Pure /m/etal. But besides that, I kinda prefer weapons and armor that are more basic looking. A little extra flair is alright. That kind of sword in the op is a bit too fantasy for me.
75% realistic dimensions and weight
25% embellishment
Watching 110 pound anime/jrpg chracters twirling 450 pound weapons is so stupid looking to me.
I like to look like a powerful hero guy
Original but "functional"
Autism
Basically like this. I don't mind it having plenty of frills and impractical adornments but I want it to look and feel like it really is armored.
No, just good taste.

That's a fucking dress with some metal panels on it.
Far right
I like them grounded with a hint of fantasy.
With a creative look but not overly designed.
So yeah, anything Fromsoft
The first one
Don't respond to weebs, they are delusional
Either 3, 5, or 6.
I like curved swords.
Rule of cool. If they're rad, i don't care how unrealisting they might be.
>Whips
>Guns as heels
>Dual wielding(guns and blades)
>Weapons the size of small cars
>Fantasy martial arts
>Electric guitar that shoots bats when you play it
It varies, grounded is nice but throw something a bit eccentric in the design.
Depends on the game I'm playing
See this shit son?. This is a mother fucking sword that turns into a bow. Do I care about how absurd this thing is? NO, because it looks cool as hell.
Give me the first one, hefty and reliable looking if sharpened
Long as it isn't this it's fine

Fantastically believable.
Heavy
>Bowstring just disappears behind the blades
>bowstring against blades
Shitty retarded design
The best possible one, is the armor that is fantasy as fuck but still makes you go "yeah someone could conceivably wear this"
Dark Souls is peak vidya armor, I haven't seen any work of fiction or fact with more aesthetic armor. Please prove me wrong lads.
The blade is hollow on the inside when split, so no, the bowstring is not touching the blade.
This. Bells and whistles that aren't functional (spikes etc) can be waived because 'its magic,' but no chainmail bikini.
Pic related, my edgy trash DnD character.
sleek functional dark colored
some sort Cape, surcoat or mantle to give it contrast and color. Don't really like bulky armors or armors that look like they would require a squire to get them on or off.
You have Berserk to thank for that
Now that's an aesthetic sword that i could get behind.
Upvoted as agreement.
>hollow blade
Sounds reliable in a fight,
Is this fucking furryshit?
Realism is for autistic people
Here ya go user

Practical and appealing.
Well this is the same game where you can kill a 25-foot tall beast with a serrated cane.
Yes. Final Fantasy pathfinder system, Burmecian Dark Knight.
A mix is nice, which the games from your OP do nicely. Early game has mostly grounded looking sets but later game areas that tend to be more ancient or ornate have wilder looking armour. It gives a nice sense of progression, plus the early game stuff isn’t always outclassed by the late game stuff so you if you don’t like fantastical armour designs you don’t always have to use them in order to perform on par with the fantasy stuff.
You designed that sword with the most awkward features you can give to a sword on purpose, don't you?
I'm there with ya.
something in between but the set in your pic is retarded
looks great except for the helmet you can't see through and the dumb partial wig in the back
>The blade is hollow on the inside when split
I'm missing something here?
The blade is hollow, and the bowstring is stored there when in sword mode. Also it launches bolts of blood, I don’t know if the bowstring is made of traditional bowstring material.
The sword wasn't designed by me, it was something the DM had on an enemy that my character pretty much just stole. It would absolutely be impossible to use, but I just roll with it since it fits their design.
Something in between.
The helmets in Bloodborne tend to cover the eyes since they’re dealing with eldritch horrors and there’s a lot of lore stuff about true sight and such so it’s a thematic choice, but yeah divorced from that context the helmet looks really fucking silly. And the wig looks dumb regardless.
Not to be tried out but Dark Souls strikes the perfect balance
Elite Knight Set is literally the best armor design ever made
Lower levels should be functional and then it goes full fantasy when you get to epic/high level stuff.
too bad they cut pretty much all the cainhurst content, maybe they cut out the reason the helm is designed that way too. but at least there are some other helms that actually look good with the armor
The Nibelsnarf set is basically my platonic ideal for armor
Yes
MAXIMUM camouflage in the jungle
Third from the left
This.
You have some weird fetish for ammo pockets.
Elite Knight is top tier but I also really like the Alva set. I can’t pick a favourite.
It’s pretty unlikely Nibelsnarf will make it into World but he better be in MH6. I love his armour.
realistic all the way
Wow that looks sexy.
whatever this is
i really like alva's set in 2, but something about it in 3 is lackluster to me
In between. Full on stupid anime shit is dreadful and "realistic" armour can be boring if it's a fantasy setting.
Ornate plate armor is the best, but I don't mind realistic designs or fanservice.
Something like this
This is my favorite armor design of all time.
medieval fantasy armor that looks like capeshit
What was the joke here again? He had to properly guess which one was the legendary sword?
I need all my armor to have capes, I don't care how impractical it is. Especially if I'm playing as a lady knight.
Yes
I unironically like Warcraft's aesthetics.
bruh
I gotta go rewatch it. Did the third season ever get fully subbed? Last I saw there were only 2 episodes.
American armor.
Looks like there are 4 subbed episodes.
Fuck, Dark Souls 2 had some really great armor sets
God damn it's been like over a year why are they so fucking slow? And here I thought waiting 6 months for a Batsu game was bad enough.
>Something inbetween?
I'll take a solid art-style and art-direction over realism.
beware what you post
Probably dropped it
Today, I will remind them.
In giant robot form.
inbetween but with realistic porportions
Something in between, but leaning closer to functionality. I hate TERA tier armor.
>Low level/starting gear
Rusted, improvised, small, low fantasy.
>Medium level/decent gear
Functional, realistic weapons and armor.
>High level/above average gear
Highly ornate, decorated weapons. Look at Indian, Persian, and African weapons as well as ceremonial armors.
>Legendary/artifact gear, end game weapons
Over the top large and heavy weapons, huge amounts of glowing shit on them, crystals, energy, parts of the weapon are suspended or only connected with magic, etc.
This is the best method. Prove me wrong.
BIG YIKES
Bulky niggaz
Based, what a fantastic looking set. This image makes me miss the visual differences between gunner/blademaster armors. World could have implemented it in a much better way with the alpha/beta sets since anyone can wear either but more often than not all we got were lazy recolors. The visual design in the game in general were mostly pretty damn lazy. And before anyone says dumb shit like "muh new generation models made from scratch", no fuck off, that's why we're having less monsters to begin with, it's absolutely bullshit that even among the already reduced number we have an even smaller pool of good looking armor and weapon designs.
that's cancer
>mfw the heide knight set, my favorite of them all, didn't return in 3
>The hexer set was already finished but didn't make it in, I mean the assets are there they just didn't bother turning it on
>tons of other shit was finished, but didn't make it in
>fuckin' why
You started right and then you went to shit.
You clearly understand that a practical weapon should deal more damage than an impractical one, why you decided to ignore this fact halfway in?.
>Prove me wrong
usually doesnt work because in most games you can get to end game in like 30 hours.
this means you only get to experience each visual tier for like 6
most of the time is spent on last tier, thus putting the rest of visuals to shame and making it seem as if you really didnt work that hard to achieve those visuals
This is specially true for most MMOs, which also tend to be shit because in order to create the coolest top tier sets they overdesign everything
>huge amounts of glowing shit on them, crystals, energy, parts of the weapon are suspended or only connected with magic
these are the usual red flags of those overdesigned trash edgy sets that mostly attract teens because colourful/efgy/flashy...etc
Focusing on just one or a couple of those aspects can be good, like just having huge weapons, or this very unique item that floats but it's also not too visually stricking to overcompensate.
Basically, there cant be too much difference from starting gear to late game gear, the bigger the jump the less grounded it will feel as we spend most of the game on end gear
sorry bro
Whats with women in armor, women arent knight material.
They should be dressed like tavern wenches.
I prefer straight realism over straight fantasy but I much prefer fantasy weapons with practical/trained use.
For example, Bloodborne greatsword movesets were much better than any greatsword out of Dark Souls except Hollowslayer. He looks stupid just barely dragging those things from side to side hitting them on the ground each time, while the Hunter can actually lift and swing his weapons properly from side to side.
Yeah the Alpha/Beta/Gamma armour system is at its core superior to the Blademaster/Gunner distinction imo but you could tell they rushed a lot of the armour sets since most were just recolours. I’m sure Iceborne will handle it better with GR (or MR as it is now, need to get used to that) armours, but it’s still disappointing that HR armours were so lacklustre.
Also the amount of monsters we got for a new generation was pretty good, it was just the variety that sucked. MH1 had only 17 and Tri had 18, 30 is pretty much right in the middle with Dos having 40 something and 4 having 50 something. The problem is that the monsters themselves except a few feel rushed as well.
I’m really interested in learning more about World’s development, I know they prioritised environments and mechanics and left everything else to the last minute because they were investing in a new framework to rehash for decades to come, but seriously the actual content of the game feels so haphazardly and quickly thrown together despite the immense polish in most other aspects of the game.
>He doesn't want a tall, strong, armored woman at his side in the battlefield
>He doesn't want to experience post battle coitus with his amazon partner
>He doesn't want to bathe and cuddle together after a hard day sieging a castle
That's pretty gay, mate
Dark souls does it well for me that mostly it's "realistic fantasy".
I normally prefer historically accurate but when you get to plate I find full plate gothic or milanese, or often anything European 1300s to 1500s, to be ugly as shit. It's strange because a simple mail hauberk isn't 'underdesigned' to me, yet gothic or milanese with nothing on it is underdesigned as fuck. But fantasy plate can also end up looking bad when it's too fantastical, like So I love & & but I hate pic related because it's so plain, so 'final', so smooth and polished.
Something something gap moe
The Ringed City alone has like 5 completely finished but unused armour sets in the files. That random OC donut steel Silver Knight invader who was BFFs with Smough and went around exploring had his own modified Silver Knight Set with antlers and shit to go with his unique hammer, but for some reason they decided to just give him normal Silver Knight armour despite the complete set existing in the files.
technological fantasy
And conversely I hate fantasy Romans or fantasy Greeks, I also dislike Lorica Segmenta compared to Republican or especially late imperial Romans who look ace. makes me think the issue for me is that full plate needs to look ornate and luxurious, complex, otherwise it doesn't jive with me. I don't like how soulless stormtroopery the full plate gothic/milanese knight looks or the early imperial legionary. Mail may be as sameness as plate, as featureless or single layered, but it has a weathered and worn quality that makes it endearing in that capacity.
Grounded but still fantasy
Historical fantasy armour master race of course.
"embellished realism"
Post some paladin armor please, I don't have enough pics
I sense that people that design stuff like these never lifted a chunk of metal in their lives to underestimate how heavy steel really is.
Where ever Monster Hunter weapons lie, even the joke ones
Because it looks cool
fluted is pretty dope and actually exsited irl, DeS pretty much lifted the real armor and placed it in the game
Why are you complaining about oversized weapons in a fiction setting?
Technically vidya
souls can do it because they are tame in most other aspects of the visuals.
If this was wow, not only would it be that huge, but also have tons of sparkly glowy crystals shit and floating stones around. Maybe even some particles every now and then.
with ds, ledo's hammer can be huge because that's the novelty of it, being comically huge while the rest of the design is still grounded
Like this
This 100%. Dont be dry as fuck and just recreate real armour because most of it is actually quite boring, build ontop of it as a foundation.
>90% of characters are 100% realistic and functional
>9% of wealthy characters are realistic but with cultural embellishments and expensive decoration that fit the fictional person and society, but still fairly functional
>1% characters with physically impossible weapons
Fantasy weapons and armor are only cool when you've already established why they are cool, within the story.
>Sora never got keyblade armor
FOR SHAME
Exosuits don't count dude, that's like the science fiction equivalent of magic in medieval fantasy settings.
Plate armor with skirts are kino.
Some heavy fucken armor for a burmie 'just fuck my racial bonuses up' ehh?
science fiction IS magic AND fantasy
Guts' giant sword is really cool because it isn't common in the setting. It makes him stand out and it's impressive. Contrast that with Monster Hunter where everyone and their grandmother runs around with a giant slab sword. It makes it extremely common and boring. There's no "holy shit!" moments.
Maybe in the next one
The football armor was only suppressed by the seltas gundam you got to be later.
Inspired
But these are really cool too, may it be because they are not as popular?
Reminds me of Riddick, what game?
>what if Warframe
>but Final Fantasy
BEEEG TIDDIES > any other consideration
why did pauldrons get out of control in wow
>Pauldren so big it'll crush your head if you try to do an overhead swing
Big yikes.
5, the handguard means I can take a hit and use all the cool stances, the others are barely functional too.
That image is neither.
Except exosuits functionally exist in real life.
the sword look like an executioner sword. it a real type of sword used to chop off head
Star Citizen
Yo do know that the next Kindgom Hearts is actually gonna be The World Ends With You 2, right?
I like cool shit and I decide what is and isn't cool as I go.
Not tacticool enough
i like my armors k i n o
then Im guessing u got the wrong pic user
I linked an user about that, see:
What the other user was referring to was back-mounted sheath, the awkward not-quite-zweihander base spikes, awkwardly shaped guard, short handle, and of course the weird weight (that is accurate to the executioner's blade)
The far left (striaghtsword) or 3rd from the right (the Saber) are objectively the best choices
shit u right
Is that the Zethian Sword?
Kinda cool
>The Zenithian Sword
I know where this is from, really need to get around to watching it.
I like my weapons not having THE EXACT SAME FUCKING MOVESETS FOR FIVE GAMES IN A ROW
LOOKING AT YOU, STRAIGHT SWORDS, KATANAS AND GREATSWORDS
A+ for creativity but this os overdesigned
>tree branches and leaves in red sugest nature themes
>rock-like cracks in the skirt thingie section, ok maybe this is like an earth themed set?
>draconic wing like chest and some kind of mirror takes center...maybe earth forest dragon guy?
>perfectly smooth les armor and running looking shoes, so maybe a fast kind of guy? what does this have to do with earth? why the skirt thingie then?
>dragon on the helmet posing as a gargoyle, more bulkier so goes against the smoothness of the legs. back to dragon themes i guess, but the gargoyle motiff and red indicate me some kind of evil guy??
so we have forest, rock, agile, draconic and evil guy themes?
yeah you put way too much in there im sorry :)
Clawed gauntlets are my fetish
I like plating, leather, screws and bolts, wear and tear, just things that make it look really hand crafted or machined. I think Dark Souls does it well enough and something like is nice. I don't mind ornate designs but context is important.
cont'd
problem with designs like is that faggots with absolutely no taste think they are cool because
>muh complex == good design and cool a e s t h e t i c s
Im all in for artists flexing their muscles and being creative, these are great for that, but they dont convey shit and are directionless. Concept art needs to get to the point and tell you something at a quick glance
it has one theme which is 'statue'
with flowers growing on it and sprouting from the cracks
Have you ever wanted to fuck a robot, or at least, can you see why people might like that? Well, here's an ominous proposition: What if the robot was a human in disguise, with a head that you can remove and find a human face?
The second one, the grip looks comfy and the weapon itself appears to be pretty well balanced
t. guy who thinks faceless mooks and generic knight outfits are interesting
Realistic but some magical shit laws can be applied. Like a sword with runes is fine, as long as it doesn't stand out too much.
Weapons like the Ultra weapons from souls or your pic should be extreme rarity and used only by strongest people or some inhuman beings, instead of every gimp being able to even lift those.
Like in Berserk, only Guts can lift that huge sword.
>more busy overdesigned anime armor
the entire low area doesnt convey that with the smooth ass legs and the separate skirt strips, doesnt make him seem very stationary like a statue would
could have done a way better job with a long skirt that continues from the front and branches coming out of it's cracked strips
also some bulkier boots
this one's way better and more focused than the two others. You get two themes (cowboy+sailor) and every other element in the armor points to that
¡Ay caramba!
these images come from kamen rider concept art so they need to be able to jump and fight around so obviously the leg armor needs to be flexible enough to do so
He looks like a ruined church, the gargoyle thing only helps that. I don't see the smoothness you say, it looks like the same material, but not broken by time.
Overlord had peak evil tin can aesthetic
Look at how perfect the edge is
thank for pointing it out
then we can say that concessions were made in the design in favor of serving the main themes of the series.
Then again you could ask yourself why try to fit the concept of a statue in a series about moving fast??
If you still want to go forth, maybe have him teleport instead of moving his legs?
I dont know, still not the best of designs....
Keep looking at it and I really dont see it
what would point me towards a church? the gargoyle?
problem is the rock cracks and branches make me think more of earth than a structure in ruins
is the glass thingie there to support the structure themes?
I dont know man, it's good to see there was some intent behind it and you guys get it but I doubt its a good design. Again, very original tho
A little mix of high tech and medieval.
I like it neat, of nice shape, with good colors accenting it.
>could have used a different color closer to one of a usual structure
>could have cut an entire arm and represent the reined building idea through that
>the agile lower half still dont make any sense. Some are pointing out it's an statue, some it's a ruined church, both to me should still be anti-agile ideas. Have him teleport if fast reaction is needed
It was good for its time, but with the fidelity that can be worked on nowadays, even stylistic needs less emphasis.
dunnoboutdet
i like the idea but execution is poor
the overdesign is the appeal
>implying wow problem is the graphic fidelity
>ignoring the fact that every other armor they design has to 1up what they did previously so every single time it's overkill
>main reason why they stopped doing tier sets
>now instead they are coming out with incredibly bland looking sets by comparison that look grounded but not cool given how every one else in the game looks like a god already with their transmogs using those overdesigned pieces
Knowing how realistic armor works, and using the knowledge to make some slick fantasy armors.
I can see the appeal for overdesign and complexity but it's no good if it gets in the way of transmitting a main idea.
This one is pretty good although i find it funny that lower section indicated egypt and top section is more european
Garland's armor made into dissidia in a better state than WoL's armor and he's got an interesting giant sword that also justifies him being a wizard.
>unequips weapon from weapon slot
>bare fists don't do shit
Why can't unarmed combat be done better in games? Favorite armor is pic related; I like armors that use an abundant amount of cloth, even if it is just decoration
It was originally a tomb king construct but unfortunately some of him got looted and melted down into other things, as it turns out it didn't take a whole lot of work to fix it.
something in between, a bit more grounded than fantastical
dragons dogma had the perfect balance
God I miss this game
>Ignores a chunk of iron on a stick shaped to kill and goes barehands
>Expects damage
Literal braindead retards
Grounded, based on historical armor design. A hint of fantasy is okay though.
I'm still mad that the iron armor set doesn't have a genuine breast plate
You and me both.
I'm learning Jap just to read the better script.
FOOTBAAAAALLLL rooms in the 4U demo were some of the most fun shit ever
You act like they aren't aware this isn't possible in real life.
god I fucking love futuristic take on medieval armour
Crusader has some of the most aesthetic sets in the game, but I'll always love their 'default' look.
I prefer this armor from the other Overlord.
Dark fantasy, medieval, grimdark, bleak.
Just big enough to be considered mecha but small enough to keep suspension of disbelief
The tactical babycarrier look is never good
It is if you do the legs right and properly armor the pilot.
40k fucked it up by having the robot be way too big, in Infinity the pilot helps balance the suits legs themselves.
Pic related, how NOT to do it.
Far right ez, unless they've got armour in which case the first once because I'll have to use it as a mace
because realism is for fags
I want blades to be basic but I like when they go hog fucking wild on the hilt
Based.
Anime style but practical.
oh and armors should be basic as well but go crazy with pauldrens
Unique. The Logarius' Wheel is extremely my shit. It's weird, it's unconventional, I've never seen anything else like it in a game, and it's fucking cool as all balls. Same goes for the Amygdalan Arm, it's weird as shit with a super obscure moveset and I love it.
Fucking based. Favorite weapon in Bloodborne by far (don't have the dlc though lmao I theorize that the parasite will be my real favorite) I've been using the preacher arm in DaS3 lately comboing with dark edge and it's fun as fuck.
Always good to see a fellow wheelbro, also get the god damn DLC. The bosses are on another level.
>Armored extremities, minimally armored torso
Top tier
Although I prefer those kinds of girls with wifebeaters and mechanic pants than bikinis
>Feminine and good looking full plate.
>Manly armor but half nekkid so you can see her cute girl flesh.
I like both. People need to stop arguing about female armor and unify together in their absence of homosexuality. though to fuck up my own point I vastly prefer girls to be in pretty caster robes over anything else.
This is peak female armor.
The Alva set was so well-liked that even after From was told to scuttle advertising plans for it and instead prop up the Faraam K***ht set, they kept the Faraam set at the halfway mark of the game and gave Alva's armor superior stats, despite being one of the first sets you can buy, and put it in the gestures menu.
For me, it's the Havel set.
