not that guy but you couldn't be more wrong. strong balance in enemies and good tools for dealing with weaknesses and strengths are more important that dialogue. there are billions of rpgs that never see the light of day that have good writing but shit gameplay.

Never said that. TTYD is good, so is FFIV. Key thing is that both of those games require next to no grinding as long as you don't run away from every battle like a bitch

It's very lax, and you jump up multiple levels in no time.

Yup, got about 4-5 levels before I took on any of the gang and I still got my ass handed to me. I can't even grind the weaker ones that only have 1/2 per encounter because they'll call for reinforcements if I don't get that RNG crit.

You probably didn't do much exploring and just jumped straight into it.
Also, the early game is a bit slow.

It's easily one of my favorite games ever and even I feel it's like a 8/10 at best. It either clicks with you really hard or it doesn't at all, and that's fine.
