Any particular reason this is 42 fucking gigabytes big? Even in 2019 that seems crazy to me.
Still, what am I in for? Hopefully some kino platforming.

Devs are inflating file sizes intentionally to take up space and make you uninstall other games their competing with.
>Any particular reason this is 42 fucking gigabytes big?
Are you fucking stupid?
Because it installs all three games at once and that's pretty small compared to most games nowadays.
You are indeed in for some very comfy collectathon platformers. The first one is best though.
why indeed when Mario Odyssey and BotW, two far bigger and more intensive games are tiny in comparison data wise.
No?
I mean, it's essentially just 3 PlayStation games with a big graphical update and a new soundtrack.
But roms of the first 3 games come to under 5gb...
My guess is because they don't bother to compress anything or save on space?
That doesn't make any sense if you already bought the game, it's not like it has transactions
a trilogy of games with lots of sounds/music files/texture assets vs either of those 2, yeah I think the trilogy being bigger is logical.
I uninstall any game I feel I'm done with. It's not even to free up space, I just don't like having useless shit cluttering up muh games.
>make you uninstall other games their competing with
That makes no sense, user. None.
Nintendo is autistically good at file compression
I mean with this one it makes SOME sense. First divide 42/3. You're looking at about 14 gig per game. On top of this each spyro game doesn't reuse nearly as many assets as other games so each stage has entirely unique asset sets. It still should be smaller and you can blame lack of compression but each game is about 14 gig.
According to an interview, it was the lowest they could compress after being like a TB in size.
1 is great.
2 is meh.
Haven't even bothered with 3 after the quality dip that 2 was.
It's 2 with more characters.
But honestly you're missing out if you skip both. Just don't treat them as the same exact game as 1.
i saw that article too, it was a good laugh
It isn't that they're good at it or they have some technique no one else does. It's purely the fact that Nintendo games usually have more flexible deadlines, allowing them to continue to polish, refine, and optimize until it is as good as it can be. Other developers are forced by their publishers to wrap things up before a specific date. The longer it takes to come out, the more money they lose. That's why games are so big nowadays. Everyone (but Nintendo and a few others) skip that last step of the development phase.
I've been playing the remaster (never played the originals) and 2 is way better than 1 in my opinion.
2 is bogged down with low effort fluff and infinitely worse level design.
The game has literal kill X enemies MMO quests.
i'm not mad at PS4 games for being large, i'm mad that i didn't replace the hard drive it came with as soon as i bought it.
Get an external drive. Best money I spent last year.
