Come on Square, he's the PERFECT FF Rep.

Attached: Bartz-ThirdEXMode.png (685x635, 153K)

The Shadow echo fighter was probably one of the easiest things they could have done. I have no idea why it didn't happen but Daisy did. Baffling.

Probably some bullshit on Sega's end, as usual.

The only character I want.

Attached: image.png (452x600, 247K)

butts?

People have speculated that the heads at SEGA were afraid that Shadow would be picked more than Sonic. Yes, they are that petty.

I think Kirby's cast in general is good enough for another, but I feel Dark Matter should have a high role than just a Spirit (at least assist trophy or boss status), especially after the clone in Planet Robobot and the revelations about Void Termina in Star Allies

That's not Gilgamesh.
Still a great choice though.

Attached: KQ_Dark_Matter.png (256x384, 36K)

Japan likes him, and he could make for a great retro rep.

Attached: Dz8GKPQW0AEW765.jpg (1200x423, 136K)

Doc Louis

Sukapon should've been in, good retro rep

Bandana waddle dee

Doomguy

I'm sick of shotas, Smash needs more lolis.

Attached: 1474169225963.jpg (792x1224, 237K)

Wasn't there something with the Sonic comics where Sonic couldn't be shown losing a fair fight?

I want Tails, but he always looks helpless in the modern games, and part of me wonders if SEGA wouldn't want him to look strong and capable in Smash.

Bandana dee,laboman,porky,steve,and mimikyu

Attached: 4F7C262B-4A78-4CAF-9A74-6A9FE7E7B1BD.png (195x258, 72K)

This or some rep for the Rhythm-based style of game, like the Elite Beat Agents or Tempo.

Attached: 1416868180289.jpg (1280x720, 341K)

Attached: caco.png (420x420, 230K)

Here's an obvious echo choice. F-Zero's had one character for 20 years, I don't think this is asking for too much.

Attached: literally a clone.jpg (1000x1699, 102K)

I'd like Tails.
There are certainly characters I like more and would enjoy playing as more, but if Smash is supposed to be a love letter to gaming, I think he'd be a good entry.
I've also noticed that it feels like he's been kinda neutered in terms of what he's capable of, so I wonder what his moveset could be.

Attached: Taiouge2.jpg (640x480, 54K)

Isn't he a pallete swap?

This and OP are the only correct answer.

Do you think characters that already have spirits are less likely to get in?

Attached: chun__6df7013ee005971374d69465e46836d7.jpg (816x1159, 269K)

Yes and no. His jacket says blood falcon and he has the color scheme. But he also has skulls where the falcons would be, and would use a different car in his final smash.

I can see some semi-clone traits off of Sonic, since he also does the spin dash. I could also see his up b working like K Rools.

Notable first-party omissions:
>Dixie Kong
>Rhythm Heaven character
>Dark Matter/Bandana Dee
>Black Shadow/Samurai Goroh/Jody Summer
>2nd WarioWare rep
>Tingle
Personally I think Punch-Out should get another rep, or at least a semi-clone (Doc Louis, King Hippo, or Glass Joe) though that's mostly my own bias.

Attached: 1407470971632.jpg (268x265, 30K)

Based bandana bro btw i am
Anyways i hope you have a good day!

It probably has zero effect on their chances

Lucas is from a game with rhythm mechanics in attacking,we already have a rhythm game rep.

Attached: 6F193480-6EBD-4990-BD26-B22A1A8875E9.png (1136x640, 1007K)

Almost everything ever thought to hurt chances later ends up being debunked except for assist trophies.

Bandana Dee isn’t as good as some freshly sliced melon.

Paper Mario
Isaac
Ashley
Dixie Kong

Some non-meme choices

DIXIE KONG in the number one completely unacceptable that they're not they're spot

Porky

-long gap-

Vaati

Mona from WarioWare

Phoenix Wright

Attached: 4o2DNVu.jpg (203x219, 16K)

It's pretty obvious that Sakurai favors things from the Kirby games he directed. Yes, Bandana Dee may have debuted in Super Star, but the character was not relevant until a decade later.

Caw...

Attached: 0C7D0E05-2CA1-4EBB-8652-1870A4EB30AF.jpg (500x375, 23K)

Resetti should've been in alongside Villager back in Sm4sh

Attached: F5A49C0D-FD3D-46B8-B0CC-F291C2ECB212.jpg (750x560, 290K)

Its sad.But nintendo making the list with promotion (they have promoted bandana dee alot recently along with kirby) gives me hope

Attached: 248FBC2B-CA77-4576-84EF-B2699252C426.jpg (624x640, 100K)

Why aren't Nintendo saying something about this? Is it even allowed to have such a huge bias and ignore all the newer stuff?

Dixie is the only first party where it's really baffling that she's never made it in. Personally I hope that they make her a tag team character with Diddy like they were originally planning. The banana is such a copout fucking move.

Another Zelda character that isn't a clone would be another no-brainer since there hasn't been one since Melee. There's no one single frontrunner but Skullkid, Midna/ Midna and Wolf Link, Tetra and Ganon are all well liked and good choices. Also Tingle

These are the biggest 1st party characters left out imo maybe along with a RH rep

Attached: FD62FF8F-7E0C-45C2-90B6-C5B2F943A463.png (1200x1200, 432K)

Oh, hey...you still kept this? I'm the one who drew that

even with K. Rool in, DK is absolutely robbed in terms of representation. The series has sold 75 million over all of it's games and yet only has 3 slots.

It saddens me to say it, but the perfect opportunity for Dixie was in the K. Rool trailer. She will not be a DLC.

Not to mention that it took 4 games and an official ballot for K.Rool to even get in.

You should make more user

Echo fighters are the worst, so fuck that.

>literally the only mario rpg representation(besides some songs and stickers/trophies) is a paper mario stage

but yeah let's add another 20 things for Uprising.

Attached: 1396045842626.jpg (200x253, 14K)

I still really don't understand how he never made it in especially in the game with three Links.

Just these two.

Dixie Kong's absence is baffling

Only came out in one game which was pretty obscure until that fan translation came out. Would like to see him or Richard as mains but I don't think he'll get past through the assist trophy category unless they remake the game.

Attached: 69104912_p0.png (1000x1000, 374K)

Dixie has earned a spot on the roster but I can't help but feel that DK also deserves an arcade rep. That's where a big chunk of this 75 m
illion
came from, and as much as I prefer the Country games it's what DK as a franchise is mostly known for.
So let's compromise and put the OG DK in.

Although that's just characters, the series still needs some levels that are actually in the games bar 75m (even just bringing back the Returns stage would be fine) and Tropical Freeze music.

Attached: crankymoveset.jpg (975x820, 116K)

It just the very fact that it would have taken almost next to no effort to do. Yet they still didn't.

I know Smash Bros isn't exactly straightforward with character selection, but if we're talking about "important" characters that still aren't playable in Smash Bros, the biggest one of all would probably be pic related

Attached: toad.jpg (1400x1400, 76K)

Where the FUCK is Ms. Pac Man?

Attached: MsPacMan_4.jpg (534x470, 53K)

Dixie should have been part of a tag team with Diddy, but it's too late now. Team up moves, plus switching who's leading to change their specials, would have been great. Like a mix between Ice Climbers and Pokémon Trainer.

>barrel rolling projecticle

It would be so satisfying

Attached: 1322784597002.jpg (400x299, 15K)

>still getting mad over things from Uprising when they're the easiest things to put in because Pit's VA is available and the others got replaced so they don't have to go through union bullshit

The most glaring first party omissions are Dixie, a Zelda rep that doesn't have a triforce, and Toad but we'll sooner see Geno in smash before him.

Cranky or pic related would be great

Attached: 7B24EF46-D1B7-4D2E-9E51-43D658438A54.png (729x870, 19K)

These are the only ones I believe to really be "necessary" with everyone else after that being cool additions that would be great but aren't mandatory reps for Nintendo or their respective franchise.

Maybe throw in a 4th Kirby rep, but I'm willing to admit bias and it might not really be "necessary".

fellas, hear me out here...

Attached: jumpman.jpg (350x486, 37K)

First thing I’d do is fix pic related

Attached: 56D3A503-B01E-4094-BEF6-DF062CC23259.jpg (617x829, 569K)

> ctrl+f
> No Meowth

What the fuck Yea Forums? he should have been in since 64/Melee.

Attached: dribbbe_meowth-01.png (800x600, 75K)

Dixie Kong
Banjo and Kazooie
Excitebiker
Balloon Fighter

That's it, those are the only characters who feel like omissions at this point.,

Should have been in instead of Jigglypuff.

I think he should've been in over Jigglypuff but it's sacrilegious to say that

We already have DK Jr, had him since N64.

Should have been in over Jp, but fuck adding anymore pokemon now.

Someday gen 3 will get some love. Some day.

Attached: sceptile.png (200x203, 47K)

Terra & Crono are the only protagonists of two of the 10 highest rated games that still aren't in Smash. So them

This 100%

And like, specifically team rocket’s meowth

Fuck you it should be swampert he got shafted in pokken

Fucking this, although the optimal timeline is that we have Meowth and Jigglypuff.

>Crono
Fuck off

what character would've been excluded in place of him?

Here are the mathematically, objectively "omitted" fighters. Characters who had games that sold amazing on Nintendo platform but still aren't included. If they're not on this list, they're not actually omitted, you just feel like they are.
>Tetris -> Tetrominoes
>Donkey Kong 3 -> Dixie Kong
>Sonic Adventure 2 Battle -> Shadow
>Banjo-Kazooie -> Banjo and Kazooie
>Goldenye 007 -> James Bond
>Excitebike -> Excitebike retro rep
>Golf -> NES sports retro rep
>Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door -> Paper Mario
>Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald -> Gen 3 fighter
>Pokemon Black and White -> Gen 5 fighter

Attached: console top 10 breakdown.png (3752x2224, 598K)

oh ESPECIALLY specifically team rocket's meowth

Jr. is modern DK’s dad

In a perfect world none, and he’s just apart of the family. I honestly can’t say who would’ve been excluded because I’d rather not see any character excluded.

Also, if you want to be technical
>Super Smash Brothers -> Fighter to represent the series

no, DK Jr is DK, DK's dad is a missing Kong that we've never seen in between Cranky and DK Jr.

Cranky is the original DK you tard

Wish they'd bring in some classic 3rd party characters.

Attached: earthworm_jim_by_zeefster-d46dp3z.png (800x936, 213K)

Let's hope that the Link's Awakening remake can possibly give Frog Bell a remake, Richard is in it and both games had the same engine.

Attached: DzYMruaVYAAXcjc.jpg (696x1000, 144K)

For Wii Sports, they should make a new Mii class of "Mii Athlete" or something.
The default mii for the class would be Matt

sakurai probably thought shadow wouldn’t feel right with sonics move set

For the list I just counted any game with Mii's as the player characters as being represented by the Mii fighters. And anything Wii branded with no Miis to be Wii Fit Trainer's.

this. maybe even a clayfighter

Tetris would work better as a stage or AT desu

You posted her. Dixie should have been included when smash 4 released given that she was a main playable character in Tropical Freeze

sega is so anal about sonic’s brand yet it doesn’t stop them from making abhorrent games that permanently tarnish sonic’s brand

Link and Zelda are fine. Sheik is a weird popularity pick mostly added because of Ocarina and nothing else. YL doesn't really need to exist.

Ganon, yeah he's fucked. It's amazing how after all these years they still refuse to fix him.

I mean anything's possible but it's not a good look so far when our first two fighter pass characters (Joker and "Brave", presumably a Dragon Quest character) have no notable presence in the base game.

I feel like Sakurai knew that the DLC lineup for this game was gonna comprise mostly of third party characters so he went ahead and accounted any remaining big name Nintendo characters that didn't make the base roster with assist trophies, Mii Fighter outfits, and of course, spirits.

If (and that's a BIG if) there's a second fighter pass, then things may be different. But as it currently stands I'm pretty sure all we're getting from here out are third parties. And if there's any first party characters it will probably be a promotional one like a new Shillmon from Gen 8

Put Lip in Smash I don't give a fuck

Attached: 3GZtTZeRbq-2.png (300x250, 48K)

>man it sure is convenient that all the easy to stuff to add just so happened to be from Sakurai's games

Just admit he's biased. You can still like Uprising and Super Star, I do.

Attached: 1379208179840.jpg (138x171, 12K)

we already have a slower cap clone in ganondorf. what would blood falcon do that ganon didn’t?

Sheik isn’t really all that popular and Young Link makes sense but is literally just a 3rd Link. I don’t have a problem with Ganondorf other than the fact pic related isn’t an alt

Attached: 75686C09-E4DF-420B-9E4C-573C7A670644.png (966x948, 871K)

Isn't it because Sakurai is a Ganon main?

all the dlc was planned in development so yes. although things might be diffeeent if we get a second fighters pass

>Sheik isn’t really all that popular
Sheik isn't popular NOW. But remember, she was in the game since Melee. The 64 still wasn't that long ago and Ocarina of time was still fresh in peoples memory.

She is essentially a remnant of her time.

tetris should’ve been either a stage or AT like back in brawl

Tweak the moves to make the moveset more blood falcon's style; make his downtilt a slide like cloud's, a shorter, faster falcon kick maybe, his falcon punch would be multihit. Make his emphasis neutral rather than air, his final would have the Bloodhawk and launch horizontally

>The Cap clone is less of a clone then Ganon
I feel like Sakurai won't do that because he knows he's just going to end up getting bomb threats.

I think they 100% are not getting in unless there is a season 2.

I believe in him, if we get just one more F-Zero character I'll never ask him for anything again. Especially if my main gets in

Attached: gdmjf.jpg (512x288, 23K)

She'd be a lot more popular if she wasn't gutted from 4 to Ultimate. Also fuck the haters but Zelda and Sheik should still be linked through down b, two movesets in one is always preferable to one new move for each

Ironically Geno.

Attached: 1543070713101.png (512x512, 324K)

It probably costed Nintendo a couple hundred thousand just for Square Enix to let them use a PNG picture of him. It ain't happening.

He also isn't really "essential" since we have Paper Mario as the obvious Mario RPG representative.

I recall this idea floating around, was one of my favorites along with Centipede. It's cool but I'm just biased towards Cranky.

Attached: crankyssecret.png (291x299, 223K)

I love Cranky but in terms of DKC rep Dixie really deserves it.

You say that now but people would bitch endlessly if Shiek got cut. It's just like the Ice Climbers.

I'm saying he should be in in addition to Dixie. I think she and an arcade rep are the only things DK needs to have perfect character representation. It hurts because I love the Funkman, but at the end of the day we don't need him in smash.

I want Mach Rider to get in with a design that's a mix of the Melee trophy and original design, modernize the character the same way they did Pit
Then make Mach Rider: Unchained like that one fake leak from years ago, that sounded baller af

Attached: 6ecef471-7978-429d-886e-37f49521f3af.jpg (600x764, 181K)

That’s true. Would anyone care if ZSS were cut? She’s pretty much pointless.

Attached: sakurai bias.png (1255x258, 49K)

Make ZSS a victory animation for normal Samus.
People would get mad at this sadly

Attached: 1548872731370.png (256x137, 11K)

What do you guys think of my ideal Smash roster.

For some reason this roster reminds me of pic related

>Bio Rex AND Peter Griffin

Attached: 7BADE7B4-A51F-40BD-A327-250FED7B7EB1.jpg (987x954, 181K)

The quality of it reminds me of those fake Smash rosters you see in the early-mid 2000's.

here's a few

Attached: epic smash bros roster.png (2259x669, 3.76M)

Nah, just his jacket and pants. Blood falcon has spikes on his shoulder, a skull on his helmet, pointed boots, and FANGS

I don't know what gameplay difference he would have. Based on his racing machine he'd have faster speed and worse traction.

Who?

In terms of what we got to work with for Smash 6 going forward. I'd say we at least wont get a heavy dose of anime swordsman.

Attached: Roster 6 Line.jpg (2048x1024, 1.15M)

Ashley and Skull Kid should probably switch spots or something

I don't really get how the fuck he didn't make it in when he's literally one of the most(if not the most) popular adaption to Mario.

We're most likely getting a Three Houses character if we don't get one as DLC here.

Because the game follows the game's canon instead of the anime's. It's the reason we have Red instead of the 10x more well-known Ash.

>Pikachu
>Mewtwo
>Maybe Lucario

>Swanky Kong
somebody give me a moveset

Then why the fuck is Lucario in the game?

The reason Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, Lucario, and Greninja are in the game is so they can shill the anime.

I want Dixie to give me a footjob with those handfeet

>Projecting Mario fan
Have fun with your bowsette shit.

where's Classic DK+DK Jr., TRF?
you promised

Team Rocket (Jessie and James) is in Pokémon Yellow and LGPE though. Meowth just doesn’t speak in either. They could very well still use anime influences when canonically Mewtwo and Lucario shouldn’t have voices with speaking lines.

But some of the playable Pokemon are directly based on ones from the anime. All their voices also come from there.
The games show that an ordinary Lucario can't speak. Only the one from the movie does.
Smash never even calls Red by his actual name, but they mentioned Ash and the anime opening in his trophy description.

The reason why they're in is because of the anime.

I don’t think Sakurai intends on keeping them out forever when he makes a spirit, it seems obvious all the DLC will be big name third parties like Steve or Joker as opposed to anything as crazy as K Rool.

Mach Rider would be great,

Forgot to add a “but” in there.

Why would Trump's penis be a character wtf

So why does Nintendo care more about the anime's canon than the game's?

Merch.

Because Pokemon, alongside DBZ and Sailor Moon were the Big 3 of the 90s and are the reason billions outside of Japan are into anime to this day. Pokemon was literally the first anime for 90% of the world and is Nintendo's most popular product outside of Mario.

>those taunts
I never knew i wanted anything more in my life.

It has always and will always be retarded that they refuse to recognize the Pokemon anime in Smash when it's a huge part of why Pokemon became a sensation and they blatantly have used the anime for at least half the Pokemon's inclusions anyway. (Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Pichu, Mewtwo, Lucario, and Greninja)

It's fucking ass having Pikachu, Jigglypuff and Mewtwo in the game while entirely skirting around why they are so iconic.

>those hands
yikes

This artstyle has a lot of S O U L

Fuck that guy

The english trophy descriptions for 4 namedrop Ash in the X and Y trainers' trophy and various elements of the anime (Mewtwo's lines in Japan, Misty's outfit in her Melee trophy, etc).
It's at least more transparent than, say, that Luigi color scheme that came from that ancient anime movie.

I'd like to see a Pokemon Gen 3 and 5 fighter that aren't starters, just to see who they go with

>Dixie Kong
missing core franchise character, Falco to Diddy's Fox
>Paper Mario
existing franchise not yet represented
>Takamaru
last of the '86 quartet to be given a chance at relevance, would honestly prefer a sequel before a smash appearance first though)
>Rhythm Heaven character
No idea who, it's just the fact that there's nothing in the way for a "musical" character in smash. Also a big franchise that just isn't represented.
>Spring Man (Ribbon Girl Echo)
Arms rep, easy said and done. Ribbon Girl as an easy echo because she also shares the boxart billing.
>Max Brass
Ganondorf to Spring Man's Captain Falcon. Easy development implementation while better representing Arms' vast character choices. Being plot relevant is good too.
>Octoling (Inkling echo)
Honestly surprised this isn't in Ultimate already. easy way to inflate the roster, better represent Splatoon, and show off different weapons from Splatoon like Dark Pit does.

Gonna do a third party one as a reply.

what the fuck Sakurai she had PERFECT timing

Attached: space waifu 2.png (303x479, 142K)

Chef Kawasaki would have been a more fun surprise character than piranha plant

She may of had a chance if this was a regular Smash game with 10+ unique newcomers

But considering the focus was on bringing everyone back they didn't have the resources for more minor shit like Geno or Isaac or Elma

And what an absolute tragedy. I'm so glad they spent tons of time on 90 stages no one will play on, and a third link, and second pikachu, and a brain dead singleplayer.

I will never fathom how this game could have only 6 new characters, 4 new stages, almost no 1P content and people still call it a completely new game.

yes

Third Party Boys

>Shadow/Metal Sonic/Tails (echo)
Any of these, but only one. Works as an easy ken/chrom-like echo fighter.
>Eggman OR Dr.Wily
honestly why have Bowser Jr. when you could do one of these instead, I think virtually most people would prefer this.
>Proto-Man (echo)
Mega-Man with Link's shield gimmick. Easy Peasy.
>Banjo-Kazooie
I personally don't like them very much, but they're well wanted and would perfectly please a lot of people. Easily the only one of the lame duck choices (Waluigi, Geno, Ashley, Isaac) that I would argue has any stake in this.
>Doom Guy
Represents FPS history, funny unexpected pick too. Picture this lad with the bunny hood and understand why he needs to be in Smash.
>Erdrick
RPG history, 'nuff said.
>Steve
Memes aside, Minecraft is a very important game. This is a character I can see everyone hating the idea of until Sakurai gives it a creative implementation that represents how the game flow of minecraft works, not unlike how people hated the idea of Villager or Pac-Man being playable characters before actually seeing them work.

That's about it, that's about all the current video game characters I think you could put into Smash without looking into the future.

wat?

>Spring Man (Ribbon Girl Echo)
This D-Lister is Isaac tier (who I notice isn't mentioned on your list, because you realize he's a D-Lister and doesn't quality as an omission)

Recency bias is a helluva drug.

Dixie Kong
(Bandana) Waddle Dee
(Captain) Toad
Waluigi
Any new Zelda character (skull kid, tingle, midna, impa, ganon)
Paper Mario

I feel like that’s about it for truly missing characters, all of these would be in if there were never third parties. Lots more first party characters too but these would all unquestionably be in.

What do you have against ARMS? You write this shit everytime someone talks about Spring Man.

Don't bully Roll.

Attached: 863cbb9f.jpg (796x1200, 121K)

I've never made a post like that before you paranoid retard.

Yeah I don't think people realize just how tight Ultimate's roster was.
Your unique characters were
>the one character so obvious they bundled their reveal with the game's reveal
>one of the most requested characters of all time
>3rd party and fairly obvious choice since things like Sonic, Megaman, and even Pac Man were already in
>another of the most requested characters of all time
>mandatory pokemon
Isabelle is a semiclone and the rest are echoes. Honestly when I look at it like this it's kind of surprising that K. Rool managed to squeeze in, as much as he deserved to.

Attached: 1546906016582.jpg (750x743, 120K)

This. Could literally have been "replace up b with a teleport" and "make his down b a witch time copy" and that's all you need. Only two different moves. Still an echo fighter.

>honestly why have Bowser Jr. when you could do one of these instead, I think virtually most people would prefer this.
As much as I like Dr. Eggman, Bowser Jr. was my second most wanted around Smash 4's release. I just expected him to use his paintbrush as a weapon and to actually be good.

Attached: Admittance is the first step.jpg (1200x882, 87K)

Don't lie, you write that D-lister shit everytime.

Arms was made by the Mario Kart team and did 2 mil. That's not bad for a beginning. They're a major in house Nintendo team, so I can easily see them doing a sequel in the future to fix the problems Arms had too. Not to mention the fact that Sakurai said that Spring-Man (and Rex, who I should've put on that list too, I forgot) would've been shoe-ins for Smash Ultimate if their games came out earlier for the project plan (the source is some famitsu article by the way, I'm not BSing this)

Arms as a franchise is kinda like Pikmin, it didn't really blow the world up like the franchise it way released nearside (animal crossing) but I can easily see them continuing it just for the userbase that does like it. I think Arms gets a bit too much shit because it has to be compared to Splatoon, which is a megahit. 2 mil ain't nothing to sneeze at for a new IP.

Seems to me that there's more than one person on this board that understands that ARMS isn't significant. But only one person going around who doesn't understand that and has to keep being told by everyone else.

Yeah because both of those things on Sonic's moveset don't sound incredibly cancerous or anything.

Fair enough, I'm happy you sort of got your wish.

Prior to Smash 4, I really wanted Eggman in his egg-mobile, so to see Jr. being one of the last characters kinda deflated me a bit. Though I love Super Mario Sunshine, and the little bits of Mario World representation you get out of Jr. and the koopa kids, so I guess it's alright. Rather Jr than Waluigi or Geno. Jr's a good henchie rep.

> it didn't really blow the world up like the franchise it way released nearside (animal crossing)

Funny thing about that is that Animal Crossing didn't exactly blow the world up when it came out, either. The N64 game didn't sell a million (though to be fair, it only came out in Japan super late in the N64's lifespan) and the GCN version sold similar levels to Pikmin. It really wasn't until Wild World where the series exploded into the juggernaut it is today.

Attached: animalcrossingsales.jpg (698x390, 52K)

Gamecube just didn't sell much period. Animal Crossing is the 5th best selling game on the platform. Pikmin is 32nd.

Weegee's Mansion was actually the 5th best seller

How did City Folk sell so little? It had a ton of advertisement if I recall

Portability helps a lot. I guess the comparison I made isn't that analogous, but I feel like there's some truth to it. Animal Crossing is a very simple, casual game, with a lot of character appeal. Splatoon's like this too, it's all about taking these cute characters and dressing them up. Plus, it's a casualized but fun approach on a genre people like but Nintendo fans didn't have much in the way of in their install base. Also, IIRC, the Animal Crossing team is the same team that came up with the Splatoon concept, so that explains a bit of it for me.

In comparison, Pikmin and Arms represent much more gamey/niche genres (RTS sort of, and fighting games kind of) which don't do AS well with casual audiences, but Nintendo spins it around in a way to give them some sort of mass appeal. I mean, take for example that Arms did better numbers than SFV for awhile, that's nothing to sneeze at.

Animal Crossing is the type that benefits from being portable, and didn't the Wii one come with some kind of microphone? So it's really just a better fit for a DS

>Waluigi
>Toad
>Dixie Kong
>Skull Kid
>Ryu Hayabusa
>Paper Mario
>Excitebiker
These are the only ones that strike me odd. Especially Toad and Waluigi. They're pretty iconic.

It just wasn't up to par with the series' standards, the AC team themselves acknowledged this and made New Leaf a better game for it

animalcrossingworld.com/2013/01/iwata-talks-disappointing-animal-crossing-city-folk-reception-and-sales/

Didn't really do anything new. Plus, there's more appeal to having a portable animal crossing than their is having a home console version. It's very much a game you can play for 5 minutes on the train, or for hours in your bed.

It is VERY obvious how tight the roster was, which in my opinion is not good for a smash game at all.

They can't really change the core gameplay that much anymore so the only way to truly make the game fresh is to add new characters, the originality in the Smash4 characters was what made the game so cool. And yet here is SmashU with only 5 real new characters.

Weegee was 4th
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_GameCube_video_games

Yeah it's pretty slim pickings in terms of Nintendo characters anymore. Unless you really want shitlords like Waluigi. Gladly prefer Cloud or Simon any day.

>he doesn’t know
youtu.be/rOFzB91QKTs

Dixie Kong - Could echo Diddy Kong or be a semi-clone.
Cranky Kong - Would have to be unique
Waluigi - Perfect rep for Mario sports games.
Isaac - Geomancer that can cause earthquakes and hurl boulders with his mind with a giant ghost hand. Also teleports and could grow roots to trap foes. Playable in pretty much every smash brothers flash fan game ever due to his vastly unique moveset unlike any other character.
Captain Syrup - The obvious second Wario rep.
Impa - Sheik echo or alternatively a unique character with a big sword instead.
Skull Kid - Unique spellcaster
Tom Nook - Semi-clone of Isabelle and Villager
Edelgard - Spellcaster who uses axes.
Captain Toad - Unique moveset

3rd parties:
Banjo & Kazooie - Probably by far the most glaring omission for 3rd parties.
Bomberman
Shadow
Anyone from Dragon Quest
Monster Hunter

some Wario rep, though to be fair, the only Wario reps I could see even being considered would be Ashley, Jimmy T.,Syrup or Mona, while not an Ashley-fag, she really seemed like the most considered choice only due to popularity on the internet, but I'd prefer Mona if I had to choose.

Attached: mona.jpg (1280x720, 218K)

The upside is if you want someone else on the ballot their chances seem decent for next game unless a lot more characters gain ground. At the moment seems like it'd just be Rex and Springman for new stuff as fighters.

For the Kirby side, Marx, Dark Matter, or Adeleine.

Give me Adeleine.
The other two have spirits.

Attached: 16191569125.png (256x256, 49K)

Not really obvious, but I would not mind a Metroid bounty hunter getting in. Of course I'm more than happy with how the roster is currently though

Attached: sylux_render_by_nibroc_rock_dctat7i.png (2500x2500, 3.18M)

Well, fortunately we probably got another 5-6 years until another smash, that's enough time for Nintendo to have more new franchises. If Splatoon and Arms are anything to go off of.

is this post ironic

Dixie should be a Lucas tier clone. Nearly identical but play very differently as soon as touch the A button

only Marx there really seems obvious or likely

Attached: 1542924666168.png (1275x1920, 3.64M)

Newflash buddy, it’s not just mario fans that know sonic is shit

I still hold hope for Adeleine or Dark Matter since they both got pretty high revival due to the reaction both have recieved.

>Interviewer: You probably don’t want to think about a sequel right now but…
>Sakurai: Yeah…for now, I don’t need to think about one so I won’t, but… I think we’d be fine waiting about 10 years until the next one (laughs)

Same boat here, although I'm glad the impossible happened with Ridley finally being part of the roster.

honestly I can wait 10 years for another Smash. It'd feel much more special. Waiting for Brawl to come out after Melee was such a time. Such a Japan Time. It felt really special.

Holy shit

Dixie Kong and another Zelda rep are pretty much it for first party characters. There are plenty of others I'd love to see but I'll admit they're nowhere near as important.
As for third parties, Bomberman, Banjo, and a Dragon Quest rep seem like no-brainers. They all feel right at home in a Nintendo game. Maybe throw in Crash for the 90s rivalry like Sonic and Cloud.

It's gonna be a downgrade rosterwise though

if they can shake up the mechanics good I'm fine with that.

I'm fine with the roster being trimmed a bit, most of the characters I like (outside of pokemon trainer and the hardware reps like WFT, Duck Hunt, and ROB) feel like locks for the next game.

Attached: contextsensitive.jpg (1024x494, 56K)

Dixie isn't in because nobody is actually excited about the idea of playing as her, she's just some pick people go to because "DK needs more representation".

ZERO

Attached: Zero.png (197x255, 62K)

King Boo. He was the logical next Mario pick but I guess Sakurai wanted to have some fun designing an unusual moveset for Piranha Plant.

Nobody fucking cares about King Boo another dumb contrarian pick.

I don't mind. Even as a Fire Emblemfag, I'd gladly have all the fucking Sword Lords cut. Though it's too late for Fire Emblem, Roy and Ike have ascended from being FE reps, they are now Smash reps. Hell, Smash Roy doesn't even resemble FE Roy anymore.

Not really. He checks most of the boxes people usually bring up.
>unique body type and powers (not another human)
>relevant and living character
>villain
Only problem is that he's a Mario character and there are probably quite a few people who don't want any more of those.

Everybody in the world has the same bias when it comes to Kirby.

I think we'd sooner see Captain Toad with a moveset primarily based around Treasure Tracker than just plain-ass Toad.

Yeah I gotta admit, Dixie wouldn't make for a hype trailer or anything like that. She would've fit better in K. Rool's trailer if anything.

DK's characters are largely garbage, and get forgotten by its own franchise just as quickly.

Echo fighters don't get trailers anyway.

How would you punch a ghost?

>doesn't take any events in his game seriously
Was there a more based FF protagonist?

The same way you do in SM64.

KEN KEN KEN KEN
RICHTER RICHTER RICHTER
(You)

The problem is that there wasn't a good place to put her. Do you put her at the start or middle and interrupt the cinematic trailer to show off her gameplay? Or do you squeeze her in at the end even though K. Rool was set up to be the big finale of the direct?
The trailer was all about K. Rool, it would have to have been significantly changed to accommodate Dixie and even if it was changed one massive blowout reveal like K. Rool suited the timing better.

Fair enough, yeah. Point being though, who else is left for a hype trailer? (I'm & and while I'd love shit like Takamaru, I can't lie, I don't think there's much in the way left for hype trailers, other than Doom Guy)

Based

>tfw cranky kong will never have a trailer thats just him being old
>tfw cranky kong will never have a trailer where he drags the children by the ear to lecture them about how stuff was back in his day
why do you make me want stuff that will never happen.

Attached: cyanide.jpg (504x470, 98K)

You could just squeeze her in at the end, like how Dark Pit shows up in Palutena's trailer. It wouldn't even be the first time Dixie came to DK and Diddy's rescue.

He has an assist

Yeah but that would take some of the oomph out of K. Rool. You've got to recall what a big deal K. Rool was in smash speculation. Dixie didn't show up in K. Rool's trailer for the same reason Dark Samus didn't show up in Ridley's trailer.

you got me there

If enough people want a character to happen, maybe it will someday. I'm just trying to put the thought of Cranky in peoples' minds.

Attached: voteKRool.jpg (680x996, 110K)

Attached: king_boom_boo_spooky_render_by_nibroc_rock_dbshrba-pre.jpg (894x894, 174K)

I don't necessarily think it'd take the oomph out, just like how Zero Suit Samus showing up at the end of Ridley's trailer doesn't necessarily invalidate the hype of Ridley.

This'd how I'd do it. That little gameplay bit where K Rool stomps on DK and Diddy at the end? Literally just have Dixie run on screen and dash attack him or something. Just a cheeky little hint.

I can still hear his voice

Attached: F2BD8E87-F3E1-45A2-8C3A-487F0C01C5B4.gif (216x429, 44K)

you lost you cuck puppet, go home

See I kind of like that, but then it feels like Dixie doesn't get her due. And it's not really a "cheeky little hint," that's just a reveal but without the pomp and circumstance. Imagine if during Ridley's trailer Simon was walking backwards up some stairs behind him and then later you got a png on the website that said "btw guys Simon Belmont is in."
I'd just as soon put her in another character's trailer if they feel that she's not big enough for her own. She might not be the main draw there either but she'd almost certainly feel like less of an afterthought.
I don't know, I guess it's a matter of opinion but K. Rool's trailer and the leadup to it with the cannonfire and villain reel feels too devoted to one character for me to feel like it'd be ok to shove another in there for convenience's sake.

Attached: DKC2treasure.jpg (1018x1276, 169K)

She'd get the same reveal as Dark Samus and Chrom where it's just some gameplay.

That goes back to the point I made earlier though, everyone already nutted to K. Rool being resurrected, it feels wrong to say "oh btw here's Dixie" at the end. The entire direct and trailer have peaked. There's no way you can spin it to not have her on the downswing.
Again, you could probably make it work with a different trailer and different circumstances.

Attached: cliffsideslide.png (1071x500, 491K)

It's pretty jarring we haven't had a brand new Zelda rep in almost twenty years.
Also, Ultimate not getting a retro character feels weird. I know, I know, "muh patterns", but it was pretty neat seeing obscure characters from super old games returning.

On the other end of things, Rex felt like a guaranteed character for Ultimate, so him not getting in feels strange even though I really, really don't give a crap about the character.

>It's pretty jarring we haven't had a brand new Zelda rep in almost twenty years.
It's really not because Zelda is complete. Any new addition from the series would be a quota character.

Fucking this, "X needs a new rep" is not ever going to be a good reason to put a character in the game.

They've literally done it before though, I mentioned with Dark Pit & Palutena earlier.

Mind you, I'm not saying Palutena's trailer is the same hype level as K Rool, but I will have you know that I did nut, my good man.

Attached: __palutena_super_smash_bros_ultimate_and_etc_drawn_by_kevvv__sample-c5828be134fe2f31b9b4b5d74cd97c5e (850x1198, 120K)

Man I really wanted a DK stage where every fighter in the game fought in silhouette with one random bit (hat, hair, clothes) being colored in. Labor intensive as fuck but it would've been cool.

Do people actually unironically want Steve for Smash Bros? Because I can't really think of a moveset that would work for him

>not getting a retro character
Frankly I don't know if he still shows up in the franchise but he is an NES icon. Really a no brainer and perfect fit for the series

Attached: 1520883108219.gif (388x200, 8K)

Then you are an uncreative fuck, Steve has a ton of moveset potential.

Pig Ganon could work since he's more prevalent than Dorf is, but it raises the question of whether or not Sakurai should spend time making a fifth or sixth heavyweight for a series with five reps already.

Stop asking for characters that have nothing significant to do with Nintendo.

With that logic, every Mario character added after Brawl and every Pokemon that isn't from Gen 1 shouldn't be here.

Loli Samus for smash.

Oh sorry

Kawaii

I'm honestly surprised it's taking so long. A character from the Dragon Quest series is perfect for smash. Hugely important to video games, hugely important to Nintendo, high selling, fits the aesthetics perfectly, plenty of great choices for characters to the point that you just can't go wrong.

Attached: !!e!UzmgEWM_$(KGrHqN,!gsE0v9klg4FBNP3sz7DFg___1.jpg (191x266, 41K)

Not him, but Rosalina appears in spin-offs and was in Galaxy 2, Bowser Jr appears in all the NSMB games, and Piranha Plant is a classic enemy that appears in all the games.
Likewise, Chrom is the face of modern Fire Emblem. The most popular Zelda candidates for inclusion, Skull Kid and Midna, only had substantial roles in one game.
Personally I wish Zelda would have more fighters, but it explains 80% of Zelda reps being two(three?) characters.

To be honest I wasn't a fan of that either, forgot to mention it. It works better for something that is obviously a nonplayable little extra, like Yellow Devil at the end of Mega Man's trailer.
That hype is a part of the circumstances I'm referring to. I liked Uprising and I was happy to see Palutena, but nobody was crying tears of joy over her reveal. K. Rool and Ridley were legendary in the smash community and Sakurai knew it, so he gave them each their own trailer. That's the peak I was referring to. When DK and K. Rool punch each other, the trailer is over, the direct is over, an entire era of smash speculation is over. Palutena doesn't have that same pull and frankly Dark Pit doesn't even have the same pull as Dixie so Dark Pit being shoehorned in at the end doesn't feel as off. There's also the fact that, since he was only animated, what DP was was ambiguous: was he an AT, character, stage hazard, or something else entirely? Dixie cartwheeling in, sending K. Rool flying, and blowing some bubblegum for a taunt doesn't make you wonder if she's in, it makes you wonder why they're not showing more of her or when they'll get around to giving her a proper introduction.
This is all personal opinion of course, and I think we'll just have to agree to disagree.
Yeah, Cliffside Slide seemed like the perfect choice too, considering it wasn't another jungle and showcased what Tropical Freeze was about so well. Love me some Sunset Shore and especially Busted Bayou though.

Attached: DonkeyKongCountry.jpg (869x600, 92K)

Man, the hype over K. Rool makes me think of how huge it would be if a certain bear and bird also made a comeback. Even with all these circumstantial things happening it still feels impossible.

Attached: WinkySteve ultimate.png (589x189, 14K)

If we're talking 64 and Melee, then every other Rare series.

Attached: 1550482523080.jpg (184x184, 13K)

I think they meant more in the vein of someone like Duck Hunt or Game & Watch, someone who sort of "died" in that era. Castlevania still had a big legacy after it. Someone like Sheriff or Excitebiker (I know there's more "Excite" games but as far as NES icons go, the biker has some nostalgia power).

I've got some basic shit that's interesting IMO.

Neutral special is placing a block, let's say you can only place 4-8 at a time. Enemies can easily break them, but you have a harder time without a pickaxe. Randomly varies from dirt, stone, and the ore blocks, maybe obsidian too. You get a little mini hud to tell you how many ores/stone you got. You can use these blocks to create some space between you and your opponents and annoy them. If you place them on the edge of the stage you could potentially even edgeguard them.

Side special is ender pearl. A weird move, mix of a recovery and a projectile! If you throw it out of bounds it takes awhile to respawn. Don't use it when recovering low, you'll just hit the side of some stages.

Up special is a stack of sand. Just like in Minecraft, you place a stack of blocks below you to get a better view point. Because it's sand though it just falls and collapses. Not great for horizontal recovery, the blocks hurt players below you but you're vulnerable from the top.

Down special is crafting. Depending on your materials you've gotten from mining your blocks, you can upgrade your tools for more damage+knockback a la inkling's ink mechanic.

standard jab is just a punch, terrible damage and not good for breaking blocks.

f tilt is pickaxe, good quick attack. Starts out as wood, you can upgrade it with stone, iron, diamond.
up tilt is axe cause you're typically aiming up to cut trees, follows the same upgrade system.
d tilt is shovel since you're aiming down, 20% chance to bury, increases if you upgrade it.

F smash is bow, just think of it like mega-man's The others can be sword you can upgrade I guess?

I can't really think of any interesting aerial attacks for Steve, but I think you could probably just BS those. I think at the character's core though, there's a lot of potential.

Hi Tad

Its better than having 2 fucking spindashes

If Paper Mario is not in the DLC I'm going to be legitimately bewildered. There's so much you can do with him too.

Seems cool

that riptide trident spin could be a good nair

>the Paper Mario stage is one of those shitty transforming stages
>only one out of its 3 forms represent an actually good PM game
>the Battlefield and Omega forms restrict you to the Sticker Star form

Why do Paper Mario fags feel so entitled?

they are entitled in the same way a doting father is entitled, in that he expects better from his son, because when his son does his best the results are excellent.

Akira & Bomberman
Many people have mentioned a desire to see another character from a fighting game franchise in Smash: Whether it be Morrigan from Darkstalkers, Heihachi from Tekken, Nightmare from SoulCalibur, Yoshimitsu from both, or Terry from Fatal Fury/King of Fighters. Even before his reveal as an Assist though, Akira never really popped up, and its a damn shame: We owe a lot to Virtua Fighter: The father of 3D Fighters and one of the earliest instances of 3D Polygons being used in games. It's a damn shame the series is dead right now.
Bomberman also has quite a bit of legacy behind him: Easily one of the most sampled games out there, nearly everyone has played Bomberman at least once, and any gamer should be able to recognize the classic Bomberman environment & structure with blocks & bombs. Bomberman isn't only that however: It's also several acclaimed Nintendo exclusives, some still fondly remembered and sometimes discussed on this shithole to this day, and a crossover with Wario. To veteran gamers that have known the days of 2 player restricted co-op or early 4 player co-op, Bomberman also probably is up there among the most fondly remembered local multiplayer experiences, not quite up there with Mario Kart & GoldenEye, but still a reference.

Attached: AkiraVF1.jpg (1280x720, 94K)

Smash Bros. is for Nintendo fans. Characters that aren't from Nintendo or doesn't have sufficient history with them don't belong.

Only 64 and Melee were about "Nintendo All-Stars"

Assists were a mistake

Attached: 55F0E16F-40A6-4000-A3AD-723E80810857.png (960x720, 527K)

Virtua fighter is cool, but I don't think Akira has really any reason to come along, if anything I feel like it'd be Heihachi first. To be honest though the karate gi shit all kind of has the unfortunate comparison of Ryu though.

The only other "big" fighting game lead that doesn't follow the Shoto look is Terry Bogard.

Stop believing this.

That's fair for Akira, i'll give you that. Bomberman however I feel has more than enough of a Nintendo related package to come aboard the Smash Bros roster. These memories of couch co-op i've mentioned are most prominent with Super Bombeman 2 on SNES, or Bomberman 64.
If you want something 1st party I feel is really missing, my choice goes to pic related easily: Dark Matter trilogy is an important side of Kirby's history that shaped the future of the franchise as we know it, and has introduced one of the more recurrent vilains out there, and one that comes with truly evil intentions. It still feels bad to see Sakurai shove Meta Knight as Kirby's vilain at the beginning of K.Rool's trailer: A lot of people can tell something's not right.

Attached: darkmatter.png (263x294, 104K)

Good, Ultimate already has the best characters the videogame industry can offer sans Master Chief or some weird shit like Crash. For the next smash I want a new adventure mode and new gameplay, I'm tired of the same shit.

Might as well go on while i'm at it
> Porky for the same reasons as Dark Matter, except Mother doesnt have anyone that even ressembles a vilain in the current roster. Not as big of a series, but still worth the attention for this reoccuring vilain
> Sukapon is the perfect retro representation: Practically Nintendo's first fighting game character, and one that is visually unique.
