There are issues with it though. For example, you can't do aerial combos without SM, you're stuck with helm breaker. Trickster is needed just for a good dodge move and certain moves are flat out removed (free ride, wild stomp). I vastly prefer 3's style system.

Start by learning how to ex after your first swing on the ground. Then slowly work that into fights.
As in, hit triangle and as your swing stops rev up. Once you get it, use that charge on a uppercut or a dash attack.
Next learn the same for when you're in the air. Swing once then charge.

Why do so many shitposters (on Yea Forums especially) keep insisting that enemies in DMC never fight back or are just punching bags waiting for you to launch them? Have they even played the games? And if so, do they play on any difficulty above Easy? Because even on Normal, most enemies are still pretty aggressive.
I just played DMC1 for the first time in years on a fresh new file earlier this month, and the enemies there are the complete opposite of "never fight back" or "punching bags". And this is just Normal difficulty in DMC1. The only instances on Normal difficulty where this criticism even closely applies in DMC2, and that game is just universally accepted as shit. The basic Scarecrows of DMC4 I guess are pretty nonaggressive on normal, but a lot of the other enemies are still a threat even on Normal.

Yeah, if we're not counting the novel Nero just knows about Vergil from Dante telling him that Yamato was his brother's sword. Also when Nero got stabbed by Agnus and almost died, he apparently had a dream about Vergil. But in the novel it says that Nero couldn't see what he looked like and didn't know who he was.
