I fucking hate Levine.
Scrapping the game's story six months before release and cobbling together shit from different points in development, and running up the budget to the point making the game made the studio fold, even after it became a critical success lauded as the "Citizen's Kane of video games" for no discernible reason other than the fact that its story left them confused so it's deep.
it is not that bad you try to make it sound
Bioshock was never good
Levine is a hack
It took the terminology "first-person-shooter" quite literally.
Nothing, it's a well designed and fun game. Yea Forums is just filled with a bunch contrarian niggers who autistically nitpick the game for what it should have been.
If I have to hear one of you morons complaining about the siren boss being too hard because you're just too stupid to learn how to use salts I swear to god
FPS with voice lines for the player character. Not in cut scenes but during the gameplay.
Fuck that.
Fucking kill yourself Zoomer
you can literally softlock the game on 1999 mode by playing poorly. and then since there's no saveslots you need to play the whole game over again. even if there is some bullshit tech to get through that segment, it's fucking dumb that if you lose a couple times, the game locks you into a harder version of the fight with no way out. it's not that the fight is too hard, its that it exposes the faults in Infinite's respawn system, to the point where the vast majority of players see their saves broken irrevocably.
the fact that there's a dumb way to cheese the fight and win doesn't change this fact.
>t. shitter
the gameplay
the story
the graphics
ive beaten all the shock games on hardest multiple times. infinite is the worst one, and certain fights in the game, siren included, are broken. if you think 1999 siren is fun, then we have very different definitions of fun.
Name one way that the game improves over the mechanics of the original Bioshock.
You can't. Not only is it less complex, but it adds nothing in compensation. It is an inferior product to a game that is fucking ancient at this point, while professing that it's a superior sequel.
You're a shitter. Get over it
>You can softlock 1999 mode
THATS THE POINT OF IT YOU DUMB NIGGER
>It's not fair that the game gets harder when you fail
Stop being so bad how about?
We're all fine, and only contrarian faggots (most of Yea Forums) consider it to be a bad game. The only issues you niggerfaggots bring up are
>Weeeeelllll... it's doesn't x y or z that my favorite game has so I'm gonna say it's like a 3/10 turd. Also I don't understand this one part of the game, so now it's a 2/10. That's just bad game design because I don't get it
I had an easier time on 1999 mode than hard mode on my first playthrough. It wasn't difficult, just pretty boring and it felt bad to play. It's a shooter where shooting doesn't feel satisfying.
>Name one way that the game improves over the mechanics of the original Bioshock.
Increased movement and fluidity and that gives you more options, limiting your inventory space to include only a few weapons to put pressure on your management skills... a lot of things are better about infinite
>It's a shooter where shooting doesn't feel satisfying
Nice meaningless IGN review
We all understand the story. It's still retarded. It literally makes no sense and is riddled with plot holes. The story was clearly written with the hope/expectation that people would not look to closely at it or try to understand it, because once you try it all falls apart.
And we complain about features/depth that was removed from the original Bioshock games. A weapon wheel adds complexity to the combat. Different ammo types allow for different strategies. There's no strategy in Infinite. There's no reason to conserve resources. There's no reason to use a wide variety of guns. There's no reason to get creative with vigors. It doesn't feel fun to shoot enemies. It doesn't feel fun to slowly run around and scavenge an area. It doesn't feel fun to hide behind cover until shields recharge or Elizabeth throws you some shit. It doesn't feel good to have every important action mapped to the same button.
Calling it 1999 mode was retarded. It was just bullet sponge hitscan enemies with an unbalanced health system.
>it's a well designed and fun game.
Stop, just fucking stop you zoomer fuck
cringe
>Increased movement
Movement is still incredibly slow. In Bioshock 1 and 2 you are running around tight corridors and relatively small rooms. In Infinite you are fighting in wide open spaces with only a few points of cover that you need to stay near constantly. Ziplines are fun for the first five minutes but don't add much to the combat. Unless you have the winter shield, in which case every encounter with ziplines becomes a complete non-threat.
There's no pressure on inventory management because you simply pick up the best guns when you find them. There is a very clear tier list of which guns are the best and which ones suck. There is never a reason to pick up the weapons on the bottom of the tier list. In Bioshock 1 and 2 even at the end of the game the pistol and machine gun serve an important purpose by letting you avoid spending more valuable ammo on weak encounters. You also had way more resources to manage and you didn't get them for free.
Name one thing about Infinite that is better than Bioshock. It's literally just "you can jump in the air and go fast", which doesn't add to the gameplay at all because you never had a problem with mobility in the original games.
It doesn't though. Even games like Mass Effect where the shooting is not the primary gameplay have guns with more visual/auditory feedback.
>Having both weapon upgrades and a 2 weapon limit.
I don't mind the weapon limit that much but it shouldn't be combined with weapon upgrades that reward sticking to one weapon. The gameplay should be focused on picking up new weapons on the fly.
Also the ending is shit.
>"ooh boy I have to hide behind this wall until my shield regenerates, it's just like 1999!"
were the devs actually retarded?
Once again
>Well it doesn't do x, y, or z like my favorite game so it sucks
The point of getting rid of the weapon wheel and inventory space was to make the gameplay more fast paced
>There's no strategy in infinite
No you just suck at the game
>There's no reason to conserve resources
To fight enemies, dumbass.
>There's no reason to get creative with vigors
Now you're just lying
>It's doesn't feel fun to gore enemies and blow them apart
You're definitely lying , ot just that much of a biased retard. Actually, biased retard sounds more plausible coming from the guy who thinks that removing the ability to be a walking weapons vault means there is no longer any "strategy to the game"
>It doesn't feel fun to slowly run around and scavenge an area.
Oh God 5 seconds of scavenging in Infinite instead of scavenging constantly for the whole game in Bioshock 1 and 2 because they're also fucking survival horror games. Fucks sake user
>It doesn't feel fun to hide behind cover until shields recharge or Elizabeth throws you some shit.
Oh noes, a different method of tanking. user , does this scare you? A sign of autism perhaps...
>It doesn't feel good to have every important action mapped to the same button.
It's not
>THATS THE POINT OF IT YOU DUMB NIGGER
Kill yourself you retarded fuck, 1999 mode is fucking absolute trash not even including what that user is talking about
>racist paradise
>it's full of black people for labor even though people have steampunk machines and magic powers
>no one says nigger
Hmm.
>shoot the shit out of enemies
>they take barely any damage
that's when shooting doesn't feel satisfying you pedantic fuck
>God I have the ability to completely mow down enemies with magical powers while my health has a regenerating shield that protects it and a magical wizard daughterfu who can summon weapons, health, and allies from another dimensions
>Uuuuugggggghhhhh why are these enemies do hard to kill, like they just have so much health
You have no idea how over powered you are because you suck at the game
>1999 mode
>2 weapon limit
>low ammo count
>shield
yes
Wait a minute, that card..
Bad game :^)
>Not even including
I'm going to make this very simple for you
It's. Meant. To. Make. Progression. Harder.
Fucking moron, that does in fact talk about his bullshit criticism. The mode isn't trash, you are trash.
Here's what that means
>I can't hit headshots and baby around enemies peaking from the corner, why doesn't every genetically modified soldier I come across die with only a few bullets
I found the combat more engaging. Less micromanaging ammo and weapons and more action.
>It's. Meant. To. Make. Progression. Harder.
Except it's not hard, it's a fucking boring grind. You do realize you're arguing with more than one person right? 1999 mode is fucking dogshit and a horrid "progression" stop defending objectively bad game design.
>Here's what that means
>I can't hit headshots
stop projecting you fucking baby, you know goddamn well the enemies are bullet sponges and it only gets worse the higher the difficulty.
Nothing went wrong. Based game.
Also reminder that the so praised Bioshock 2 made by another studio was nothing but a lazy dupe of the first that would have been shitted on if it was releasing today.
discount David Duchovny
songbird didn't go anywhere and fuck that last "boss" fight
>In Bioshock 1 and 2 you are running around tight corridors and relatively small rooms
At a slower creeping pace because theyre goddamn survival horror games. Think about that. No, tighter environments does not mean faster gameplay
>Okay ziplines aren't even that fun
Again, biased retard. Yes it does make the game more fun being able to skyline and zip around the map constantly on hooks or a rail, it gives you a lot of options.
>Only if you have the winter shield
Like I said, its always some bullshit nitpicking crap you people complain about.
>There's no pressure on inventory management because you simply pick up the best guns when you find them
Which depends on the level, how you upgrade them, what you're most skilled with, what has the most ammo, what combos best with your salt abilities... yes there is inventory management it's just faster paced and more dependant on the environment
>There is a very clear tier list of which guns are the best and which ones suck.
Not really
>Name one thing about Infinite that is better than Bioshock.
I've listed several, once again, you autists are just mad it isn't "underwater survival horror game 3"
>Even games like Mass Effect where the shooting is not the primary gameplay have guns with more visual/auditory feedback.
I can't even... you're just stupid
>was to make the gameplay more fast paced
Well it failed miserably.
In Bioshock if I need a new weapon I just quickly switch to it.
In Infinite if I need a new weapon I look away from the combat, run towards a weapon on the ground, equip it, and then resume shooting.
In Bioshock if I get injured I pop a first aid kit and keep going.
In Infinite if I get injured I hide behind cover and slowly wait for my shields to recharge, then head towards the nearest health kit or wait for Elizabeth to give me something.
It is objectively slower.
>you just suck
And you have no arguments, so fuck off zoomer.
>To fight enemies
Even if I use all my salts Elizabeth will just give me more for free. Even if I save my ammo I'll just find a better weapon soon anyway. So what incentive is there to conserve anything?
>Now you're just lying
You're right, there's a very good reason to get creative with vigors: the achievement. Otherwise it's just a waste of salts. Only a couple vigors are ever useful.
>You're definitely lying , ot just that much of a biased retard
Avoiding the issue. Infinite doesn't have satisfying combat because enemies are damage sponges and there's little impact when you shoot them. Additionally the weapons are quiet and don't feel heavy at all.
> 5 seconds of scavenging in Infinite instead of scavenging constantly for the whole game
It takes longer than 5 seconds just to walk from one end of an area to the other in Infinite.
>Oh noes, a different method of tanking
user... that's not what tanking is.
>It's not
Let's count the actions for the square button: interacting with objects, reloading, opening containers, picking up items, taking items from Elizabeth, picking up weapons, opening tears, and controlling Songbird. That's a total of eight actions at once all crammed onto a single button. That is godawful design. Especially since the melee and crouch buttons are almost entirely unused.
Well I enjoyed it immensely. Obviously it wasn't even close to what was promised but still a nice piece of entertainment.
Then again, I'm one of those faggots who play games only to see the story unfold and whack through the unavoidable combat parts on easy difficulty. Take from that what you will.
>Except it's not hard, it's a fucking boring grind.
Because you suck at the game. Yeah. I know.
You do realize you're arguing with more than one person right?
Yup
>1999 mode is fucking dogshit
No you're just too bad at the game to quickly kill enemies. You suck.
>and a horrid "progression" stop defending objectively bad game design.
It's not.bad game design, you just suck at the game. Get over it
>Nice projection
It's not projection when you're complaining about the game being "grindy" you fucking moron
the main problem for me was the gameplay that only let you use 2 kind of weapons, i hate FPS that do this shit
>Look m8 u got all this great weapons but you can only carry 2 lol
But that's literally just Bioshock 1 combat without any of the complexity of resource management. It's okay to dislike resource management, but it's still gameplay. In Infinite they took out that gameplay and replaced it with... nothing. If they wanted to make the shooting better that would be one thing, but the shooting is exactly the same. If they made it more like Call of Duty or any popular shooter, that would have been something. But nothing is changed, except that most of the complexity has been removed. They didn't make it a better shooter, they made it 'just' a shooter.
Make some webums of high level Bioshock Infinite gameplay then.
the shooting isn't exactly the same, and the enemies and environments are very different, changing the way the combat works.
In Bioshock 1 it was mostly just standing in a corridor shooting splicers that try to melee you. In Infinite all the enemies have guns. It's more about using the rails to move to advantageous positions.
>Well it failed miserably
No it worked great. You're a biased moron who just wants this game to be a copy of Bioshock 2 and who sucks at the game.
>In Bioshock if I need a new weapon I just quickly switch to it.
Which is boring
>In Infinite if I need a new weapon I look away from the combat, run towards a weapon on the ground, equip it, and then resume shooting.
Which is fun and chaotic because it forces you to adapt to the environment
>If I get injured in Bioshock I can spam health kits
Oh yeah that's so much fun. No really, I really feel the consequences of fucking up and can't just spam them and tank whatever I want
>But in infinite you are to take cover and scavenge health
*gasp* how terrible, now I can't just spam med kits
>It is objectively slower
Topkek. Nope. Not even a bit. You just suck at the game and have pretty much just admitted to being a corner peekimg scrub instead of a run and gun chad
>And you have no arguments,
No, you're admitting that you suck at the game. It's a valid argument.
>Oh man baseball sucks, how do I bit the ball
>Idk, git gud and it's pretty fun
>Nah man baseball sucks, I wish it was like football
That's you right now.
>Even if I use all my salts Elizabeth will just give me more for free
if you want to wait like 10 minutes while getting fired at instead of just fucking killing guys and moving your strategy to melee and gunplay instead?
>Even if I save ammo I might find a better weapon
With how much ammo facing what kind of enemy? Sometimes you choose the shitty weapon with more ammo over the volleygun or something. It depends on th scenario.
>Only a couple vigors are ever useful.
This is why I know you suck at the game, toplel
>At a slower creeping pace because theyre goddamn survival horror games
Yes, and like most survival horror games they had very barebones combat. Which is fine. Infinite took out all the survival horror mechanics. Also fine. But they kept the barebones shooting mechanics exactly the same as they were. They didn't make it faster. They didn't make it smoother. It's the exact same gameplay from Bioshock 1, there's just less of it.
>Yes it does make the game more fun being able to skyline and zip around the map constantly on hooks or a rail
You mean travel around on a loop to kite enemies.
>it gives you a lot of options.
Not on 1999 with autoaim disabled. The one good thing it gives you is winter shield, which makes the game a complete joke.
>Like I said, its always some bullshit nitpicking crap you people complain about.
Having any sense of threat for half the fights in the game removed as it becomes a tedious slog to slowly whittle down enemy health while jumping on and off skylines is more than a minor complaint. Winter shield breaks the game. If there's a skyline in the area then there's absolutely zero danger from any of the enemies. Once you figure that out then the game is completely ruined.
>Which depends on the level, how you upgrade them, what you're most skilled with, what has the most ammo, what combos best with your salt abilities
And none of that shit matters because the sniper rifle, the handcannon, the volley gun, and the vox SMG are hyper accurate and deal ridiculous damage, so you always want to use those guns. That's obvious from the first time you pick them up. There's no reason to upgrade anything else until you're overflowing with cash. Same with vigors, there's no reason to upgrade anything besides possession. Can you make other builds work? Can you beat 1999 with only the pistol? Sure, I guess. But why would you?
>just mad it isn't "underwater survival horror game 3"
I'm mad that it isn't anything else either.
>Infinite doesn't have satisfying combat because enemies are damage sponges and there's little impact when you shoot them.
No you just don't know how to combo, aim, move... really you just kind of suck. You've admitted as much to me multiple times
>The weapons are quite
Nope
>And don't "feel heavy"
Oh God... stop saying that because it means nothing.
>for the square button:
Ohh why am I not suprised? You're complaining about consoles now fuck off
How is the game faster than Bioshock 1? Provide an actual reason and convince me you're not a troll.
I liked it, stay mad
>But they kept the barebones shooting mechanics exactly the same as they were.
No they didn't you just didn't bother to explore the game mechanics at all. Fuck me man, this is getting hard to bear.
>You mean travel around on a loop to kite enemies
No , I mean quickly going from point a to b while being chased by superhuman soldiers falling from the sky or teleporting around you, allowing you to quickly change your positing or recover from being flanked or inured
>Not on 1999 mode with no auto aim
Especially on 1999 mode with no auto aim the fuck are you talking about
>The freeze clothing option
Never used it really, I liked the knockback one better because it combos well with the vampire melee option and crow traps
>Having any sense of threat for half the fights in the game removed as it becomes a tedious slog to slowly whittle down enemy health while jumping on and off skylines
Once again, you're proving that you just suck at the game. Why are you going with the most meaningless brainlet tier strategy with all the options you're given? I can't even...
>Winter shield breaks the game
Not really , of you don't remember it does have a very large range, doesn't last that long, and is only useful in certain areas
>That list of weapons
Holy shit, you're not kidding about being a corner peaker? Shotgun and carbine rifle. Try it out sometime once you learn how to aim. There are way better combos than what you listed by miles, especially if you consider your vigor options.
Like I said, skylines and hooks mean quickly going from point a to b while being chased by superhuman soldiers falling from the sky or teleporting around you, allowing you to quickly change your positing or recover from being flanked or inured. You're playing game where you constantly have to be looking for new weapons to meet new combat scenarios that have multiple different combinations between your shooting style, your weapon choice, your vigor choice, and the environmental interactions with Elizabeth. Constantly.
Bioshock 1 and 2 were survival horror games more about methodically planning and preparing for everything, infinite is about constantly adapting.
>having 2 guns if funnier than having an entire arsenal anytime you want
not him but you are a fucking retard if you think that unironically, Max Payne 3 did that same shit and it sucked compared to the first two
Skyhooks were a great idea but weren't implemented enough.
It was better than Bioshock 1. Although the first game wasn't particularly good anyway.
Didn't play Max Payne 3 actually, but it works great in infinite because you are constantly around weapons and always have back up combat options in case you run out of ammo. You can adapt in so many ways
>Not utilizing great concepts such as Vigor junkies, toy maker etc
>Not utilizing sky-rails to their fullest extent. In the 2011 demo, they built the area around the hook rails. They had A LOT of verticality and the enemies used them way more aswell, soaring through the sky. The final game does not take advantage of this.
>Elizabeth being able to use tears without limit. The Demo also showed had a limit on how fast you could make Elizabeth use tears so there was more strategy to the game-play instead of just spamming tears.
>Enemies are very basic. None of the enemies that use vigors use them in any meaningful way and can be defeated with just a pistol. There's no strategy needed. The crow vigor user doesn't even use crows to swarm you, he just turns into a crow and flies in a straight path.
>vigors are pretty lame. They needed to overhaul the plasmid system and create something that had a lot of depth but instead we ended up with just a list of things to throw or shoot out of our hands. It worked for bioshock 1 but not for infinite.
And much more.
Basically, just take a look at what the 2011 demo was, and that's what the game should of ended up being. A game that had HUGE areas, with verticality, choices and adaptive enemies that could call in reinforcements or Zeppelins. I honestly pay full retail price for the demo alone. That one area looks better than anything from the final game. It's also funny how they use vigor junkies for the dlc and not the original game.
>Bioshock 2 receives no praise despite being the objectively best entry in the series
>Bioshock Infinite gets constant praise despite being a hunk of shit
All I wanted was a sequel where you could run around and drill things to death. Instead we got wibbly wobbly time plots and a two weapon limit.
>Because you suck at the game. Yeah. I know
See there you go projecting again, do you have any arguments past mindless projection?
And going from point A to point B is still slower overall than it was in Bioshock 1 because it takes time to get on/off the skyline and the areas are way bigger.
Constantly looking for new weapons instead of simply switching to them makes the game slower, not faster.
Stopping the action so that Elizabeth can throw you a health kit instead of just using one makes the game slower.
Bioshock 1 and 2 were survival horror games more about methodically planning and preparing for everything, infinite is about constantly adapting.
This is true. The problem is that they didn't add anything to the basic gameplay to make adapting more complex or fun. It's literally just taking the worse bits of Bioshock and making a game out of them.
Basically
>They could've done more
Sure but it's still a good game.
idk, I just wasn't a fan of the world desu
Columbia wasn't half as interesting as Rapture
Through Rapture we could see the ancap levels of freedom people had and how it lead to the downfall of the place. Rapture was a cool place, you could feel the draw of the city under the sea. Its characters were portrayed as flawed humans with grand visions of this freedom blinding them from the madness that takes over. I also had a massive crush on the little sisters when I was little so that probably biases my opinion
Columbia is really just a floating chunk of the Confederacy, something pretty familiar to me. It doesn't really have a central thing and juggles a lot of smaller things. Was it about racism? a little bit. a society with strict roles can be stable as well as oppressive? kinda. The permanence of the past? a tad. Was it about the multiverse? Maybe I'm just a brainlet but I wasn't getting much out of that part.
Feels like they put a bunch of kinda interesting ideas in the same box and hoped they would sort themselves out, I don't think they did.
Alone, the game is pretty good in my opinion, but when put alongside the original shocks it feels like an unfocused attempt.
>Complains about a game that gives you arguably overpowered abilities and combos
>Says it's grindy bullshit
>Expects people who know about thes options to not say he sucks
Not projecting. You suck at the game.
>And going from point A to point B is still slower overall than it was in Bioshock 1
Because
>because it takes time to get on/off the skyline in larger areas
Which takes .5 seconds and allows you to move through larger areas at 3 times the pace you would in Bioshock 1 or 2. Wow.
>Constantly looking for new weapons
*while you're in combat and which takes .5 seconds again*
>instead of simply switching to them makes the game slower, not faster.
No, it actually makes the gameplay more demanding and faster because you aren't pausing the game going into your inventory all the time?
>Stopping the action so that Elizabeth can throw you a health kit instead of just using one makes the game slower.
Except you're not, you're scavenging health in the environment while you are running around. Stop camping in one area like a little bitch holy shit
>The problem is that they didn't add anything to the basic gameplay to make adapting more complex or fun. It's literally just taking the worse bits of Bioshock and making a game out of them.
You were just talking about things they added in your own paragraph ffs
I don't know. It was my first BioShock and I liked more than 1 and 2 (actually 2 was so boring that I didn't even finish it).
They only focus tested it on frat boys. Seriously.
Not just that they couldn't done more but that they could have put effort into literally anything that wasn't narrative based. A lot of the game feels like a byproduct of the medium. There's enemies because there has to be. Because it's a game. They completely neglected so many aspects of the gameplay that i can't help but feel sick when I see the final product then watch the demo.
What's worse is having Ken talk about the narrative importance of the sky-hooks to the world of infinite then completely neglect it gameplay wise. He made it seem like a bigger deal then it was.
It is grindly bullshit, disprove me
It's not this game.
youtube.com
I rally just wanted to explore Rapture more. There's so much background stuff going on in 1&2. Look out of a window, what do you see? Crumbling, ancient shallowscrapers barely held together by near-feral big daddies, festooned with mold and rust, filled to the brim with insane, genetically twisted abominations.
What feels better to shoot? a random cop who's just doing his job? Or a drug-addicted insane mass-murderer in a crow mask?
Rapture has atmosphere. It's one of my favourite locations in any game. I've forgotten the name of the floating city because it's just...kinda dull. Look out of a window, what do you see? Oh. Clouds. neat.Oh, look. More clouds.
Not enough focus on Liz.
