Phoenix Point decided it should become a FiraXCOM clone after trying to be a subpar X-COM clone.

... I am tentatively hopeful for Phoenix Point, as it seems to have taken the few *good* ideas in FiraXCOM, like displaying your soldier's move ranges, and kept some simulationist elements.

How is the current state of Xenonauts 2 ? Last time some commented that the devs removed modding.

Xcom 2 was announced june of 2015 and came out 8 months later on February 2016, so it's possible it might come out late 2019/ early 2020.

Compared to FFT, XCOM 2 has shallower class customization, but deeper gameplay.

Stuff like angles of attack, line of sight, scouting, etc, all matter. Getting the high ground has a tactical advantage and doesn't just give a flat damage bonus like FFT did (unless you're a sniper who gets bonus damage from being elevated). XCOM is also more difficult than FFT, especially at higher difficulties.

Try it out, you'll probably like it.

Also, you don't have to play 1 to play 2, though the story from 2 carries on from 1.

Canon XCOM 1 ending is you're a retard and aliens take over the world. Actually beating the game prevents the sequel from happening.

both long war iterations have been the most engaged ive been with nu com besides my initial playthroughs, they fit my autismo masochism very well and add some needed depth beyond what jake provides
at least with hundreds of mods ive managed to turn my game into some attempt at a lw2 lite but its still unbalanced and sluggish

as for xenonauts 2 last i heard they were going firaxis style with their base management and the like which im not too sure about
phoenix point looks great but a bit unironically soulless and might lean too heavily into the superhero aspect of nu com that im coming to be wary off

The general consensus is that wotc + mods is better than vanilla + lw2, however personally I think they're about even with lw2 having a slight edge due to personal taste. It has a better strategy layer and does a much better job of making you feel like a guerrilla force, however over time you'll come to notice its flaws and confusing opaque mechanics that wont make themselves apparent until youve been fucked in the ass by them 4 failed campaigns over which still wont make much sense, and as the name implies it requires a lot of free time, and the lack of mission variety can become tedious unlike wotc.
I still liked it a lot flaws and all but wotc has so many fucking mods in terms of classes, enemies, strategy and tactics changes that most people rightly feel that is a better experience.

I never said guerilla warfare didn't fit, I said the atmosphere of it was shit. They could have done a lot more with the guerilla warfare atmosphere but they didn't, so XCOM 2's atmosphere is half-assed as fuck, and thus not as fun to see in action compared to Enemy Within.

I think it's pretty probable it'll come out in September. They delayed it already, sure, but they're making genuine progress, judging by the backer builds, so I think this will be the last delay. Also, the game will release on Steam, which ought to be much easier to deal with than Xsolla.

Got it off of Steam Workshop. It just has basic Galean armor, with emblems for all the VC1 classes. Though I did fudge things a little by making my templar Maximillian in the Artificial Valkyria armor, my reaper Captain Varrot, and my skirmisher Hans.
