Just update Luma and then update your 3DS. You don't need to "rehack" it unless you're not on B9S yet, and even then switching doesn't take as much time as hacking it for the first time.

You "inject" .cia files for the VC-style games you want, there are premade ones on sites like 3dsiso which you just save to your SD card and put on your 3DS using FBI (a program you'll get by hacking and following the guide). Or, if you have the ROM and want to create the .cia yourself, you can convert it. /hbg/'s pastebin has a guide, along with other stuff that's useful.

I think I used godmode9 to dump the rom to ensure it would be compatible with the save and then I think I used something else for the actual saves.

My advice would be to use the homebrew version of pokebank OR copy the pokemon to a legitimate game before moving them to pokebank.

there is a homebrew save manager app. that lets you manage savegames on 3ds carts, nds carts and a lot of virtual console titles.
with this you can just copy the save files from nds carts onto the sd card in a format that is used by literally every emulator ever. also ndsbootstrap.

go to FBI on your nds and select remote install -> network install.
you can just "boop" over .cia files that way. also has switch support now. its less convinient than freeshop or installing custom tickets because you actually have to download the cias onto your pc and then boop them over. rather than just going into the eshop or freeshop and download the updates and dlcs that way.
also the eshop will now delete all dlcs that are not legally owned from your system whenever you open it.
thats why this shit is such a hassle now.

Eshop always did that if you had non legally owned dlc. I've never had an issue with updates on games. You install one and it should tell you on the home screen that you can update it. As for dlc, I just install a CIA of that too.

My 3DS stopped reading my DS flashcart with DS games, did anybody else have this problem?

3DS XL feels a bit more solid but I haven't had any problems with my 2DS XL either. No screen issues with either one, battery lasts about equal, and my only thing is I like that the 2DS XL microsd slot is easier to get to which with my shiternet I prefer connecting my microsd physically to my PC versus wireless.

2DS are cheap (both in price and in build quality), but if you care more about saving money than the type of plastic your handheld is made out of it's fine. question, I got a N2dsxl, basically my first nintendo handheld ever. Is the Dpad supposed to be this loose? It feels like some cheap chinkshit, I don't mind how it clicks but you can basically move the entire dpad plastic around

Force yourself to pick and complete one game before moving to the next one.

CFW currently allows you to hook into the DS backwards compatibility mode to run games from the home menu.
It's really cool but compatibility is hit or miss in edge cases.
I still vastly prefer it to flashcarts, I have owned a compatible flashcart for longer than I've had CFW and still much prefer the CFW method.

I thought this would happen to me when I hacked my switch but that hasn't happened yet.

As far as retro emulation goes, both are on the same level as far as I know with 3ds doing DS good and Vita doing PS good. Am I right here?

following a recipe for fucking pancakes is more challenging than this. the only way you will ever brick a 3ds is if you turn it off while the firmware is installing, you would have to go out of your way to do it. even updating a windows pc is more "risky" than this.

Hard pass on any Shin Megami game, I could borrow any of those other games from my brother if I wanted, and portability doesn't interest me at all since 90% of the time I'm out of the house is because I'm doing something and can't play a game anyway. Also playing retro games on the 3DS screen sucks.

I bought an original model 3DS last summer for real cheap with the intent of hacking it for personal use, but the guide site said I needed an R4 to do it. Figured if I had to buy something that would play pirated games then why bother hacking at all so I never went through with it.

Might do it anyway and sell it to at least get a little more money out of it.

Can’t play 3ds games on switch, though. At least, a good portion you can’t. Citra is a far from perfect emulator.

I am primarily PC and I prefer multiplats on Switch because I like sitting wherever I want in the house and enjoying the game.
The switch has a few exclusives of its own I enjoy and it is both powerful enough for PS1 emulation and now N64 emulation with good controls to match (something I couldn't ever get on my phone).

That really don't justify the price tag, I rather waste my money on other stuff you know, well, until RF5 releases and I'm forced to get a switch so after I'm done with RF it can collect dust.

I've honestly played my switch more than twice as long as my PS4 despite owning it for a year less.

XBC2, Bing-bing Wahoo, Zelda port of the wild and all the Wii U shit no one ever played is pretty enjoyable.
I also played Valkyria 4 on it over PC just because I think that game plays better on a portable with its small missions and somewhat turn based nature.

I sold my hacked OG 3DS and ordered New 2DS XL Animal Crossing edition. Should I hack it? The only games I want are New Leaf (it’s preinstalled), Etrian Odyssey Nexus, WaroWare Gold and maybe Yokai Watch 3. I pirated and played all the good shit ages ago on my old console. I feel like the thing will lose its value if I hack it.

From what I can tell, the new!2DS XL is the only model currently available. And, you can hack it no matter what firmware it's on. But you want it to be the latest, because the three revisions before that need hardmodding.

Don't, the XL are shit. I own two of them. You wouldn't believe how much cheaper they feel in your hand compared to the regular sized n3DS.

Also, their designs peel off, so you will be constantly paranoid and baby the damn thing.

A lot of DS games are actually pretty viable running off SD cards, it made pretty big leaps. Still some games with some issues, but it's viable unless you're looking to play some really niche games that no one patched up.

Get the latest EZ Flash. The one that comes with an alternate shell so that it can be used either in a GBA, or in a DS Lite, and still sit flush with the unit.

I guess you can just go with R4i Gold+ which is what a lot of people recommend but I've seen anons argue for other cards and that the R4i Gold+ is just the most popular choice, but running 3DS games from SD cards is actually pretty solid now for the majority of games, so I'd give that a shot first before you buy a flash cart.

The nice thing about the RFi Gold+ is that it makes hacking your 3DS significantly easier.
