the rest is history. I think 6 was doomed from the start though, Capcom was at the height of shit when that game started development.
