the addictive nature of warframe comes from slowly unlocking weapons and frames

sure you can just buy them if you want to spend money but you are just hampering your own enjoyment at that point

also prime weapons not in circulation cant be bought outright and you need MR levels to trade/ access them

p2w games feel unfair and bad. But warframe has the most fair p2w system ive seen in a game ever, even more than games like POE which has also received praise for being a good f2p game. The balance between paying players and f2p players is very nicely done, at end game theres no difference between the 2 as you'll eventually reach a point where you will be rolling in plat all day long.

the only things in warframe truly locked behind a paywall is player made skins, and mostly only because a share of the $ goes to them. IF DE wanted to be like other AAA developers they wouldnt even allow you to buy dev made skins with just plat and not real money.

You can't p2w in warfarm, though. The missions are on hard timers. No amount of money will get you through a 5 minute survival faster than 5 minutes, and unless you're fantastically shit you aren't failing it, either. There's really no reason to play the game at all.

What's pay to win about Warframe, though? You can buy frames and weapons, but it's the mods that make any of that actually strong enough to tackle endgame content.

I haven't been keeping up with Warframe for what must be years now, but as far as I recall you can't really pay to get specific mods or upgrade them. Well, not directly. You can no doubt shell out platinum that you can buy and then trade that to other players who have found these mods and upgraded them. But that's several steps removed from the actual payment and in no way what DE spends all its time trying to get you to actually buy. Rather, the game and the store encourage you to pay to be fabulous. The store is always highlighting new weapons and skins and warframes and accessories and being in game further encourages all this as because you see all the other players wearing and using them.

This isn't a judgement on the legitimate or not nature of the payment model, as ever disguising costs behind fake currency is always kind of scummy, but just pointing out that you don't spend money to do better at Warframe. You spend money to look better while doing Warframe.
