How can they even know the grandmothers and the others can be saved? So far nobody has been able to defeat Ialda and free everyone from her control, for all they know they'll just fade away. Fuck, for all you know you only can save, if anything, the main host at all (Eva in this case), it's not like they saw Zecht and everyone else Ialda ever absorbed freed in the good timeline, just Nagi.
Later we will see Negi's plot device can free only ONE person from Ialda's grip and that's an uber hax Deus Ex Machina.
For that matter, what about your parents? Do they even exist? Were your grandmothers more important than them? Why did your grandmothers entrusted you to FUCKING TSUKUYOMI, the Joker and Ragyo weren't available? Even if they were puppets, it'd have been better if they'd been shown as genuinely suffering while being forced to do this instead of acting like token demon mooks. Some "I really don't want to be doing this" thing.
The smiling part isn't even fitting with 'It's Ialda actually talking through them' as Ialda tends to be very stoic when attacking, and not really acting as if she's enjoying it.
