Also, people significantly exaggerate the problems of the PC port. I've seen people play it all-vanilla with no issues, on quite underwhelming systems, and with the FAR Mod you can easily run it with some nearly 8yo hardware.

I blame the game's somewhat dated graphics making the world look more depressing and barren than what the devs didn't intend.
It's probably one the few times where a game is enhanced by looking worse, and I'm not talking about low polygon, 8 bit etc, I mean the game was clearly meant to look like a current gen game, but with a low budget, and that somehow enhanced the depressing setting and tone. It made the cutscenes and dialogue interactions a depression cleanser, finally being rewarded with an interaction with a living thing in a dead world, even if it's brief and sometimes a downer.C scenario started to get too depressing even with the cutscenes and dialogue, though.

PC has 2 mods one of which fixes the issues of the bad port (play at 1080p, 60FPS, etc), and the other is a graphics mod that makes the game look stunning.
