The colorful companions you acquire completely dissolve any tension. Haven't heard of Mogeko's Castle, will check it.
It's quick and dirty, and it was new. That uncanny juxtaposition between the simple sprite art and the big headed guy worked really well. Couple that with the music out of nowhere, it worked well.

I found the game fun for what it was but it wasnt scary at all. The only RPG maker horror game that scared me was Witch's House.

I wouldn't call it scary, but it was definitely enjoyable. Wasn't really scary, but it had an "oh, shit" factor that kept it interesting and even sort of funny.
