What a great game, holy shit.
How do I fill this void in my life now?
What a great game, holy shit
lets have a happy discussion about this masterpiece
Play the rest of the series. Including the spinoffs.
With literally any half decent JRPG
Go play DQXI or something and see what a game with a half decent story is
Or better yet, go hunt down a DS and a copy of TWEWY to see what a better version of P5 looks like
NG+ it and be friends with everyone
Play 3FES and 4 Golden.
Just friends? *3*
If you're like me, you go backwards and play P4 and enjoy that game, then go to P3 and drop it after 30 hours of nothing happening and the characters being downgrades
I remember feeling the same way after finishing this. It was even worse because I beat Breath of the Wild then moved straight onto Persona 5 so for the past month I had been playing the 2 best games I had experienced in years and then all of a sudden it was over. I think Nier Automata is what I eventually filled the gap with.
Same, got 25 hours in P3 and just got bored of it, too repetitive and dull.
I did enjoy the harder fights though.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. Don't @ me.
Well if you wanna date someone sure. But let me know whenI can fuck Yusuke.
I've already beat Nier:A unfortunately
Anyone else is slightly disappointed with Morgana's origin reveal?
Pathetic.
>How do I fill this void in my life now?
Personally, I played NG+ and Persona 3/4
@ (you)
>the characters being downgrades
Are you fucking serious?
>If you're like me, you go backwards
So that's it. You've been conditioned to like non-characters whose only role is to suck your dick. I'm pretty damn sure most people agree that P4's characters are the weakest of the entire series.
Is DQXI worth a play? never touched the series before
>98 hours
Fucking how?
Me honestly, it was kinda underwelming
Even as a long time Dragon Quest fan, I found DQXI underwhelming. Persona 5 is a better game by far.
>only 98 hours
Fucking loser, you're not even done
I had this time for instance because I was playing in bed and fell asleep during ass-long cutscenes. Console was on all night.
Don't respond to the trolls, faggot.
Is it low? I didn't particularly rush anything and didn't skip dialogue. I didn't do any amount of grind either though, it seemed like I was always appropriately leveled and had enough money, so what's the point.
why and how
>I'm pretty damn sure most people agree that P4's characters are the weakest of the entire series.
lmao it must be nice living a bubble
and yes there is little redeeming qualities to P3 in the first 40-50 hours of the game other than the Iwatodai dorm soundtrack. It barely functions as a game until the other Persona users are dealt with and it takes too long to get there
NG+ so you can max all your confidants. Or if you used a guide like a retard for your first run, then just fuck around doing all the neat stuff that you skipped out on because it wasn't "optimal," and just going around talking to random NPCs to see how the game world changes as you progress the story (Newspaper Club Girl is best girl). Play it on a higher difficulty to challenge yourself, and/or do challenge runs like "solo Joker" or "AI-only team."
I don't know, most people just don't finish a first playthrough under the 100 hour mark usually
Alright, then tell me what's so great about P4's characters and their interactions.
>hunt down a DS and a copy of TWEWY to see what a better version of P5 looks like
TWEWY is probably in the top 10 of the most overrated games there is. It certainly doesn't come close to P5, but you come across as someone that knows that already and are just too autistic to admit it.
Not same user, but compared to P5:
>characters
Same fucking shit.
>interactions
They exist.
Still, P3 blows the fuck out of both when it comes to characters. Even better, Yukari or Junpei alone shit on everything made later.
You are out of your damn mind if you think P5 is better than TWEWY in any metric or on any criteria
Fucking list your arguments for why you think it’s better and we’ll see if you’re baiting or not
Agreed but I’d say it fills the hole that any JRPG leaves pretty well.
It’s also a good way to reset your center point so you know what and when games are breaking convention
It’s solid. Worth the price
bait
What's the appeal of this shit?
Just finished the Bank dungeon, how are the other dungeons?
They aren't boring and useless like Dumbpei, Yukari, 'pretend to be cool but be a loser' Akihiko, 'add on content' Ken and the crown jewel 'designed to be annoying and pathetic' Fuuka.
Play a real S. EMPTY game faggot
This
Or try to get the platinum. It's a nice challenge.
Why do so few JRPGs last longer than 40 hours now? Only P5 and XC2 have been longer than that this gen.
This game was total shit. How the fuck could you possibly come out of that entire last act with any positive feelings at all? The final part of Mementos was garbage, Yaldaboath was the worst villain of all time, and the entire ending's power of social media thing was nonsense. What the fuck.
Nier: Automata
Zelda: BotW
Talos Principle
I mean, I would say the opposite, most JRPGs I’ve played recently are at least forty hours long
>How the fuck could you possibly come out of that entire last act with any positive feelings at all?
By understanding the things that were happening on screen and not turning your brain off because the game's too long :(
Pyramid is fine, Spaceport is really linear and has dumb braindead puzzles and is easily the worst, Casino is good, Ship is good in theory but is by far the longest and overstays its welcome.
yikes!
I can't imagine living life with that few functioning brain cells
Most I've finished in 20-30 hours. And I'm not incredibly fast at playing through an RPG.
Blooming Villain is an excellent piece that represent the fight and the theme of the game spectacularly.
The songs starts all distorted like the emotions and desires of the enemy you are fighting against. The song gets progressively more distorted as it goes until suddenly the becomes clear all of the sudden, representing the phantom thieves fighting against the injustice and selfishness of the person in power.
Then the song goes from distorted to clean in shifts as the both forces are trying to impose one above the other. This goes for a while till it reaches a stalemate where the song doesn't seem to benefit anyone in particular. When the song starts going again the conflict of both distorted and clean goes on but slightly favoring the phantom thieves side more and more as the song goes on.
There is something similar going on with Willpower too if anyone cares to read.
The game has so much fucking empty space and yet crams if a fuckton of events all on Dec 24. Could it not have been paced a bit better rather than have everything happen at the last moment?
Play it again
you can fill the void by playing something good.
HEs right about the ending thought I’d say P5’s Tokyo and just general city stuff and gameplay made the whole experience better for me
I liked Yald’s Boss fight itself even if his visual design is shit
do it again but this time 100% it
TWEWY was the worst RPG experience of my lifetime
that's what happens when you jam to the sick tunes. I finished in 178 hours but I'm sure 50 of those hours were padding from just listening to the battle themes.
nice pic related btw s2j is one of my favorite c.falcons to watch
Which games are you talking about in particular?
I suppose I don’t really get that feeling but I haven’t played JRPGs recently aside from Torna and KH3.
NG+4.
I just really like the game.
>"Waahhh, why does this life simulator JRPG have life simulator elements in it, waahhh"
What’d you play it on?
Because if you disliked it on DS, I can’t fathom why you’d dislike it
Bait.
But anyways, comparing Persona 5 and TWEWY is like comparing apples and oranges. P5 is a true blue JRPG, and TWEWY's a wack combo of rpg and arpg.
The only real comparison is that they're both incredibly style-conscious games with bangin' soundtracks
>stop insulting my poorly paced anime story! They couldn’t space the events out because they wanted to let you do your life-sim stuff
>*railroads you during the intro of every new dunrgeon*
>he didn't like Persona turning into Elf where the climax literally involves the spirit of Christmas and Phantom Thieves giving the heroes the power to save the day on Christmas Eve
They also have somewhat similar premises about going into a mental/cognitive realm where thoughts form reality and changing people’s minds to help them become better.
And they’re both explorations of the Tokyo urban space
who did you romance OP
>They couldn’t space the events out
They spaced them out just fine. The fuck would you actually want them to space out on 12/24 specifically, Mementos Depths combined make up a single dungeon in terms of length.
Being retarded on purpose should be grounds for an instant permanent ban.
P5 doesn't even need to stick to the calendar system. Or it could and not keep using the "villain of the month" format because it's fucking stupid. You end up with a bunch of empty time where Futaba hibernates for an entire fucking month while you all twiddle your thumbs waiting for an arbitrary deadline. I don't mind the life sim, but P5 has fucking dogshit pacing, even worse than P4.
Fuuka is neither of those!
whole game wasn't shit imo, i had a v good time. i even enjoyed the last bit of mementos. but yeah, yaldaboath may just be the most dogshit villain ever. it literally came out of fucking nowhere
>shit shido was a huge anticlimax
>let's uhhhh make em fight 'god'
>a character we'll invent as an asspull at this exact moment so we can have a decent ending
user, the game very clearly advertises the gameplay it has, and people buy the game for that gameplay. It's not the game's fault you want to gut the majority of its gameplay just because you're too retarded to buy a game you actually might like. I don't whine about sports games having too much sports.
0/10 troll -3 cause it's not even summer yet
>narrative based game spends time narrative setup
>'stop it!'
fuck off and get some taste
Stop trying to false flag as a TWEWY fan, Barry.
Octopath Traveler
KH3
FF15
Atelier Sophie and L&S
Blue Reflection
Tales of Berseria
The main stories for JRPGs on the PS2 felt way longer than the current ones.
Imagine being so mad at a video game that you tell people who enjoyed it that they didn't actually enjoy it and should go play something that you enjoyed instead.
>he hasn't made a 100% save with all the special NG+ items you get from romancing different girls
user, literally the entire game builds to Yaldabaoth. Did you just think Mementos was there for fucking around in and nothing else?
I'm not taking shit from retarded secondaries who started with 5.
>Persona 5
>bangin' soundtrack
Pick one.
you're mad that a game gives you free time to play it
get off this board you fucking neophyte
No, it seems about 20 hours high.
NG+ and fight the twins alone
Holy autism
I was done with the game after i got my perfect Arsene and the platinum
Only 200 hours btw
doubtful that the game gives you reason to think that a god of control is what exists at the bottom of mementos, who's been secretly playing you the whole time. the game spends wayyyy more time toying around with the idea that morgana might be malevolent, and turn on you when you get down there.
i also thought the mementos superimposing onto the real world thing was a huge asspull too. not super related, but i wanted to put that thought out there
i truthfully would've preferred the holy grail as the final boss (with a more interesting battle mechanic ofc)
i dunno user, i get what you're saying, but i also just don't feel like i was really satisfied by the ending, you feel?
Tokyo Daylight is a huge tune, cop some taste
Persona 3 is the most overrated game on Yea Forums ever. Persona 5 felt like you building up with each palace, every villain was bigger and influential than the last. Can you describe the plot of P3's first half? You fight these Full Moon order bosses which add nothing to the overall story to combat apathy syndrome which the game doesn't even bother to get into. You see a few zombie looking people in the overworld and that's as big as an impact it has. Unlike the Phantom Thieves which actions are constantly reinforced into the world (after Medjed, PT merch is being sold, actions are commented on by MPC's through dialogue and even confidants, etc), characters barely comment on apathy syndrome and it barely affects people's everyday life. Apathy syndrome is literally there to give a shit motivation for the characters. Then there is the stupid plot twist with the director being evil, but unlike Adachi or Akechi, the game barely hints at it at all. There's a reason no one talks about this talk, he barely has a motivation and he is immediately killed off after he reveals he is evil. Even when you look at the hidden cams, he's just cracking jokes and puns. His character does a complete 180 when they reveal he is evil for no reason. The second half of P3 is a much better game and does an excellent job on instilling dread before the coming of Nyx, but the first half up until the betrayal is fucking awful, I don't see how people defend this shit. Persona 3 does also do a good job with character arcs (Junpei for example has the best arc out of any character in the Persona series imo) but these don't help the shitty plot.
Play P3 and P4 if you want more of the same. P3 really needs a remake though
P2 is good too, but the battle system is pretty slow, negotiations are awful
Try the Devil Survivor series too, not the same battle system but still fantastic
I don't even know how Mementos merged with the real world. The Dark Hour twisted into the real world because of Kirijo's fuckup with Death, and the TV world's fog could use the TV as a conduit to pour through. But Mementos has nothing like that. It's just suddenly this unholy fusion that comes out of nowhere.
replay it on Merciless, Arsene only
By playing 3 and 4.
Why does it needs an explanation, its the uncollected unconsciousness. Literally the same as Dark Hour and the TV World.
> the game gives you reason to think that a god of control is what exists at the bottom of mementos
The game gives you a reason to think that Igor is shady as fuck at multiple points, there was even some optional dialogue where you could ask him questions about the Black Mask and the Conspiracy and he would just creepily laugh and change the subject. The game makes it abundantly clear super early on that something is at the bottom of Mementos, and it establishes right away that the nav app comes from Igor which then plays into Akechi's entire lie. It also opens the Cruise Ship arc with Shido trying to straight up escape the "ruin" Igor has mentioned a million times, and let's not forget Lavenza's cries for help in the Velvet Room getting clearer and clearer as you go through the game, plus the entire Strength confidant. Something like the holy grail being at the bottom is pretty easy to guess early on as well just because of Morgana's name, and how he woke up in Mementos, and on top of that you get the lecture on the grail and how it relates to hearts towards the end of the game. There is a fuckload of build up. Certainly much more than the endgame bosses in the other games had.
>mementos superimposing onto the real world thing was a huge asspull too
user this was literally foreshadowed by Shido's entire palace being set above a flooded Tokyo, and it shows that Shido was literally completely right about everything that pissed him off. The collective unconscious bleeds into the real world the same way it does in any of these games.
Because the others have an explanation, you fuckwit.
>one song is a soundtrack
There's some good songs spareingly scattered about like Life Will Change, Beneath the Mask, Days When Mother was There, and like you mentioned but the soundtrack means every song as a whole. So much of it is rubbish.
People's mind and egos have power in SMT games, what else do you fucking need.
Demiurge did the same shit as Izanagi.
Do you seriously think so? There's a fair handful of songs that are straight up great - all the ones you mentioned, plus blooming villian, rivers in the desert, wake up get out there, L A S T S U R P R I S E, series staple poem of everyone's souls, king queen and slave, butterfly kiss. That's probably all the standouts I can think of off the top of my head.
Point being, large amount of good songs, plus the remainder of the soundtrack being very serviceable in setting the mood and vibe of the game makes it a good one. Right?
>Only 200 hours btw
My first playthough took me a good 175 hours.
Nothing maxed or platinumed.
I got bored at the Big Bang palace final boss and just shut the PS4 off. That was about 5 months ago, how close am I to the end? I just want to get it over with since I bought it at launch.
If you grew up playing old school jrpgs then you'll probably enjoy it because it's a really solid recreation of that feeling on a modern console. It really just appealed to my nostalgia more than it actually being fun.
There's two more palaces. Both are far better and far more interesting than the big bang burger one. That one sucked shit
it's literally the "Generic JRPG all animu parody at one point - The Game".
Looks pretty and has some fun cast, but if you despise turn-based combat and grinding, stay away.
But Big Bang Burger has the best boss in the game.
People like you shouldn’t be in control of your own finances. If you won’t finish a game you bought two fucking years ago, how can you be expected to have the attention span for real life.
Slowpoke
How did the desire and thinking for yourself themes tie in together? Was it saying that by just following fads and having others think for you, you can't really have any true desires of your own?
>Wake up, get up, get out there
>Life Will Change
>Beneath the mask
>Beneath the mask (rain)
>Tension
>Will Power
>Last Surprise
>King, Queen, Slaves
>Tokyo Daylight
>Blooming Villain
>A Woman
>Butterfly Kiss
>Have a short rest
>Price
>Tokyo Emergency
>Layer Cake
>Alleycat
>Confession
>Whims of Fate
>When Mother was there
>Rivers in the Dessert
>Freedom and Security
>Our Beginning
No, think it in a more abstract and general way.
>First playthrough was 90 hours
>Didn't even rush it
Maybe it was because I had the moon arcana maxed early and the extra EXP meant I didn't need to grind, I don't know.
I have a save file with a stupid amount of time. I went through and made a perfect "version" of each monster and the only way I found to do that was to do the once a day sacrifice. I might have autism.
If TWEWY was the worst RPG experience in your life, then I’d hate to see what you consider good.
Last of us.
Get rid of the persona and withdraw a new copy. You can sacrifice as many times as you want that way.
Kek
I was definitely expecting Morgana to be evil. Or at least some aspect of the holy grail. And also, I was expecting him to actually be a her. Or something weird. We got a pretty uninformative reveal so it sapped my interest in him.
Speedrunner.
Freedom and Security might be the best thing Meguro has written.
Good taste user.
Well that would've been nice to know before I did it. Something to keep in mind if I ever feel like doing it again.
1 > EP > 3 > IS > 5 > 4
Daily reminder
The unfortunate reality that aside from the music, Persona gets better with each installation. (The music stays about the same in quality). P3 and P4 barely have qualities at this point which make them worth playing P1 and P2 are scarcely worth touching at this point.
You're best off playing them in order, playing them out of order will spoil you bad.
bait
play persona 4. it's a better game overall.
TWEWY 's gameplay is fucking garbage.
The big bang one totally took the wind outta my sails, I was generally enjoying the game until then. I'll try to truck through it.
Thanks for your input.
Contrarian taste user
Honestly the only thing that keeps down the first two is how the combat feels. It just feels way too slow and menus (at least for IS) feel too slow to navigate for how many you go through. And the battle animations aren't impressive enough these days for them to be entertaining to watch. Ended up abusing the speedup function of my emulator too much.
Remakes when
>TWEWY’s gameplay is garbage
>the battle animations aren't impressive enough
eat dick
While he certainly is baiting, he's actually right about playing the games in order.
The ability to control party members from 3-4 and then many, many quality of life improvements from 4 to 5 make it really hard to go in reverse order.
P3 gets pretty good at the end if you can power through it. It's a chore to play for the most part though.
The problem with persona 4 is that persona 5 had pretty much custom dungeons. They really upped the game with that. It's going to be a little disappointing to diminish improvements like that.
Persona 4's story is also pretty much a giant mess. Yukiko is unfortunately a massive slut, too. It's worth playing, but saying it's better is just flat out wrong.
>P3 really needs a remake though
No it doesn't. If ATLUS wants to go to the bother of remaking something it should be something that would actually benefit from it like SMT1 and 2, not a PS2 game.
It's funny how much you can cut from the game and miss nothing
All those conversations you have over and over again about the same shit
All those text messages
A waste of time, really
This is so fucking true and nobody wants to admit it.
If they just re-released P3 & P4 with all of P5's enhancements, that'd be plenty good enough. I seriously doubt they can do that trivially though. Those games are definitely written in disorganized assembly. I'm sure it'd be a pain to refactor them.
P1 and P2 need a total remake, you can't reuse anything from them unless you will re-release them as 3DS games, lol.
Except he’s wrong, you jackass.
Yeah, true, but Persona has always been VN-like. A ton of filler. But this is what makes them enjoyable I think. You have to invest a lot of time into the characters and when it's all over it feels like you had a connection with them. It's hard to make every moment meaningful. Meaningful moments are only meaningful if you have a lot of meaningless moments surrounding them.
I have to disagree
I don't need to hear the explanation of palaces and personas and all that a few times because there's a new member
Those texts too, they just made me space out after a while
I'm not saying everything has to be meaningful but the repetition was just annoying
Lol did you only use 3 save files throughout the game?
I only use 1.
>not use all save slot available
Why people doing this?
In the casino, I used my coins incorrectly and couldn't progress. I didn't have any saves to backtrack to. So I was stuck playing the slots for hours until I had just enough to progress. It was frightening and frustrating and hilarious.
I could not finish this game.
Loved P3
Loved P4
Way too many days trying to min/max social links and not enough days exploring a dungeon. You were pressured to finish dungeons in one day, so the exploration-social life sim ratio was horribly one sided.
Play Persona 4 Golden and P3 FES.
>Being this much of a Boomer
Dragons Quest is a great gameplay game. But it's not really known for its Story. Persona 5 was much better and I would love to see you argue me on P3 FES story or Golden.
Play P3 FES not P3P or Persona 3. Also it does pickup after 4 months in. It requires patience something you lack.
pff..only 98 hours I have over 500.
Based poster who gets why the game is good
