When I first built my pc on a tight budget I got an i3 skylake. I wanna get an i5 but I see the 7th gen i5s around the same price on amazon. I’m thinking about getting the kabylake and flashing my gigabyte z170x BIOS because the 7th gen supports the 1151 sockets but I’m nervous about fucking up my system no matter how easy it is. I haven't upgraded in years and haven't been following GPU developments, but I'm looking to upgrade now. Is the 1660ti the card to get if I'm still a 1080p pleb? It seems like that card will max out pretty much everything at that resolution.

Higher resolutions reduce cpu bottleneck friend. If you're playing a game that an upgrade to a Vega will offer a noticeable difference chances are its a game made in the past few years which means its going to be more cpu intensive.
