I was thinking about how 3D Sonic games has no consistency with the world, and how that damages the series. The only time I can think of continuity is Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 and Shadow the Hedgehog. Everything else has completely different places and rules for how the world works. Eg, Station Square doesn't exist outside of the adventure and it has humans, Emerald City only exists in Battle and there are no humans, Forces has no defined locations and it has no humans, Unleashed is all over the place and has humans.
It's just jarring.

I think its fine but gets really tiring after awhile,seeing Mario and Bowser team up in Mario RPG was really cool and I wish they would try something like that in the mainline games.
Its one of the things I really liked about Sonic in general during the Adventure era, while other platformmers had really static characters Sonic had really dynamic and kinda unpredictable characters which made the narratives way more interesting.

I think there's a big difference from "a narrtive about stopping Eggman is the drive to play the game" and "the meanings and "whys" to what's happening in the Sonicverse is the only important reason to even discuss Sonic the Hedgehog".
Most 90s era fans that stuck to the games, likes the games for the gameplay, and the locations. They don't focus on the story, and the narrative in S3K is just a drive to beat the game, not the motif that interests people playing a video game.

The problem is how it's handled, really. We all know Generations made Classic Sonic out to be the past version of Modern Sonic. Then Mania happens, the Phantom Ruby which prioritizes realistic, reality-warping illusions sends Classic to the Modern era again, and then the phrasing of dialogue in Forces tries to make it sound like Classic is some "other" Sonic. Then Mania Plus has Classic Sonic returning back to the past and destroying the Phantom Ruby that started the whole mess to begin with. There's still no definitive answer as to whether it was Forces' terrible writing, or the writers trying to make leeway for more Classic games to be made independent of Modern by half-assing alternate Sonics shit.
