This game is getting a much needed facelift and the art style suits the game perfectly.

I loved Link's Awakening and I've yet to see anything that makes me want to buy it. It just looks like the same exact game with a different art style, and I don't even think the new look itself even looks bad.

I don't dislike it because its "cute" or " kiddie", I dislike it because its off putting. I think Windwaker and Minish Cap look unique and timeless. The LA remake looks like the kind of lazy trite a Zelda knockoff would go for.

I like some of the environments but others are just wrong and not every character in the game should fit the same style to begin with.
Zelda has always had room for both lighthearted cute stuff and dark and foreboding elements.
So I will probably just play the original if I dont like it as they show more.

After playing LA DX, I think why they're going with that color choice is to make all the underground sections feel universal, which is something I don't like but I can understand why.
Rewatching the remake footage, I've grown to appreciate the art direction they're going with it. LA is an inherently silly game with a subtletly """dark""" undertone slowly progressing as you go on to wake the wind fish, but never to the point where it's overtly depressing. The photographs, all the mario enemies, the songs you get from the Sunfish and Not-Wart, there are a number of lighthearted moments in the game that feels childlike but not in a condescending way. In this context, I do appreciate the toy-like aesthetic of the game, I just hope you can tone down the blur in the borders because it's kinda obnoxious.
Though this image does highlight a big concern I do have with the remake given the footage I've seen and it is the grid based movement. Obviously, the original was also grid-based but it never really felt like it. There were a fuckton of instances that I could moonwalk as link just because I could, and I'm not sure how to elaborate on this. It even made platforming fun, using roc's feather was so fun because it never felt like you had a predetermined arc and thus, you could perform some sick maneuvers like carrying the momentum from dashing with the pegasus boots into a jump. However, the movement in the remake looks strictly grid-based with only 8 directions, and jumps look like they have predetermined arcs. That wouldn't be so much of an issue if it weren't for the fact that LA's overworld fucking SUCKS to backtrack in, so restricting movement like this seems unwarranted and even backwards. However, I'll reserve my judgement until I see more, I'm not excited nor disappointed: just indifferent.
Link's Awakening is probably the best Zelda game though

Inventory management is a fucking bitch and a half because of all the pausing you have to do to configure your A and B button to certain items, which got especially bad by endgame, as well as a shitty overworld and mediocre dungeons, with Eagle Tower being the good exception. The game definitely has charm, but being on a gameboy did restrict it from being a more smoother experience so I can see why they'd remake it.

It's a different charm from the nostalgic pixel style of the original, but a charm nonetheless. desu they already did a straight port on the 3DS, so a remake with a modern artstyle is a good way to bring topdown/Gameboy Zelda to the kids imo
The game was made by A-Team golden age Nintendo and was nearly perfect aside from the shitty Gameboy tech limitations. The limited buttons and screenspace hurt it a lot even though the artwork and area design were perfect.
I think I could deal with everything else shown in the trailer, but this one screen is just such an unacceptable fucking disaster \. I don't know how high my expectations are for this remake,
