Chapter 50 wasn’t released yet when S1 ended (only chapter 49), considering an AOT episode takes like 6 months+ to make, and WIT being already strained at the end of S1 I don’t see how this would be possible on a weekly schedule, they would have to make S2E12 in like 2 months lol.
A S2 in early 2015 would have been great tho, also I wonder how following seasons would have looked with araki still as the main, micromanaging, director instead of Koizuka, more intense Titan fights, more artistic license in the presentation and script, more EM scenes I guess

Better than a 4-year break between seasons, that's for sure.
Besides hurting the momentum, S2 also started with a heavier focus on secondary cast with the whole Utgard castle plot, animeonlies who didn't revisit the first season probably found it kind of disorienting which contributed to it being the lowest rated season despite having some of the most famous "hype" moments in the series.
