i just hope they balance it well. I mean you can't even mention occultist without people losing their shit.
>No Crusader, Vestal, Occultist
What did they mean by this
>no vestal
meh
>no occultist
good
>no crusader
fuck that stresses me out.
LESS RNG PACHINKO BULLSHIT THAT MAKES IT 100% ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE TO PLAN ANYTHING BECAUSE YOU'RE CONSTANTLY AT THE MERCY OF RANDOM CHANCE
Occultist is on the twitter banner, though
>I hate losing, everything should be predictable so I can do the same thing over and over again and never feel the risk of losing
literally you
>by the time the 2nd game is anounced only 2.5% of the people who bought it finished the game
>only 1% saved dismass and reynauld
>bait.webm
27 seconds in antiquarian should have attacked not defended and the battle would have been won.
Crusader and Vestal are the canonical two deaths
>Bone boi has three HP left
>better defend instead of killing it
Honestly it's werid they bothered to bring anyone back at all. I feel like every character who lived through DD is either finally at peace with themselves and will go and try to fix their life up or so shaked up they wouldn't be answering any more fucking call.
Loosing heros that took me several sessions and mountains of money to upgrade and level shoulnt be up to nothing but dice rolls.
I think they killed off the only true good aligned characters.
probably on purpose.
THE ENEMY CANNOT DEATHBLOW IF YOU DISABLE HIS HAND
based brainlet
So where did The Countess come from if she predates The Ancestor’s excavations?
>.webm
This can't be real, right? It was on purposem, surely. No one is this stupid, right?
>same classes
>probably sameshit everything else too
What's the point? Just make another DLC
>the sequel can't be anything like the prior game
Is this going to be the new shitpost topic for DD2?
Why not shake things up with new classes anyway? What's the point slapping "2" on what is essentially another DLC
>tfw more plague doctor
Why are you assuming there will be no new classes? That's a retarded assumption to make.
Should be called Darkest Land since now the evil expands away from the estate.
why do you assume they won't have new classes? This is just a teaser, why wouldn't they save new classes for a full trailer?
>arbitrarily changing an established name
You'll never be a business man.
Shut up, it's a good idea.
Keep the art style and tone but make it a game about managing Waffle House employees instead.
FOOL! The caverns unearth deep beneath the ruined manor honeycomb far beyond any owned estate. The darkness is rooted everywhere, beneath the very earth you fumble across in ignorance. In death, we are all returned to it, and beneath the soil lies the horrible truth of the world
>Reynauld and Dismas sacrifice themselves to kill the Heart of Darkness using Holy Duelists Lance Advance
>Not blighting the big boi with grave robber.
>Not attacking with moneybags.
This is bait.
>Shauntel's resolve is tested
>ABUSIVE
>Can I please get a waffle
They're pulling a Diablo 2, the Occultist took what he learned from the Darkest Dungeon and ran off to wreck yet another horror upon the world. He'll be the final or penultimate boss of DD2.
>what would you like to see in DD2?
The fun and enjoyment DD1 had before the devs got buttmad that people weren't playing the game the way THEY wanted.
No more random hunger checks.
Wilbur is alive.
Balancind singleplayer games is always a losing proposition. I get that nerfing a strategy that is able to easily steamroll the game, but you should buff more than nerf. The DD devs need to realise they are not icefrog and will never be icefrog no matter how much they look up to him.
>only 1% saved dismass and reynauld
My boys, both were in the final fight for me
>Holy duelists Lance advance
I'm imagining some eyes of heaven great heart heat attack and it's fucking glorious.
The game just got so fucking boring when you couldn't cheese it anymore. What the fuck is the point of learning strategies if they're gonna be dead.
Is this a fucking joke? I expected this to be one of those "one dude dies and then everyone heart attacks to death" but only one person died (not a big deal at all) and its completely your fault for not attacking with Big Money Mike.
>only 1% saved dismass and reynauld
I mean that shit is fucking hard, since the final boss just KILLS A PARTY MEMBER LIKE ITS NOTHING.
Is radiant with no dlc the best way through for the first time or should I just play on normal mode?
My only worries are the apparent huge grind wall near the end of the game, or dlc being designed around already knowing the base game
>Crusader and Vestal
>Good aligned
>Leper
>not true good
Unironically this. Losing the ability to quickly apply the proper item to a forced curio interaction felt like a lessening of the experience, before I had felt rewarded for knowing my parties negative quirks, keeping an eye out for the appropriate curios and making sure to bring items to offset the risks.
The final boss lets you select which hero gets killed, its not random.
Only lvl5 bosses require any strategy, lower leveled bosses can easily be bruteforced.
they just need to make it into the last DD, not necessarily survive it
>lower leveled bosses can easily be bruteforced.
It's not about winning, it's about fun.
Guess we're getting this guy as a boss now
>devs finish darkest dungeon
>"Alright it's time to develop an entirely new game!"
>"I call it, Darkest Dungeon Again"
>Top everyone up by stuffing them with as much as they can eat
>Next step they take gets a hunger check
Or
>Klepto steals a bunch of food out of an abandoned sack
>Takes hunger damage the next time I fail a check
Always hated that.
Shit I want;
>Summoner abilities that can compensate for a lost/dead party member and preserve your formation
Stuff like a Necromancer class that can revive a dead party member as a camp skill, it stresses the fuck out of the party and the shambling automaton is not long for this world but abilities which can let limp on and finish a run even if you lose someone to a bad run of luck.
>Less repetition
If they do the 'kill x boss multiple times' thing again I hope they can at least change the fight up a bit each time instead of just adding more damage/health/resistances. Also no bosses like the tank again, Jesus Christ.
>that fucking party
>goes for a heal instead of a stun with the occultist first second in
>Has Jester in a shit position so the only thing he can do is stress heal
>FORCES A GUARD FROM THE GUY ON DD FOR THE FULL HEALTH ANTIQ INSTEAD OF ATTACKING
>>rng bullshit
200 stress needs something other than a heart attack. I said this in another thread but it would go something like this
>Run away from the dungeon, it gets to much and they run out. You can use them again for other raids etc
>Run away forever, it's to much and they leave the game permanently.
>Heart attack
>Go insane, you can still control them, but they can't perform any attacks or perform any movements on your side. Other party members can shuffle them though. They have to be dragged back home and treated.
>And the worst result of all, they join the enemies and come back as a mini boss later.
A partymember secretly becoming a cultist might be an interesting hidden mechanic.
>tank again.
Do you mean the canon the bandits use? That fights fine but they should put a limit on the spawns. Actually a lot of the boss of the fights with constant adds are silly. It's kind of lazy how often adds were used.
>A partymember secretly becoming a cultist might be an interesting hidden mechanic.
That's a bit too much at first, would be cool as DLC once they work out the system.
>alpha legion memes./tg/
>. Actually a lot of the boss of the fights with constant adds are silly. It's kind of lazy how often adds were used.
Truly the Dark Souls 2 of dungeon crawlers.
My friend is a admin. Any trash talking about the ancestor will result in a ban
Fuck the Ancestor.
Vestal was alright, she just wanted the d. Crusader knew he was no longer a family man, so dedicated himself to fighting evil chaos.
Leper wanted to use his skills a soldier to take down a great evil.
I mean fuck all the heroes are good alinged expect perhaps bountyhunter, graverobber, plague doctor and jester. Jester cause he went fucking postal so he might be "evil", tbf though he was being mocked and having knives chucked at him. Bounty hunter just wants dosh. _________snort___________ . Graverobber is in it for the dosh as well. Plague doctor was a stinky autist who chopped up her own lecturer after he died of natural causes, for the sake of science.
If they named it shady mountains tnstead of darkest dungeon 2 people would say wow this game is just like darkest dungeon.
That and also so people know what they are buying
I guess they wanted to make things a challenge, but it's not fun to fight agaisnt.
Real talk, what wasn't the Ancestors fault? and did he do any good things at all?
HOW QUICKLY THE TIDE TURNS
Real talk. he has some of the best lines of all time for a video games
Antiquarian and Occultist aren't good
>hidden loyalty stat
>disloyal partymembers may embezzle funds or purposefully make themselves unusable on the next mission because I AIN'T GOING BACK IN THERE, MAN
>cultist party members might sabotage the stress relief of other party members in town and in camp, as well as gather info that will lead to a town defense mission that's like the bandit attack but not one off.
MORE QUICKLY
Antiquarian was a greedy fuck who left someone to die.
Occultist made a pact with cthulu but he seems to do it to help the world. Considering he gets bonsues agaisnt eldritch shit I think he is using the great one's power agaisnt them. I'm reading the "shadow out of time" by ya boi HP Lovecraft, which has good giant tentacle monsters being ultra afraid and opposed to cthulu type shit.
Maybe the Occultist sided with one of those.
>Glittering Grease, napkins and bottles. Paid for in blood
Seems a bit much, but I think them losing their shit and running off to join the enemy could lead to you getting attacked. Or if they are afflicted for too long they run off and join the enemy.
Maybe it could be like Xcom, like the orginal one. Where if you do enough shit to piss off the ayylmao's they come and get you. So a points based system, at 100 the enemies attack
>Killing a boss 10 points
>clearing a dungeon with no heroes dead 8 points
>Disloyal heroe runs off and tattles on you. 8 points
>Kill _____Wilbur____ 100 points.
Oh shit I Was wrong then, though I've heard she was going to sacrifice her. It looks kind of ambigous weather she will free the captive or sacrifice her. She clearly murdered her master for her own gain though.
>Antiquarian boss fight because they are the canon tratior.
Such as?
Antiquarian maybe, depending on her comic, Occultist seems somewhat like a bro, and he dies with dignity against the final boss should you choose him.
He's in the twitter banner. Plus if you read "The shadow out of time" there are goodish alinged tentacle monsters that are opposed to cthulus race and other eldritch horror's. Now Antiquarian, that's the real tratior right there.
>Remind yourself that cholesterol is a slow, and insidious killer
Don't forget Dismas on that road to redemption
>Suffer loss after loss
>Realize it will take me at least 8 hours to get back to where I was
>Stop playing because of the depressing grind to recover
I really like the game, but I just don't have this one in me anymore. It's the same with a lot of other RPGs, I just don't have the time to invest in them, and with stuff like permadeath, that makes it even harder for me.
When are we buying the missile silo and starting Yea Forumstown? We can all semi-retire by streaming games full time and producing gay porn.
I wanna see just how far his tragic failings extend, I mean he fucked up big time in the village, but maybe were now off to a world tour of fixing his globe-spanning mess
Seriously how much fucking free time had the guy. At some point it becomes ridiculous. At least make it so that this game's mess is cuased by the Ancestor's Ancestor or some shit and this is what he attempted to fix by tapping into ELDRIIIIICHT POWEEERS
>CRUSHING BLOW
Antiquarian fucking patrolled
I've never played radiant but the game takes around 50 - 60 hours to complete with the grind in the base game, mostly you'll be grinding for heirlooms, cash and levels come naturally. The DLC don't really add any extra grind, in fact I'd say they remove some. The color of darkness adds another currency you can trade for heirlooms and crimson court adds a disease which makes you immune to all other diseases at the cost of a few minor stats and having to carry blood with you everywhere.
>It turns out we have to fix fuck up of not just a singular ancestor, but a whole group of the fuckers who repeatedly fucked up everything over many generations
Well really why he kill the master is directly related to how you see the last panel.
>100+ hours
>didn't win once
I don't have enough strength to continue
I don't really want a 'world tour' all in a single game. My hope is the next game is India/China/Middle East themed, and we get Lovecraftian shangra-la or something.
Dismas is interesting to study when contrasted with the bandits. All of them have Dismas powers, he's basically the perfect bandit. However Dismas has a conscious and regrets the death of a child. He realises that he killed an innocent and wishes to destroy monsters in order to make the world a better place. Make amends for one he made worse. He knows what he did is terrible.
The bandits mean while, are cold and malicious. The wolf theme they have, their boss called VVulf, wolves on the older bandits with muskets head shows that their view is to do anything to survive. All they feel is malicious intent and the need to survive. They wonder through dungeons "looting packs" in full darkness for more gems. They cannot go insane from stress because they lack any conscious. They are all sociopaths and psychopaths.
Dismas, unlike the bandits know that he can improve and won't become like "wolf" in order to live in the world. I think Dismas would be like the bandits, if he choose to forsake all morality and force himself to repress all feelings of guilt for killing a child, or worse try and enjoy killing a child in order to overcome his guilt.
>Spare the others. I am ready
WHERE MY LEPER BROS AT?
>tfw wayne june will never narrate your life
why go on bros?
It's a she, though she seems the absoulte worst out of the bunch.
I'll wait for more info but if it's just the same classes and new maps, sounds like an overpriced expansion.
Ancestor brought so much ruin, the giant flesh eldritch horror said, "Yo I fucking need this guy on my team, he's such a dick lol". I mean god damn.
I had a horrible thought: The game punishes you walking backwards because its a basic function but it ruins the forced gameplay the devs want.
Who /notcowards/ here
It's literally just a teaser, no one has any idea what they will do.
We know from a pc gamer interview that
>New meta game, it's a "journey" this time.
>combat system will have a better "presentation" and be "tuned up"?
>The team is going from 14 to 18. It was 5 when they first made the game.
The journey makes sense, as I'm sure they know how repetitive it is, so keeping you pushing forward out of "multiple dungeons" keeps things fresh. Hopefully the bigger team will mean more unique and varied bosses.
I don't know that there's going to be a "town" exactly. They said in that PCgamer interivew that they're mostly keeping the combat the same but the "meta game structure" will be completely different.
I think that means changing the rhythm of chose a mission, return to town, repeat. They said it "won't be about cleaning up your back yard" and instead it's about "going on a journey". Some have said it's gonna DD meets Oregon Trail and that seems likely to me.
I know that feel bro. I'm taking a break right now as I'm dreading Darkest dungeon expedition 3 and trying to slay the fucking viscount in his giant swamp.
Huh. Didn't realize only 5 people worked on the first game. They did pretty good then
I don't think "oregon" trail will be right. It's possible you lead a massive band on a journey. Maybe we send different bands out to different parts as we progress.
I imagine we can gain new recurits along the way.
I didn't clear any DD, I died like bitch, no will to come back... the estate won
>overpriced expansion
It's not really 'overpriced' if it has completely redesigned mechanics, a totally new plotline, a totally new town hub with new buildings, and totally new enemies.
There'd be a huge outcry if the original cast of heroes wasn't returning, so of course they're back and prominently displayed in the teaser. And there's no reason to change the artstyle, since that in and of itself is iconic and no relevant graphics technology has improved such that you'd need totally new assets for those characters. Why waste money and time reinventing the wheel?
Now if it does come out and it's extremely light on new content, then sure. Red Hook will be lazy assholes in that case. But they're a small team, a lot about the first game was downright perfect (especially with regards to the graphics, sound design, and overall tone), and so the focus should be on building upon the original rather than making the sequel completely different just because different = good.
If it helps, I actually had more party wipes and retreats with Champion level siren. I think I had one wipe and 4 defeats with her.
Both DD 1 and DD2 I had one defeat and one victory. Fuck champion crimson court is easier. Which is actually really good design, making the final area harder than your expansion. they some how managed to avoid powercreep.
I hope they make leperbro even more powerful
They are going from 14 to 18 people now. They had 5 when they first made the game. I don't think they will be lazy at all.
>Leper ascended to godhood and became the god of the light
>Comes down now and again to one shot bosses.
> 50% chance he will miss
Does this mean DD1 will be in a bundle? I hope so!
It's like 10 british bongs right now on steam. For like the whole thing with all the DLC.
I'm guessing it will work something like this
>you start from a base camp, there's some choices you can make here like picking from some recruits or taking more of x supplies instead of y
>you chose a path, the game gives you some hint of what you might find down 1 road or the other
>sometimes you run into random events like one of your dudes fell off the trail or something
>sometimes you run into combat
>eventually you hit a cave/dungeon
>occasionally find other camps maybe small civilizations where you can potentially make a new recruit and/or re stock some things
>every so often you get to pick a path again
you're not gonna be going back to town all the time though and I don't really think there's gonna be multiple missions, I think it's just one mission; get to the top, with multiple paths.
I guess I'm surprised that people feel attached to the classes.
user I only get games from bundles it's just the easiest way, I will gladly wait years and years for it to either be free or in a bundle because my backlog is very big.
Like going by the ruins, and Bone Bearer is clear that the family has benefited off lovecraftian shit for a while. Hell they even had records for the ancestor to find. Hell the iron stress crown is even on the family sigil.
pretty sure there won't be a hub
That makes sense, it's possible we might move around some sort of world map as well.
Oh and another one, the crow is on the family sigil and the ruins seem to be full of lovecraftian artifacts. The big Corvid also seem to inhabit the estate. Did they get the sigil from that?
Yeah it's lovecraftain fuckery down the family line.
the game punishes you for walking backwards because not looking where you're going in a monster-infested eldritch horror dungeon is a terrible idea
>they could just turn around and swap positions.
They're the face of the series, just like in TF2. I'm not against retooling them and changing important mechanics in order to improve the overall game, but leaving them out is like having Halo without Grunts or Elites. Plus, the classes do represent individual characters and those characters do have some pretty deep lore backstories.
I doubt this story will be directly related to anything he did, I think it's more like he unleashed something and now it's spreading.
As for him continuing to narrate I think it's clear that he never really wanted you to "fix" what he did, he was just trying to lure you to the estate. The ancestor is on the eldritch horrors side and I think he's still "alive" in some sense. He's narrating this cause he likes watching you suffer.
>what would you like to see in DD2?
cute anime girls!
I don't think that's the same band. For one thing
>Reynauld is the same size as hellion.
>Crusaders faces are fully covered, those guys are not.
>No cross on the banner in Hellion comic
It's probably not english men coming to conquer some fantasy celts.
yea that's possible, that could even be DLC like a whole new campaign in a different part of the world.
Oh another thing to note, crusader is clearly fighting arabs and not celts.
Agreed. DD needs some innocence and cuteness to make the horror parts more horrifying. Like an cute tomboyish Orphan character in town that sells you artifacts she may or may not have pickpocketed, and then towards the end that cute girl starts mutating into something horrific.
We already got mods for that. Fucking nexus also has tons of porn mods as well. I'm actually shocked I'm surpised about that.
Most wanted mod for DD1. Pls sakurai, give me a squad of anime school girls varying from Loli to T H I C C
You're forgetting that in order to get to the Holy Land, many crusaders would have had to march through the territory of other nations/cultures. We don't know how 1:1 the regions match up to real life in DD, but one should assume that at the very least where the Crusader is from is very far from where the Alchemist is from.
Also, the Teutonic Crusade was a thing, and those directly targeted slavic pagans.
It's clearly not the same bunch, for one thing the crusaders uniforms all seem to mismatch whereas these guys are all in the same uniform. I'm pretty sure it was just "regular" feudal forces killing some barb scum.
>women in the army
lmao
Well, Vestal is a thing. Also, in almost all armies throughout history you did find women among the soldiers; as civilians, of course. They would do cooking, cleaning, gather supplies, tend to wounded, etc. There was no official place in the military for women, but they were present in the wagon train.
In her defense
>Charging about 100 men in full plate with 5 guys is fucking retarded.
One of her camping skills is "reject the gods", not "reject god." This stresses the other party members implying she's an atheist. I think she hates the gods because her family/tribe got slaughtered in a pointless ambush fighting for them.
She has no problem working with the religous classes either, or anyone else which seems to imply she may have found her tribes conflict pointless, or at least hopeless in the face of superior foes.
>no crusader
>no vestal
fuck this shit, my favorite two heroes are gone
not buying
Come on now lad. Nobody cares about that useless vestal.
>Big amoured chad kills the Dad with the celtish son's Halbred.
Holy fucking shit. It's the little details.
take that shit opinion and leave
Fuck you, you leave my sweet consitent healing heal slut alone.
Yep, like the stress crown carved into the tree.
Celtic Women would take part in fights if things were getting desperate. I would assume things were getting desperate so they drafted her into their pitiful force.
based crusader killing heretics
Yeah but seeing your whole family get slaughtered, then seeing your father die by your brothers weapon will fuck you up. The stress crown is obvious but I didn't notice that detail before.
I guess they fought agaisnt those amoured soldiers on reasons of faith, hence why she hates the gods. Whole thing would seem pointless after a huge chad killed your dad.
wasn't the ending just
>grandpa skullfucked the planet so bad it can't possibly be fixed but hey thanks for trying
how do you sequel that
>not taking the redpill that humanity itself is a lovecraftian abomination
The Heart did nothing wrong. It's influence is inescapable, thus why preventing it from hitting the reset button for life on Earth ultimately did nothing. In fact, it may have made things even worse. Perhaps the Heart fears that Humanity, it's own offspring, is slowly becoming/creating a rival to its power.
uuuh, are you describing any learning experience like that?
BEAR THE TORCH, AND GET BIG CRITS ON THE BRAIN OF THE BIG EVIL!
OR KILL IT IN PITCH BLACK FOR EXTRA DOSH!
>could drop the useless highwayman or Gravedigger
>nah lets drop reynauld and the vestal
dropped
>let's go see how the rest of the planet is doing
>let's fuck it up even more just to see what will happen
>useless highwayman
lol good bait
never used a highwayman or gravedigger for anything but torcheless suicide runs and beat the game just fine
this
and the ethereal consciousness of the ancestor is there to watch and commentate for his own amusement
It's gonna be party of six with columns or something this time?
"The light" fucking terrifies it. Not becaues there is a god of the light, but when people become "virtuous" we perform above our limits. It has no counter to that, that's something humans developed themselves.
is it actually confirmed that the Crusader and Vestal aren't coming back or are they simply just not in the trailer? Neither is the antiquitarian
if they don't bring back based shieldbreaker I will be upset
well you missed out on using easily one of the best damage dealer then
every day 1 hero is in the image except the vestal and crusader
Man-At-Arms or Houndmaster weren't day 1
I think
Fuck. "We are the Flame" indeed.
Do you think he actually felt bad about what he did? He seemed to alternate between regret and total contempt for all people.
I think he's basically become 2 people since his encounter with the heart, hit humanity is still in there and does feel bad but part of him is also aligned with the heart and only regrets not fucking things up further
>same characters
cool, can't wait for dlc disguist as sequel for maximum profit. Also how does the narrator make sense? He was the mansion guy.
>complaining that Wayne June is back
m8 he became one with the heart, he can be anywhere now. he never really "died"
considering all her abilities are greedy and team sacrificing i am inclined to believe she sacrificed her.
maybe something in vain to slay the spire then
>That fucking trash party
>Wah why do I keep losing?!
I've heard he is either sociopath or psychopath manipulating you. Considering how coldy he murder and betrays people. He's quite emotional though, and has strong feeling on stuff like the church. I'm going with sociopath. He can feel shit but he's out for his own gain. He also does shit to just amuse himself at the expense of others, so he's also a sadist.
I kind of got that as well, and thought that possibly the first specter on the old road was his humanity trying to warn you to turn back, while the thing he became is what lures you deeper in.
He makes it pretty clear he was slowly being corrupted.
so slay the spire mixed with banner saga.
But she also has powers to buff the whole part and give them higher resistances. I guess she might still be seen as selfish and uses people for her own ends
>I will buff the crusader so we can get through this dungeon, and I can get lot's of gold.
>I will sacrfice the crusader for power after I finish buffing him to get past this boss.
God come to think of it, she might ancestor tier of fucked up. Or at least has the potential to match him.
>ability to grant whole team +Dodge
>greedy
but I would agree she probably did do the sacrifice, then again I'm conflicted as to why she killed the master if he was doing the same thing
>slowly
He was a degenerate and a chronic backstabber long before the Heart got to him.
Fuck man he willingly did most of this shit out of bordem. He was socipathic hedonist bent on doing this shit for his own gain and amusment. I think he does want the family lands restored, but only because he realises he damaged the family in the long run. But even then it's too little too late. Then again it might all be selfish, he doesn't want to be known as the guy who "brought ruin to our family". So brings you into fix his mess.
reminder why you need to roll rogue
youtube.com
>all this pvp music gone
fucking jewtube
whatever happened to him. is again slowly happening to the caretaker.
Plus he was normal judging by his original writings. And as he narrates he talks about a nawing boredom that got him to start nercromancy, making the pigs and so on.
CUTE GIRLS CORRUPTED BY CUTE CULTISTS
>eyes
Stra*ght people were a mistake
yes that's what I'm thinking
his downfall is pretty interesting, we know he was disgusted by the other elites in the court but his opinions on regular folk seem to vary, sometimes he seems to really care about them and their misfortunes and other times he's like they're fucking pathetic. I think as a young man he really did care about people but his lifestyle started to corrupt him even before the eldritch horrors did. I definitely think he has 2 personalities though, that's how the corruption manifests itself it's like an evil version of himself started to take over more and more.
Eyes are cute, but you're right. Goes against the aesthetic.
I spoilt myself a little bit on crimson court ending, but didn't he purposefully feed all the court vampire mosquito blood? Just for laughs and to see what would happen?
I hope they make a new character for every old one, otherwise whats the point?
I mean I dont mind the old ones still being there, but meh
>An evil fucking Vampire Bug that's responsible for the downfall of the Hamlet just as much as the Ancestor
>A ruthless Pirate Captain who lives by stealing from and killing innocent people
>A mad, insane Hag whose experiments disgusted even the Ancestor
I know the intent behind those are too show the Ancestors victims, but the only one I feel bad for is the Siren
He might have thought it would make him and everyone else immortal, he may have considered it ironic revenge to drink the blood of a blooddrinker, or he might have just been 'inspired' by the vampire to introduce blooddrinking as an exotic new libation.
he was clearly already more than a little nuts at that point but he did it cause he hated them. and also for sport/shits and giggles
>Oh cool Darkest Dungeon 2 is coming, maybe they'll tone down the RNG bullshit that better game devs avoid
>Notice the arctic environment and the comment about FLAME in the trailer
Yep, there's gonna be some freezing weather mechanic where your team starts fisting themselves with a spiky gauntlet once the temperature drops 1 degree below what they want it to be. Have fun with that everyone.
That'd actually be a cool twist on the whole light level mechanic.
Lets look at it from a gameplay point of view. Crusader and leper are very similar, so it's possible crusader has been cut some of his powers given to the Leper. Hellion may have also got sheild breakers powers as well.
I imagine a big "cut and merge" process will take place. Then from the gaps replacements are made. Like maybe a "heavy spearman" or something could emerge. Someone who attacks from the third or fourth row agaisnt the enemies third and forth row. But has a lot of health.
Or like a dedicated sheild class, providing all parties memebers with protection.
>>by the time the 2nd game is anounced only 2.5% of the people who bought it finished the game
because i imagine most people play it like i do, they start a new run, mod it up, play the shit out of it for a few days, get burnt out cause its fairly repetitive for playing that much in a short time, abandon it for months, repeat from the beginning starting all over from scratch
they're changing the overall structure, that's what makes it a new game. We don't know what it will be yet but it's a safe bet that it won't be
>go to town
>pick a mission
>come back to town/prepare for next mission
people need to start putting this info in the op so we don't have a million
>lol why isn't it a DLC?
posts
>Ting ting'd before Pepe
Jesus christ.
Ahem
TRINKETS AND BAUBLES
I think you have to get to the top without your torch going out or you freeze
Petals must fall
test
>A mad, insane Hag whose experiments disgusted even the Ancestor
She just got very frumpy and obese. He dumped her because she wasn't dieting. She eat too many people and fungal mushrooms and became an absoulte unit.
I can see why he dumped her.
>Imagine the smell
>I'd rather go to the warrens.
>rush hour is the equivalent to the flesh boss
This, but unironically.
>where your team starts fisting themselves with a spiky gauntlet once the temperature drops 1 degree below what they want it to be.
Based Flagellant increase the tempature by trading health for heat. By fisting himself up the ass with a spiky gauntlet.
also grinding for money and heirlooms most of the time was retarded. you spend half your time just fucking about doing nothing, wasting your time between stress healing your good party members and running repetitive non boss dungeons for heirlooms and money. that shit's not fun compared to fighting the bosses, the game should have less grinding missions more boss fights
jokes on you. i find suffering fun.
ahem
fuck crops
and fuck the miller
What the fuck did he have agaisnt the miller?
>this map
I fucking hate the weald
>Steady girl. If we're called. We answer.
God the flesh is really a great boss, best use of them using all 4 tiles in game. Just how it changes and oozes. It's disgusting and has so many parts to fight. You have to adapt as it changes. But it has one big health bar so it's fair.
I think the flesh is the best boss in the game. There's no adds bullshit or anything.
once he started getting deep into the shit I think he had contempt for everything that didn't have at least 6 tentacles
git gud
Based Hound.
He's such a cunt. A detestable loveable cunt.
>Abomination.
Would hold and protect.
Now it's a journey I suspect we are getting less grinding and more boss fights.
Hopefully they know the "maths" to avoid the grinding .
ShindoL pls go
My dream is that our Ancestor/Heir are know stuck in a infinite time loop that extends past the bounds of the estate (Our Ancestor being the herald for the HoD grants him semi immortality as it can't be killed completely & the heir with the suicide ritual time trap assumed to explain NG+) for the sole purpose of fucking each other over till the end of time. Hell all you got to do to make this work properly is have the heir's final solution have a some form of hiccup that allows the Ancestor to do his own thing (while having his previous actions/results/effects on the world remain as some form of worldly scar) for a few years before the Heir can pop up & hire goons to fuck shit up. It's the perfect explanation to how he's managed to do so much damage.
It's probably won't happen but I would really love if Marvin's (& others) mods are officially added to the game. considering his involvement with the the DLC
Even worse or better depending on your perspective. There are fully on porn mods on the nexus.
I love how he expresses his contempt in the voice overs for the miller especially, dude is starving to death and the ancestor is like
>ugh you want me to help you grow fucking food? disgusting. don't you know there's horrible aliens to summon you stupid old man?
it's like he's mad the miller doesn't "get it"
Ancestor is perfect for ancap memes, so someone begging for help has earnt his disdain.
Ironic considering his wealth and fortune were handed to him.
>Ironic considering his wealth and fortune were handed to him.
the thing is he used to be a good dude because he realized this, he was beloved by his people
He finally snapped from having to hang out with rich fags all the time
What the fuck did they do to Nexus? Where is adult only.
I'm excited for a game I didn't even like. I hated the games RNG bullshit and wanted it to be more like X-Com. But dang if it wasn't stylish.
About to play DD for the first time since launch. Are there any characters or town improvements I should prioritize investing in? What characters are hot garbage now?
I figured it out, why you all enjoy this game.
You are all hellraiser cenobytes, you revel in your pain and suffering.
I think he was always doomed to go the way he did though. The family is cursed. It's a very lovecraft style, the idea that the character is driven by something they can't really stop or control; something in their blood. because he was super racist and all the stories are really about the horrors of "tainted" or "impure" blood ie race mixing
Appears on some games doesn't appear on others. Like I think the less popular a game is, the messier and more jumbled it's categories are. You need an account to see adult content.
You can still make one for free but they make that she hard as they hide it well. They pretty much force you to make donation. But with enough googlefu you can find a way to make a free account with no bs.
>alchemist
>heals
Lies.
>Alchemist
Err you mean Occultist buddy.
Excuse me.
If you have the crimson court installed, get the blood distillery or whatever that produces 2 blood vials after every mission. and of course, the earlier you get that bank, the earlier the gold starts to snowball.
Fuck I might just aim to get the bank, I'm pretty much past the two year mark in game. I got the crimson court expansion after killing ever boss in the main estate.
Blood distillery is pretty necessary.
i like it because of the ground it treads that very few other games do
buffing, debuffing, guarding stress healing and shit actually matters
its one of the games where just attacking on every turn won't be enough to save you in some cases
and in particular, poison is extremely powerful and i cant even think of another game where it is so effective, usually poison builds get the shaft and its great experimenting with your heroes to maximize their strengths
>Also how does the narrator make sense?
Why are you complaining about a game you didn't play?
How do you know the dude that halberd belongs to is his son
Kekpilled and underrated
>he doesn't know about the Ancestor's Wild Ride
All this has happened before, and all this will happen again.
>yfw it's the same plot but in all new locations
How exactly?
>they both hold flags they must be related
Go to bed MatPat.
well they're not in the sequel, so clearly they died
Can someone explain the blood system?
>How does the Narrator make sense?
The game operates on something of a cycle, or alleges that one exists. There's always some cunt who starts the process of waking the Heart of the World, and then some other series of events that succeeds in putting it back to sleep. The ending of the game insists this will continue until someone fails, or the stars go right and the Heart of the World hatches and destroys the planet.
The Ancestor is one of the guys who woke the fucker and returned to join its flesh, and is speaking on events as they occur because he is literally fucking watching it occur. Since all flesh is part of the same being, his consciousness is a fragment of the Heart, essentially making him part of the final boss.
He is both cheering you on, taunting you and making remarks because the Heart is watching everything you do and is amused at your pathetic and ultimately futile attempts to stop it, which is why even in victory, the final quote spoken by the narrator is both annoyed, bitter, and hopeless.
The devs not reactively nerfing strategies that work just because "lul, difficulty!"
>OH SHIT! The Heir is looking for new moths to the flame, what new heroes are going to join him? What's their design/abilities/backstory?
>work the system to become literally invincible
>gets nerfed
>REEEE STOP REMOVING MY FUN
I'll spoiler it if you are new.
Basically heroes can be infected by "bloodsucker" enemy types. The court enemies are either giant mosquitos or varying degrees of mosquito beasts. When a hero does become infected they, suffer, or a blessed with the crimson curse. Court enemies also start appearing in the base game as well.
The curse has 4 states. Cursed, as where they get a bunch of debuffs but one speed. Craving where they need blood. Waisting where they are dying and without blood. When you drink blood on craving or waisting they become the final state "bloodlusted". They get a bunch of buffs from this, as well as extra damage. Drinking another blood vial while bloodlusted gives 50 stress but also 50% more damage! You need blood vials to keep your guys going.
The curse can spread in town if non infected heroes take part in the same building as an infected hero.
Finally a very angry relgious man will hunt down your parties sometimes if any of them have the curse .
>post overpowered builds online
>surprised when the devs nerf it in the sequel
WOW
So is there a "god" of light of some sort assisting the religious classes, or are humans so delusional they willed holy power into existence? I remember hearing the final boss of one of the DLCs is implied to be a baby Heart of Darkness or some cosmic horror, so there's definitely some otherworldly beings out there.
IIRC it's implied that the 'light' is purely the fabrication of human imagination but that their belief makes it real
Devs and some of the stuff the ancestor said is that there is no god. But the "light" and "virtures" are manifestation of human willpower.
This but you still managed the impossible and put it back to sleep so you could potentially keep putting it back to sleep as you take your "vigil".
They're changing combat and a bunch of other core systems
functioning keyboard interface
They aren't changing combat, they are "tuning it up" whatever that means.
Metagame is changing though. We going on a journey.
>Holy Duelists Lance Advance
pure kino
Will DD2 embrace Lovecraft's racism? Are there any mods for DD1 that turn it into something he'd be proud of (for example removing all non white characters, ect)?
>Holy Duelists Lance Advance
Holy Boners be granted to you for this.
there's a white Arbalest mod. I don't know if there's a white Occultist mod, though
Just make a class that is literally a cat and call it
>Niggerman
already.
>Alchemist
>Occultist
nigger wat
Well the Thrall Mod has the free town event be slavers... It's made by Marvin Seo so it's piratically offical.
are the slavers heroes? I think that'd be most inline with lovecraft's vision
No just fluff for the event, though the thrall is(in canon) a stupid/angry hulking black gladiator so it works with Lovecraft & IRL representation
Oh to the user who told us to look into the "Fear and hunger " game on steam it looks like the coin flips are fucking stacked agaisnt you. I watched a streamer get the opposite of his coin flips for a solid hour on 4 different charachters. It's not even RNG at this point it's just being a cunt. The Dev set it agaisnt you.
The setting is fucking terrifying and depressing. Highlights from the stream include
> Watching the streamer sacrfice a little girl to a human hydra, that looks like a human orgy pile and seeing her get eaten alive. The streamer got angry because it didn't give him anything and the human hydra called the streamer a prick for not feeding it more. .
>Chopping off the prison's guards huge dicks
>Seeing the dark wizard hero crawl out of a pit of human corpses .
I'll try and find the video I watched last night.
>Spoiler disappeared for human hydra bit.
Welp. youtube.com
Here's the guy.
>all these people referring to the ancestor as this singular person
You can really tell how there’s only 2.5% of people who own the game that have actually beat it and watched the end cutscene
>Wolfe.
He is okay, but I like CJU more.
I choose the guy at random. Gives a good overview of the game though.
It's too unfair. It's about 5 great british bongs on steam though. I might get it on sale. The Dev needs to make it more fair. I get it's meant to be 50/50, but it really isn't. This guy failed 100% of his flips in the dungeon.
Fear and Hunger could be a fucking amazing game. The setting is basicaly Berserk except more grimdark. Game's very open-ended, got lots of interesting mechanics and the story is pretty cool.
The coin flips fucking ruin everything though. While playing you have supposedl 50/50 chance of fucking dying on the spot in many cases and just losing all your progress.
Huh I'll have to check this out. Speaking of similar games does anybody know how that sci-fi-DD but with cards is? I'd like to find more Lovecraft/DD similar games (already know about Darkwood)
>beating the game
>not just playing it infinitely for “””fun”””

The entire game and everything within it works as metaphor if you ignore that you can name specific heroes.

Really weird that people turn this into a porn game. I guess that just happens to easily modded games.
>Really weird that people turn this into a porn game
It's not a full porn conversion yet, I saw some poor girls getting tentacles up the pooper on nexus though. A full porn conversion might happen if someone is willing to dedicated themselves to that level of depravity.
Say a man, bored of conventional extravagance .
Unironically kill yourself.
>mfw reading about what a Waffle House Index is
Gotta say, that’s some hardcore shit if part of your job is braving mother nature’s wrath just to serve some waffles. But man now I really want a DD-esque game that involves a Waffle House.
>Dungeons explorations are essentially you and your coworkers traversing the mysterious labyrinthine like storage room, freezer, for ingredients
>various quest objectives such as replacing the light bulbs in the storage room labyrinth, clearing out monsterous pests, investigating the unknown sound coming from the boiler room, etc
>all of this in DD’s art style and still narrated by Wayne June
Fuuuuck now I can’t get this outta my mind.
roaming boss battle.
"IT'S FUCKING RAW!"
There were no slavic pagans during the time of Northern Crusades. Unless you're implying something about Orthodoxy, I guess.
That's completely false. Orthodox Christianity was not universal at the time, and neither was Catholicism in the west. In the cities and major towns, sure. Most people were christian, but in rural areas and undeveloped wilderness paganism dominated.
I can't figure out how you're supposed to use the Slayer. Just keep buffing his nuke then try to oneshot bosses with it?
Do tell me more about those slavic pagans that warranted a whole crusade.
>Holy Duelists Lance Advance
I only now realized how much I want combo attacks in the sequel.
en.wikipedia.org
Just some pagan tribals, dude. And don't ask me to justify something that was overkill. Crusaders were motivated by faith, not facts.
You think they could've removed the two bone bros flanking the lower menu and fit the map screen in the resulting space? I kinda wanna fool around with it in Photoshop to see, it's just wasted space.
There is no light god. Most Lovecraftian works goes by the idea that there is no god or the devil but just beings of higher existence that does their own shit that is neither malevolent nor benevolent. However that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a possibility of a higher being may lean towards helping out humans. Once again, even in Lovecraft’s works while most gods are “neutral” there were ones that are clearly bad or good. But mostly bad.
No war or battle is motivated by anything more than greed, Crusaders were controlled though faith but they fought for greed.
That's irrelevant to the fact there were slavic pagans in the region. Norse ones too.
When will he FINISH the skins I unironically want to do a Stygian ShindoL run.
Other than Nyarlethotep, who is a massive prick and does what he does entirely because he is a cunt.
He'll never finish.
I don't disagree, but I feel the need to sperg when people say fighting and war is for anything more than greed.
Truly, we are, The Darkest Dungeon.
>Sprite swaps
"no"
You niggers ready to fight a whole mountain?
For the game, It's important to note that humans can ascend above the dark through sheer will power alone, that's the light, that's the flame. That's what becoming virtuous is about. While the world is basically fucked by evil, there is hope and man can overcome it.
So you guys think the mountain is a monster or is i just a giant abomination/old god thing trapped in ice?
I think the Mountain is just a mountain and the art is symbolic of the fact it's crawling with monsters and probably has a Heart-like being at its peak or something.
It's a protruding tumor of the thing that sleeps.

Touch and go campaigns were some of my favorite in any game. I remember being ground down to just rookies in Xcom2 WOTC before rallying my troops, defending the avenger from waves of anemones that they were hopelessly outclassed against and then eventually taking down the Chosen that had killed by previous best soldiers.
I’m very happy I didn’t give up on that campaign.
I see like two possiblities.
We either
>set sail to the hamelt to the new world. Journey through jungles and deserts and shit to reach the moutains of madness
or
>Journey overland from the hamelt and the enviroment gets colder and more maddening as we go north.
He better hurry, I want a skin for my bleeding boi
The ending still blows my mind. So does it mean that humanity is just a portion of some cosmic being that gained their own consciousness? And that we can’t kill the Heart because that would mean the death of humanity itself? Is that’s whats happening, or is that just the Heart just trying to fuck with us.
I want to see tag-team moves like that that fully animated
Ignoring my shiddy PS skills do you think a UI redesign that uses the unused space like this has value?
I doubt it, but there are 18 people working on the game now. When the game was first made there were only 5.
There is hope.
>what would you like to see in DD2?
i hope they dont causalize it to cater to shitters
>Crusader and Highwayman highfive after completing a combo
Dancer parties are the best and most fun, FACT.
For sure humanity is just another arm of the heart or of the powers that spawned the heart. Humans cannot kill the Heart currently but can bring it under control (kinda) like the ancestor did, or put it to sleep like your heroes did, also the heart fears humanity because we can become more then we are.
Fucking kill yourself and your fucking faggotry, I'm sick of the fucking waifu shit infesting every fucking game.
Somebody, PLEASE, go and suggest this to Red Hook now. While they're still in this early stage of the development.
I was a backer for the first game since Day 1 I wonder if I emailed them they'd give even half a shit.
i mean if you threw like 5 bucks in the pot probably not. maybe you'd get a thanks or something
Dude, you shouldn't have used antiquarian guard there. Or use such a shit party. What is wrong with you?
I uh... gave more then that we'll say.
>Hates RNG/roguelike mechanics and being at the mercy of chance.
>Play darkest dungeon.
You see the problem here, right? Like, fuck. If I go and stick my dick in a blender, I'm the one choosing to do it knowing full well what I'm getting into. I don't get to do it and then complain about how I didn't want to get my dick mangled.
The man hates the game so much he plays it wrong on purpose to trigger people
>people actually think this post is serious
It's literally just a joke based on what RNGfags actually believe. There are actually serious cases such as dragonfags retarded review.
>Aniquarian ensures that no matter what the enemy does he'll hit the Occultist
lmao
>Poorly using skills and heroes
>Not using your grey matter to keep your party alive with various skills and combinations which make it very hard to die.
I-it's the rng tho!
Part of the new meta better involve a party member getting replaced with an eldritch Thing that begins to kill people back in town one by one while you try to witch hunt out and kill the copy.
You cant have an ice setting like this without The Thing.
Well, it's different if you're a major donor. I would email them, share your thoughts with them on the game.
I can absolutely see combination super moves being added, having both character's attack art overlapping and sliding across the screen together, two turns spent, Ancestor bellowing in your ear like "TOGETHER OUR EMBERS FORM THE ROARING FLAME!"
They have husbando stuff don't worry
Lets not get too hype. We don't know if they will actually do that shit.
>literally could have ended the fight with just one shank from the Antiquarian
>instead turns the guy who’s one hit away from being erased into a bigger target
I.. honestly don’t even know what the hell your goal was.
More interactions between classes, maybe friendships and rivalries.
all I want is more holy inquisitorial gypsies
Come on anons we need to make a class for this game. We need to brainstorm some ideas and hope furries don't ruin this like Kaiju Combat
>Murder each other in the caravan or in the dungeon if enough stress is reached.
maybe lovers?
They need to fix difficulty risk/reward scaling.
I have no problems with champion dungeons being the hardest, but the reward must also compensate for the risk. Running Medium Champ should be better than Long Vet, but the case is such that the amount of stress and unique "elite" monsters makes it not as worth in terms of risk and money.
Champion Shambler is harder than the 1st DD, but he doesn't even drop a unique boss trinket, it's better to just kill him at lvl 1.
The Crimson Court is pretty much indicative of this entire design philosophy. The curse is literally AIDS and many of the trinkets are either complete garbage or just not as good as shit you can get in vanilla (or even color of madness, they learned). It is genuinely easier to complete Bloodmoon by just fucking ignoring the DLC so you don't have to deal with the extra cancer of the curse, less inventory space from blood/invitations, bloodsuckers and Fanatic, etc. Some extra stress is nothing.
No, fuck off. Delete this comment. Please don't give those lazy Cunts at Red Hook ideas on how to turn this game into more of a slog than the first one. I fucking refuse to do a perfect dungeon run with zero deaths, no stress, no deaths door and no affliction for the le meme levels of RNG they implement to suddenly go -
BOUNTY HUNTER PHOBE
despite there not being a Bounty Hunter in the party during the run and then rendering that character unable to party up with Bounty Hunters unless you pay 5k gold to remove the quirk or they suffer some retarded 50% stress modifier.
Fuck you.
Dragonfaggot's "retarded" review was right though. And his main complaint wasn't the RNG, it was the game being padded out with recycled bosses, trinkets being mostly useless shit, and everything being so damn grindy in such a repetitive game (same dungeons, enemies, combat). Which is completely right.
t. beat DD on Stygian
Also Leper is best husbando
Obviously a Sherpa guide class with extra resistance to any debuffs the snowstorm brings into the mix
>abomination and crusader hate each other at first but by the end of the game they see each other as people and have become the broest of bros
>friends dying in combat have a chance to afflict the survivor with either horrible despair or revengeful rage beyond measure
Does Dismas have the Crimson Curse in this? Just look at his teeth. He's gonna take Reynauld's blood like he took his gold.
cure that shit asap or suffer
I personally cannot wait for Red Hook to nerf or outright remove any viable strategy that players come up with so they can keep pushing the idea that the game is in anyway difficult while artificially making the game 'hard'.
Anyone have the highwaymans comic?
Pretty much this. I love the game but holy shit the game time is artificially inflated by grinding and copy pasted bosses.
>it's a district needs 300 sheilds episode
Epic dungeons are too long, and not being able to bring firewood from the start is just making it harder, I wouldn't say they did out of spite but it feels like they were like "lets take a limb off, see how they do without it" kind of vibe from the devs.
The "long dungeons" were the perfect length. Jesus christ I'm not looking forward to doing DD3 expedition.
I've just brought "Colour of madness", what do you guys think of it?
Less randomness. Game should let important decisions matter. At the very least get rid of the speed RNG. That's the one that bugs me the most because it's so fucking inconsistent and you can be completely fucked over by a bad roll.
I like some randomness like the stress mechanics, critical hits, hit rating (forcing you to get certain items), etc. But the move order RNG is just unbearably terrible in the late game when every single move counts.
Not necessarily, could have missed the hit.
I will admit that's a horribly balanced party, though.
New houndmaster doggo
Just move all the class mods from 1 to 2 & I'll be happy. But if were asking for new stuff add vermintide hero's equivalents & a couple of For Honor champs. They should be easy to convert especially Salt, & LawBringer. Oh yeah & the Bloodborne Hunters with a Yharnam equivalent location (you can push it to 6 separate classes if you squint your eyes).
>tfw this is literally what they did in Early Access
>it's not even a multiplayer game so it's not a balance thing
>it ended up being not very hard at all anyways except for brainlets
>fans still use "git gud" to dismiss any kind of criticism
I mean, he still drastically improved the odds that the Occultist would get hit
there is a part where he insists that RNG killed his character when he obviously pretty much allowed it to happen
>houndmaster can change doggos to either be a fully-fledged attacker or support unit
>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOW DARE YOU ENJOY SOMETHING I DON'T HAVE TO ENJOY
>dat wilbur in the reflection of the plague doctor's mask
10/10
Heresy must not be allowed to take root no matter how small or trivial it may appear.
>tfw Rey canonically sacrificed himself in DD1 so Dismas could make it
A "Far East Traveler" samurai class like Jack or Shiva wouldn't go astray in DD
This I unironically want a disgraced samurai/ronin. I thought up a bunch of skills for one, before realizing someone made a ronin made that was pretty similar. Unfortunately the mod is partially broken and the dialogue was pretty bad for him. Along with bad animations as he was made using hellion stuff.
No. He was a fucking asshole even before he got involved with the eldritch shit as seen from the Crimson Court. Then after learning about the eldritch thing he thought "Neat this could be fun" and proceeded to be even more of an asshole
I mean just look at his reports from Color of Madness. Only thing he regrets is that he can't see more of the shit he wrought personally
You referring to the the Ronin class mod or the Dark Souls 2 Samurai?
>No Vestal, no crusader
Hm I wonder if The Light could also be an eldritch entity like it is in every single modern Lovecraft-inspired work
The ronin class mod. The samurai seemed better made but putting le epic souls in my DD isn't my thing.
>the whole point of the genre is that there's no hope in the cosmos
>the single point of being most associated with hopes and dreams, the stars, are sources of Yogg-Sothoth and other eldritch beings
b-b-but muh deus vult
Devs confirmed it's not. The light is sheer human will power and will. That's what being virtuous is about. It's about performing above your limits.
That's what the evil fears.
>we are the flame
>yfw For Honor tier customisation for your characters instead of just palette swaps
source or shut up
I can picture him being an Abom variant where he switches stances like the Abom's transformation.
>how much fucking free time had the guy
Well I mean he was wealthy as fuck to the point where he was part of massive lavish parties and shit. I think he had a bit of free time.
Fair enough, but if you ever change your mind the DS class mods are pretty fun. The art/animation for them is alright & their abilities/trinkets are overall fun to have. I think their 2 different modders doing them so you might find the same class done twice in some cases.
A lot of people say there is a dev tweet that says there is no god of the light. Trying to find it now. It seemed like common knoweldge.
Also the concept of the "light" fits the whole theme of overcoming your stress and anxiety, and fighting through it. Humans are the light, we are the flame.
>ywn be born into a rich estate and have enough free time to study potential occult paths to power
why even live
>Tfw Dismas probably blames himself for Reys death
the entire point of cosmic horror is that humans are woefully inept and unprepared for the truths of the substrate of reality and that all the cosmos can promise us is death
>why even live
no reason to, time to become flesh
>game is about beating the horror through sheer will power, for both you and your heroes. It's about trying to spit in the face of cosmic horror.
>your heroes repeatedly die on any reasonable difficulty
>your victory is ultimately hollow and evil proceeds to infest the world anyway
what did they mean by this
I don't think he has a single shred of empathy for anyone, even if he does think he fucked up which I also doubt. He was a monster far before his research with the implication that he liked killing people who at most just seem to bother him like the Countess.
The ruins, evidence of the family before him seem like they were some conquerors or at least a very wealthy feudal family. Shit the Church trusted them with holy artifacts. The family was probably pretty wealthy and influtential. It looks like they either moved from the estate, or it was already declining when the ancestor came along.
My point is he would of had fat stacks of cash either way.
>how much free time had the guy
based french poster
Ehh our Ancestor is just a sore loser. What if he's just bullshiting us cause he's salty that somebody shanked his god?
I'll reserve judgement for when I complete the game. But I still think even if it is "hollow" and "grimdark" it is still about overcoming.
Other user's have said we can become greater than said evil, that's why it fears man.
>JB Peterson order and chaos.myth.exe
>what if the narrative is a lie
user... come on. even in the unlikely event you end up being right, that's just a writer performing an asspull. themes that are subverted by a single narrative event or duplicitous character are m. night tier at best and fan fic tier writing at worst.
Cave.Loli.
Interpreation I guess. The game has a big "order and chaos" thing going on with the heir building everything back up.
>We actually truly destroy the evil in DD2
>Turns out this was all part of some other eldritch god's machinations and used us as pawns to get rid of it
>pulling peterson out in a discussion of cosmic horror
Yeah nothing Jung or Peterson talk about have much to do with cosmic horror except tangentially. Cosmic horror is very much a total literary denial of the interplay that Jung was talking about. Bringing the two into conversation is anachronistic and just kind of like... I don't know, freshman college level analysis.
You want to be talking about Derleth if you want to make an argument about human tenacity in the face of the cosmic alien intent.
There's also very little that's dark about cosmic horror. The threat is incomprehensible because man is so small by comparison, not man's conception of evil.
I appreciate you trying to engage the game on that level but you're obviously reaching hard. Keep studying though, user, your curiosity is good.
God how many elder god factions did lovecraft make? There seem to be a lot.
Is it weird how all the fair skinned heroes have alternate palettes where they are black, but none of the black heroes have palettes where they aren't black? Weird huh
Maybe a mounted class.
Lovecraft made his theme and lore free to be used by anyone. It's not cpyrighted so anyone can create anything.
There is litterally only one black one you ninny
>That happens
>Pic Related pops up
>New Zone is know available for play
NEVER EVER
True true it's a major asspull but it gives me a bit of a smile thinking how salty he is & his whole speech is trying to save face mid seething
>wanting arbalest's hair on a caucasian
>Yeah nothing Jung or Peterson talk about have much to do with cosmic horror except tangentially. Cosmic horror is very much a total literary denial of the interplay that Jung was talking about. I'm just some cunt on the net who watched some of memerson's videos, but like they throw the affliction, stress and virtue mechanics in your face throughout the game. It's a huge theme. Other user's have said the great eldritch evil fears man in the game.
forgot to add
>Despite several claims to the contrary, there is currently no evidence that any company or individual owns the copyright to any of Lovecraft's work, and it is generally accepted that it has passed into the public domain
I hope the musketeer becomes its own hero in this one instead of an arbalest reskin
>Mythos shit is all interelated.
>Crimson curse is a bloodborne diease.
>Vilebloods are pretty much like the court mosquito people
I mean, it's not unfeasable.
I always wanted a At the Mountains of Madness zone for Darkest Dungeon so this is great.
I can't wait for the penguin boss fight.
No but, like from lovecraft's actual writings, how many eldtrich uber gods are there?
>Affliction
>Stress
>the rarity of virtue
none of these are mechanical or thematic arguments for human tenacity, they're quite the opposite.
also if you have an interest in the genre and in academic discourse, you should read Weird Tales.
taking what you're saying at face value (again, citation desperately needed) there's still the question of why it fears man. e.g. because man breeds like rats and runs at its home ad nauseam until it finally goes "jesus fuckin christ what is wrong with you fuckers constantly knocking each other up"
many
There's quite a few of them.
DIRE PENGUINS!
ONE JOB REDHOOK
ONE FUCKING JOB
THEY BETTER BE IN THIS GAME!
they need to fix lineups badly
the need of vestals/occultists and jesters is pretty limiting
upgrading armor should make the character look different, same with trinkets
more strategic options in combat like duo-attacks or something
even the exploration thingy could use some work
>baby dire penguin
>joins your party
I need to indulge my autism and do a count of "god tier entities and beyond in lovecraft".
Also god fucking damn it, Conan also has lovecraft shit and vice versa because Howard and lovecraft were bezzies.
I thought the reason why the heart hated/feared humans was because they had the ability to separate itself from the whole. Kinda like a cancer that keeps spreading.
Where the fuck is the crusader
I think the main ones are Azathoth, Cthulhu, Yog-sothoth, Shub-niggurath, Hastur,
I'm getting a big man is seperate to nature vibe, or can seperate itself from god's will vibe here.
shouldn't have mentioned Hastu
>regular penguins are support/stress enemies
>Albino Penguins are heavy damage/ meat shield enemies
He's the final boss
Pretty good.
>man is just another faction of eldritch abomination
>likening it to a cancer
>human virtue
>cosmic horror
>god's will
whew alright anons i'm out
>Also entering JRPG territory if we slay flesh god for real in DD 2.
Good ideas.
Actual equipment instead of linear upgrades
Make camping skills remotely interesting
Subclasses
Actual meaningful variance to shit.
>2b porn mod
nice. just wish it wasn't so god damn bright compared to everything else.
>only just managed to beat the first game even though I've been playing it on and off since release
>see this
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH
FUCK
I haven't even played the DLCs either.
Ok I get that, but as the cancer isn't that good for us?
Unless we kill the body of course.
How is anyone hyped for this. The devs spent the entirety of the games existence finding out what people found fun and nerfing or removing it.
are dismas and reynauld just bros? is there a canon storyline for those two?
also are there any relationships in the game (friend, romantic) or is it all non-canon?
Please for the love of everything fucking holy in this world
make the game less of a grinding over padded nightmare of tedium
Honestly it's going to be bitter sweet as fuck if Reynauld was the canon one who sacrificed himself
because i didn't pay for the first one, and won't pay for this
and i will have fun.
You're free to imagine whatever you like about the characters.
I'm still not convienced user, I think there is something about human will and destiny, even if in the long run it's pointless. Considering the teaser has "THE FLAME" as a big theme agaisnt the darkness/evil.
>MUH FLAME
wat.
To think man is separate from nature is essentially the antithesis of cosmic horror.
A voodoo priest class based around dominating enemies
Classes based around Edward Grey and Lord Baltimore
A mad arsonist based around power and explosives
There's also an idea I had about a golem that would need blood to activate, so he would be immune to stress, but would need one your characters to lose a massive amount of HP and some stress to become active.
Reminder to always sacrifice the cowards first
So we got pigmen, fishmen, & bonemen but guess what we don't got yet? BEASTMEN. Hell easy way of explaining it is have our ancestor corrupted some form of bumfuck Druid culture, have them polymorph/fuck animals, and a few generations of degeneracy then BAM disgusting furfags are canon.
Honestly I like CC in bloodmoon because you can clear each boss area in one run apiece and still end up with more weeks than normal AND get those trinket sets which are really fucking good in most cases.
is there any good Darkest Dungeon fanfiction
How the hell speed rolls work anyway, I've had a Robber with 22 act after a Skelly with like 9 last ngiht
More or less
Humanity is just a fragment of its flesh that became sentient and populated the surface, but the Heart of the World is gigantic sleeping creature that makes up for most of the Earth's mass. Due to its sheer size, humanity can't kill the Thing by any means.
>One day a traveling merchant came into the hamlet. He claimed to my denizens that he held goods and treasures from the cold exotic lands of the north.
>at first I dismissed him as nothing more than a peddler of stories and fools. Yet there was one object that held my interest. A single flightless bird.
>With a snap of my fingers I had the merchant arrested, his goods seized, and my prize.
Ok I get that, but we are at least opposed to the great evil that spawned us. I'll finish the game and then do my own reserach etc.
But with this emphasis on the "Light" and the "flame" I think the devs are saying something about the power of humanity's will. Even if in the longrun it is pointless. I mean these aren't lovecraft protagonists learning shit and then going mad, these are soldiers slaying bandits, skelly bois and eldritch shit.
A lot of them aren't actually named is the problem. Like a shit ton more than the ones described exist, and are mentioned, but only vaguely.
It's your speed stat plus a roll of the dice, so if you have 10 speed and roll a 1, and the enemy has 5 speed and rolls a 6, he goes first.
man kills the body, both irl and in the context of the dd universe by unleashing the eldritch horror in the first place
thanks for not just digging your heels in, i think the take that man is a serious threat to the abominations (and itself) is a better way of thinking about the themes than the idea that man is inherently virtuous
but it's also consistent with the idea that if the light is the manifestation of mortal will, it may very well be an existential threat
>haven't played in a while, try out radiant to get back into the swing of things
>first dungeon my vestal gets stressed to 90
>no biggie, swap her out with a bounty hunter on the second one
>meet the collector who puts three of my heroes on death's door
>manage to beat him with no deaths, get a fucking shiny rock and no heads
>next room those three die
what the fuck
>manage to beat him with no deaths, get a fucking shiny rock and no heads
>next room those three die
what the fuck
Should have just ditched the mission then and there, at least the shiny rocks can make up some of the cost
wow... so this was the horrible truth of the world he found? I didn't know red hook took the lovecraft influence so seriously. good on them for staying faithful to the source material.
can you retreat without anybody dying? i didn't know that.
Yeah, people only die from retreating in the DD or a few other event quests.
So the game is about
Sentient cancer cells running around with their own petty squabbles becoming malignant(in the hamlet maybe) and trying to slay their own body through both will power and the mainfestation of that will power as magic[/spoilers]
Well good luck with that you also have to add Solomon Kane under Howard & Clark Ashton Smith's mix of Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Lovecraft in between his stories. While including all the side authors who mentioned the mythos in passing in their books. If you actually want to do this I would recommended trying to find a list of the fictional books in the mythos & work from their. Stuff besides the Necronomicion like the Cult De Ghoules.
nothing wrong with a little bromance
welcome to the reason DD2 will be largely received on Yea Forums as "casualized"
it sounds like chances are good based on the press release from red hook that characters will be less prone to death so you can build up a party of consistent adventurers so long as you play intelligently
whatever this game deserves mainstream success and if that's what it takes, i'm cool with no longer playing 2d og xcom
I'll add if so, that's a pretty good Cosmic horror spin on the whole thing.
if you want to be reductive and mix up your own analogies with honest analysis yeah that sounds about right
willpower and purity have a place at the center of lovecraft's og works (the dude was a virulent racist, not in the modern sense but actually racist, so the idea of purity came ideologically along with that) but the point is that they're continuously quashed and re-emerging, obtaining only momentary victory eclipsed by the inevitable rise of more powerful forces at some nondescript time in the future which for us seems eons away but is a mere blink to the cosmic forces we contend with
in that way we celebrate a hollow non-victory, while even our failure doesn't belong to us, but to our doomed children and They Who Sleep
oh well if you weren't being sarcastic and just mixed up analogy for the sake of brevity then yeah you got it about right in my view
but obviously these things are up to interpretation, i'm not trying to indoctrinate you.
>Random books you find are Crazy and days nights blind items revealed
The holloywood redpill is one of the worst. I hate to be
>That warhammer fag
But the only way I can sum it up is if slaanesh corrupted and owned the place, or more likely slaanesh was born in Hollywood
Yeah, I asusmed that, but what dice is it using, a D20? Because the fucker needed at least a 14
Worked though didnt it
all surface level analysis, it's really about niggers like all lovecraft works
what do you think set the ancestor off on his dark path?
I wasn't being sarcastic, cheers senpai, now I know the eldritch truth.
Now after spoiling mysef I must complete it. If I can will myself to do it holy shit, I hate the slog design of crimson court and DD3
>that is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons passing, even death may die
>451894931
Ok, so real talk.
In lovecraft's view
Niggers>Cthulu ?
What the fuck are you talking about?
not quite, but he really was very racist and you can see it in his work. Outside of overt examples like "niggerman" the cat he also writes a lot about mixing with "savages" and how it corrupts the blood.
But really if anything Cthulu is the jews
no problem i did a lot of work on this for one of my degrees but haven't been able to teach a class in years, so it's a good feel to get a little taste of that again.
what's really sad about lovecraft's work is that bar thinking some humans are better than others, he's right about basically everything. the amount of mental gymnastics you have to do to escape the conclusions of cosmic horror is astounding. god, science, all that shit pales in comparison to the truth that literally everything in the universe has one thing and only one thing in common: it could kill you.
asimov and clarke had some good literary counterpoints but they're bubbling with something that feels a lot like delusional optimism
I took the spiral of learning about how depraved Hollywood is. I felt sick. Crazy days and nights is blog by an entertaiment lawyer that predicted the Weinstein scandal with basically 100% accuarcy. Most of the shit he seems to say turns out to be true. Most of it seems to be holloywood drama but he has brought up serious pedophile shit.
How does "HUMANITY FUCK YEAH" make you feel? I was leaning towards this game heading in that direction but you've made me do a 180.
I think i read somewhere that classes are intentionally unbalanced.
So next time some retard tells you grave robber is a good class, just smuggly chuckle.
based schizophrenic user
>he also writes a lot about mixing with "savages" and how it corrupts the blood.
It does though both IRL & in his stories. Their cultists who worship the old gods in most of his stories, who devolve into actual monsters. This goes both ways with white people to. You remember the African explorer lineage story or how he portrays Italians in The Horror at Red Hook/Re-Animator?
Why did he think slavs were subhuman again?
In general? Asmiov's The Last Question is probably the most read "HUMANITY FUCK YEAH" story that isn't pop. fiction. I think it's good but again, the number of things that have to line up just right for a good outcome makes it look like we're statistically doomed, see the Fermi paradox.
But in terms of DD, if the series heads in that direction I think it'll surprise a lot of people like me. I'm not really sure what I would do with that or what it would look like. Anyway, by the time you prevail over an Eldritch abomination you're probably something more than human and you've reached a level of literary abstraction that's just not useful in the real world. Which is fine for entertainment, I do love Warhammer, but I don't think it has a lot of value to an academic angle of analysis.
While lovecraft was super racist his views were influenced by eugenics.
I found the story were the french family and their servants inbreed so much they became a horde of white baboon people hilarious.
learn2probabilistic n' stats
Cheers, I'll make a note of the authors you mentioned and their books.
I should probably add "yet" to the very end of the second bit there. There are some interesting questions useful to the philosophy of science, and philosophy of social science, posed by the existence of transhumans which can be further interrogated by a story where humanity transcends its natural limits, and a lot of very smart people like Ray Kurzweil seem to think we will approach a transhuman state as early as 2040. But none of that has a lot of relevance to life here today.
That stuff is beyond my exposure though so me talking about it is just bar room bullshit.
>we will approach a transhuman state as early as 2040
Not on my fucking watch we won't.
No problem dude. Also no need to do a lot of reading user. Short stories and YouTube videos are the lazy thinking man's greatest tools:
