Valve already did.
Hell, I have yet to play a windows exclusive that doesn't run much better on proton.

>make the whole installation process without using the terminal.
>dual boot
>show that you could get better framerates without windows processes in the background

Go work for codeweavers and improve wine by fixing bugs.

Retrieve the source code for recent Nvidia's Geforce drivers. That's all. Everything else that matters for Linux gaming will be fixed shortly afterwards.

Or just buy AMD.

Make it less pain in the ass for non-Proton (and even then proton doesn't work for steam shit: RPGMaker notable) shit to run.

>You need Lutris to install Magic: Arena
>Somehow this is a "good" thing for Linux gaming.

If they don't run native what else you want? You can just double click them with just Wine, but most game require windows dependencies and workarounds, that's why you use Lutris, it make them easier.

What about mods? Do they work with wine?

I only buy games with native Linux port

No. If your game uses a mod loader it will shit the bed. Fuck Linux.

You don't need Lutris, but even then its a good option since its constantly updated. Also what do you mean proton doesn't work for steamshit? I have yet to encounter a game that doesn't work better than on windows, sure you have to configure it properly but such is life.

Linux is already much, much better than windows for gaming and almost everything else, its the steep learning curve that keeps normies away because they're so used to doing things the MS way.

Depends how the mod has been done. Most mods work fine though.

Yes they do, not only that but modding games is far easier in Linux because you get access to the entire process resources and much more complete tools. I haven't fucked around much with mods but the following games work fine with mods.

>torchlight 2
>skyrim
>dark souls 1,2 and 3

Mods and modloaders aren't the same thing, and even then modloaders simply move files around and should be easily run by even older wine versions.

>If they don't run native what else you want?
To make the experience near native?

>Install wine
>Run Magic: Arena through Wine
>Crashes with an installation window load-bar that finishes first then nothing.
>Ok, let's try Proton as a non-Steam game
>Doesn't load anything, no crash log, etc.
>Ok, shit, let's try Lutris!
>Requires non-free dependencies
>Ok, let's wait a month for the suse repository to stop being retarded
>Finally install Lutris
>Try to install Magic: Arena finally
>ERROR! ERROR! ERROR! ERROR! all through the terminal log
>WTF, why the hell did I install Wine and Lutris if this shit isn't supposed to fix those errors?
>Give up and go back to playing Into the Breach and Slay the Spire, the only two Proton games that actually work so far without being a huge pain in the ass.

This is why Linux will never get main-stream beyond servers: The actual DESKTOP/user experience is a huge pain in the ass and not ready for prime-time.

I will applaud Valve for trying to make the experience better and funding DXVK, but right now the experience is still piss-poor as it was in the 90's and 00's, no matter how much ProtonDB says shit is "gold" and the non-Steam shortcut is supposed to make shit "easier to game with!"

If games stop requiring DX to run and instead start using vulcan then there will be one less thing stoping you from using GNU/Linux for gayming.
Same with other properitary libs.

when xcloud/psnow is available on linux

This desu
It is not worth anyone's time jumping through hoops to get a videogame working on Linux when you could just keep a windows dualboot handy for gaming.
Its great if you can get a windows title running on Linux within 10 minutes, but if you can't its better to just stop trying and relegate it to your windows partition.

It always and forever will remain shit.

>Give up and go back to playing Into the Breach and Slay the Spire, the only two Proton games that actually work so far without being a huge pain in the ass
Both of these are native Linux games, user.

>Ok, let's wait a month for the suse repository to stop being retarded

You don't have the slightest idea about what the fuck you're doing. Here's how you fucking do it you wngblows pleb.

>remove your current wine version
>add the official wine repo to your sources
>install the latest stable release
>download winetricks
>lookup the game's dependencies and install them
>make sure you've got your wine environment setup and run the exe
>if it crashes ruin it with winedbg and look up the error

The systems isn't perfect but before you shit on it make sure you're at least doing it correctly.

Also why the fuck are you running suse?

>do something wrong
>doesn't work
>WOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWW

>games stop requiring DX to run
That's starting to happen, but that ignores that there is still a HUGE swath of games that require DX10 or earlier that are not able to be "converted" so easily.

Now, granted, Wine and DXVK/Valve are trying to make in-roads there, but right now the experience leaves a lot to be desired. ProtonDB's self-reporting (like wines, desu) is fucking ass.

>Want to try a game
>Go to read the ProtonDB reports
>It loads in and seems fine form a five minute trial of it. :)
>Gold
>Try to install it
>Shit doesn't run
>Updated drivers/etc.
>WTF.

Install windows :^)

>>Requires non-free dependencies
what? such as?
>>Ok, let's wait a month for the suse repository to stop being retarded
Let me guess, you use Ubuntu? You install them with dpkg, or compile then from source.
>>ERROR! ERROR! ERROR! ERROR! all through the terminal log
user... If you're using Linux and don't want to touch the terminal why are you even using Linux...?

I'm sorry user, it will never get to that point, Linux is not a gayming OS, Wine, Proton, dxvk are great, but they won't make of Linux a gayming OS in just one night, if gaming is your priority, you're better just using Windows.

>Needing to install Winetricks when Lutris says to install Wine-staging
>INSTALL WINE STAGING ON YOUR SYSTEM IF YOU PLAN ON PLAYING WINDOWS GAMES.
>Also why the fuck are you running suse?
Try: Debian, eg: The fucking distro that Ubuntu is based on. Which REQUIRES the fucking suse version for some godforesaken reason.

Hello is here anyone who can play fortnite with myself? My myself name is NIIB, please tell me yourself name so we are allowed to play with yourself! (sorry i has no good on english and i has uses translator)

Once a LTS Kernel comes out with Amdgpu improvments and Freesync support for noob distros then it'll be even more accessible. Wine/Proton/DXVK getting support for more anti-cheat software is a project goal iirc.
Know if shit like specialk works with wine? Kaldien sucks M$ dick but his fixes are great.

DX10 is supported by WINE, DX11 doesn't work on wayland at least i couldn't figure it out for nvidia
Drivers are also huge pain in the back.
Also a single wrong dependency and you are fucked.
But fixing your OS is part of the "experience".

huh?

unrar, for instance. Go to ask the Lutris support.
>Dunno why. :) You should ask the Debian crew to fix that!
Gee... thanks.

Into the Breach is not Native, but thanks for playing:

store.steampowered.com/app/590380/Into_the_Breach/

Slay the Spire must've gotten a native port within the last month since Proton was the only method of getting it to run in December.

>if gaming is your priority, you're better just using Windows.
OP asks: What can you do to make Linux better for gaming?
I answer: Make it less shit to actually install Windows shit on.
>You and 3 others: WOW! WHY WOULD YOU WANT IT TO BE LESS A PAIN IN THE ASS TO RUN WINDOWS GAMES ON!? WHAT ARE YOU!? CASUAL!??!?!?!?!?!?!

Proton is still in development, you must know how to properly configure wine to get some titles to work. Proton is no different.

>Which REQUIRES the fucking suse version for some godforesaken reason.

wtf are you talking about?

>Know if shit like specialk works with wine? Kaldien sucks M$ dick but his fixes are great.
SpecialK overrides dxgi AFAIK, which may not work with combination with dxvk. Not really fan of his stuff, so haven't used them.

wayland sucks

Yea let's stick with over 30 year old piece of shit.
I'm not saying wayland is perfect far from it but x11 is stale piece of shit.

Yeah, lets reinvent the wheel and move to worse system where people realize maybe X was the better design all along. (After going through 5 different buggy monolithic compositor implementations)

Post a screenshot of your setup with screenfetch. And your sources.apt

Make it as easy for developers to use OpenGL as it is to use DirectX.

For desktop use X has lots of unnecessary stuff, and it wasn't made to send such huge amound of data back and forth. I don't care about it's lack of security but it's also there.
Also if you want to use X use it i'm all about user choice. For the most part it's devs/hadware manufacturers agendas that are halting development of wayland.

Body mod sliders in every game.

Attached: 1550708826851.jpg (640x640, 82K)

I was one of those devs, and I can honestly say wayland is piece of shit, and their reference compositor even more so.

>calls steam a monopoly
>but uses windows
Why do people do this?

Compositor can be changed tho, sure it's more fragmentation. Also you can use XWayland.
It's not like you are stuck with one or another match your software for your needs.

Fix?
There is nothing to fix, just stuff to improve

Calm down user, I'm just telling you the truth, it won't never get to that point, and most Linux user are fine with that.

Making it more like Windows is exactly what Linux users don't want, that's why the switched from Windows in first place, that why some people despise Wine, it allows you to run windows applications, but at the same time it allows you to run the same windows virus, making Linux vunerable.

Some want more maket share, so large company and devs will pay attention to Linux, but that only will mean more propietary software on Linux, more shitty companies with shitty practices but now on Linux too, and that ins't exactly what Linux users want, that's why they're fine with not being able to play popular games or use Adobe software.

I'm not telling you, you can't play your games, but it won't be as easy as it is on Windows and probably will never be, but it's a lot easier that it was before, a lot, I've been using Linux for almost a decade and I can tell. That's why I'm telling you, if gaming it's your priority, use Windows, if you need Linux for your work, or you really like it, or whatever it's the reason, use a dual boot, a GPU passtrough for your games.
