God I fucking hate Nomura so god damn much, I absolutely hate everything about his artsyle. He managed to single-handedly kill Final Fantasy with his retarded emo shit.
Amano is perfect, absolutely perfect. He managed to create the aesthetics for Final Fantasy, the aesthetics which were so important for Final Fantasy, only for it to be discarded in favour of N*mura’s shit. Now FF is known for retarded emo shit because of this fucking hack, not the dreamy fairy-tale aesthetic that it should be known for. Final Fantasy should have had the same deal with Amano that Toriyama has with Dragon Quest, it should be based on Amano’s art-style only, so that idiotic fucking hack wouldn’t be able to get his grubby dirty hands on Final Fantasy.
If it isn’t Amano, then it isn’t Final Fantasy. There I said it.
Are there any games that that go for an Amano-esque style in game? Sawaki Takeyasu's work on El Shaddai is the only thing I can think of off the top of my head.
Gabriel Stewart
Unironically this Vagrant Story has the best aesthetics I've ever seen in any videogame
Levi Phillips
I honestly can't think of an artist that is similar in style to Amano. I don't know many that even do oil painting either.
Hudson Williams
Ok, fair enough. I love the warm feel of Yoshida as well. Very nostalgic in a certain sense. The difference between Yoshida and nomura is that Yoshida is compatible with the fairy-tale world of Final Fantasy, Normura isn’t. Amano created the soul of Final Fantasy, Yoshida expands it, Nomura just fucking destroys it and has nothing to do with it. God I wish a medieval-style 3D HD FF game would do that. I wouldn’t mind a FF6 HD remake either.
>post about 3D graphics >posts a video of pre-rendered CGI FMV Are you retarded? The actual graphics of FFIV DS look like dogshit
Luke Thomas
Baten Kaitos sort of
Noah Campbell
>fairy twink shit is better than emo
No. No this is not the case.
Gabriel Evans
I am talking about how it would look like if they made a HD game now. I am not talking about the actual game. This proves it is possible, because first of all it would probably not be developed on the DS, and second technology has developed to a point where it is possible to make a game look like that. Thus, it is an actually good representation because it shows how a game would look like if it was made now.
Do you lack common sense?
Owen Russell
based and true
Jason Wright
Hurr durr flowery things are SO GAY hurr durr.
Ok, tell those Romantic poets who fucked a billion women that.
Hunter Perez
Look at this fucking idiot. Old FF games looked nothing like Amano's art. His art was only visible in portraits and enemy spirtes. The mechanical designs and backgrounds were done in house.
Fuck you pretentious faggots don't even bother to do any research.
Tyler Rivera
>bartz is a comfy blue shirt brown hair guy in sprite >amano has him look like this this ain’t butz
It was dreamlike in its aesthetic whereas now it's just anime shit
Kingdom Hearts 3 feels closer to older FF games than FF15 does
Dominic Ross
>He managed to create the aesthetics for Final Fantasy, >If it isn’t Amano, then it isn’t Final Fantasy. Open your ears and listen well, you dumb nostalfag drone: *NOT A SINGLE SOLITARY FINAL FANTASY IN HISTORY EVER HAD "AMANO" AESTHETICS.* Literally no one of the Amano-era FFs had the graphical capability to show any "artstyle" whatsoever. Just because Amano did the artworks for the game it doesn't mean jack shit if that artwork is nowhere to be seen in the actual game.
Yoshitaka Amano's art looks nothing like any of the in-game Final Fantasy stuff, don't kid yourself. It's not the same as Akira Toriyama's art, where everything actually is consistent with the style. Final Fantasy has always been moving and changing in appearance for many of the games. Actual Amano artwork would be like in Angel's Egg.
Brandon Allen
It may not have looked the same. But it was a very clear influence in how things were laid out, it creates a certain mindset for the series. It really did reflect on the tone of games, and of stories as well. Just to explain, FF games used to have a fairy tale mindset but now they don’t. Plenty sections of ff4 have amano’s influence upon them, you can see it more clearly with the PSP remake. It was more subtle then blatent.
The art style really does effect how devs see a series, and how they develop a game. DQ wouldn’t have such a fair-hearted/innocent tone if it wasn’t for Toriyama. Same thing with Amano, people saw Final Fantasy through Amano’s lens, thus you could see it with the introduction of Rosa and that dark elf in FF4.
Compare early Final Fantasy with late Final Fantasy, and tell me that arty style doesn’t effect dev/story-writer mindset.
V is one of the few entries where Amano's art doesn't work for the most part.
Aaron Lewis
Amano's art is utter trash
Brandon Ramirez
This is absolute bullshit and you know it. I already told you the directors and art/graphics designers, aka inhouse staff were the ones responsible for the look and feel of old FF. Go praise those people instead of some guy who did character designs for portraits, covers and promotional art.
A game that would look like that would look like this: would be perfect.
Camden Wood
Tomomi Kobayashi(SaGa games) is super underrated. id kill for a final fantasy with her style man. nomuras art sucks in comparison to Amano and her honestly.
Based SaGabro Hyped for the western release of RS3?
Camden James
Scarlet Grace doing well enough for the team to actually get a name might mean better budgets in the future. Hell, even that SaGa mobage managed to top the charts.
Yeah Amano is so perfect that his concept art is fucking useless for video games and always has to be extensively reworked. Nomura took over because, believe it or not, he's actually very pragmatic. You can take a Nomura design and almost always transition it very easily into 3D. Compare FFVII's concept art with the battle models, it's very close. People shit on Nomura for belts n zippers but Amano's art is always full of extraneous pointless details, just look at how many random baubles Firion is wearing. Look at how bad the perspective is when trying to determine how the character is actually shaped and proportioned. The art is fine on its own merits but Squaresoft had a good reason for replacing him.
Liam Wood
I have played all the mainline games and many more spinoffs and FF7 is still my favorite
How the fuck such a shit series like Final Fantasy has managed to attract talent like Amano and Uematsu? These people somehow managed to turn a shitshow of games into something that just makes sense, fuck even Nomura was actually pretty amazing in FF8 with both character/monster design and shaped up that trainwreck into a memorable product.
Caleb Bell
>Cloud is the most soulless character in Smash >When most of the Fire Emblem characters are literally NPC tier
Henry Baker
Fuck you, those baubles are exactly where they need to be
Justin Diaz
VII is good you contrarian fuck
Nathaniel Phillips
ZIP UP THOSE FUCKING BOOTS
Chase Butler
I honestly think top and most of bottom should have just been labelled as completely different franchises. Something like ultimate Sci-Fi or something.
Connor Fisher
god fucking dammit Cecil is such a fucking G
Noah Hill
Amano wasn't exactly big yet in the mid 80s, so Square just had dumb luck with accessing him. He really picked up popularity in the mid 90s, which I always wondered if Square dropped him from FF7 and on since they no longer wanted to pay for now a popular artiest.
Ethan Gomez
God fucking damn it I love zidane.
Anthony Fisher
Wasn't Vampire Hunter D quite popular?
Bentley Morgan
For a moment i thought the art of these two was done by the same person, lol
Matthew Morgan
The film didn't hit till 1985, FF1 was 87. It was a somewhat popular film in Japan (was more popular in the west) but he was mostly just credited for doing the covers of the novels along with Demon City's original novel.
Carson Taylor
What's the best way to play 3? I played 3 on the DS like 13 years ago and kind of want to replay it. Wouldn't mind not having those cartoony graphics.
There's a fan translation of the original NES version. The psp and pc ports fixed the jaggiedness of the DS's graphics.
John Cook
3 is on pc with some visual upgrades. it's even on sale on steam rn
Zachary Powell
romhacking.net/hacks/2805/ Try this. It's supposed to backport the remake's balance changes to Famicom III. If you do play the remake, the PSP version comes with some QoL like autoBattle and the Famicom soundtrack.
Joshua Young
Thanks senpai. I'll go with the fan translation for now.
Caleb Howard
But Nomura did the monster design in 6 and that game has some of the best monsters in the series.
Brody Carter
I like them both. Why does it always have to be A or B with you guys?
Have you seen Angel's Egg and 1001 Nights? The second one especially is a beautiful expression of his style.
Chase Collins
Redpilled KanekoCHAD
Carter Ross
Can we talk about how soulful Dissidia 012 was? >take Dissidia >throw in a bunch of new content that basically doubles the size of the game >leave in all the old content now with updated mechanics >absolutely fucking insane replayability Holy shit, NT is such a damn dumpster fire in comparison.
Carter Bailey
FF VII - 10 are great though.. Do you think those are bad too?
but amano's characters all look like gay albinos nomura's art doesn't
Kevin Scott
Dumb boomers. Golden age is VI - X don't you ever forget.
Oliver Moore
Maybe one day you can be confident with your sexuality
Joseph Walker
Threadly reminder that the FF title literally doesn't mean anything. Sakaguchi just wanted a catchy alliterative name with letters FF in it.
Benjamin Thompson
Yes they are bad because they didn't have amano art, except they did, and because they don't look like amano art in game, even though no game in the series does
