In a hypothetical Nintendo Kingdom Hearts, who are the Donald and Goofy...

Toon Link would be the lead protagonist, since he's the most popular character ever, and never talks so he wouldn't work as a side character like the FF characters were. So the only way around this would be for Nintendo to have him as the protagonist. I'm guessing Ash Ketchum & Princess Zelda would round out the rest of the trio, because Link's foils actually have to talk for the dynamic to work. And most of the iconic Nintendo characters don't speak very much in their games

Link (with Navi as his voice) and Samus would be my picks.

Link stands in as Goofy, being the physically oriented partner, and he does have the Hylian shield. Goofy's special attacks could be roughly emulated by Link's items (Goofy Tornado = Gale Boomerang for example).

Samus is a bit harder sell, but I list her for three reasons:
1. She canonically speaks, and with Link already semi-mute you need someone to carry a conversation with the main character at times. This kinda rules out DK, Kirby, Pokemon, and others.
2. Her beams and various other abilities give her a ranged presence, making her one of the closer options for a mage.
3. She's a major Nintendo character that many people recognize. Granted, the last time she had a hit in a purely first-party game was nearly 15 years ago. More recent IPs like Splatoon or Arms don't have the clout yet to claim icon status.

The big problem with a Nintendo comparison is in Disney cartoons, Donald and Goofy are arguably more well liked characters anyways as Mickey was actually shelved before either of them in the 60s but Mickey has always been the most prominent and more iconic for the brand and they've also been a trio forever.

With Nintendo Franchises, outside of smash, those characters never interact so it hardly makes sense to use somebody that isnt in the same franchise like Mario.

It's not like Kingdom hearts put 2 FF characters in that role
