sniper elite
I can't name a single FPS where's fighting snipers has been fun
yes
They're fine as is, at least CS is. The genre has developed ways of dealing with oneshotting snipers (flashes, smokes, good map design), people just need to use them. Removing things like the AWP would keep people monkey-braining their way through firefights rather than looking to create advantages in them, because without the possibility of being plucked due to coming into a corner unprepared, people wouldn't think twice about just how vulnerable they are.
No. Multiplayer FPS's where snipers are a "problem" actually have much bigger problems where removal of one weapon type won't fix anything.
Multiplayer FPSes would be better if all of the other weapons had proper effective ranges that made snipers actually fear for their lives when they were fired upon, not able to just stand out in the open and get a one shot kill while any other kind of weapon will only be scratching them if even hitting them.
Nah, just cut draw distance to like 30m.
CS:GO
>molly towards A site from short
>quickpeek, see awp inside site where the fire won't reach
>flashbang him and run out
>land one bullet on him before he dies in the fire he ran into blind looking for cover
>post the one weapon from the game where snipers rifles are balanced
Tf2 and CS snipers are good and balanced
Why are snipers in counterstrike considered just fine while people in battlefield and CoD hate them?
Battlefield's maps are too open and you can snipe basically anyone from anywhere with nearly no retaliation, and Call of Duty's spawn points are random so you can't know when someone could be sniping you and from where. Counterstrike's greatest saving grace that makes everything feel fair is that it's predictable. In the first three seconds of a Dust2 round, someone will cross through doors, and chances are, an AWP will be watching. You can play around that by changing the timing, making an obstruction, or just being aware of it. You don't have this in other games.
I hate the AWP and autosnipers in CS. I think the Scout is okay though.
Depends on the game, desu. Some balance snipers well, but the major problem with them in most games is the stupid "Well, it's hard to hit so one hit kill", and the fact that they dont have damage ramp up over distance (Which ironically they have irl to a lesser extent) so they are just as lethal close range as they are long range.
In BF, every weapon other than sniper rifles has inherit inaccuracy that not even sighting up, going prone, deploying bipod, and whatever other accurizing things you can do can entirely mitigate. Meanwhile a sniper can be standing (still) and have a perfect 0.0° shot. Beyond just a few tens of meters, it takes upwards of 6-12 shots with most weapons (depending on which BF game) to land to get a kill. Meanwhile a sniper with a bolt action only needs one headshot or two body shots which he is very likely to land since his enemy has to plant their asses and be completely stationary to merely increase the chances of HITTING him not even killing him. With any distance in the big empty maps with not too much cover, a sniper is effectively untouchable against any other weapon beyond 50m, besides maybe a rocket launcher (vehicles not included).
In COD, most bolt action rifles since COD1 are capable of a full health one shot kill to anywhere on the body except for the legs. It takes 0.3 seconds or less time (with perks and whatever) to scope up upon which you get instant perfect accuracy. This ultimately invalidates shotguns and other weapons intended for CQC as you effectively get a nigh-instant kill that beats the ideal Time To Kill of anything else. And of course at a distance, any COD weapon that isn't a sniper or a semi-auto rifle will likely need four or more shots to kill (despite the meme that COD has no recoil, the weapons do in fact kick quite a lot because its your camera that is moving while the gun appears stationary, you will be missing unless you take slowly paced shots).
In CS, you can buy AKs and M4s before you can afford an AWP, and those assault rifles are actually able to contend with the AWP at the rather short max distances that most CS maps offer. They're accurate enough and can skill in a scant few body shots if not one headshot. Despite a slightly more even playing field compared to the above two series, the AWP is still not okay.
I had tons of fun countersniping in BC2 because I was good at judging bullet-drop and would always stay still and re-chamber a round after killing someone, pretending to look for a new target while counting out the 5 second who-killed-me-cam and then relocating so the other sniper would expose himself trying to get revenge with a blind shot at whatever I was using as cover. If I was feeling like a real cunt I'd move right at the end of the watcher cam like I fucked up the count and was going to move farther along the hill then turn 180 degrees and relocate back to the first spot to really annoy a persistent adversary on the second attempt at revenge.
Bad opinions. Sniper rifles simply add gameplay diversity. They offer a unique playstyle to play with, and also a different kind of enemy to fight against.
>gameplay diversity
>unique playstyle
>different kind of enemy
You're just saying it's different but not really explaining why it's good.
It's good exactly because of gameplay diversity. Whether it's overpowered or not is a matter of balance, but offering alternative gameplay opportunities improves the longevity of a game.
Multiplayer games would be better if all full powered automatic rifles dealt the same amount of damage as a sniper rifle like in real life.
There should be at least 1 fps where it's assault rifle vs assault rifle combat only.
It doesn't offer opportunities; it removes multiple other opportunities by being an overwhelming hazard that invalidates a large number of tactics that would otherwise be in play.
i just hate snipers on my BF team for never capping the objectives. guys with DMR’s planting spawn beacons in cool places then fighting for objectives get a pass.
