Are you serious? Flash Bomb, Ice Wave, Astro Crush, and arguably Homing Sniper are good weapons, not as good as 9 and 11's weapons but still better than a lot of the other classic games.

and mega man 8 playing it safe is just incorrect when it’s the title that’s notorious for being so different. it’s packed full of wacky gimmicks and questionable changes (no rush coil or jet but a fucking motorcycle) and finally introduced the quick-swapping for the classic series. not even mentioning including voice acting and fully animated cutscenes.

I think he means in terms of overall quality of the games. People experience varying levels of enjoyment (if any at all) for X6-X8 at the least. BN on the other hand is pretty consistently good outside of 1 being a prototype and 4 being what it is, though I don't really mind 4 that much. 5 is a toss up, mostly because if you don't like the strategy board game part you won't like the game very much.

I'm pretty sure once you get the Z-saber you can go back to the stages to get the upgrades
