Lands of Lore I. It runs on the Eye of the Beholder 3 engine and is just streamlined enough to make it very easy to get into. It's also fully voiced.
>boomer incel: the post
Nice thread OP, curios about the same thing.
Google Elona+. Thank me later.
Any solo ones? Parties are for fagets.
don't really have a favorite but most of the ones I've played range from mediocre to great
come to etrian odyssey general, we post cute girls and have a comfy environment for newbies.
I won't lie Grimrock got me to seriously consider dungeon crawlers, even though I had dabbled in the genre before with Etrian Odyssey and Class of Heroes.
Might and Magic VII. The graphic looks dated but it gives you a lot of freedom, has a lot of actually fun sidequests, and you can break the game in half if you know how to build characters.
Also you can play a dress up game with your female elvish waifus. It also has hot goblin girls
If you like it try VI and VIII.
Do not trust the abducting loli. They are not good people!
Entire King's Field series, but King's Field 2 in particular (pic related). It's made by the same people who made Dark Souls. It's basically proto-DS.
Legend of Grimrock 2 is pretty good and you dont have to play the first one
No, don't trust this man.
Grimoire: Herlads of the Winged Exemplar
If you've played dungeon crawlers for more than a minute this is an obvious trap
They are trying to get you with their cuteness user, dont fall for it. They act all innocent first but then they'll show their true colors.
Cuteness is justice!
might & magic 6
yea it was good
'That might be true but do not use the cuteness for your own gains in corrupting another poor user.
Swords and Serpents
Legend of Grimrock is the only good modern dungeon crawler. Rest is anime shit or boomer-tier.
I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Sold, downloading right now
Etrian Odyssey. It's japanese DC with lolis
I unironically liked MMX, I might be the only person on the planet that did tho
GRIMROCK SHOULD BE TURN BASED
Both Grimrocks are a great start, they are very solid games, one of my favorites. Then you can play Vaporum, if you want more of the same. Don't listen to "real time combat is bad" shitters, those are games not about build optimisation number wankery, but about adventure, exploration, puzzles and secrets. It is more fun to run away from giant spider and fall into the well in haste, than to exchange damage numbers at single screen and then press ''retreat'. More emergent, critics would say. Well, game doesn't take you for a retard, without being overly complex, and nowadays it is enough reason to try it out.
Also you can play as full-insect party, shit was great.
The first one works as a fantastic tutorial for the second, in my opinion. It feels that 2 doesn't explain all the mechanics as well.
I hope so too.
ok gonna play it user.
why is my character underage?
This screenshot looks very familiar, what game is this?
here's a video review actually made by a Yea Forumsirgin:

Sarcastic as fun, but actually fun to watch.
Etrian Odyssey on DS for the atmosphere and insane twists for a game with such a minimalist story. And the draw your map too.
Darkest Dungeon, but that's because I love Lovecraftian bullshit, the way the Narrator sells it and that a dice roll can become a cascading cluster fuck of you lose. Then again I normally play D&D and played in som AD&D so that might be why I can roll with it so well.
>It runs on the Eye of the Beholder 3 engine
Actually the EOB3 engine (aesop) was made in-house by SSI when Westwood parted ways with them. They used the engine again in Dungeon Hack among other games.
The Lands of Lore engine was actually the same used in the first two EOB games and Kyrandia.
I liked it too man, I was just happy to get a new MM game.
Legend of Grimrock 1
Vaporum is almost a carbon copy of Grimrock, but with their own things. There is also Hyakki Castle, don't know if it's good, haven't try it out, but it is japanese without being anime. And you can split party here.
Skyrim.
I've only ever played Grimrock 1 and 2, fucking loved them. Has anybody played any of these? They look similar.
is this a porn game?
Stawcrawlers is fine but its different from Grimrock. Its more traditional turn-based rather than real-time.
MANY FALL IN THE FACE OF CHAOS
If you aren't afraid of difficulty try the dark spire youtu.be
And Megami Tensei 1 and 2 (Not Shin megami tensei it's another thing)
youtu.be
Vaporum is almost as good as first Grimrock. Almost. Star Crawlers is for those people who love JRPG-style turn-based battles, so not quite Grimrock.
No it's not, actually a great Persistent RPG-Rogue like, there's a general on /jp/. You should check the wiki also
FUCK OUT THE WAYYYY
I tried Vaporum. Honestly felt like a bootleg Grimrock, but I'm sure less critical or burnt-out players will enjoy it.
DD is excellent but it's really not the same as exploring a 3D labyrinth.
and it plays like dogshit
Retard here, what's the difference between dungeon crawler and roguelike?
Try Hyakki Castle, maybe it's good, I don't know yet.
Fuck
YOOOOUUUU
Aside from perspective, roguelikes try to find the fun in simulation, and crawlers are all about good level design.
Mechanics and perspective mainly. Roguelikes are about navigating randomly generated dungeons in a gauntlet style endurance test, usually from a topdown perspective, while in dungeon crawlers the dungeons are meant to be handcrafted so players can explore.
Darkest Dungeon sucks penis and is for zoomer autists. Play Etrian Odyssesy instead. It's superior in every way.
starcrawlers is the shit
There is only one place to start.
>DD is for zoomers
>play handheld weebshit instead
Hmmmmmm
This. Fight a true lovecraftian horror.

My favorite is probably still Might and Magic 6.
I finished Rance 6 recently and liked it a lot.
>playing japanese games
yikes! Sorry, I don't speak incel
i started last year too and loving the genre start with the heroes of the monkey tavern veary easy for a starting point next move on to the legend of grimrock saga, then maybe the quest or vaporum, avoid the fall of the dungeon guardians that game is straight garbage
This and Stonekeep are the best dungeon crawlers ever made. Etrian Oddysey is shit
I'm still waiting on a modern dungeon crawler that is as good as these. Grimlock came close but loses because it essentially has no story.
Wait you can use 6 characters on EOIII?
Anvil of Dawn
>Etrian Oddysey is shit
Can you elaborate why? You seem to know your crawlers and I want to try one but I don't know which, also EO always looked like a nice place to start
The wildling class lets you summon beasts as an additional member, plus I think the ninja class can create a duplicate of itself for defense purposes.
Ninjas have the ability to create copies of themselves. The only character he uses is a farmer subclassed ninja so he has some room to create more copy and abuse his shenanigans
Which Wizardry should I start with? 8?
Wait was there a Stonekeep 2 or is this just a mock-up image?
Heroes of the monkey tavern is very easy but fun game vaporum is amazing , star carwlers is mediocre, and avoid the fall of the dungeon guardians that game is garbage
Start with 6 if you want "modern" Wizardry. The originals have SNES and ps1 ports that are considered decent.
Literal meme game.
only wrong answer in the thread
youtu.be
I will never forget this game.
Wizardry IV.
I'm being overly harsh but the EO games have no atmosphere. Play Stonekeep or Anvil of Dawn and you can feel and hear the oppressiveness through the screen. EO has no story other than "explore the big fucking tree" and an overly weeb-ish atmosphere that I just can't stand. Stonekeep has a rich lore and the physical copy even came with a novella to further enhance the experience.
Stonekeep 2 was worked on for 4-5 years without the original designer/programmer Peter Oliphant. It was never released and all we have is this poster and a couple of character models. For more information I highly recommend this informative Matt Chat with Peter:

Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup
NetHack
Brogue
Just as soon as I saw this thread I was installing Legends of Grimrock, what am in for guys?
>EO games have no atmosphere/Story
Which one did you finish ?
I'll give you that there are far better dungeon crawlers in both areas, but some of them (especially the firsts) weren't that lacking. It wasn't complex with deep lore, but don't forget that games like SMT 1 have very minimalistic stories yet good ones.
Alright OP here, guess I'll try out Etrian Odyssey 4 first.
thanks for all anons, Guess I'll hit the general for some questions.
>"It seems that OP's aren't always total fags, I'll have to remember that"
But not this one, not today!
Understandable, gotta admit I'll probably try a couple of the games posted her because they look like fun.
That game is fun as fuck, it was my introduction to the genre. It's not too hard, builds are hard to fuck up and since it's real time you can cheese some encounters by just moving when the enemy is about to attack. Play the sequel too, it has steam workshop for custom dungeons.
Dunno if you'd enjoy 4. I started with the first one but 4 was kinda meh for me. You should ask on /vg/ 's Etrian Odyssey general
Does it come in English? I'm always down for more lovecraftian horror.
Does anyone have the link to the rant?
It's only the Extra boss tho iirc, but yeah they're all in English
Thanks m8, I'll check it out.
Etrian Odyssey games have free demos that transfer the save to the full game. IMO 4 is a pretty good one to check out.
Chaos Strikes Back.
Because you're not a pussy.
I don't know if it's cause i was 8 at the time, but I could not beat stonekeep without the guide, and I'm 99% sure that the game was made with the purpose of selling guides in mind. And IIRC correctly you could put the game in an unwinnable state like 70% of the way through if you missed reading a sign and picked up an item you shouldn't.
What I'm saying is, if someone wants to play this garbage in this day and age, play it for the faerie realm songs.
Orcs and Elves
