First time playing SMT IV and also my first SMT game, what are some tips and advices i should be aware off?
I never beat the game, only got about 10 hours in. My advice to you is to don't main demons, mix and match them as much as possible.
Abuse the fuck out of elemental weaknesses
Make lots of friends
Then fuse them
Always
Be
Fusing
Do not invest in STR. If you want to use physical skills, invest in DEX instead.
For some asinine reason, STR only scales your basic sword attack. DEX is for physical skills.
Buffs/debuffs are super useful
Remember to have good variety of elemental attacks and defenses. Game is quite easy but having all demons using the same elemental spells or being weak to the same element can fuck you up.
Don't go strength, it barely affects your phys skills, and you will be using skills mostly
/vg/ also has some useful advice
Magic all the way
Get demons for physical, Healing, Magic, and support.
-Don't try to stick with demons in early game. The more they level up the harder it is to get higher levels with them, so fuse them away or get more demons through negotiation to fuse them away into stronger demons.
-THAT said, Lham Dearg, a very early demon, has phys resistance, which is very rare for low level demons, so keeping it around might actually be used for a certain early boss.
-DON'T start negotiations when there's more than one enemy demon alive. SMTIV has very low hp and defense stats compared to other games in the franchise in order to make the battles faster, but as a result things can finish in a flash one way or another. If the negotiation goes badly, the enemies get one free turn which might be enough to kill your party if there are multiple enemies around.
- Don't put points into STR
- The first dungeon is the hardest in the game, so don't give up that fast (since this game becomes fucking fantastic later on)
- Finding the enemies weakness is your top priority, because you want to get as many extra turns as possible
- A lot of dialogue choices will push your alignment into one or the other direction, be wary of that
Enjoy the ride
The strength stat is busted. It only determines most of the damage for the generic attack command. Attack Skills use Dex with str only as a secondary stat, and those are the ones you likely will be using most of the time even if you go physical rather than magic focused.
Also to help with negotiations. Kill all the demons you don't want so you won't get raped with there free turn. Then talk to them. BUT watch out demons are little jews, they will ask you for shit like items, Hp, mp, and etc. They will run off with your shit
Will the STR stat also boost the normal gun attack dmg, or does it only boost normal melee attack damage?
Demons are not your friends
Don't keep them for too long as they will become more difficult to level up exponentially
Fuse fuse fuse
STR boosts the basic sword attack
DEX is for physical skills + gun attacks and skills
Try to memorize the map layout,it will help you greatly later on
You can evolve demons of Divine Race when they reach certain level
You can use status effects to negotiate with demons, like charmed female demons are more likely to join you for free
Negotiation apps and HP/SP recovery apps will help you greatly
Don't try to get neutral ending on your first playthrough
>tfw got lost in ikebukuro and quit
this don't get attached like me...even if it is to this sexy motherfucker
Never give demons money, and you usually have 2 or 3+ chances to refuse a demon item request if I remember correctly
Currently playing this on Citrus. How can I see weakness of monster like in Persona?
There should be an option that says analyse
have ice magic on your MC. you can thank me later.
dont be a little when demons ask for something. its ok to say no.
Either Y or X
>Never give demons money
Bad advice.
try and be neutral so you can get the most out of this game. look up a guide for that.
Save before the Minotaur boss and reload until Jonathan is your partner.
Dex, Luck, And WORLD OF STRENGTH are the only Stats you need to focus on Late game you can focus on Magic but don’t on early or Mid game. Fuse your Monster but always gets whispers from them before you even consider fusion
Both wrong. A demon asking for money will almost always fuck you over. But certain items, mainly Life Stones, are almost always safe to give. Asking for Life/MP specifically is a pretty even split, but if they're vague and just say they want "that" it usually works out.
Once you get past Naraku, google a map, you will be glad. Fuse your demons and change your armor to deal with elements. Now leave the thread before you get spoiled.
Side with Walter
What is the relation between SMTIV and Apocalypse?
Apocalypse is a direct sequel to SMT IV, but ONLY to neutral path. SMT IV has few endings, depending on which route you take.
>always get whispers
Whats that?
Leveling a demon up enough to learn every skill it has will let you pick a few of those skills for your dude. If a demon has a skill you already know, that skill will get boosted to become cheaper to use (and stronger?), so they're still useful.
I can't remember if this is immediately a thing or it has to be unlocked by progressing past a point, but it's pretty early in the game either way.
It's shit. Replay Persona 4 instead
>Playing Persona.
Buffs and debuffs matter.
THIS is the most important thing OP, STR is literally useless in SMT IV, do not EVER put one pip into that bar, if you want to have stronger phys skills, put everything into DEX
SMT is always about order vs chaos and how finding a balance between the two, despite being the most preferable option, is the hardest to get. If you're going for the balance ending you WILL need a guide, full stop. The game DOES NOT tell you what decisions put you on which path 80%of the time.
You have to be beyond overleveled for an area to be safe from death, because enemies can and will take advantage of elemental weaknesses and they also get extra turns when they do that.
This is an extremely difficult JRPG. In the beginning recovering MP will be extremely difficult, make sure you save up enough Burroughs points to unlock the ability that lets you recover MP just by walking ASAP.
From my own experience, if you dont care about alignments and want to see everything the game has to offer, one should go Law, then Chaos, then Neutral(the White may be done at any moment)
Skills that do damage get stronger
Skills that dont get cheaper by one point for each whisper.
Whispers dont need to be unlocked, they just happen, obviously early game wont happen that much because it takes a while to max those demons.
>WORLD OF STRENGHT
Bad advice, STR is useless as said several times in the thread, you have to go for WORLD OF DEX if you want that.
Go full mag
go full dex
In my experience giving demons money almost always makes them run off with your shit, even if you feel like its an insignificant amount
>Don’t any route but pure evil on your first play through
>Spend all your money before the black rider bossfight (only leave enough to payoff Charon once).
Never dump into str, pump into dex if you're going for non magic, str stat is bugged
I got neutral on my first play through, without a guide. Seems to happen in every single SMT I play.
*Do any route BUT chaos on your first play through, it’s the only one with new demons for ng+
>Don’t any route but pure evil on your first play through
I don't know which route are you talking about
Best way to do negotiations is when the option to End Talks shows up at the bottom, take it. If you do, demons won't run off without joining you more often since you're decisive on i.
It only shows up after going through at least 2 demands of their's, and you can always Refuse at least one. So give if they ask for something small or you can attempt cheating, refuse, then end talks.
