I only tried MtG once. A single player one was installed in an internet cafe and I spent 3 hours playing against the ai without any need for tutorial. You know for a game that plays itself it's pretty damn addictive.

I think deck building games are like looter shooters. There has to be a kernel of a good game in there somewhere because they're all slightly fun and there are plenty of mechanics that should be great but both genres has failed to every present a game that's actually good.
