>introduce uvogin as this really strong meathead but reveal that he is actually really smart and resourceful in combat
>in his final fight he just unga bungas kurapika but fails because of Gary stu jutsu, uses none of the cool abilities he used in the fight before
What did Togashi mean by this?
HxH
Speedreader here. What "cool abilities" are you referring to?
He created a giant crater by punching the ground
He killed a guy by yelling
>uses none of the cool abilities he used in the fight before
huh?
Finally caught up on this manga and damn this boat arc is boring as shit.
He wanted to have fun fighting Kurapika and wasn't even trying until the very end of the fight. And when he did get serious, he damn near killed the fucker after cleverly using smoke and In.
After that he was already trapped by Chain Jail, so no chance to yell. Everything in the fight checks out.
This.
2011 niggers were blinded by the flashy colors and the "hype" animation and music and missed the most aspect of this fight.
Once Uvogin takes the fight serious, Kurapika last literally 1 second before he's overwhelmed and has to call it quits.
kurapika has to be a top 5 nen user right?
>has 100% access to all nen types while his eyes are red
>can steal nen user's abilities and aura
>can kill literally anyone with chain jail if he's willing to suicide
that alone puts him at chrollo/ging level
He's got the most versatility but he'd lose against most of the top nen users due to either a lack of experience or a bad match up. eg. I doubt he'd be able to do anything against Killua's Godspeed unless he got really, really lucky and managed to stick him with the Steal Chain
I remember this as the first fight I didn't want anyone to loose. It really stressed me out as a kid.
thats clearly adult gon
>he damn near killed the fucker
he just broke his arm(which he inmediately healed with no effort)
I've been watching the anime with the expectation that the magic system makes sense, because that's how the "hunterchads" sold it to me. Not only got nen introduced on some random later arc as a hindsight, the abilities also have no logical consistency and are just random magic shit that the author decides to arbitrary classify under some makeshift category. Like, I'm going to get to Chimera Ant eventually because people praise that really hard, but so far the series doesn't have any of the charm points the people try to sell me it with.
And got sent flying. Had Uvo not been wrapped in chains by that point, there's little doubt he could have closed the gap in moments and either immbolized one of Kurapika's legs or his chain arm, if he dared block.
Just drop it to be honest.
Hunter x Hunter is unironically not for your shonenshitter brain and you will hate the Chimera Ants arc.
I don't honestly know what you mean by "shonenshitter brain" and it's not really an argument for the quality of the series, but you do you user.
>so far the series doesn't have any of the charm points the people try to sell me it with
You don't like the cute shotas?
I think the specialist and far more so the manipulator categories were a mistake. 99% it's just used to control zombie humans and nothing interesting ever comes out of it except one time being used to control a clone.
Manipulator should be changed to Beast category that has our of nowhere popped out in the last arc.
>You don't like the cute shotas?
Even if we want to take this route, Gon is objectively fucking ugly
Gon is cute.
I feel like this post is a perfect showcase of where the series shits the bed. Obviously Nen doesn't make any sense, but because there's random classifications, people sell it too much as a rigid system. There's really no logic on how shit works, it's just random magic.
I'll give you Kurapika and maybe Killua but Gon is fucking horrid
>Pouf
>Morel
>Kalluto
>Ikalgo
>Shoot
>That guy manipulating blood
What the fuck are you talking about?
Not even remotely. When not fighting the Troupe, Kurapika sorely lacks in offensive power and constantly needs to use a hatsu that drains his stamina at staggering rates.
Steal Chain seems OP, but strong and prepared Enhancers might have a body too hard to pierce with the syringe, maybe even skilled enough Emitters and Transmuters, and it's a direct projectile attack that isn't dangerous outside of the tip, so you can attack it directly even if you can't dodge.
Same applies to stuff like Judgment Chain and Holy Chain; one suffers from Steal Chain's drawbacks (perhaps worse, maybe somebody could attack Kurapika before he finishes setting conditions and that interrupts the ability, hard to tell), whereas the other doesn't help him win engagements.
Dowsing Chain is pure support, which Kurapika as a whole is good at, but a top nen user seems like somebody unmatched in strength, support, or pretty good at both and the boy simply isn't there yet.
Hell, we don't even know if Kurapika has trained the basics extensively like Gon and Killua, since he immediately developped Hatsu. He's way too specialized and has only done well against specific targets and literal whos, both times via the element of surprise.
>Morel
transmutator
>Shoot
no fucking way his cage is a manipulation ability
Pouf is a specialist so who cares.
Morel was cool but why do we need a different category for it? But sure, Morel was cool.
Kalluto used some papers, hardly ground breaking.
I don't remember what Ikalgo ever manipulated.
Shoot is such a weird character. Why did he conjure up 3 extra hands? And more importantly, I don't think you need a whole category to manipulate things with nen.
>guy who manipulates smoke
>clearly doesn't make it from his aura as seen from needing his pipe to make more
>transmuter
>guy who manipulates conjured hands and cage
>not a manipulation ability
>I don't remember what Ikalgo ever manipulated.
all of those corpses
Just a hint.
He was an enchancer that means he uses nen to enhance his ability. With Kurapikas chain he was put in a state of zetsu meaning he could not use his nen.
He literally got inside them as a parasite, but we go again to my problem with Manipulation, just mostly used to control zombies.
On another note, Manipulation in always a secondary ability when used in a cool way, no true manipulator as far as I remember so anything different than control zombies.
Back to your list:
Morel, transmuter that uses manipulation, but his main thing is transmuting his aura into smoke.
Shoot, I'm not sure what he was maybe a conjurer based on his little cage thing.
That disfigured guy with the prosthetic was an enhancer.
Was Kalluto a manipulator? If so he did show some creativity for once in that category.
This has to be bait, right?
>has 100% access to all nen types while his eyes are red
First of all Kurapika doesn't have 100% access to all nen types like you think he does (pic to follow).
>can steal nen user's abilities and aura
Not as strong as you think it is. It's not an instant steal. It's a gradual drain and the opponent can just pluck the chain out. The 2 abilities he stole was from an user who wa already immobilized and from another user who was distracted by Bill at the time.
>that alone puts him at chrollo/ging level
Just the fact that you imply both of them to be on the same level is already absurd.
How could Chrollo be a top 5 nen user and have no way whatsoever of tanking a simple Ko from Zeno?
Chrollo would be at most at Zeno's level, and then you'd also have Silva there or above.
Chrollo is nowhere near Netero/ Beyond/ Botobai/ Ging level. Much less Kurapika.
ok I give you morel because I was sure I read somewhere he transmuted smoke instead of just manipulating it but how the fuck is hotel raflessia manipulation? sure he makes the cage float big fucking deal he also can store livings parts of people in it that's not manipulation
Morel is a transmuter, he smokes to merge his nen and smoke together. Clearly as shown with Killian you still help at times front the element in order to transmute it.
Sure Morel is a master, but we know Kurapika carries his chains around to fool his opponents.
How the fuck can someone get so many things so wrong?
You honestly know less about Hunter x Hunter than someone who has never read it or watched it.
>Pouf is a specialist so who cares
Pouf was a Manipulator, not a Specialist.
>I don't remember what Ikalgo ever manipulated
Maybe if you hadn't speedwatched the series you would know?
>Why did he conjure up 3 extra hands?
He literally didn't. Those were real hands and it's outright stated he's a Manipulator.
>And more importantly, I don't think you need a whole category to manipulate things with nen.
Thank God it's not you writing HxH, but Togashi.
Please do everyone a favor and don't bother commenting about HxH ever again.
Storing parts is from the conjuration, since you can give conjured items special properties. Floating stuff is manipulation because he's literally manipulating it, doesn't get much simpler.
Are you under the assumption you can't make a nen ability with multiple categories, user? Because that's the only way I can rationalize your confusion.
Well, in that case the only thing left is the atmosphere and fun monsters.
I want to kiss Killua.
Morel creates smoke under water to beat the Lion Ant. It must be created from Aura. The question is from which type
Daily reminder that during the Hunter Exam arc Togashi received tons of fanmail from adult women saying stuff like “I wish Killua was my little brother!” and “Killua is cool, he’s so mysterious!!”
and the nicest thing anyone had to say about Leorio was “he’s a hard worker, I hope he becomes a doctor one day” kek
The cage is not Conjured, it's a real cage just like it's 3 real hands.
Manipulators can also apply special properties to things like Conjurers can.
>FULL THROTTLE!
Yikes
I feel bad for women who didn't get to grow up with this gem.
>First of all Kurapika doesn't have 100% access to all nen types like you think he does (pic to follow).
my point is that if shoot is a manipulator then why have an ability that only has the minimum of that category? kinda like gon with "paper", he isn't an emitter so is weak as shit, therefore "hotel rafflesia" should be a pain in the ass to use
>It must be created from Aura
Why? There's no reason it can't be regular smoking. Besides, if he transmutes his aura into smoke, being unable to make more after Pouf steals his pipe would be nonsense.
Everyone would gush over Gon, Killua, and Kurapika being amazing, cool, and attractive meanwhile Leorio is basically just "he's nice"
eat rocks
>Hisoka: “hes so mysterious.”
>Chrollo: “his power seems limitless!!!!!!”
Clownsisters…
how much range does leorio have
could he perform surgery from a remote location
Can someone explain o my rubber nen to me? I unironically don't understand why that worked. I caught up to the manga like 2 days ago.
He performed cpr on himself except that's not how cpr works.
>Morel is a transmuter
You guys are fucking retarded.
Manipulation is literally the opposite side of the hexagon from Transmutation.
If Morel was a Transmuter, he would have only up 40% mastery in Manipulation AND what he did manipulate would only have 40% effectiveness.
Morel creates and controls literally hundreds of smoke puppets and can give them complex commands, different shapes, voices, etc. He was able to wage a puppet war with Pitou for DAYS straight. He is 100% a Manipulator.
It is also said Manipulators biggest weakness is that they often rely on a real life object and if they lose them during a battle, they lose the source of their power. That's EXACTLY what happened in the Pouf fight. Once Pouf took Morel's pipe, he literally could not produce a single ounce of smoke. If he was a Transmuter, that wouldn't be the case.
For two reasons. One is that Gon's Paper is just an Emitter attack. It's not combining multiple categories and conditions, like Kurapika does with Judgment Chain or Genthru with Countdown. It's just an emitted blast from Gon's adjacent category with nothing else limitting it besides Jajanken's chant. It's naturally weaker.
Second is that Gon simply isn't as strong as Shoot yet. If he was as good as Netero, maybe Paper would be just a level below Razor's emitted balls. Who knows? But for now, his emission power is weak. Shoot is better with nen, so he manages to make better use of a more complicated ability.
Because you can't create smoke under water (using a pipe). So it must be made with magic
The pipe restriction could be explained as a vow Morel made. The reason for that is less clear.
how does cpr work?
A dead (flatlined) heart cannot be restored with cpr.
>Hisoka passed Chrollo in the next popularity poll
HE CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS, SPIDERSISTERS!!!
>lost to leorio
uhhh hisokatrannies...??
Does the big, threatening guy ever not fucking job to some twink in any manga or anime made after the 80s?
seven deadly sins unironically
>kite made the list
How? He's cool but only in like 8 chapters and that's it
>The pipe restriction could be explained as a vow Morel made.
The mental gymnastic for this retarded theory is amazing.
Transmutation and Manipulation are polar opposite categories. It makes zero fucking sense that he "transmutes" the aura when we already KNOW he's only capable of producing smoke with the big ass pipe he has to carry around and that he's fucked when he's without it.
Not to mention jobber ants could see the smoke, so if it was nen smoke, that might not have been the case.
you ask than when Feitan made it into the prior list? If you do cool stuff and are pretty, you get votes, most people are that simple
Not those guys, just a small correction... Morel produces smoke aura not literal smoke, i do think due to his less than ideal affinity with transmutation that he has put a condition to creating smoke aura (his pipe). pic related is the page where it says he produces smoke aura.
Kite was always a fan favorite. It was the 2011 anime that botched his character.
He made the Top 10 list for the first character popularity poll despite only appearing in the first chapter.
It is a popularity contest, not a best character contest.
So will nitro rice counter emperor time's massive downside or will it still kill him because of the covenant?
since togashit will never drop a single chapter ever again we will just have to assume the boat sank before even reaching the fake continent
>feitan
>cool
He's such a lame edgelord
You should stop, drop and run before the chimerants arc. It's shit and has none of the logical consistency ability mechanics and everything of the power-scaling boredom. Also, a cute grill from the first arcs is shot by a bug and fucking dies for no reason other than shock value.
And you better have bene watching the 1999 version because the remake kills the mood.
if kurapika doesn't die on the boat, dying before finding nitro rice, giving it to help someone else or it simply not working for the reason you gave are the best and most likely options.
2011 only botched his introduction. The anime ends up giving him a lot more screentime to make up for it.
