Huntsman is how sniper should be played. besides the weird hitboxes, it seems like a fair weapon, you can stomp with great aim but players also have a chance to kill you unless you are slinging random arrows from long range with hope and prayers.

Timing. Use your cloak only when going into enemy lines and uncloak when they are distracted fighting your team, using the YER helps immensely.

If pyros are such a problem, then use the spycicle which gives you 1 second of fire resist and 10 seconds of afterburn resist. Use the l'etranger for longer cloak duration. You can also pick up ammo boxes while cloaked to fill your cloak meter with stock invis watch so use that to your advantage.
Spies are better to use when the enemy is distracted by your team, making capture the flag the worst gamemode to use spy on because people are always checking their surroundings and aren't motivated to actually go fight.
The stock invis watch is near silent and the cloak and dagger is louder, but not as loud as the dead ringer. Also keep in mind that the l'etranger cancels out the c&d's invisibility drain rate if you want to use it but want some more mobility.
Also, be sure to use disguises to their fullest before using a cloak. If you press r, you can disguise as your teammates and get behind cover before cloaking and disguising as an enemy. The less they notice you, the better. Also, don't disguise and cloak at the same time, or else your disguise trail will follow you for a bit
