I would say Scorpions biggest problem is Japan, beyond that, Injustice already leave him with a moveset appropriate for all ages, and honestly, without the blood, and the x rays, he is one of the tamest fighters from the original, pre MK 9 games, his attacks are teleportations, punches and hook (barely more violent that the current Smash Villains), and his fatality/final Smash is fire Breath.

He is one of the easiest characters to adapt to Smash, but still, is hard to believe Nintendo would try to sell him to Japan... even though their biggest sells are in the West, and here it would sell like crazy.

I am honestly the only person who wasn't impress with Phoenix Wright moveset in MvC3 and think he would just be a Wii Fit trainer wannabe in smash with and awkward moveset and stage (The Court Room)? The only thing appealing for me about this character as DLC is the music.

That last one is the main character from God Hand, a niche character among niche characters, but he has his cult following among the amateratsu/beautiful joe fans and the Platinum/Clover fans. Still, is not gonna happen, Ammy and Joe are more likely, and there already have low chances over the RE cast, Monster Hunter, DMC and even Phoenix Wright as another Capcom rep. Still, I see why some people may want him.

I'm with this guy on "Mother just has nothing going on, it's a completed franchise, that aside from remakes or the like, probably won't have anything big in its future", so making a big splash about Porky wouldn't work.

But the other thing is... Mother is the kind of series where adding new reps kind of devalues the reps we already have. If it were just Ness, it'd be cool because he's one character doing everything he can to represent the full width and breadth of the series. If it's Ness AND Lucas, it's a little diluted, and creates a sense of want to have all three games get a representative. You add Porky, and suddenly the characters are just standing individually, and it makes the cast feel empty, like Duster and Poo should be there. Less is More, for a series like Mother.

Do I think it’s likely? No. Do I think it’s possible? Yeah. If it were to happen it would be to promote a new Mother release, be it a localization of 3 or a trilogy release. The argument of “it wouldn’t sell” is silly. They only need a few third party characters to sell the pass itself, and with Undertale, LISA and such becoming so popular, people would certainly try out the Mother games. But yeah, nothing’s likely, but it’s still worth discussing because it’s looking more and more possible.

This makes absolutely no sense at all. Duster, Poo and any other side character has no business in Smash. They’re side characters. Porky is the main villain of the franchise, and his inclusion sparks absolutely no thoughts of “but why is ___ not here?”. He’s the only character in the franchise that should be in, aside from Ninten who should just be an alt skin for Ness.

As a Giygas/Gieguefag, I've always thought that giving him tons of weird and different effects on his moves would be a good way to represent his "inexplicable" attacks, he could also use other PSI abilities that are not in smash like PK beam, hypnosis, brainshock, etc.

Travis: Niche that happened to ride an arbitrary wave of popularity. Those happen, then they crash. Some last, some die. Some die for a good 6 years, don't get any real attention not even making top 10 on polls, then a random mii costume brings them back into the folder (Geno)
Steve?: Impossible to ignore what he stands for. He'd have interesting mechanics, but it's the stuff that goes around those mechanics that's questionable. He has no elbows or knees, so it may be hard to believably see him using his more trivial attack options.
Rex/Pyra: Would've been nice, but the time may have passed. Unlike, say, Springman, a sequel to their game likely won't star these characters, so there's no point in trying to cement their stardom.
Reimu: There's a full discussion to be had on what this series should count as, but it's still very niche outside Japan. Not really the best option for an indie pick if one were to go with that.

It's a second party franchise, and one of Nintendo's oldest. It had a solid run in the 00s, but then died. At this point I don't think it has a chance, but if Nintendo really is planning a revival as is rumored, then I think Andy should be cemented in now before his series fades again.

It's a good reminder that the larger part of the Smash community will not know the characters a lot of people in here are suggesting. People really underestimate the bubble of Vidya most Smashers live into, that has lead into them already struggling to recognize a fucking Castlevania character. That's also why Waluigi is so wanted, but people don't want to admit that a character from million sellers Mario spinoffs speaks more to a largely young community of Ninty fans.
That being said, that doesn't discredit their ability to enter the roster at all, just that they should be backed up with strong historic package & relative uniqueness, I'd say. There's enough room to cater to both sides, but it'd be a shame to waste it on someone that looks bland. That's why for example, if we were to get a Resident Evil character, i'd rather root for the lesser important but still fairly iconic Nemesis or Wesker, than Jill, Chris or Leon.

I know who Scorpion is, and in fact most if not all of Yea Forums should know who Scorpion is. My point was that Yea Forums is an exception & one of the most if not the most cultured echo chambers of Smash Bros discussion. The larger part of the Smash community's Vidya knowledge is extremely limited, much more than you may think. I wasn't targetting Scorpion in particular, though.

Popularity shouldn't be the end-all be-all. Joker's inclusion gives me hope for the future selections in that they focus on how much the character and game franchise can bring to Smash, rather than how much it will sell. A character like Reimu, for example, has huge historical importance in vidya, has an incredibly unique moveset prospect, and iconic as fuck music. It's a shame how easily she gets passed up for falling in a niche that lies outside of the general Smash bubble.

Id take Rayman and Crash over her desu but if Shovel Knight is an assist she has no chance of happening anyway

Still, following your logic, there's a large portion of the Smash roster that never would have made it in. Bayonetta, Lucas, the entire Fire Emblem roster, Snake considering he doesn't have much of a history with Nintendo etc. There's no concrete way to make predictions on the roster.
