How is it possible that FighterZ has both teen and adult Gohan? I hate how this game tries to stay realistic to the canon and then it throws nonsense like this.

This game also has like 7 gokus but this is what you have a problem with?
Adult Gohan is a character, Teen Gohan is only a selectable fighter.
>game tries to stay realistic to the canon
c'mon son, did you played the game?
>giving a fuck about DB canon after the age of 9
I understand the word gets thrown around so much that its lost its impact but you may, honestly, have autism.
>caring about two gohans when there's a rainbow of gokus
KEK
>Why does Smash have both Sheik and Zelda? Are they trying to stay realistic to the canon?
>I hate how this game tries to stay realistic to the canon
what did you mean by this? being serious
if this game was trying to stay realistic to the canon like a third of the characters wouldn't be in due to being dead/not-canon/movie only/or another version of them is already in like you're complaining about
>Mario AND Dr.Mario
What the fuck?
Goku can move around so fast that it just looks like there's more than one of him in different shades of Super Space Warrior.
I hate it too user.
>Four Gokus
>Three Vegetas
>Three Gohans
>Two Android 17's
>Two Piccolo's
Fuck are you smoking
faggot
>he says while posting mario image
>two piccolo's
??????
Bur they're the same age, just different Saiyan forms
Teen Gohan is actually just a kid.
Adult Gohan is actually the teen.
They aren't the same age. You have 20-something Goku and Vegeta, current year Goku & Vegeta, and Goku and Vegeta from two years ago but blue and pink.
Adult Gohan is actually an adult.
Videl + Great Saiyaman is the teenage Gohan.
adult gohan is canonically in game based around super gohan around the tofp arc
"Teen" Gohan is like 10 or 11, Saiyaman is Gohan in his mid to late teens and Adult Gohan is an adult.
Maybe he's referring to Gotenks, but that requires Piccolo being in your team so it's still just one Piccolo.
On that point
>Two Trunks
>I hate how this game tries to stay realistic to the canon
The game that introduces Android 21 as a major character. What are you on about?
might as well complain that yamcha can defeat beerus at this point.
Is this worth getting? I've heard that all the character feel samey.
>I hate how this game tries to stay realistic to the canon and then it throws nonsense like this.
Nigga what? They throw powerlevels out the window and have duplicates of multiple characters in which can all be on the same team. Since when has a Yamcha beating up 3 Gokus been canon? The game also includes blatantly non-canon characters, like Old Broly and Cooler.
The story mode is the only part that attempts some sort of canon. Teen Gohan isn't in the story mode because of it.
now fuck off
Totally canon. Yamcha is the strongest human.
Heh. Not so fast.
Tien is the strongest human, but also the most retarded and not even the strongest anymore thanks to DBS pre ToP arc where he jobs to Master Roshi of all people.
Krillin>Turtle sage (post forest grass)>Tien>Jamchad
He missed out on potential activation on Namek and slacked off before the Androids came.
>Roshi is all sad and shit he can't fight and help anymore cus he's old as fuck on cell saga
>Fights and holds his own easy as shit in tournament of power
Did I miss something between this time that he's back and fighting and shit?
They explain it away by just saying "wow you must've been training in secret the whole time" to wave away his drastic Power level increase.
>this game tries to stay realistic to the canon
Never was, it has all that blue shit and shit from super so it isn’t canon to begin with.
Oh. I was hoping he got de-aged or some shit.
Lazy writing
what is with those heights
No, but he fights Jiren in the manga.
Just go back to Dump Force
Krillin/Roshi = 5'10
Vegeta = 6'
>beerus outraged in the back
god super was so stupid
Some old pervert got closer to attaining ultra instinct than he did so he mad
Yeah, but then he trained with King Kai during the Buu saga and become powerful as fuck.
I don't know why people always forget that.
the manga is not that bad, outside of being rushed (all sagas, not just top) and the goku vs jiren battle not being as good (jiren was handled better as a character but much less hyped/threatening overall)
i hate this image so much.
>goku is canon 5'7"-5'10"
>this image makes krillin and roshi literally 2' tall.
krillin and roshi are short, but theyre not two fucking feet tall.
Roshi and Baba are brother and sister and both immortal. Roshi is a personification of nature, he is also a horny old man. He regains his full power by eating some kind of food Goku and Krillin fetch for him.
Toyotaro is a bad artist, Tori should've chosen Dragon Garou
>can have black and fused zamasu on the same team despite needing black and zamasu to fuse, also zeno killed them
>can have two 17's on one team (18 summons 17)
>can have three fucking gokus/vegetas on the same team
>can have goku and vegeta on the same team as vegito
>we're going to be able to have two brolies on the same team
>we're going to be able to have two fusions of goku and vegeta on the same team
>videl has a pre-battle character interaction with adult gohan despite JUST fistbumping great saiyaman (iirc 18 does the same for ranger 17, despite having 17 in her pre-battle animation)
and yet THIS is the one that bothers you?
also, FUCK teen gohan, why do all of his special moves have so much fucking stunlock
base goku is basically plucked from right before he goes super saiyan for the first time, despite the fact that he talks to jiren if you have them on the same team
It is quite strange for a double splash page to be so fucked up. Splash pages are for big "epic" moments and reveals and you spend more time on them.
>He regains his full power by eating some kind of food Goku and Krillin fetch for him.
Not canon, that's from a movie. Roshi is immortal though.
i don't know if this was in the anime or what but it's definitely not canon
what level of autism is this? they werent even in the story mode so what 'canon' are you talking about? they have non canon characters everywhere. theyre both there to make fans happy.
I was going to be like
>what is foreground and background, ya dingus
but when you're right, you're right
It's from Super filler. Still, non canon tho.
>Gohan's purple gi
Fuck, why would they just make that his default? He flat out looks better in purple than he does orange and blue, plus it makes sense for him to take after the big green alien that taught him most of the shit he knows. Plus you could bullshit it as a sort of call back to the outfit Goku first wore when the series first started.
>this game tries to stay realistic to the canon
>db canon
>Roshi is immortal though
Is that ever explicitly stated or just assumed because the fight against King Piccolo was 400 years ago? Shen/Crane Hermit was the same age.
When are we just going to get confirmation that Gohan and Piccolo are in a gay sexual relationship already? It's so obvious those fags are smashing
>caring about DB canon
>caring about the canon of a fighting game roster of all things
Why do Mexicans love Gohan so much? I must know.
The Gokus/Vegetas/and adult gohan/saiyaman)[/spoiler] are supposed to be different ages? The models look near identical but with a different hair color/SSJ hair style change/Saiyaman outfit. Younger Saiyan saga Goku and Vegeta and Pre-Ultimate Gohan were much slimmer in their respective appearances and in FighterZ they look as bulky as their future counterparts.
Android 21 needs to be canon.
god damn it how the FUCK did i mess up the spoilers that much
How did a human make such insanely powerful androids? Why are they so strong?
I'm mexican and I don't know.
In fact I kind of disliked Gohan as a kid and right now I don't really care for him
>Android 21 needs to be cum on
Fixed that for ya.
Saiyans age a little bit more gracefully than Humans, so Goku and Vegeta looking the same as adults makes sense. At the very least the base form variants are from the Saiyan saga, given their abilities and designs. The other Super Saiyan variants are a bit more murky, I'd say they're the same age just using different transformations.
He looks best in green and black.
They have the cells of all the strongest fighters, and cells = strength I guess?
>How did a human make such insanely powerful androids? Why are they so strong?
That part made no sense. Having Cell be as powerful makes snese, since it uses Freiza and Cold's cells as a base, plus all the Z fighters. But the purely mechanical android 16 is stronger than fucking Cold and Freiza! Imagine if Freiza had tried to conquor earth, and then he got blown the fuck out by Androids 16-20. They all basicaly started off as strong as a Super Saiyan.
Weren't the androids so strong because they could absorb energy? Or am I miss remembering
That was only 19 and 20, which were cyborgs not androids.
>complaining about peak DBZ still getting featured
youtube.com
One of the things I'll forever hate Buu saga for, blue balling me out of some damn good tournament fights.
16 was purely mechanical.
17-18 are cyborgs.
I think 19-20 were pure robots bodies, with one housing Dr. Gero's brain making him a cyborg. They were as strong as a SSJ before they even absorbed any energy.
i seriously don't understand how NOBODY on DB earth knows who the fuck any of the z-fighters are despite them doing shit like this in front of a big crowd, or how nobody knows gohan is the great saiyaman despite being in his clothes without the bandana and sunglasses
17 and 18 are also cyborgs, which is why they have kids
>Imagine if Freiza had tried to conquor earth, and then he got blown the fuck out by Androids 16-20.
Good, take out the Z fighters and we'd get the vastly superior Cyborg 009 series.
why is an android a majin?
androids 17 and 18 didnt need to absorb energy because they have an infinite supply of energy. pretty sure that was the explanation of why they were so powerful. they have infinite energy because reasons.
>Cell
>Peak
Fucking lol. CUM FIGHT BE AT MY GAMES THAT ARENT EVEN GAMES.
Get the fuck outta here.
>17 and 18 are also cyborgs, which is why they have kids
That's just because of bad writing. 19 and 20 had biological parts, the transplanted brains. 16-18 were 100% robot.
How is an android an alien?
abridged did it better desu
thanks doc
So much set up time just to skip all those fights. Honestly, the 8 year time skip was one huge mistake. They've should've just continued where they left off instead of repeating what they did with DB but pussying out of making Gohan the protag at last second and then chewing up a score of good villain material without providing good fights.
Abridged being a legitimate dub and no longer being a joke is a joke.
cell looks custom made but 21 is a majin for no raisin
Funny guy
Nah. 17-18 are just some teens Gero kidnapped, and then turned into killing machines. If Toriyama was a good writer, he'd actually do something with this plot point. Don't they miss their families? Don't they wonder what they were before? Don't they wonder why they can't remember anything before waking up?
21 is the next model of Cell. Same process went into creating 21 as did Cell. This time, instead of just Freiza, Cold + Z Fighters as a base, they threw in Majin Buu. But it looks like the Buu cells are so strong they took over. So we get something that's a Buu plus the power of all the other fighters.
>Dr. Gero uses this tracking device to study Goku and the Z Fighters for years on end. The remote tracking device helps him to collect cells from Goku, Piccolo, Vegeta, Frieza, and King Cold for the creation of Cell, as well as to collect data from the other Z Fighters .... Dr. Gero stopped collecting data on the Z Fighters battles as he did not know about Future Trunks or the Super Saiyan form which he would have known had they collected data on that battle.
>Future Trunks notes that the Android 17 and Android 18 of his timeline, while much stronger than him, are not as strong as the ones seen in the main timeline. This may be due to the fact that Dr. Gero's remote tracking device gathers information later on that notes Goku's strength. In the main timeline, Goku is considerably stronger before his death in Future Trunks' timeline, as he spends three years in training. This also helps to highlight the main timeline androids' difference in mentality from the sociopaths of his timeline, as they can have laid waste to the others and to the world with even more harrowing dominance if they had want to.
Apparently they are so strong because they analyzed how the Z Fighters fight, which is plausible but still kind of bullshit. The Infinite energy thing is a bigger problem
wait, so how does she have eggs and how does he have sperm (if you're wondering, 17 says he has 1 biological kid in super)
does 16 have a dick??????
I want Android 21 to shove me down her throat
They can just claim Gero discovered majin magic/tech afterward working on A20 (himself).
It raises a lot of questions that he had dna from Frieza because of his fight with Trunks but didn't know about Super Saiyan.
>how nobody knows gohan is the great saiyaman despite being in his clothes without the bandana and sunglasses
Well his high school buddies figured it out. As for the others, most of the z-fighters' fights have been isolated incidents for the most part. Piccolo blowing up cameras during that doesn't really help. No one really knew the truth behind the Cell fight.
>16-18 were 100% robot.
17 and 18 weren't. 16 and 19 were.
The only fight that would matter is Goku vs Vegeta which we got.
>does 16 have a dick?
He probably has a port for "peripherals".
>Apparently they are so strong because they analyzed how the Z Fighters fight, which is plausible but still kind of bullshit.
When it comes to Z, it's all power levels. Or Chi. Fights mostly come down to raw strength. You need the power level to hit hard enough to get through their defenses to do damage, to react faster than them, and to make energy balls that can hurt them.
If a 20,000 fights a 100,000, the 20K can do nothing. Doesn't matter how much they've trained, or studied, or if they know all these cool techniques. It's just a numbers game.
So studying the Z fighters you can have androids and cyborgs that are fast and strong, but how would you get to the universe level strength of super saiyans?
the dude youre replying to is 100% wrong.
17 and 18 are called "androids" because of bad translation, "android" is a misnomer here. they're cyborgs, gero kidnapped them as children and turned them into cyborgs.
OP's comment is stupid, but I don't understand why people are against DB having a defined canon. Without it people would bring up Heroes, Legends, GT, the non canon movies, and filler arcs in discussions about the story or characters. For example, people can talk about Majin Vegeta, but no one cares about Time Breakers Vegeta because it doesn't impact the actual Vegeta.
Nah, it's a nice fight and it's the one we got, but plot wise it's not the one that matters the most. The build up to it could've been better too.
17-18 are kidnapped kids turned cyborg killing machines. So they have normal body parts. What is strange though is the age difference. 17-18 look about 16-19 in terms of age. Literal teens. Krillin is like 30+.
With infinite energy.
Toriyama explicitly stated that he introduced the concept of power levels just to have bad guys who are defeated because they rely on numbers and don't understand true strength.
>Being this mad at Piccolo and Gohan's wholesome father/son relationship
Why?
Autistic kids who think this will always be retards in my eyes.
They had to kill Cell, and they knew his power level. They only had to knock their opponents out of the ring in the tournament and the power levels varied greatly amongst the fighters. It makes sense.
based
You take away the specific numbers it doesn't matter. Your Chi level is EVERYTHING. My chi bigger than your chi = I win 100%. Super tones down power levels considerably, but it's still kinda there.
Which is an ass pull. This should be the most significant human tech discovery ever.
Honestly I just want a standard tournament. Nothing with stakes or ancient evils resurrecting, just a standard run of the mill tournament.
Yeah with a shit build up and pay off because Mr Moody just wanted to be evil again; boo fucking hoo. I was more interested to see how Piccolo vs Krillin would pan out if it ever came to that than everything that happened after Gohan got his energy sapped.
it is mentioned right when he mets goku. also during piccolo saga he elaborates that even if he can't die naturally, he can still be killed (or in that case, kill himself by trying to do the mafuba)
Roshi is the ONE human character I'm okay being surpassed. He should be training the kids. And the kids should have plausible strength, not Super Saiyan 3 nonsense.
ugley
>Krillin being able to fight Piccolo post Kami fusion
I think you guys are forgetting how set in stone the tier list was before DBS made everyone as strong as the plot demanded.
They only have that kind of strength through fusion, which makes them exponentially stronger. Plus, Piccolo had to train them for it.
Weren't they frozen in stasis while Gero worked on them? When were they kidnapped?
Chad Gohan was too good for this world. That was the sweet spot, After cell but before he became a salaryman.
>Androids have unlimited energy to give
>They don't act as support in the Tournament of Power
ToP will always be the worst arc in Dragonball.
Yeah, it's done as a joke, but it's canon. I think he was granted it via the phoenix but the phoenix later died? Roshi has been granted immortality. I checekd the birth date on the Dragon ball wiki and compared that to the current year in Super, and he is supposedly 358 years old.
>When were they kidnapped?
Never explained. Toriyama never explains anything. We don't even know Freiza's backstory or what his race is.
Who gives a literal fuck? It's not like they're playing for keeps, even Goku and Vegeta would be forced to hold back so as to not accidental injure people, so while the playing field is stilted it would've been on a more even field because of tournament regulations. Remember either you ring out, tap out, or get KO'd and Krillin's known more for being a trickster fighter than outright brawling.
>because Mr Moody just wanted to be evil again
Honestly that part hurt Vegeta's characterization. It's like he learned nothing from the Namek or Cell saga.
Better that way desu.
We're talking about the same series where characters get punched in the face or blasted but don't react because their power level is bigger.
The same "It's not lethal" argument was used for Roshi in ToP and everyone bitched there as well.
It was the leadup to Vegeta's kino moment.
>The same "It's not lethal" argument was used for Roshi in ToP and everyone bitched there as well.
I liked it
Base goku and vegeta are actually younger, vegeta doesn't recognize trunks and their power levels are lower.
It was alright, but I wish he didn't have to conventionally unlearn so much to get there.
Not to mention Vegeta has his tail
Because teen Gohan is cool and Adult Gohan is a spineless cuck faggot.
Yeah but even as far back as the Saiyan saga, Krillin could have killed Nappa with the Destructo disk despite being outclassed by at least 4x.
Piccolo and and Perfect Piccolo
This scene alone blows ~80% of Super out of the water in terms of animation.
It was his midlife crisis. You spent your entire life up to a certain point believing in the "might makes right, you are the best, what you want you get and damn those who get in your way" philosophy only to end up a layabout who mooches off an alien woman on an alien planet and you somehow ended up with a halfbreed kid you really don't know how to fully connect with. Vegeta didn't let this bother him too much until Goku shows up again and his absolute NEED to be better than Kakarot starts gnawing on his mind again and he now misses the rush of being Prince Asshole. After using the excuse of Babidi's magic to let himself revert to his old persona, beating the shit out of Goku (although Goku basically let him win), and realizing he still played right into Babidi's plans to resurrect Buu he finally had his epiphany that he actually did love his new life and accepted his damnation.
If it's one thing Super does right is show how Vegeta has actually matured as a father and individual while Goku is still the manchild he will always be.
Only in Super. at the end of Z he is the ultimate chad
>can have a team of all Gokus fight a team of all Vegitas
>can have a team of Gohan, Gohan and Videl(Gohan)
>DLC is giving us a second Goku/Vegeta fusion and a second Broly
Was the last two of the next season spoiled yet? Because unless it’s Roshi or something crazy the new character choices suck
There are scenes in Super that blow 80% of Super out of the water in terms of animation. What's your point?
>ultimate chad who got outsmarted and outplayed by Buu as once again he toyed with his opponent instead of getting it over with
It's not his fault Toriyama won't let him end fights because has to steal the thunder.
>outsmarted and outplayed
Saiyans are always cocky shits, monkey genes and all that
Because Goku*
>What's your point?
That they should have never changed their style of animation.
DBS
>something dramatic happens(transformation kamehameha, etc)
>SCREEN SHAKING to cover up the shit animation
DBZ
>something dramatic happens (transformation, Kamehameha, etc)
>shown in detail only rarely adding screen shaking and its only used in moderation to make the scene look more dramatic yet still looking good
Gohan has such a shitty virgin-like personality, I have no idea where the Chadhan meme came from. He doubted himself immensely throughout his childhood, was prone to fits of autistic rage, and as soon as he is clearly more powerful than an opponent he goes full sociopath and fucks everything up. Gohan is just a bitch in a Chad's Gi.
Gohan has the personality of an incel who told himself he was brilliant but lazy and could be the best if he just applied himself
>ultimate chad
>literally loses every fight he's ever involved in
TOP lmao
That was in like the first arc. There are plenty of spots in Super that have quality animation, especially later in the Goku Black arc and ToP. They chose to cover up the shit animation after it was already done, they never changed styles.
There's also plenty of instances of shit animation in Z. The only thing Toei is guilty of is never understanding how to properly manage time, and that's not anything new.
Has anyone ever won an important fight besides goku?
Dont forget dbz canonized time travel so there can be 20 gohans
Trunks killed Frieza
Pre-Cuck Gohan beat Cell
Krillin and Gohan beat Vegeta
The planet Earth beat Kid Buu
>Fasha
If by "important fight" you mean arc-ending super-bosses, then no. But Vegeta has a pretty high victory count, despite being hardstuck as not-Goku.
Teen Gohan is borderline edgelord who got cocky and as a result got his dad killed.
>That was in like the first arc.
Not true, you can see instances of this even in the TOP.
>There are plenty of spots in Super that have quality animation, especially later in the Goku Black arc and ToP
Agreed, hence the "~80% of Super" portion of my original post.
>There's also plenty of instances of shit animation in Z
Yes but they aren't as apparent in Z as compared to Super. The animation in general is better in Z compared to Super primarily because it's consistently good as compared to super, it's better in some portions (good portion of TOP for example) but worse in others (most of TOD for example) Also the fact they never used blood in Super even in an uncut version really hurt it's animation value in my opinion.
Here's your season 3 dlc.
How the fuck did Gohan go from "You retard" to a skinny college professor nerd that was weaker than when he fought Cell? Wasn't he on par or stronger than SSJ3 at this point? It's like if someone like Brock Lesner went quiet for a year or two and the next time you saw him he'd lost 100 lbs and was pudgy.
We don't know exactly how much stronger he's gotten though.
After all, in the anime he pretty much just fought characters who were presumably on the same level as him.
Except for Frost, who demolished him (aside from the Mafuba.)
>Two Trunks
can't have too many, future trunks is bae
Are we talking about the same Gohan that was mentored by Piccolo, confronted many foes despite terrible odds, who married his high school sweetheart and is a successful scholar moonlighting as superhero?
I think every single time a saiyan is defeated it's due to this kind of arrogance. I mean Cell almost killed Gohan because Goku gave him a senzu bean, and Goku intended to let Frieza live at the end of Namek. Cell absorbs 18 because Vegeta wanted a stronger opponent. Literally every time something terrible happens or a saiyan villain loses it's because they're doing dumb shit.
Please, there are tons of incredibly apparent instances of terrible animation in Z. The only valid point you have is the exclusion of blood and bodily destruction in general, and that is incredibly subjective. While some of the flat worst animation has come from Super's first arc, Z was in no way more consistent. It had clearly terrible scenes from the Saiyain invasion all the way over to the Buu saga.
There are plenty of things wrong with Super, but I think that you have no idea what you're talking about and you just want to be a part of the meme.
>borderline edgelord
You say that like that means something.
According to current canon there's currently a timeline with two Future Trunks'.
Trunks is the only one that consistently gets it right.
Completely stopped training after the mess with Buu was taken care of. He barely trained after Cell besides play sparring with Goten as well. Gohan needs severe motivation to do things or else he'll nerd out and become useless.
not that user, but this pissed me off when whis said that in super, why not just have future trunks in the same timeline as kid trunks if you're just going to recreate a future trunks timeline anyways?
hell yeah, another trunks
idk, but the manga suggested Gohan and Bulma might travel to that timeline
Well Gohan doesn't like to fight. He never did. The closest he ever got to being like his father was during the first Super Saiyan 2 transformation when it changed his personality to sadist who got his rocks off watching cell suffer. But other than when he gets extreme amounts of power in a short amount of time he's always really mellow and only fights when he has to. The second he saw an opportunity to get out of his father's world he got out
Also to add, they do have blood in Super, it's just much rarer and they don't linger on it.
People forget how shit some of Z's animation was because it was so long ago and people weren't going over it with a fine tooth comb.
Not to mention the number of episodes where most of the "animation" was actually just still reaction shots of Krillin shitting himself.
It's because they need retarded excuses to set up fights
Because Gohan wanted to be a scholar who doesn't fight.
It's like the first fucking thing he says he wants to be when he's introduced in Z and reiterates it several times throughout the story.
He only ever fought because he had to.
>Yeah yeah totally we're taking him to another dimension, but you can't ever go see him ever again
Whis fuckin Old Yeller'd that bitch to clear up the timelines
He did actually like training with Piccolo and his dad though.
The reason why there's basically no blood in Super is because it's made for kids in Japan, but that's just from what I've heard, can't tell you if it's 100% true right now
With the way universe ending disasters show up all the time Gohan needed to accept that he should always at least keep in fighting shape in case his dad and Vegeta end up dead or MiA again. Piccolo and Gotenks can't take care of everything by themselves once things go south due to how unreliable the latter is.
You are confusing toriyama's erlier style with they actually changing, they're not gonna use a different style for different eras, it would be a mess, whenever they have flashbacks to saiyan saga now, they're all buff and shit, and basically look like they do now.
It's true, regulations got way more strict since DB and Z's original airing. That's why Kai was censored (it was also in an earlier timeslot in Japanland) and why Super isn't as visceral and violent in most fights.
It's aimed at an earlier time slot, so yeah, a younger audience. But also Japan has changed a lot in what they can put in kids shows too.
Freeza still kills a bunch of people, though.
The funniest thing is the Dub hasn't reflected that change and still uses swearing, like calling people "bastard" in this weird role reversal of the way the show used to be dubbed.
>That's why Kai was censored
At least it still had an uncut version. Super isn't probably going to get one at this rate.
You're right and I think it's because Future Trunks is not only a half breed, but was raised almost entirely by his mother, with Gohan as a big brother figure.
Main timeline Trunks seems like he's going to end up like any other Saiyan, though, but then again he is just a kid.
t. Piccolo
>bootleg translations of the manga and anime back in the 90's had characters swearing left and right in order to make things appear more gritty and 'mature' than they actually were.
I kind of miss those days before most scanlators tried to be professional. I used to have a VHS tape with grainy wobbly 50+ transferred recordings of the Bojack and World's Strongest movies and the potty mouths on everybody was hilarious.
It's not arrogance from Goku. Maybe you are considering Goku simply as a dumb guy but in fact he is a really good person that doesn't want to end a life.
Also secretly he do wants to let them alive to being able to challenge them again in the future and maybe also to change their behaviour. It worked with many people he met, yamcha, tien, piccolo, vegeta, beerus, even buu in a way.
And maybe in the future he might even change Frieza sama, he may remains saddistic but probably only against bad people.
It's the only way to let a foe alive in DBZ, it's to turn him in an ally. I think if cell wasn't a pain to drawn he would be back in the serie since a long time too.
I think they should put on focus Gohan controlling his sadistic side better. Even during his sparring match with Goku before ToP started, the latter had to remind the former to keep himself in check even as an adult. So Gohan doesn't seem to have let that side go of him because even Goku will put his stupid tendencies aside to get shit done when necessary.
Seeing Future Gohan go through all that shit only to die is probably why he doesn't fuck around.
t. anybody with common sense.
That was Goku's reasoning in the Buu Saga for not splattering Majin Buu off the bat as he wanted the kids to stop depending on him to solve everything and why he did his stupid gambit in the Cell Games as he wanted Gohan to be the next world's protector.
Unfortunately Gohan refuses to take up the mantle and Goten and Trunks are still too immature and dumb to do anything of worth.
That argument only works for Vegeta.
>With the way universe ending disasters show up all the time
This. Gohan is supposed to be smart, yet he has the kind of lazy soft-headed altruistic mentality of a sheltered intellectual. He should know that eventually Goku and Vegeta won't be around or will be too old to help when the next Broly or Cell shows up and Gotenks will fuck everything up somehow. On top of that he should realize that even while Goku and Vegeta are around and at the top of their game, they may need help at some point.
Gohan has the potential and HAD the strength to protect the planet for decades. He threw that away so he could lecture college kids. He's either incredibly naive and shortsighted or selfish and thoughtless.
man i wish super saiyan actually meant something nowadays
That's a really weird take to have considering Toriyama specifically wrote Gohan out of the protagonist role to put Goku back in. It's hard to say he refused anything.
Of the people you mentioned only Beerus and Buu had the capacity and the intent to destroy the world. And Beerus shouldn't even count since it wasn't really an act of mercy or anything on Goku's part, Beerus could kill the entire main cast if he wanted to.
The dub used to be on daytime CN when it was DBZ, but now it's on adult swim for DBS, meaning they can say whatever, like Vegeta calling Jaco a jackass (even the non-swear changes in the dub are great, like the line delivery of Vegeta calling Goku a clown when beating the shit out of Black)
Some regions that don't have an adult swim actually have a censored dub though. For example, in that same scene Vegeta just calls him Jaco
>Future Gohan is a grizzled fighting veteran
>saw his entire family killed in front of him
>loses an arm and still fights a protracted running guerilla campaign against the big bads
>dies saving his friend on the off chance time travel is possible
>Present Gohan wears glasses, track suits, and reads out of a book in a school
it's like the opposite Hitler almost becoming a career painter instead of Hitler.
Toriyama wrote it like that, but it's still the same thing in the end. Nobody took up the mantle and Goku and Vegeta are still fighting (even though they don't object to it now). Goku really was wanting Gohan and the other kids to take up the role but they still haven't as of Super and if End of Z was any indication they still didn't even when Goten and Trunks are teenagers as Goten is a slacker who got beat up by his niece and Trunks is a pale shadow of his alternate timeline self.
>there will never be a future spin-off where a teenage Pan defends Earth from bad guys while getting coached by her two granddads Goku and Piccolo.
That happened because of fan backlash. None of the dubs nor the manga imply any other reasoning for Goku doing what he did with Cell and Gohan. It's why Piccolo has to pep talk Goku about Gohan being just a kid and not ready for this shit yet. It wasn't like, "lol I had so much fun fighting you, hey Gohan fight this guy when he's at full strength it's rad, here's a sensu Cell"
Master Roshi is just humble, I'd be too if I had students, once they let their guard down thinking they are the strongest I'd just show them a little something like he did.
>Goku really was wanting Gohan and the other kids to take up the role
Where?
>there will never be a future spin-off where a teenage Pan defends Earth from bad guys while getting coached by her two granddads Goku and Piccolo.
Even if there was she'd just be a fucking stick figure like the girl saiyans in Super.
I actually liked his speech to Goku in the manga where he tells him he's disappointed Goku fell into a rut of relying on brute force instead of refining his techniques as he originally used to do. That line where he asked if Goku learned that way of thinking from Vegeta or Frieza was pretty good.
What is Jiren's motivation? I stopped watching Super after the Black saga. People made him out to be Japanese alien Superman but he seems like he'd end up being a bad guy somehow.
Did you even watch the Cell Games or the Buu Saga?
He still turns chad at the flip of a switch though. Toriyama hasn't entirely forgotten.
I feel like Toriyama still does stuff like this just to rub it in everyone's faces what kind of wasted potential Gohan is.
>Tien is the strongest human
Ultra Instinct Roshi says hi.
>implying Toriyama gives that many fucks
Manga Jiren wanted to resurrect his Master with the Super Dragon Balls (he was killed by an actual demon which evidently means regular ways of resurrecting won't work) as he still wanted his Master's acceptance. His Master never acknowledged Jiren's strength when he was alive because Jiren only concentrated on power instead of trying to be a well rounded individual. The reason Jiren was in the Pride Troopers was because his Master hoped it would teach Jiren humility and how to help others as they help him but Jiren still rejected all offers of friendship and worked alone.
It even manifested in the ToP battle as he let Dyspo and Toppo get disqualified despite being easily able to save them as he told them they weren't useful to him at all. He also didn't anticipate Frieza and Goku teaming up and was taken by surprise by Frieza's self sacrificing ramming attack while Goku held him in place or Frieza and 17 planning ahead of time for the latter to hide after faking his death.
So Jiren's wish was ultimately a petty one to help his sense of self worth and pride and he ended up acknowledging it in the end.
Android 17 won the entire Tournament of Power. Don't know if that even really counts or not.
So why didn't this nigga solo Raditz, Nappa and Vegeta?
someone post that fucking comic of 17 fighting generic bandits in the forest or whatever
He was only barely dodging the attacks and Jiren wasn't even taking him as a threat. It was basically to teach Goku that there's still more for him to learn aside from just punching things harder. Jiren still clocked him anyway without Roshi landing more than a soft hits on him.
Well he did dodge them, didn't he?
