There is absolutely no plane behind you when the missile is fired, it appears from thin air at your 4 o'clock the moment it fires.

You're going to be switching squadmates constantly so don't expect to get attached. The old man is behind everything along with a Belkan pedophile. The final mission is you killing two drones that move great but nothing QAAMs can't handle. Also you fly into the space elevator via a tunnel and save the day.

Someone pointed out to me the other day that if you look right behind you when this happens, there's an F/A-18F that suddenly starts flying in formation that wasn't there before and wasn't doing anything during the initial encounters, just flying in a circle at the corner of the map
It's a drone mimicking your IFF. Just like the ones you encounter later. Same aircraft model, too. It flies around doing nothing up until you're defending the president and then it flies in formation with you and shoots the missile that kills Harling.
I don't know why this is never brought up again because it's fucking brilliant when you look at it from the context of the rest of the game

This is also why if you don't do anything, don't touch any weapons and don't even get near the president; the missile still hits him anyway. It was never you that fired it.

Even with the unrealistic amount of missiles to begin with, that should make it obvious it's not Trigger who pulled the trigger.

I wish this game had more "endgame" weapons, even if they were only available for campaign mode. Whenever I got my first PLSL-equipped aircraft it was a joy because the damn thing is so powerful I was excited to see where it would go from there, but it never really did go anywhere.

Don't modern fighters have built in gun cameras or some other way of keeping a record of when their missiles or other weapons are fired? It's hard to believe that Trigger was tried and convicted just because "he was the closest" and that nobody even bothered to examine his plane to verify the accusations.

There shouldn't be a cut at all. The drones are deliberately flying behind Mother Goose so if you shoot at them you'd notice Mother Goose going down and only after a short shock via radio chatter it transitions into a cutscene where they try to figure out who it was
